Chapter 6

Eliora had noticed the hesitation and surprise in Devine’s voice, and his attempt at trying to hide it as she had walked over to him. He was at least 6 feet tall and athletic his suit showing off his body to perfection, a good looking man with blue eyes and dark blond hair. He looked to be in his early forties. He certainly took care of himself and it showed.

She had noticed the other guy, in reception when she had walked in; he acted like he owned the place as he tried chatting up Stacy the receptionist.

Devine signed them in and they followed him through the door as he led them upstairs to the second floor of the building and punched in the security code for the door.

The floor they walked into was huge, it was made up of cubicles, a bank of huge printers and photocopiers dominated one corner of the room. Row after row of filing cabinets dominated another part of the floor. There were boxes everywhere, it was a cold case unit after all, paper and boxes were part of the job description.

The Kent Cold case unit must have built up enough loyalty points with Blue Mountain Office storage to take the whole building out to lunch twice.

Plants had been placed around the floor to add an ambience to an otherwise generic over crowded office floor. A few round tables, used for meetings by the different teams were scattered around the room. Four huge television screens were placed around the walls, a common sight in most offices since the terror attacks that had plagued the western countries in the post 9/11 era.

Eliora noticed a lot of the cubicles were empty as they approached the rear of the room, Devine stopped in front of a group of men who were scattered over two of the meeting tables.

‘Hi guys, I’d like to introduce you to James and Eliora’.

‘James is our new Admin support person and Eliora will be joining the Cold case team’

Devine introduced Eliora and James to Detective Sergeant Man Jenkins, Detective Constable Bennet and DC Terry Elgin.

James had been allocated a desk near a big bank of filing cabinets; they continued walking towards the end of the room and stopped in front of an office at a quieter end of the floor.

Devine turned towards Eliora ‘Some machines were delivered and installed a couple of days ago, so everything should be working.’ as he opened the door to the room.

‘There should be an envelope on the table with the log-in details for all the different databases and a pass card for coming into the building’.
‘Thank you, Sir’ she responded as she followed him into the room.

‘Right I will be in my office; can we have a quick meeting in an hour? DC Bennet will bring over some files for you to start looking at’ he said, as he walked out of her office.

###########################################################################3

The stares she had received as Devine had walked in with them and introduced her to the other officers had not been lost on her.

She really hoped she would fit in here and not be labelled a freak, she sighed. This move had to work; she needed to leave her old life behind and all the things that had gone with it.

Looking around the office she realised it was a reasonable sized room with a window that looked out onto the car park, but it looked like it still managed to get a lot of sun during the day. There were a few boxes stacked in one corner and four plants were placed together in one corner of the room.

One plant had been placed on its own in another corner of the room; it looked different to most office plants she had ever seen.

She put her bag on the table, switched on the machines and placed her index finger in the two different identification slots for the machines to continue booting. She was rummaging through the drawers when she heard a knock on the door.

Eliora looked up and saw a man walking in with a stack of files in his arms.

He looked like he was in his late fifties, balding, with grey eyes and a thickening waist, the broken veins that dotted his nose and the blood shot eyes signalled a heavy drinker.

‘I come bearing gifts’ he said, as he walked reluctantly into her office, his body language and eyes telling another story.

‘Hi I’m Fred Bennet’ holding out his hand

‘Hi Fred, thanks for bringing these files through’ shaking his hand.

‘Every new person who joins the team reviews the top ten cases first; it helps bring a fresh perspective to the files. Any new information should be added to the notes, located at the front of the file’.
‘The filing cabinets in front of, um, James hold a lot of the detailed information that might be missing from the files, if you need a specific item’ he said as he set the files down on her desk.
‘If you need any more information let me know, I sit in the office at the other side of that cubicle’ pointing to a cubicle to the left of the door.
‘The toilets and kitchen are down the corridor towards the left’.

With that parting shot, he walked out of her office.

Eliora decided to have a quick look at the files; she needed to get stuck in as soon as possible, anything to help normalise her situation. She got her notebook and a red fluffy pencil case out of her bag and placed them on the table.

She was about to sharpen her pencils and line them up on the table, when she realised that the temperature in the room had dropped by at least six degrees.

She was shivering; she looked towards the window to see if there was a draft coming through the vents or the windows. But all the triple glazed windows were firmly shut.

She walked towards the radiators and touched them, they were warm, had the maintenance people mistakenly left the air conditioner on? She looked towards the ceiling looking for a knob or a switch to adjust the temperature.

She decided to wait and see if the radiators would make a difference as she picked up the first file from the stack Fred had dropped off earlier.
It was at least six years old and as freezing cold as the room she was sitting in, by the look of the dates on the cover of the file.

She was about to turn to the first page, when a strange feeling came over her.

