He just told you d exact opposite.
Benz Engines, esp M112 ,M272 and many others are bulletproof.
Let me not mention anything about d fragility of Toyota engines and gear,so we don't derail.
I'm aware sir. I just wanted to end the argument. He was distracting me.

Except that Mercedes engines are typically solid, apart from the crappy M271.
Exactly what I was told. (Straight 4 engine)

The person that taught you that didn't tell complete the story.

The Benzedes may need engine replacement every few years that's why it's cheap but long after the Corolla body has mangled, disfigured and gone out of trend and the owner no longer knows what to do with it, the engine will still be bought by boat makers and factory operators to power their machines. Nobody really wants to change Corolla engine that's why its more expensive. cheesy
Okay, thanks for your input.

What should you be on the look out for?

* Please test drive the ride. Drive it enough to experience gear changes from 1 - 3. It's important.

* Watch the temperature gauge. You want the gauge to be at 90 - 95oC and the fan should pick up at this instance. The temperature rise should be swift too.

* When you power on the car, you DON'T want your fan to start immediately. If it does, then that's a red flag. The thermostat and coolant temperature sensor might have been disconnected, the engine must have been ran cold for as long as the seller has had it in Nigeria. There might be engine issues ahead.

* Test drive on rough roads to know how much you will incur on shocks and wishbones.

* Make sure you arrive when engine is cold, so you know if the seller has a defective MAF by being on the look out for the tachometer fluctuating rapidly b4 stabilizing.

* While test driving, watch the fuel gauge and check if it flunctuates. If it does then you will deal with a defective fuel sender unit later on.

* Check and make sure all dash lights are functional, all window controls too etc. Check for oil leaks. 4 cylinders can leak oil.

Some of these points will help you bargain a lower price, while some are pointers that you shouldn't buy it.

You can post the pics here....cos I think there are very few W202's that still look pristine in Nigeria.
Though this is not directed to me but I learnt immensely from this. Thanks for sharing.

Run from anything Benzedes to avoid changing your storyline.

"I could have married in 2021 but she dumped me after aj used my house rent to replace engine so the landlord threw us out". cheesy
Funny you. To me, there's no bad car so far the parts are readily available at the local markets. Today I also learnt that 2003 to 2006 corrola engine and gear are more expensive than e320 2003 to 2005 engine and gear.

Visit ladipo (Ojekunle), ask for prices of the parts. Especially those modules. And make your decision. Coming here won't help you, they will confuse you.
Thanks, where is ojekunle?

So he will be using price of parts to make choice? How many parts? You are the one confusing him.Coming here has already helped him.
I actually visited a friend here at surulere Benz markets to have an idea of some parts, like the engines, gears, SAM and underneath. He educated me on parts I may have to change often. Generally I discovered the c class has the cheaper parts. On my own, I love the e class interior. I have told my brother to check for a e320 that is not 4matic.

Thanks nakoks

nakoks:
Better to go for the 2003 C320 than the 2005 C240

The suspension and shafts of the 4matic are more expensive and the C240 is a lazy V6.
Thanks bro

KINGreignn:
Make that 2003 C320 a choice but it should be 2005 C320. It's the best of power and reliability, and it's also not too expensive to replace the engine.
Your marital status shouldn't suffice now. At least for now.
My brother said the car mart close to his house has the 2003 c320 and the 2005 c240 4matic. Maybe I should pick the 2005 c240 then. Or should I just stick to the 2003 c320.
Why I mentioned my marital status is to let you know that I don't need the space in the e class for now.

Good evening all, kindly help me to fine tune my decision on this 2 cars, though same brand.
2003 Mercedes c320 and a 2005 Mercedes e320. I am a bachelor. I just want a good car without electrical issues. Which of the 2 cars is more reliable and cheap to maintain in terms of parts.

IMO, Sanwoolu is a puppet, no balls @ all.
He had his own plans of attacking this pandemic before Buhari's speech on lockdown. He should have gone ahead with those plans regardless.

Level 1 to 12 stop going to work,
Close down of markets and religious centre.
3 passengers on a role in public buses.

You are the governor for Christ sake and you know Lagos more than this FG boys.

He is just forming one stupid loyalty.

A scanner won't tell you everything.

Test driving should be within limits.
Speeding is totally different from reckless driving.

To fully test a car, you need to get up to speeds of 80km/hr to go through all the gears.

There will be need to accelerate quickly to confirm the gears. And also accelerate slowly to confirm same gears. Some cars slam into gear when driven slowly whilst the same error will be masked when accelerated quickly.

It's good you stood your ground with the reckless would be buyer.

Some people sha don't use common sense when doing things.
He actually checked the gear on a low speed and also did the "kickdown" many times. He kept trying all stunts and I got scared most of the time because I was in the car with him.
Car TalkRe: Is Speed Necessary When Test Driving A Car by loba18(op): 5:55pm On Feb 06, 2020
adanny01:
Yes.

However, in most cases, it is unnecessary.

Negotiation should be done after physical inspection, such that if anything goes wrong during test drive, the buyer automatically owes the seller the negotiated amount even if not finalized.

No one should test drive a car he doesn't have a payment plan for the asking price or has not negotiated a suitable price. Most times a drive will either seal the deal or break the deal off.

A test drive will either get the buyer excited if the car drives good or discourage the buyer if say the transmission was bad and the seller didn't disclose the truth.
Very reasonable response! I concur

Limp mode keeps car permanently in the 4th gear or between the 1st and 2nd gear.

Unless it’s not a Nigerian used car

You’re definitely not ready to sell
There are reasonable buyers that will do things with moderation.
Car TalkIs Speed Necessary When Test Driving A Car by loba18(op):
Good day,

I sold my car yesterday and it was a very dramatic transaction.

The buyer drove the car recklessly, that is, speeding, in the name of test driving the car. I cautioned him several times and told him he can monitor the gear selection even at a low speed.

Well, he ran into a ditch and dented my car. The moment it happened, I started laughing. "Guy you don buy market" was what came out of my mouth.

Guy man no wan gree, he later priced the car very low so as to escape. I didn't take any of it and I gave him my terms which are;

1. Fix the car (not by panel beating the damaged parts, he must buy another tokunbo parts. Bumper with fogs light, right fender and right tyre.

2. Pay for the car, I gave him the market value of the car.

We invited the police, he eventually bought the car to cut the story.

Now back to the title of my thread, do we really need to speed or drive recklessly when test driving a car we want to buy??

For any car I may have to sell next, (no e raise e) no revving like you are trying to cough out something from the exhaust and no test driving above 1km and 50 to 70km/h. If you no gree, move abeg!!!
