I was told there was a possibility my file will be sent to my home country, that’s why I decided to lodge earlier. SP got her visa in Feb, I applied for owp in May, baby was born in July.

As it is presently, there seems to be no definite timeframe SOWP files will be processed and backlogs cleared. IRCC nairobi office is presently not treating SOWP files. There are people who applied as far as 2020 and IRCC is silent on when backlogs will be cleared not to talk of when new applications will be treated. This wait is killing! We are separated from our families for so long, and yet, Canada claim to be interested in family re-unification. As a matter of fact, this is a major reason most students choose Canada over other countries. At this point, we can only put our trust in God and pray for a positive response from IRCC.

To be honest I’m surprise and sad SOWP applications processed in Nairobi takes over 6 months or more. I know a friend of mine in the Philippines who applied for OWP after SP got his visa on June 24th. Both SP and OWP are not married (Common Law Partner) same sex. He often ask of my application which I lodged before him May 19th, eligibility never even start sef. It’s tiring.

my baby applied with his Philippines passport, because visitors visa processing time is 74 days. Even though I used the same gckey as SP and TRV….my application was sent to Kenya for processing. Since May 19th no update.

No decision yet, his application was lodged on the 6th of August. My spouse is planning to leave in November too since baby’s application processing time is 74 days. I pray it doesn’t get delayed. It is well

If I apply for TRV (visit Visa) how do I go about the letter of invitation since I am still in the country. I haven’t travelled yet.

My son is 1 month old, SP hasn’t traveled (Sept 2021 intake). In the letter of invitation my wife submitted complied: Letter of intent, Letter of Admission, Affidavit of Support, Visa approval Letter, Copy of SP bio-data page, Copy of SP visa stamp, full tuition receipts, GIC. The document were almost similar to Purpose of travel.

Not yet either. My wife sent an email to Nairobi got a "non-template" reply within 12-hours. It says they have not finalized it, they can't when but they are doing every possible to finalize it soonest. Once my wife gets her 2nd dose of the vaccine, we will send a request for exemption to travel. Hoping and praying for the best.

I traveled to Canada on 18th December 2020. I started packaging my family application immediately after I have collected all the vital documents like Study permit, SIN, Service Card, and so on.
I applied for an Open work permit visa for my wife and visiting visa for my children.
Timeline:
Submitted application on 11th Feb 2021
Biometrics - 3rd March 2021
Upfront medical - 29th March 2021
Sent series of emails before medical was uploaded to pass on 14th June 2021.

At some point, I had to request for GCSM note to find out the current status of our application.
I contacted the MP, but the only feedback I got was that the status is "Review Required"
I had requested about three notes that are yet to land as we speak.
The last email I sent was on the 9th of August, 2021. I sent the email to both Nairobi and London. I finally got a response to my email on 11th August 2021. I think the London office forwarded my email to Nairobi. So, Nairobi told us to request a written authorization. I ask for this letter that same day. After that, the waiting game continues again until 17th August 2021. I noticed my daughter's eligibility changed from "We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirement" to " we will inform you once your eligibility...".
Finally, on 18th August, I got a notification that there is a pending message regarding my family application. I opened the portal, and it was a BVL.
At this point, I knew the decision had been made. However, it was a mixed feeling because nobody knows what comes next. It is either an approval or a refusal, but I keep hoping for the best.
I decided to go and shop for wines � believing that it will be a favorable decision.
Victory at last. The golden email came in this morning. As usual, I logged into my wife's account, and it was a PPR!
I pray that everybody waiting for good news like this will testify very soon in Jesus' name.
It wasn't easy but last last; it ended in praise!!

We applied for visiting visa for my husband and baby in June, and afterwards applied for prioritization. The response was that he was not eligible for exemption to travel.

We kept hope alive, and applied for entry via compassionate grounds. First application was denied due to filling an outdated form. Second application was approved within 24 hours.

Hi all,

My hubby and 2 kids got approved today. Application was submitted on Dec 4, 2020. Did upfront medicals in April and updated to passed in July. Sent a lot of webforms and I also contacted our MP here. We got passport request today after 8 months, also my kids authorisation letters were approved because we applied for visitors visas for the kids. I guess hubby doesn't require authorisation letter because I applied for the 3 of them but they only sent the authorisation letters for the kids.

Hubby and babies applied in May. Hubby did upfront medicals.
They received a medical request on July 21 but we emailed them to remind them hubby had already passed upfront medical so they sent PPR on Jul 23.
My children's medical was updated as passed on Aug 2nd. PPR was sent 10 Aug.

I sent this because I know that this kind of news encouraged me when I was waiting. I hope it encourages someone. I give God the glory actually because he was merciful and prospered our efforts:

I reached out to them a lot
I sent a travel exemption request via the webform and email (4x. lol)
I reached out to the MP in my area.
I leveraged on the services of my school immigration advisors
my documents were very detailed and extra so they won't have anything to request or delay over

It will end in praise.

Welcome to the club. I pray we all get our OWP approved as soon as possible. I'm a May applicant, medicals passed since June, waiting for eligibility to start. I ordered for my GCMS notes knowing eligibility hasn't started. The wait is killing.