The back of her head felt it as if it was trying to dispel the grey matter from her brain, trying to pop it out of her skull; her heart was racing fast as a feeling of light headedness came over her.

The coldness in the room intensified, she could feel goose bumps on her arms when all of sudden a boy appeared in her office, next to her chair.

Chapter 16

Remi walked into the steam room deep in thought. Gosh he ached all over, as he absent mindlessly rubbed on his shoulder. There was a twinge there that just would not go away.
MM still had him in knots even though he wasn't with her.

He had fallen asleep on the way home in the car with Bayo, he had planned to question Bayo about the mysterious creature he had been with that night.

He walked towards the left hand corner of the sauna and placed his towel on the hot bench. He looked around in the the sauna and noticed someone lying down in the corner. A woman by the look of the swimwear.

He sighed loudly as he laid down on his towel and took himself back to Saturday night. It had been physically and emotionally draining. He had been doing some research on google regarding rope, as the sight that had welcomed him after the blind fold came off was really breathtaking.
It had also scared the sh..it out of him.
That woman was up there in the kink weird stakes, but for some strange reason he trusted her.

It took a certain kind of person to turn that that kind of rope play into an art. No wonder there were pictures all over the club, they were very tasteful and artistic pictures, with human subjects in various forms of bon.d.a.ge

She was something else and he wanted to find out who she was. Bayo was going to have to tell him what he knew.

Come to think of it, how did Bayo find out about that place?

There was no way in heaven that they had advertised, it was too discreet and too secretive to start putting up billboards stating that there was a new k.in.k club in town.

He was rubbing his shoulder again when the lady in the far corner stirred and got up, to stretch her legs. Giving him a good eyeful of her behind in the dark gloom.

She was about to walk out, when Remi recognised her.

‘Sam, is that you? He said, hopefully.

She looked over her shoulder. ‘Remi Hi, fancy seeing you here’. she replied

'How are you’ she said as she stared at him, as he rubbed his shoulder again.

‘Are you OK, have you pulled a muscle?’ she asked.

‘Hmm, no I don’t think so’ as he sat up and looked at her.

She was wearing a blue and green one piece, but whoever had designed it, knew what they were doing. It was s.e.xy, moulding to the curves of her body in the right places, with a low neckline leaving you wondering what the wearer looked like naked.

She looked good in it, her skin that was exposed was dark smooth and inviting. I bet it will be as soft and silky as it looks he thought. All of a sudden I am being surrounded by dark chocolate beauties, he mused to himself.

'Ok, I’m just going for a shower, I will be right back’ she said as he watched her walk out.

He laid back down on his towel, as an unbidden thought entered his mind, Sam and MM together with him. Some thr.e.es.ome, that would be he thought to himself. Sighing very very deeply as he let his imagination run wild.
I must be deprived of something if my thoughts were going that way, he chuckled to himself

Too much exposure to that club and the fact that he was as h.or.n.y as hell since last night didn't help.
The rejection had stung, he had been so wound up that he could swear he could sense the taste of her in the bathroom.

He needed to do something, he needed to get laid. Otherwise he was sure Woody would actually fall off in protest.

He didn’t not want to go back to the lady he had meet at the club and have another one night stand with her, as she had asked him for money after. Goodness me they were everywhere peddling their wares, he had been shocked.

His FWB was also beginning to get a bit too clingy for his liking, plus there had been an accident that night. That put the fear of God in him.

It must be the similar skin, that had kicked off his subconscious, about th.re.es.om.e.s he sighed. As he tried unsuccessfully to move his mind away from those base needs and wants.

Might as well try his luck again with Sam, he thought, she did have a body to die for after all.

He went back to rubbing his shoulder again, when he noticed her making her way back into the steam room.

‘Hi, can I join you? water dripping of her as she sat next to him.

‘Are you sure you haven’t injured yourself? Where does it hurt' she asked.

Down there, he nearly said, sputtering as he caught himself.

‘Hmm, I think I did too much on the free weights. But I am OK’ he said.

He noticed an amused glint in her eyes.

‘I did follow all the instructions you gave me’ he said.

‘Did you stretch after’ she asked

‘Oh YES!!' as he swallowed slowly. Sh..it I sound like those Churchill adverts... OH YES!!

I did…..I stretched soo much last night, he thought I came on the floor. Sh..i.t. his mind was wondering and finding innuendos where there were none.

He noticed that she was staring at him intently, a good thing this room is dark he thought otherwise she would see his cheeks.

‘Erm, yes I did. Unless you can think of any other kind of stretching I can do’ he said. Trying and succeeding he hoped in keeping a very straight face. Damn he should have paid more attention in his drama classes as a kid, he thought to himself.

‘Here let me show you another stretching exercise’ she said as she took hold of his shoulder.

