How can i connect two computer to a single network?

i have two dell laptops with windows xp as their os.
one of them is connected to a modem and so can access the internet,
but the other is not.
how can i with the aid of a network cable connect the other laptop to access the net?
both laptops are dell computers.

Well,the problem is not with the avast itself, it is with the operation system .
The virus has taken over the operation system before the avast was installed, so there is little or nothing the avast can do.
The only solution is to format your system and install avast before installing any other software.
