Cheap. Very cheap.
Are you sure this is it? Cos SAS usually provide scholarship for such cheap program. If you are sure, apply.

Okay, thank you so much Penintential

Yes! You can get schorlarships from various awarding bodies while studying. Majority of them are based on academic performance. If you have a very good academic performance, sure you will get. Also there are some schools that you can apply for scholarship programs once you get admission but don't know if Usask has those ones.

If a professor is willing to be one's supervisor at University of Saskatchewan but says outrightly that she has no funding and asks one to seek funds from other resources, does this mean one can still risk the application hoping to get funds externally?

Please can you suggest a way around this? Lecturers in this proposed research interest area (Pharmacy or Health ICT) are extremely rare. Only two found so far.

No personal funds. Should I let go or seize the opportunity regardless?

Just a piece of advise for guys previously refused for insufficient fund to paid tuition and support yourself.

If you intend to pay your tuition(part or full), great idea.
If you intend to transfer the cash (naira) into your account, endeavour to use a CURRENT account in your name. Saw a GCMS note sometime ago and the VO major concern was that huge funds were transfered to PA's SAVINGS account and he/he was worried PA cannot remove the money at once to pay for tuition because of the limit of transactions placed on NAIRA savings account.

They obviously know all the banking regulations, be smart too. They know FORM A or any convertible currency transactions will be in a current account.

Anywhere, his visa was approved today. What did he do differently? Transferred equivalent of his tuition + $CAD 10,000 to his current account ONLY!

#If you really need to know the main reason for a visa refusal, get your GCMS file. It's an eye opener!

What school please?

dokkitaa:
I intend to apply for a PhD in Toxicology. I contacted a supervisor who asked me to apply showing interest in my profile
BSc Biochemistry 4.6/7.0-2/1
Msc Toxicology 5.0/7.0
There is funding attached to the course even at Masters level and there is no limited time to apply for the course. You can apply anytime.
My question is considering the rate of competition in universities in Canada, will I be considered even the supervisor has granted me a go ahead, they required a 70% cgpa system in the school although I don't know the rank I would be in their system. However my question is would it not be best if I would opt for another Masters by research in the same course where I would have upper hand in the process than pursuing a PhD which would be extra competitive.

What would you suggest house especially from our experience friends before I apply?

Thank you.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Advice Needed:best Country For Nigerian-trained Doctors To Migrate To??? by LMay(f): 3:48am On Feb 20, 2017
Laird:
Best options now to My opinion are UK plab, Saudi arabia and Dubai (uae), Ireland and South Africa

1)
of which Dubai needs 2 years post house job experience.writing then writing uae prometric exam in Ghana(nearest to Nigeria centre), if you pass fly to Dubai(uae) with a 3 month visiting visa and your Nigerian certificates certified by ministry of foreign affairs, medical tests and look for a job
If You get a job in Dubai, convert your visiting visa to work visa there in Dubai(uae) you can also look at cheaper non Dubai emirates to save more money if you want to write exams for ukplab, USMLE exams, Australia AMC to.move later

Also
he following examinations have been designated as DHCC Approved Physician Exams of which no further extra need to pass Dubai uae exams

• Australian Medical Council Exam – www.amc.org.au/exam.asp • TRAS (Ireland -Temporary Registration Assessment Scheme) Parts I, II, and III – www.medicalcouncil.ie/

• PLAB (UK) Parts I and II – www.gmc-uk.org/register/default.htm

• USMLE (US) Parts I and II (CK) – www.usmle.org

• Applicants certified by ECFMG are eligible for consideration without being required to pass an additional examination.

• Applicants who have passed Parts I and II of the Royal College exams are eligible for consideration without being required to pass an additional examination.

• Applicants who have passed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Parts I and II are eligible for consideration without being required to pass as additional exam

Also a religious sensitive and patient sensitive environment

2)
Saudi Arabia has a 3 year post graduation requirement then applying through 2 major agents in Nigeria, agents collect cash and arrange visas, arrange ticket and hospital postings from Saudi hospitals. It is a religiously sensitive environment with female restrictions but guys go to gather money to write exams to move up to Dubai (uae), UK plab, US USMLE, Australia AMC,
also need Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs certificate verification, mdcn certificate of good standing, maybe transcripts, maybe medicals. Saudi Arabia processing takes some time too..some months....ask the agents and ask questions too at the Saudi embassy

3)

Uk plab is all about getting your IELTS academic 7.o minimum in all sections and 7.5 cumulative average

