Getting a sponsorship job on a Tier 4 and transitioning to Tier 2 isn't exactly the discourse. The possibility is common knowledge.

Was asking hustla to confirm if his classmate's still maintained the Tier 4 or switched to Tier 2 upon the 20hrs job. It's a build up on previous conversation.

EDIT: I see you responded to my initial post which I modified just befor you responded. Guess I wasn't too clear in the initial post. Apparently, we're on the same page. wink

Amarathripple0:
You can get sponsorship as a student and change your visa type from tier 4 to tier 2 whilst studying. You do not have to be done with school to change your immigration status. Also there are a lot of serious jobs that can be done at 20hours a week and some companies advertise them. Filter the search on the job site to part time and you’ll find these roles.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 7:40pm On Nov 26, 2022
You can try, but companies won't most likely sponsor anyone on student visa.

The option would be to stop your studies and switch visa.

For your classmate that got sponsorship for 20hrs, did she change her visa type or she was still on Tier 4?

I believe one can't hold two visa types concurrently.

For Tier 4, it is what it is: 20 hours work allowance per week. Defile the rule at your own peril.

The system is structured to ensure that students having their finances covered for them to focus on their studies why allowing 20 hours per week to experience the labour market and make some money. I bet every student know this but try to wiggle it out.

In all, patience and diligence will always win.

hustla:
This means that I have to find a company that'll possibly agree to 20 hrs /week

NHS agreed to it for a girl in my class (IT Audit) and that's the only case I've seen so far (for the sponsorship ones)
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 2:22pm On Nov 26, 2022
First, you can't work full time on a student visa even if the company wants to sponsor.

You'd have to switch to a PSW visa after your studies to work full time. It allows you to get a job - sponsored or not.

Once you have a job on the PSW visa, you can then discuss sponsorship with your employer who by then would recognise your value to their coy.

hustla:
I'm still wondering how you hope to secure and start the job with a student visa

Creatives no dey use CV, na portfolio we dey use.

It's the experience, impact and result that counts not the duration.

Even for CV, you necessary don't have to put all your career touch points on the paper just the most valuable or applicable to the role in question.

*Maba OR Bama.

mizGene:
3 months!! Baba!
So will you put that short stint on your CV?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 2:38am On Nov 26, 2022
grin Are you in or out of the UK?

If you're in already, You might want to tone down on the request for sponsorship at the interview stage.

Secure the job first, deliver value and negotiate to your advantage.

Some jobs are quite clear on giving sponsorship, for those you can raise it with them at the interview stage. For those that do not state so, you can let it slide at the interview stage.

jadepinkett:
Make una show us way ooo... despite many recruiters reaching out, the moment I mention sponsorship, na so that trail go cold. I don tire embarassed

Most "professional rolling stones" change jobs because of boredom. They're explorers, creative and innovative.

The best thing for them is to become a consultant, working on different projects per time instead of having a fixed 9-5 job all year. That way, they maintain freshness and dynamism in professional practice.

Given that the UK labour market steeped in favour of the employee, you can always negotiate your way around.

Objectively analyze your options and go with the best. You can move around within the NHS.

corpershun:
I am equally interested too.
Mine is I get bored easily doing same routine job. Currently in the NHS as project support but I am bored but skeptical of how il be seen bouncing from job to job. Good thing I can use the expiration of my student visa as an excuse to leave.
But how do you communicate this to employers. I would love to know
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 7:48pm On Nov 24, 2022
UK net migration hit 504,000 in the year to June - the highest figure ever recorded, The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates.

The rise is driven by people arriving legally from outside the EU and the resumption of post-pandemic travel.

Reception of Afghan and Ukrainian refugees and people from Hong Kong are other factors.

The government has promised to cut net migration - the difference between the numbers entering and leaving the UK.

Today's figures will intensify debates over the role of overseas workers into the UK economy and wider labour market - weeks after Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she wanted to resurrect a repeatedly missed government target to reduce net migration to below 100,000.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 6:42pm On Nov 24, 2022
Absolutely.

I'm interested in reading your serial job change story. grin

I'd like to think I'm a serial job changer as well. An employer once saw my CV and called me "a rolling stone" during the interview. He said he knew I'd leave them soon. Three months down the line I left. cool

Exploring new territories and roles is always exciting.

LagosismyHome:
I am a serial job changer....lol. story for another day but what you typed up has been my experience

As long as you have accrued it and there is enough team coverage, its not even a big deal or worth a second thought. No normal manager will be upset

Let me share my experience on probation and annual leave/bereavement.

I'm barely 3 months into my first job in this UK. Currently on a six-month probation but I have a pro-rated annual leave just before my company's calender year reset.

Given my Naija experience, I literally saw the probation-phase leave allowance as a bait grin So, I wasn't going to use any as per sharp Nigerian. However, I noticed my british-born colleagues had almost used up the leave even at the induction phase. grin Life sweet.