Hi Eilenora, May I ask if the Mp of London, Ontario can inquire for international student that is not yet in Canada. My wife is also a student in Fanshawe College but taking online classes while waiting for my OWP and Trv minor.

Thank you Nairalanders, its been awesome getting information and idea here, I don't post but I felt the urge to post today to let you know that God will do it for you , I got my passport back from vfs using Lagos vfs office, submitted July 19 via dhl and received today Aug 3 via ups.
Timeline Year 2021
Online Application submitted: Feb 5
Biometrics: Feb 9
Medical request: June 30
Medical passed: July 13
PPR: July 17

1st Travel exemption mail sent: Apr 26
2nd Travel exemption mail reminder: May 21
None was responded to.
We prayed, believed and God did it.

Indeed, what God can not do doesn't exist...

I moved to Canada as an international student in August of 2016.
From 2017 till 2021 Feb, I have continued to try to bring my wife to join me, we had applied for:

2 study permits- Refused
3 work permits- Refused

The 6th application I reluctantly submitted as the generic refusals were quite annoying already, but to the glory of God that got approved.

Its been 4 painful years of trying and retrying...
Lots of traveling back and forth to Nigeria..

We had concluded plans to relocate to the UK but God came through at the 11.59th hour.

For all those waiting, may your approvals come knocking soon.

If you ever experience delays, please don't give up, get your Gcms, fix their issues and refire, keep refiring...they will eventually approve.


Time line:

NB-Medical was passed in February, though application was refused.

The medical request came even though we had submitted upfront medicals, we raised series of webforms got no response...they just updated to Pass

Did Biometrics on 20 April 2020 and updated on same day.
Since then, no IME request.
What is happening?

-ArriveCan receipt(download the app and fill within 72hours before your trip), print out the receipt and have a backup on your phone)
-marriage certificate(orig&photocopy),your spouse docs(study/work permit, I.D card, updated confirmation of enrolment etc), int. passport, hotel booking for quarantine(if you are not vaccinated), quarantine plan, P.O.E letter, GCMS note(I used this in place of T.A. the section that stated I qualify for T.A) and any other supporting document.

P.S:
T.A was only requested at MMIA but not mentioned at the point of entry, although this depends on the officer on duty. My spouse also contacted the MP twice to raise an enquiry which they did.

Most importantly, God hasn't forgotten you. You will need a very good dose of patience Pray for God's favour on your application and journey. It will end in praise and you will share your testimony soon

Good day house. I am currently trying to figure out the exact meaning of this Gcms notes because its very confusing and I am also consulting with other people on it.

NOTE: In the application letter, there was never any mention of my spouse coming to VISIT me, however, there was clear indication of her applying for SOWP and the main purpose was family reunification.

I guess you applied for travel authorization to expedite your application process.

I feel SOWP applications are not prioritized at the moment. There seems to be alot of drags on this type of application. Has anyone who recently applied for SOWP for their family after arriving in Canada (as international student) got approval or got GCMS notes that indicates some form of activities on these particular application(s)? My family appled about 2 months ago, upfront medical passed within 4 days, biometric completed and updated, but eligibility has not shown started since then. Anyone - or know someone - with something different than this?

hahaha, I know this feeling hahaha. Canada's quarantine can be tolerated compared to Asia. I remember the first time I did a 14days quarantine in a hotel, I can't go out of my room or I'll be fined...I can only look through the window to see cars passing and sunshine for 14 days.
I'm used to Asian cuisines, my breakfast, lunch, dinner was all white rice with no salt. rice! rice!! rice!!! with a little portion of their soup or vegetables or chicken. I was tired of rice, my wife pitied me. There was no microwave, I use the kettle to heat up my food.

The next time I had another 14days quarantine, my past experience taught me how to survive. Since I know it's rice, as usual, I bought 14 cans of tuna, Oatmeal, Milk, Honey, Cereal, and Biscuits. On arrival at my hotel, I ordered a lot of apples, bananas, oranges, grapes. And my routine was Oatmeal or cereals for breakfast, biscuits for lunch, rice, and tuna for dinner. hahaha.

Hi everyone, please oo I'm really confused about this travel authorization thingy. I follow 2 Canada Visa groups...Since my visa was lodge in the Philippines I follow their Facebook page and updates. My question is the Travel Authorization do we apply for it after the OWP visa has been approved or while the application is still processing? I'm a bit confused because i checked the IRCC page and also the Facebook group I'm following they only apply for Travel Authorization after visa approval. My visa is been processed in Nairobi so I want to be sure I'm on the right track.

1. I'm 19 and just left high school 2019 therefore no previous undergraduate. I did all science related courses in school and I've been attending a computer science which I just finished.
2. There was a problem because my agent did not fill in my siblings in my family form, I don't know how that happened.

ok since you only have an high school certificate Waec. You need to take your time and write a well detailed study plan, your career path, why you choose computer IT, why Canada and so on.

From the gcms note you uploaded, it has nothing to do with siblings. You need to show ties to Nigeria to convince the VO you’ll come back after your studies. My advise! do it yourself, some agents don’t review and check with clients before uploading documents.
