@princessayinke, I would suggest you write the IELTS in a centre that is not closed yet i.e. Abuja...You can also keep checking the British council to be sure that there are no late cancellations you can take advantage of as that happened in my case. |

Definitely, General Training. Academic is mainly for admission purposes. |
Travel / Re: Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program-timelines Here by Liss: 11:05am On Oct 07, 2014 |
@princessayinke You have the option of rewriting the IELTS and making sure you have the maximum points of 24 points so you can meet up with 68 points. That is if you do not have a spouse who can write IELTS for 5 points. |

Hi, bridgelakes, Nice thread you have going here. Please what is the job situation like for new immigrants in Canada. I read somewhere that workers do not get paid vacation? Is this correct? BTW, Did you go through the FSWP? Any success stories of Nigerians you can share with us. |

[quote Tnx sir! However, I am not based in Lagos. Can it be done else's where? [/quote] Of course it can be done elsewhere. I have read of those who were not in Lagos and got it done in their states without having to come to Lagos. Just ensure you go to the police headquarters in your state of residence or something. BTW, Is the police report compulsory when submitting your application? I doubt it cos the lifespan is a few months and It would have expired before it's required and you would have to send in a new one when the visa office requires it. Except you are not a new applicant sha. |

iykedare: Hi guys, i used my gtbank mastercard to pay for my WES. The first time i tried it, a message "error token session" came up. Had to go to d bank and they asked me to try to pay again. Tried it again. RIGHT NOW, THE MONEY HAVE BEEN DEDUCTED TWICE FROM MY ACCOUNT. Has anyone had similar incident like this? Can i get my money back? Money was deducted for d second time on Saturday. I had this same situation when I tried paying for my WES fees. I also used my GTBank mastercard & got a bank balance showing two debits but one record of payment at WES.. I made a complain at the nearest GTBank & the customer service person explained that when doing foreign transactions, the bank holds an extra payment just in case you withdraw before the foreign transaction is concluded. In my case, my money was reversed as I didn't overdraw my account & I didn't have to write any letter of complaint to anyone. Hope your own works out easily too. |

ferdimako: Lol. Name corrected. Sorry about that. unibadan: Hello my fellow Nairalanders, I believe this doable. Provided you submit all their necessary details from the onset and show that you have the necessary proof of funds even if they are not going with you just yet. Oga Solomonwis & the other gurus in the house, please comment. |

@Ferdimako, I didn't do my masters degree in the same school as my 1st degree so I have had to go to both schools. The reason for evaluating both is that my 1st degree has nothing to do with my NOC while my masters degree does. I was trying to play safe and ensure my educational qualification is similar to my NOC because there was a major debate about the necessity of having ur educational evaluation be the same as ur NOC before d NL data loss. Anyway, I hope that WES will still evaluate it whenever the school sends the transcript. *keeping my fingers crossed. * |
Travel / Re: Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program-timelines Here by Liss: 5:11pm On Jul 16, 2014 |
I am a bit confused concerning my WES application. My first degree transcripts and verification have been sent to WES but my master's degree transcript is yet to sent but they have updated my status as evaluation awaiting. Does it mean they do not require my master's degree transcripts anymore? I received a mail saying they have sent my verification letter for my master's degree but I can't say if the school replied them but I am sure that the transcript for my master's degree has not gotten to them yet. so how come they are saying my documents have been received and evaluation is ongoing? Can anyone please shed some light on this? |

@Udoka2, Thanks a lot for this information. Highly appreciated. However, I am also shocked at the figures o Why so high? Abeg when you finish consulting and hear something more cost friendly, let me know. Will do as you suggested on the linkedin forums. Can I have the centre address/phone nos? Also, I presume it won't be manadatory to have tutorials as one can study by him/herself. Will also keep checking out for more information and will paste it on if I get. @Yemmight, Please try again to see if you can get through to your friend/former colleague o....at least we'ld be able to get a second opinion. |

Whatever, dude. Just realise that lots of people battle this question in their lives. Count yourself lucky you don't. |

AjanleKoko: I need to see if I got this right: Why do you consider it a dumb question? You might have experiences that makes the question seem dumb but in reality its the experience I am banking on. Not everyone has had the opportunity you've had working in either place. Considering you are regarded as a veteran in the career and travel section, I can say you just lost some of the respect I had for you. P.S I didn't bribe the moderator to put it on the front page. I just needed a few reasonable responses. |

