Dear Op,

I will like to start by appreciating the Almighty God that gave me the grace to venture into this. I will also want to appreciate op for this post sometimes early 2018.

My Journey

I have been studying about the prospect of starting my own mining farm until I stumbled on this thread in 2018. I was quite exited and was strengthened with fact that op has been able to mine in Nigeria. I started by getting a used whatsminer M3 from a Chinese merchant. On getting to me , I did the proper setup and connect to the slushpool network. However, I started having issues with the machine as the power was sent faulty.

Issues with used machine

Let me quickly digress here to tell you about used machines. You can be lucky to get a very good used machine, but most of the time, they are either a non profitable machine or they have issues associated to the hashing panels, fans, power or they are basically not working. The fact that it was tested and you see it working does not mean it’s ok, as my M3 can work for almost 30mins before shorting down automatically because the power unit is heated up.

Back to my adventure

Based on the knowledge gathered, I set up a team and we decided to go into mining full time. So we bought a new Antminer B7 because we wanted equihash algorithm and the fact that the power consumption is quite low. After setting up, the ride was smooth, we enjoyed it really. The heat was minimal and the power consumption was low. It was giving around $9 a day.
The above result exited the team and as the onsite engineer, I advised we launch into the deep . So, we later bought 9 Antminer Z11. It was exciting to see the machines arrive from China. I forgot to tell you that as at this moment, we have moved our site to a location in Osogbo where we were promised at least 18 hours of power a day.
On arrival, the 9 machines were added to the existing B7 to make 10 asics in the farm. Then, we started having the inevitable issues. Let me enumerate.

1. Heat:
We really underrated the amount of heat these beasts will emit at the onset of the venture. When you have all machines working within 5 mins, the walls in the room will become so heated up, if not careful you may endup setting the house on fire.
Solution
-We did the obvious of using fan, later added a 1hp Ac. The cooling tried but it wasn’t good enough, so we bought some heat duct from china and channeled the heat emanating from each machine to somewhere outside the room. I later added a standing 2hp and another 1.5 hp AC unit to the room to maintain a good mining temperature.

2. Electricity:
The first thing we observed was the fact that our transformer started having issues, we later discovered that the main problem is that the transformer was already overloaded and now we are sapping almost 15kw from the grid through this transformer. In no time, this became one of our major issues in the mining farm (I will talk about it later).

3. Noise:
An average miner makes 75db of noise. Starting a machine at home will call the attention of your neigbours, talkless of running 10 of them in the same location.
Solution:
We got a bespoke machine from china that made us disconnect all the fans (the cause of the noise) and attached all the machines to the custom fans we bought. It immensely reduced the noise considerably that one can even talk when all the miners are working.

Back to our discussion.
After militating against all the odds, we were left with the obvious problem of constant electricity. However we were able to run for some months before we were unable to bear the power problem we encountered.

Profitability
Let me quickly talk about money, its really profitable to mine crypto currency. I will boldly tell you that. We used a lot of pools (I have my share experience with many of them and some can be fraudulent) but ended up with our recommended best which is Nicehash. They will use your farms hash power and pay you in bitcoin or other coins in their platform. We make money every 4 hours and convert to usd every week (though you can do that every day if you like).

Solution to power problem
After a while, we had to push the entire machine to another location in USA because of the power problem we had. They charge us almost 50% monthly on what we earn on the machine. While that was on, we ventured into getting a regular power source that will not give issues ( the USA company charges is too much if you understand what I mean).
We eventually got one in an industrial park (though we pay more than the regular billing). We also stepped down a 33KVA to our own transformer.
We are also in talks with some IPP (independent power generation companies) that are ready to sell power directly to our farms in different locations.
In addition to that, we have had an agreement with a firm in the USA to supply us with immersion cooling system which is our final solution to the cooling of the machines.

Which option would be the best between giving an agent to do the process and procedures for me or I just head straight to Frsc office and do the registration myself.

No need to go yourself, they will waste your time and you will come back again to continue the process after the first day you go there.

Just search for pattybf here on NL, talk to her and she will get you the license even without you going to their office. Just send her the details she needs and she’s tell you when to come pick the temporary and permanent drivers license once it’s ready. She can also arrange to waybill it to you if you’re outside the state.