Long story short, me sef request for some days leave this month just to flex and it was granted despite the short notice. Annual leave requires 6 weeks notice in my company but I requested barely 2 weeks to the date I wanted and it was granted. My manager simply looked at the team's calender, noticed no one else would be on leave for those days, got clearance from his own manager and granted it. It's people over processes and rules.

My partner told me of a colleague who's cat died and the manager gave her one week to mourn.

So, I see no reason why they'd deny some days off to mourn and honour your dead.

With my little experience about the labour market here, bereavement is a huge stuff. They're big on Work-life balance and family. I'd say the employee is the king in this market. It's the other way round back home.

OP just needs to speak to her Manager. I'm almost certain they'll give her a week or more if she requests.

Actually, being on probation shouldn't take out your access to leave. If that's case and they won't give you time off to mourn and honour the dead, then you need to run from that company.

Yes, even with dom accounts. Used to work but not anymore.

Disturbing how Nigeria is shutting itself out of the global party.

bigtt76:
Ooh wow, even if its a domiciliary card? I've not tried it though cos I don't have a dom card.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 5:27pm On Nov 23, 2022
Have you done this recently?

Most international platforms (Revolut, Wise inclusive) don't accept Nigerian cards again.

bigtt76:
Use your GTBank card to fund your Revolut or Monzo and transfer the funds to your other bank account grin

Sheer sentiment and emotion aren't needed here. Speak with facts and objectivity.

Wait, how did marginalisation and racism enter this conversation sef? I advise you read up more on those words. Every country has had a fair chance to compete at the WC. The better ones are there now and only the best will win.

Why bash others for their option when you have the space to present yours?

Last week, the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme was confirmed. It's under the UK's Youth Mobility Scheme visa: https://www.gov.uk/youth-mobility/eligibility

This scheme will allow 3,000 Indians (18–30 year-old degree graduates) to come to the UK to live and work for up to two years.

--

I'm excited for Indians. They're winning on liberating their people for global excellence.

Just wish Nigeria will learn the dynamics of social development, poverty reduction and opportunity generation for its citizens.

Here are the economic implications of the Autumn Statement: https://www.creditladder.co.uk/blog/Autumn-Budget-2022-What-does-it-mean-for-tenants

Economic downtimes are a great opportunity to evolve. Don't be limited the pervading news of recession. There are still opportunities out there. Best wishes.

Interesting! It'll be good to have some year-end bonus from my company.

Will ask around. Fingers crossed.

Gemma11:
Some companies do.
I know some who work in big investment banks in Canary Wharf & in the City of London who get extremely healthy bonuses. Think 10% of your yearly salary in one go every year + other incentives.
Never say never. We go survive.

Okay. Thanks.

Yes, I have other records.

My score has been 422 since June. cheesy Got the card to boost my credit score. Really hoping it'll give it a push.

I realised my report/score aren't available on any other credit agent except Clearscore. It's also available on TransUnion. Is this anything to worry about?

Solumtoya:
It could take a few months but hope uou have other records outside AMEX? Like Electoral Register, Utility bills direct debits, Bank Accounts, etc
Thanks, Baba Lexus.

Lexusgs430:
Don't worry, AMEX would report your credit file.......

Hiya!

Biko, how long does it take for one's credit card details to reflect on the credit report?

It's almost two months since I got Amex card and I've been using it but nothing has been reported on my credit file.

Meanwhile, I'm only able to see my credit report on Clearscore. Experian and CreditKarma didn't produce any data for me. Thanks

That's where the knowledge of underwriting terms comes in handy.

Nope.
Even if you've already listed PECs, they will then claim that the medical issue you're trying to claim for is a PEC. wink

You can buy the training material and practice question packs on Udemy.

Watch loads of videos - YouTube. Read other materials.

Pay for the exam and write it in the comfort of your house.

I did this and passed the PSM I at the first attempt with barely two months of inconsistent study due to work and travelling.

All the best.

Oh! Didn't see this before posting.

I've not read the details of her resignation as I only saw it in passing at the café.

But the swift turn on her and her migration stance by Liz Truss is an indication that there is trouble in paradise.

Back to work. Will read and analyze later.

Generally, avoid cars with dual transmission (semi-autos).

Avoid French products.

Embrace Japanese and a few German products.

You can check this video for more:

I've confirmed a lot of what was said in the video with a few long-term taxi drivers and users in the UK.

Evening everyone.

Can I do a one/two-day trip to France and return to the UK same day?

I presume I'll need a France-Schengen visa. For those who have applied and been to France from the UK, please what was the process like?

Thinking of having a two-day visit to France later this year or in Q1 2023.

NB: I've been in the UK for 5 months.

Thanks

Hiya,

Please what options are available to transfer dollars from a Naija USD account without withdrawing from the ATM?

I tried using Flutterwave but they said the Nigerian bank isn't the transaction. Wise isn't accepting Nigerian cards. Most international payment gateways don't accept Nigerian cards. It's just tiring.

Anyone with any idea, please share. Tanku!