@Shakara123 How does a one-man business make you feel like a star? |
Career / Re: Multinational Company Vs. One Man Business by Liss: 5:45pm On May 23, 2012 |
afam4eva: When you consider the pros and cons of both types of business, you'll see that it's a One-man business will pay more in the long run. For one, you'll have job security and will not be a slave to anybody. I quite agree with the job security being better but I don't understand how it pays more in the long run. Also, I actually believe you are a slave to the business owner in a one man business as you can get called at odd hours since the belief is that you should 'understand'. Hence, you become a 'slave'. Plus, aren't employees of one-man businesses subjected to the moods of their employers? |

The likes of Glo, Dangote are home grown, so for the sake of this discussion, let's class them as one-man business although they are multinationals in their own right... |
Career / Multinational Company Vs. One Man Business by Liss: 6:00pm On May 22, 2012 |
Which organisation is better and in what ways? (I am not referring to one-legged one-man business that does not pay salaries as and when due o)I say the benefits are often better in a multinational company but no job security whereas in a one man business job security is greater. Also, the benefits might also be good i.e. you might be getting different allowances (cash) that are not added to your payroll, unlike in a multinational where nothing more comes until salary. Also the equipment & tools in multi-national are way better than a one-man business but even then, one-man businesses still manage to have adequate systems in place to achieve results. I would vote a multinational over a one-man business any day but I want to be objective as a friend is currently thinking of jumping ship. Which organisation do you think is better and please share your experiences...... |

Yemmight, Just wanted to confirm if you have gotten any news from your old colleague concerning getting certified as a PHR,SPHR or GPHR here in Nigeria. Thanks |

Yemmight, Thanx a lot for your response. Please keep trying to get in touch with your former colleague. It will really be more beneficial for me as the prometric website did not provide links for Nigeria centres. Did your former colleague get certified here in Nigeria? |
Career / Re: Human Resource Professionals: by Liss: 10:03am On May 02, 2012 |
Can anyone who has been certified as a PHR, SPHR or GPHR (HRCI) assist on the possiblity of getting this exams done in Nigeria? I understand that the exams are done in prometric test centres but I have no idea where this centers are in Nigeria. Would appreciate any assistance. |
Health / Re: Why Do Nigerian Girls Hardly Visit The Gym? by Liss: 11:03am On Oct 11, 2011 |

lady gogo: That's good. Well, attending classes is mainly due to how capable you are and how much resources you have e.g time. Do you currently work? If you do not have much time to read and do not have enough access to books, I would suggest you go for classes as you might get more knowledge and esperience through teachers and mixing with other students. If you have enough time to read, adequate work experience and have access to books, I would suggest you skip classes as Intermediate 2 is a relatively easy level to pass. I know quite a number of people who never went for classes and made it at first attempt. All in all, it's about how far you are willing to prepare. Hope this helps. |

davmor: @ What level are you currently? If you are in say, 300level or 400level, would advise you hold on and finish your degree but if you are still in 100level, I would suggest you register with the institute and begin at the foundation level as there are two exams in a year, you just might be certified the same year you finish your university education. @ ladygogo, Many thanks for your response. I believe in miracles , which is why I want to do the HRCI certifications and increase my chances. BTW, have you registered with CIPM yet? |
Career / Re: Human Resource Management In Canada by Liss: 9:11am On Sep 28, 2011 |
@lady gogo Many thanks for your insight. I have actually being inducted as an associate member in CIPM and working as a HR professional in Nigeria. Was only thinking in the lines of getting Canadian certification because I am thinking in the lines of migrating. Your move back to Nigeria has made me ask if it would be worth it since you have all the necessary requirement and still felt the need to move back home. I guess that means it would be near impossible for me to achieve it. @davmor Soicology is a social science course and therefore in line with working in the HR environment. However, I would suggest you start your certification as soon as possible. BTW, R u currently studying in Nigeria or Canada? |
Career / Re: Human Resource Management In Canada by Liss: 6:53pm On Sep 27, 2011 |
@Lady Gogo What's the best method of entering the HRM market in Canada? I hear it's currently very competitive and cut-throat? However, my strategy is to get the SHRP certification with HRCI because the process of getting a CHRP is a bit too cumbersome for me as I currently reside in Nigeria. I just sent you an email. Would appreciate your response. |
