Sam is in hospital, in a coma maybe. She probably having a near-death-experience hence Michael's appearance.

The devil in me wants her dead, just so Tomi and Bayo would regret ever toying with someone's feelings. Not that I understand Remi's sudden "the girl I want to marry" comes from.

The height of konji fearing death made Remi speak in tongues

The nairaland literature section will explode come January.
Idea to Mr Seun or the mods...you should put each entrant on the front page different days of the month.
A lot of people like to read online and I bet nairaland will get phenomenal traffic.
Just a suggestion smiley

Chapter 9

Linda bent down to tighten the buckle on her sandals as she stood up smoothed her dress and looked at herself again in the mirror before pacing up and down in her living room waiting for Charles to pick her up.
If she played her cards right, she thought to herself as she walked around her living room, I will be out of this place and living in Banana Island soon.

She had gone to visit the baba in Ijebu and he refused to help her with Charles, as he said she had done stuff with Tunde.
Even after offering loads of money, in a huff of annoyance she decided to go and see someone else one of her friends had recommended. She had to take her recommendation seriously, as her Sugar daddy had put her in a house on Victoria Island, not a paltry flat like hers in Isolo.
The other Baba Lawo had asked her to bring something of Charles, which she had been lucky enough to find in his in his car.

His parting words had been he saw her moving in to a very great mansion, with her own quarters.

She would tell Tunde what to do with his silly flat in Isolo when she moved, she thought.

Charles was hosting a dinner for some of his colleagues from his Finance company that evening and he had asked her to oversee the catering.
They had been returning to her flat in Isolo a few days ago when he had mentioned to her that he would be having guests that weekend.

‘Please say yes’ as her looked at her earnestly.

‘Yes to what’ she said looking at him.

‘Helping with cooking a meal for my guests’ he said

‘Compared to the military operation of cooking and serving food for twenty kids, 5 adults should be a walk in the park for you’ he said.

‘Plus I want to show off my girlfriend’ as he leaned in to kiss her on the cheek.

That word had warmed and tingled her insides, like her drink of choice Hennessey never could or would do.

Catering sha, she never cooked for Tunde not to talk about 3 high profile guests. She definitely was not going to start now.

‘Charles, why don’t you ask your cook to come in just for the morning and between the two of us, we will get the meal sorted out.’ She said, as she laid her hand on his thigh.

‘Is that ok? she said.

‘Of course, why didn’t I think of that? He replied.

‘That’s sorted then, just tell me what you want to cook and I will give Sule the money’ he said, smiling at her.

They had been seeing each other for six weeks, he had been the perfect gentleman all the time, dropping her off at home and making sure she was always home by 9.

She had told him she was living with her Uncle and his wife and that her Aunt ran a very successful day care Centre. That she was working there while figuring out what she was going to do. They paid her a living wage and they gave her free boarding too, so that was a plus.

She had continued the spin; well she had to present herself as a decent girl abi, by telling him that she was currently doing a long distance childcare course.
This was why she was not always available to see him when he asked her out during the week. He had fallen for her explanation, hook, line and fucking sinker.
Gosh she was good, as she gave herself a self-congratulatory pat on her back.

She had initially been irritated by his insistence on dropping her off by nine; the latest she had been with him was half past nine.
‘Why do you always insist on getting me home so early’ she moaned one evening.

‘I don’t want your Uncle to get the wrong impression about me’ he said

‘We are going to meet one day and I don’t want him thinking that I have been disrespectful, by being out with you soo late’ he said.

‘It’s the same thing I expect of my sister and she knows that’ he continued.

If she hadn’t felt the hardness every time he had kissed or hugged her she would have thought he was an okobo.

He definitely had a good package, from what she could tell when she had leaned close into him, whenever she had hugged him.

He hadn’t demanded or asked her for sex, which was a bonus as her kitten could not keep up with the demands of the other three men she was seeing.

However, she had changed her tactics once she had found out that he was a widower, his wife having died three years ago and a hedge-fund Director. As far as she was concerned that meant he earnt an obscene amount of money.

No wonder he had dropped 250K on an ordinary handbag.

Hence, why she didn’t push for sleepovers, there would be plenty of that once she was ensconced in that house, she thought to herself.
OMG and what a fu.c.k.i..ng house it was.

He had invited her to dinner at his house on their third date, it had been an eye opener. It was amazing to see how the 0.1% lived she thought, as she had gone from room to room in awe.

Even the dogs had been receptive to her, Hennessey and Coke.
She had jokingly told him, what a coincidence he had named his dogs after her favourite drink.

She had had to take pictures of the outside façade and had placed them on her IG page, the house, no the mansion; she had even ensured that her location showed up on her Instagram page Banana fv.c.k.1.ng Island.

Banana Island, let’s see how you can top that Ruth, she had thought smugly to herself.

Now everyone will know who the big girl was, as her phone beeped, alerting her to Charles arrival outside.

On impulse she put the red negligee set, Tunde had bought her on a business trip to Milan in her overnight case, she was determined to stay on Banana Island till Monday if possible.

His guests arrived around 4pm.
There were three men two Arab looking men Abdul and Malik and one who looked eastern European called Stephan.

The men were even more charming than Charles, telling him that if Linda had any sisters they would marry them on the spot.
She was still basking in all the attention when she served dinner at 5pm.

Jollof rice, efo riro, assorted meat and whole fish with dundun and plaintain.

The compliments she received, cemented the effort the had put into her appearance that afternoon, as she embraced the role of mistress of the mansion.