Then registering your scores on GMC website and getting your GMC number

Applying and registering for March or November plab1 exam international exam dates in Nigeria, Sudan, southafrica, Dubai any centre of choice

You can also write plab1 multiple times in the UK if You have the cash

After passing Plab1 apply for UK visiting visa to go to UK and write plab2 exam and 1 month of plab2 school in hammed, swammy or Samson plab2 school is advised before exam

Find out if there is need for UK clinical attachments

If You pass plab2 in UK, get a job offer and fly back to Nigeria to write UKvi IELTS and apply for tier 2 labour shortage visa in uk nigerian embassywith Your job sponsorship letter
May need Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs certificate verification, mdcn certificate of good standing, maybe transletter, maybe medicals

Some people go for UK masters and write all the plab 1 and 2 there in UK and convert their UK student visa to UK tier2 work visa there in the UK for a UK government fee after passing plab1 and plab2
You cannot convert a uk visiting visa to UK tier2 work visa in the UK even if You pass plab1 and 2 and get a job and a job sponsorship letter. You have to come back to Nigeria and apply for a work visa tier 2visa with your letter of employment and job sponsorship letter and number from your UK medical employer and also do the IELTS ukvi exam if you did only IELTS academic before writing plab.
You would be given a 30 days visiting visa to travel to Uk and You will collect Your 3 year temporary residence and workpermit from uk government inside Uk.after flying and moving to the uk within 30 days of receiving your temporary 30 day visa.

You can only convert Your uk student visa to UK tier2 workvisa after passing UK plab1 and plab2 and getting a job and a job sponsorship letter there and you pay the visa conversion/ adjustment/ fees to the appropriate UK government agency/ authority there in the uk

I also heard You can do the IELTS ukvi academic before taking plab1 and still use the same IELTS ukvi academic result for applying for your uk tier2 work visa after passing plab 1 and plab2

Each ielts exam result only lasts two years.
Best Ielts test for plab is ielts ukvi academic

5. IRELAND EXAM IS CALLED PRES

Doctors holding an acceptable primary medical qualification awarded following an examination for that qualification. The Medical Council maintains a list of primary medical qualifications which will be accepted for the purposes of admitting an applicant for temporary registration to the Assessment Scheme.
Doctors who have completed an acceptable internship equivalent to six months experience in medicine in general and six months experience in surgery in general.
Doctors who possess the requisite knowledge and skill for the efficient practice of medicine.
Doctors of good character.
The Medical Council will not accept that any doctor possesses the requisite knowledge, skill and language proficiency unless he/she has passed or has been exempted from an Assessment Examination Scheme conducted by, or on behalf of, the Medical Council. The Assessment Scheme assesses the ability of the doctor to practice as a Senior House Officer, in a safe manner, under consultant supervision.

Applying for temporary registration

Doctors who wish to apply for temporary registration must complete fully Forms TR1/TR2 and attach the relevant supporting documents. The Forms will be considered by the Medical Council and assessed as to the applicant's suitability to apply for temporary registration.
The Medical Council will determine the applicant's eligibility to sit the Assessment Scheme or to be exempted from the Assessment Scheme. An applicant who considers he/she meets the criteria for exemption from the Assessment Scheme must specify, on the application form, the grounds on which the exemption is being sought.

All other applications will be considered for the purpose of sitting the Assessment Scheme. Applicants may be required to fulfil other conditions as specified by the Medical Council, to enable the Medical Council to make a decision in each case. Any expenses incurred by an applicant in fulfilling the Medical Council's requirements for granting temporary registration, are the responsibility of the applicant.

Applicants who fail to complete fully Forms TR1/TR2 and/or who fail to enclose the specified documents shall have their applications declared invalid by the Medical Council and the fee of IR400 pounds shall be forfeited.

Document(s) furnished in support of an application for temporary registration will be verified by the Medical Council. Where documents cannot be verified within a period of eight weeks of receipt, the application shall be declared invalid and the fee of IR400 pounds shall be forfeited.

Doctors declared eligible to sit the Assessment Scheme will be notified of the dates and locations of the assessments. Eligible candidates will be required to first sit the Assessment Scheme within a period of two years from the date of eligibility.

Doctors declared eligible to apply for temporary registration will be required, on making application for a initial period of temporary registration, to furnish the originals of all documents furnished in support of their applications a currently dated (within three months), certificate of good standing from the registration authority with which they hold full registration.