She manipulated his shoulder in such a way, pressed a few pressure points and voila the twinge was gone.

‘Wow, thank you Sam. I think I should have you as my personal trainer for exercise and stretching after, what more could a guy ask for. He said as he winked at her.

He heard her giggle.
'Are you trying to flirt with me Remi, I can demonstrate what you need to do' she said.

'I only helped you a few minutes ago, as it looked like you were in a bit of pain'. A quizzical look on her face.

There was something that was familiar about the current tableau that he couldn’t place his finger on, as he put it to the back of his mind. It was a feeling of déjà vu.

'Can I buy some lunch today if you’re not in a rush?' Remi blurted out.

She hesitated for a minute.

‘It’s only lunch Sam, I promise I won’t eat you’ oh sh.i..t. I need to get out of this room and get rid of all the s..e.xx innuendo's going on in his head.

He really hoped she hadn’t picked up on his thoughts.

Something in her eyes told him she was considering the offer, phew she hadn’t picked up on the eating part.

Which showed her mind wasn’t in the gutter like his.

‘Oh, that’s kind of you Remi. Where do you have in mind’ she replied.

Chapter 8

The room the size of a large meeting room for fifty people, was situated in a big warehouse on the outskirts of the city. It was a dark and gloomy neighbourhood, most people never ventured that far into the industrial estate after dark.

He took his seat amongst the other guests in the room and looked around at the high rollers in the room. He wasn’t there to buy any stock but to observe how the man on the podium handled his auctions.

Each piece of inventory had been tagged with a lot price and other distinctive features that made the piece worthy of the price tag involved, with the hope of persuading the buyer looking at the goods to put in an offer.

He was here to watch and learn, learn how to make the men part with their money for their new disposable toys.

He noticed people looking his way, he did look a bit young to be in such a place.

Luckily, he had been blessed with great skin, his mum’s genes he always said, he had smooth fair unlined skin with no blemishes that on a woman would have won her accolades, on him it sometimes was wasted. However it certainly had its advantages. It helped him look younger than his real age.

The auction was finished and the man with the gravel hit it on the table three times to get the buyers attention.

‘Gentlemen, for those of you who need to put a seal of ownership on your goods, you have a choice of branding, barcoding or tattooing. Please speak to John over there, that additional service is on the house.'

Absolute fu.c.k.ing genius he thought, more soo when he heard the heart rending scream of the first woman being branded with her owner’s seal.

The irony of the first word of the announcement made him chuckle while he hardened in excitement.

Chapter 7

swann, bibijay, skarlett, soleski01

Enitan peered through the tiny window of the plane, as she watched the lights fade away to tiny pinpricks. The plane began its ascent into the clouds, supposedly taking her away to a nice place in the clouds. Instead the clouds were dark grey and gloomy, staring back at her making her know that they were not happy either.
She could see the reason for their displeasure, the rain drops on the wings of the plane.

The past few weeks had been hell for her.

Her job definitely had been taken away from her with no recourse on her part, assault on senior staff was frowned upon. No one wanted to believe that the man, who was senior to her in rank and age had assaulted her, it had never been her word against his.

It had been his final and only words full stop. She felt sorry for the other women working there, but that was no longer her problem.

She had decided to follow Friday the day after her explosive blow out with Tunde, to find out where the strumpet was living. Tunde had mentioned that she was going to get a new dining table.

Friday had set off that morning unaware that she had hired a bike to follow him, she had dressed up in a hijab so she was not worried about being recognised. Her heart had started beating rapidly the minute she realised they were heading towards Isolo, no she thought it could not be.
Please God, she said. He would not do that would he?
She wondered where the man she had married had gone?

As the bike wound along the road behind the car, her suspicions grew. But she still tried to bury herself in denial, he wouldn’t would he?

She remembered a while ago when he had told him that they had been successful in renting out their flag ship flat. They had both been in agreement that to make an area more salubrious it always started with the first nice building then others followed and so on.

That’s what had happened all the other houses that sprung up after them, had improved the area and couples were coming in droves to rent properties in the area.

When the last tenant had left, Tunde had taken it upon himself to find a new tenant. He came back home one night to say a couple had come to see the place and had offered two years rent upfront. He said they would be stupid to turn down that kind of offer down.
She was still ruminating with those thoughts when she saw Friday stop the car in front of their flat.

And there she was opening the door for him, at the flat she had just been thinking about.

She cast a critical eye over her, Enitan could not deny the fact that she looked pretty. Shit she thought.

She told the bike man to take her back. This slap on the face helped her realise that the decision she had made the evening she had confronted Tunde with the video was the correct one.

She came back to the here and now when she realised that she was no longer staring at the receding buildings but her reflection in the glass.
She hadn’t made up her mind where she was going to stay but she knew, she would think about something before the plane landed.