The conversation at the dinner table was extremely lively, she’d had to steer them a few times away from swaps and hedges as they got into heated discussions about whose strategy worked best and yielded the best results.

They all got up and thanked her for a wonderful dinner, as she got up from the table and started putting the diner dishes away.
She was scrapping food into the bin, when Charles came into the kitchen and gave her a kiss on the lips and held her close thanking her for all the effort she had put in today.

She kissed him back as she tried to impart passion and a promise of what the night might bring.

‘Thank you Linda, for your help today. You might just have helped increase my bonus at work’ as he placed a kiss on her forehead.

‘Leave all that till tomorrow please come and relax with us in the Orangery’ he said, as he led her by the hand.

‘Let me just tidy up a bit, I will meet you there in ten minutes’. She said.

Wow, she said to herself bonus. Maybe she could get him to buy her a car, from what she had heard their bonuses were obscene amounts.

His favourite room he had mentioned to her the last time she had been there, was a room off the hall way from the main living room. It was made from a special kind of glass that let the sun in, but was pitch black from the outside. It was meant to be an orangery he had explained but he grew roses in there instead.

The scent as you entered the room was sublime you could immerse and lose yourself in it.
There must have been at least 15 varieties of roses, in varying shades black and red, the pictures of frogs on the wall added to the feel of being in an English garden on a hot balmy summer’s day.

The dogs must have been in the room recently, she thought, as she noticed two dog bowls were at the far end of the room.

The men were busy watching a major game between Manchester City and Man Utd when she entered the room, whose temperature was a bit warmer than she expected.

They must have switched the air conditioning off, she thought as she settled on to the sofa next to Charles.

They had just finished watching the first half, when she got up to ask if the men wanted more beer from the fridge in the corner, when Charles turned to her and told her to stand where she was, with that sweet earnest smile of his on his face.

‘Take your clothes off Linda’ he said, as he sat back on the sofa watching her with a strange look on his face.

Chapter 22

Sam lay on a sun lounger enjoying the sun rays on her body, as she covered her eyes with her sunglasses.

If anyone could define heaven this was it, she thought.

She was on an island, just off the mainland.
The sand was so clean it could only be described as white. Even though sand couldn’t really be white it looked that way as it shimmered luminously in the sunlight.

The air was just right, there was just a slight breeze in the air, helping the leaves of the coconut trees sway gently in the sun.
The sky was soo blue she couldn’t tell where the sky ended and the sea began, it was breathtakingly beautiful. The sea was bluish green on the horizon tempting swimmers into it's beauty.

On the horizon roughly a five minute leisurely swim away, was the mainland, bustling with people, noise and pollution.

The island was an oasis of calm, helping sooth her tired aching muscles.

Huge dolphins were swimming in the sea, just yards away from her. They seemed to jump in the air more frequently when they realised that she was watching them.

What a lovely sight, she thought to herself.

The sun felt soo good on her skin, as she moved to rub more sun screen on herself.

Bliss, she thought to herself as she settled deeper into the sun lounger.

A pina colada would not go amiss; she chuckled to herself as she realized she was thirsty.

She tried to get the attention of the waiters in the distance who were all dressed in white but they ignored her, which was very strange. They could see she was on the beach, it was the only sun lounger around.

She was about to get up and look for someone to get her a drink, when Michael appeared with a huge glass of water.

‘Hey you’ she said.
‘What are you doing here’ she said, as she smiled at him.

‘I am just here to give you some water, you are very thirsty at the moment’ he said, a sad smile on his face.

‘I really wanted a pina colada’ she smiled at him.

‘You won’t get that here Sam, just water and if you’re lucky fruit juice’ he said, passing the glass to her.

Chapter 21

Forty eight hours after the terrorist attack at Tokyo airport, Remi and Yomi landed at a private airstrip on the outskirts of Tokyo without incident.

As of yet no group had claimed responsibility for the heinous atrocity; which now saw the confirmed death at 560, 100 injured and an unknown number of people missing.

They were met at the airstrip by two of Yomi’s American friends. David Chang was around 5’8 with a stocky build who to Remi looked to be Japanese-American and Christopher was 6’2 and lean was an African-American.
Remi didn’t even need to ask, these guys were either ex-military or security. This made him wonder who Yomi really was and what had brought him to Nigeria in the first place.

They drove in sombre silence to their hotel to drop off their bags and formulate a plan of action, on how they would tackle the hospitals and emergency medical centers that had sprung up around the airport.

The scale of the missing was driven home, by the huge scale of the contact centre outside the airport where people had put up posters, pictures and contact details for their missing loved ones.

Sam’s picture now joined the board of the missing and the potentially dead victims of the atrocity.

Social media was agog with theories and conspiracies regarding the group who could be responsible. But most people did their best from their arm chairs around the world to set up and update a virtual missing persons board.

It was decided amongst them, that Yomi and Remi would team up together, while David and Christopher would make up the second team. They each had satellite phones so being out of range would never be an issue. They agreed to touch base in four hours.

They decided to start their search on foot and hence they started the gruesome task of searching for Sam.

It's funny how you get to grasp the fragility and temporariness of life when you are presented with the close up reality, of the aftermath of destruction and seeing death and sorrow around you at every turn.
Bodies and limbs had been removed but the blood was still visible on the ground.

The heart rending scenes of listening to parents as they searched for their children, husbands searching for wife’s, wife’s searching for their husbands. Little children crying for their parents seeking and looking for the comfort of their embrace, that was now lost forever.

By the end of the first 4 hours on the ground they knew how to say in Japanese.

‘Have you seen this black woman’