B. Assessment Examination

Doctors intending to work in Ireland must first apply to the Medical council of Ireland regarding their eligibility and the need to undergo assessment examination. Following are the information regarding the assessment scheme as outlined by the medical council.

The assessment is structured to assess the candidate's ability to demonstrate professional knowledge and clinical judgment along with English language skills. The subjects which are tested in the clinical components include

Medicine
Surgery
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Paediatrics
Psychiatry
This assessment scheme comprises of two basic components.
English Language component
Medical component

English Language component

(a) The candidate's fluency in English will be assessed by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Modules. The test consists of four modules: Listening (30 minutes), Academic Reading (60 minutes), Academic Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (15 minutes).
(b) The minimum standard required is an overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four modules. For the purpose of admission to the Assessment Scheme for Temporary Registration, the IELTS test score will be valid for a maximum period of three years.

(c) IELTS can be taken at 210 approved centres in 105 countries. It is therefore possible for candidates to pass the test in their home countries before sitting the medical component of the Assessment Scheme for Temporary Registration. The IELTS test may also be taken at the same time as the medical component at specified test centres in Ireland.

(d) Applicants who intend to sit the IELTS in Ireland as part of the Assessment Scheme should complete the enclosed IELTS application form and return it to the Medical Council together with Forms TR1/TR2 and supporting documentation as specified. The codes required to complete the IELTS application form are attached together with contact addresses for further information and details of how to obtain IELTS specimen materials.

(e) Applicants who have sat the IELTS and obtained an overall band score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four modules, should forward the original of their IELTS Test Report Form. The medical component of the Assessment Scheme must be passed within three years of obtaining the necessary IELTS result.

Medical component

This comprises of three sections:
1. Multiple choice questions
The Multiple Choice Question paper will consist of 60 questions with a total of 5 stems per question. The questions will be divided evenly among the following subjects: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Paediatrics. The examination will last for two-and-a-half hours.
2. Oral medical assessment
This test assesses the candidate's clinical knowledge and communication skills.( 20 minutes duration). This will be conducted by two medical assessors. One assessor will be drawn from a medical or surgical discipline while the other will be drawn from paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology or psychiatry.

3. Clinical Examination
This test in the form of an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE ) and lasts for 90 minutes. Candidates rotate through a series of task units or stations, so that for any one station all candidates are assessed on the same issues by the same examiners.

At each station, the candidate is directly observed performing tasks such as:

taking history
performing physical examination
demonstrating a practical procedure
Interpreting a chest x-ray, ECG or lab results
Patient management/ education exercises
There will be 15 stations in total including 2 rest stations. Each station is of 6 minutes duration.

Examination centres
The assessments are held in rotation in Dublin, Galway and Cork and take place on four occasions each year in one of these centres, provided there are a sufficient number of applicants for each assessment. The IELTS test usually takes place on the first day and the medical components usually take place on the seco
might ask to see them before they decide whether to allow your entry to Ireland.

CocoLav, don't be deceived with that ETX e-transcript thingy. Applied to OAU for transcript 3 months ago via etx.com.ng, still waiting oh after 3 months. Guess what? It's electronic transcript not even the paper one. Paid N16.5k.

Sent someone to school transcript office to find out what's happening. The file is simply lying fallow on the table amongst hundreds of other files while the officer in charge chats away. After much persuasion, he gave the person a note to go to faculty to ask them to write out the results.

The woman at the faculty promised she would send it to transcript office the ffg day. The man at the transcript office promised it will be ready in 2 days. Well, this is 4 weeks & some days after the promise of 2 days, the result is still at the faculty.

When someone helped us follow it up yesterday, the woman at the faculty asked to speak with transcript owner on phone. Guess wjat she said on phone? "Ehn, did you bring me convocation and induction rice & drink? You have to buy me malt as substitute" To say I was shocked is an understatement. Our proxy had to settle her with a N500 recharge card before she began to sound promising again.

Here we are 3 months, some days, N16.5k application fee, a few tips here & there despite ETX, and STILL WAITING!

Honestly, I give up on Nigeria.

NYSC / Re: NYSC - A Useless And Worthless Program That Has Outlived Its Relevance by LMay(f): 2:17pm On Dec 04, 2016
Well done with the updates TRalph.

As regards the death of the Kano corp member, I need some clarification to understand how the camp clinic bureaucracy is run.

Who determines the eligibility of a patient for a referral? Of course, I know it should be a doctor. Is this the same in camp clinics or do some powers-that-be grossly overlook any need for referral?

From the account of the girl's elder sister (who happens to be a nurse) that I read online, she said her sister told her on WhatsApp that she had body pains and her temperature was high. Her sis told her to go the camp clinic. She went there and was told she was pretending and only wanted to escape parade. This shows this wasn't an acute case at the beginning. Why not give her at least paracetamol an analgesic; it will bring down the fever and relieve her of the pains. From your account, I'll like to assume there was no paracetamol or any other analgesic available to work with.

The corp doctor allegedly told the girl's sis and uncle on phone, after much pressure, that he will give her a placebo so he injected her with an unknown drug so that the "pretentious" girl and her family can get off his neck. Not long after that, the girl began to have rashes (hives). Any trained medical personnel should know this is an anaphylactic reaction as a result of the treatment given and should know it is a medical emergency.

Of course, I agree that a camp clinic that is grossly understocked would not have Adrenaline inj. to combat the anaphylaxis but why didn't he refer her immediately? He instead said he wants to watch her for some hours. shocked Who watches anaphylactic shock for hours knowing it's life threatening? By this time, the girl had started complaining of her tongue "twisting." When her sister called back, her speech was slurred. Her sis requested that she should be transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital as this was obviously a case that cannot be handled at the clinic, the doc insisted on watching her. At this point, he allegedly sent out her friends and refused to take any more calls from her family. He switched off her phone.

Later, the girl was rushed to Gwarzo general hospital where there was no doctor on duty. Smh @Nigeria. The nurse on duty admitted to her sis there was no drug or doctor on ground. Well, the young lady sadly passed on.

My point? This is a case of Medical error coupled with negligence and understocked health facilities all over the country.

1. A case that wasn't acute became a medical emergency due to iatrogenic reasons that you caused by giving random injection as placebo without taking her medical history into account and yet you decided to watch her when things were beginning to go out of hand? This corp doctor well understood he was working in a grossly understocked facility, why did he decide to watch her?

2. Why can't the FG put at least 1 experienced hand (a consultant) in a camp clinic serving thousands of people undergoing excruciating paramilitary drills day in-day out? There's every tendency that the camp administrators won't take corp doctors serious owing to the silly age custom in Nig but a consultant is an agbalagba like them overiding any bureaucracy that may want to come up with referrals. He's also well experienced to recognise an emergency when he sees one.

3. Why is paramilitary drills necessary if the sole aim of NYSC is for national integration? Dem wan recruit una into army? A light morning jogging is okay. The rest should be only social activities.

3b. Why make soldiers train civilians? Soldiers are trained hardcore. They are trained not to have mercy. They will never believe a sick corp member asking not to partake in the drills of the day. They lack sympathy by training. They are trained to kill. So expect extremely rash attitude from them. I blame the FG for this. Never put civilians who are not terrorists at the mercy of soldiers.

4. When will Nigeria ever grow? Nothing works in that country. Hospital is rubbish. Education is not working. Police is not working. Electricity is not working. Govt is not working and lots more. My heart bleeds cry

RIP Oladepo Ifedolapo. Your nation failed you!

Okay, was your TRV approved? Yours and your wife's

executivegej:
It is more scary to claim you are leaving your wife and children for a long time. They are wiser and know the way of Nigerians- first the husband applies and later brings his family. So they tend to punish you by denying you even if they will give you later. Personal experience- research + sowp were approved for husband and wife in 8/9wks. I would not want to leave my spouse in Naija, it is a young marriage so I added a letter to explain why I want my spouse with me. No too much story. White man not vindictive as you think. You can include as many lettters as possible. Explain your own case. Never do copy and paste.

Always assume that VOs are wiser than you.

For home ties, use land documents and state you have family members in Naija- parents and siblings. Some use leave of absence letter too.

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by LMay(f): 3:56pm On Oct 31, 2016
Wow, wouldn't that look desperate? How then do you prove home ties to the VO?

executivegej:
A tip for all: Make good use of SOWP, apply for you and your spouse at the same time. No need trying visitor's visa for a spouse. Experience from inland show it is way better and in better stead to be granted.

I used DHL recently. It took 3 working days and cost N12650

Seriously? OAU forced us to use etx.com.ng, very useless company. 4 weeks now & still counting, they are yet to deliver the electronic transcript to Waterloo. Not even paper copy. Yet we paid N16,500 just for 1 e-copy.

ETX is a rip-off, I'm so pissed.
