Oh yeah, u can try out TurboSIM. Not sure if it "unlocks" 2.2.1 but @ this point, u r short of options. |
Dude, even with the millions of warnings out there, you should have known you shouldn't update using the 2.2.1 IPSW from Apple. There is currently no unlock for 02.30. Your best bet right now is to check the boot-loader version. If it is 5.8 then you are in luck, if not (as in it is 5.9) then you are out of luck. For instructions on how to check the boot-loader version, use Google. |
@Ex Inferis, My point here is, as long as the problem is S/W (even though we call the O/S the firmware, the firmware should actually refer to the BL and BB), it can be EASILY resolved. With the firmware issues, of course you require a little more expertise (I'm sure there are tools you can get to resolve this if you speak with members of the DEV team, Elite DEV or even Geohot). |
Check the base-band version first. If it's 02.30 and not 02.28, then u r out of luck. Well, if your boot-loader is 5.8, you are in luck, but I doubt it is. For more info, use google. Or if you are afraid of "frying" your iPhone and you are in Lagos, send an email to javaman21133@yahoo.com. No, I am not an expert engineer, but I can help you. |
He must have put it in a frying-pan and put it on fire to fry it. I have never seen an iPhone that cannot be fixed as long as it's a S/W problem. |
I am the only one who has actually tried the 2.2.1 using a custom firmware then? |
Ex Inferis, Refer to this quote in my first post on the subject: "If u r having WI-FI problems and don't want to spend too much on using GPRS/EDGE/UMTS (which is my exact situation)" Yes, my iPhone WI-FI functionality has completely kaput. |
Did you google it? Simply install MobileInstallation patch from Cydia. |
Ex Inferis, We are not talking about Tethering. What we have in mind is the reverse (browse on your iPhone using your PC connection). |
No, I meant the latter (normal SSH data transfer through USB). The reference to Cyder was for the installation of OpenSSH (which of course has a bunch of dependencies you need to figure out, the main one being OpenSSL), but then I remembered that Cyder seems to require OpenSSH itself! Sharing your PC's internet connection through the USB cable: I had tried to make that work, but the problem is, it won't work if the 3G browsing is never established (which was the case for me). I am sure what I had would have worked otherwise. Check out this manual: http://alk2blog..com/2008/08/ssh-to-get-your-iphone-online-via-usb.html |
BTW, if u r having WI-FI problems and don't want to spend too much on using GPRS/EDGE/UMTS (which is my exact situation), you can actually SSH through your USB cable. Find and download iPhone Tunnel Suite. Problem is, you need to have OpenSSH installed. I had to create a custom firmware using PwnageTool to make this happen. Of course you can also go the way of Cyder, but I believe it works in a similar manner to this solution, so you may need OpenSSH even with Cyder. |
[Installous] I knew that was a hoax, I didn't even bother myself about it. [Vista] I have been using Vista for ages for these things. Yes, you need .NET 3.5 framework for many (if not all) of these Windows apps. It's been like that for ages, as you always required .NET framework, only that they decided to upgrade to the higher version (3.5). |
I think somebody should start a thread and organize all the "iPhone Killers" into one group so we can track them. One that I found quite interesting is the OpenMoko. It was launched way before the G1/Android yet there has never been any mention of it on the this sub-forum. I think it was killed by the fact that it was released pretty close to the iPhone release (July 2007). http://www.openmoko.com/ It also runs on Linux. |
Those with 5.8 Boot Loader on their 3G can now downgrade their Base-band from 02.30 to 02.28 after upgrading to Firmware 2.2.1. Of course not many people have 5.8 BL. I have 5.9. You can check your BL using the BBUpdaterExtreme. For more instructions use Google. In any case, I have been able to upgrade to 2.2.1 using a custom 2.2.1 Firmware which of course didn't upgrade my BB to 02.30. Also watch out for Linux on iPhone. http://www.iphonelinux.org/index.php/Main_Page I want nothing more than to be able to run Ubuntu on my phone. Interesting thing is, Open-iBoot will support multi-boot. |
lol. |
Why do u guys think the problem has anything to do with the O/S? |
Some sources that work for Cyder: http://apt.bigboss.us.com/repofiles/cydia/dists/stable/main/binary-iphoneos-arm/Packages http://apt.modmyi.com/dists/stable/main/binary-iphoneos-arm/Packages http://apt.saurik.com/dists/tangelo/main/binary-iphoneos-arm/Packages http://cydia.iClarified.com/Packages http://ispaziorepo.com/cydia/apt/Packages http://repo.sleepers.net/cydia/Packages |
iBluetooth has been out since March! People report problems receiving files, but sending files works just fine. http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/01/ibluetooth-team-achieves-obex-file-transfer.ars Cheapest way to get it is from Xsellize (cracked), otherwise you have to pay for the full version. For more info, http://xsellize.com/showthread.php?t=29231&page=9 |
u will/should know once u see the UI. |
Also you can use any of the following J2EE based open-source CRM apps: http://sourceforge.net/projects/centraview http://www.compiere.com/ http://www.hipergate.org/ , then simply use the Portal Bridge. |
What are these ppl talking about? Anyway, poster there are ways u can make certain frameworks work with portlets. these include PHP applications. so the idea I have is to use the Portal Bridge to make SugarCRM work with LifeRay. http://portals.apache.org/bridges/multiproject/portals-bridges-php/index.html |
it should go without saying that if an application is well designed from the ground up, extending (adding extra use-cases) is a breeze. extensibility is a must. |
@dammytosh I suppose the application's function is (at the risk of begging the question) simply to "reserve" or book computers which supposedly exist in a resource pool (think library, computer center or cyber-cafe). given that idea, i can imagine any average programmer has an idea of the use-cases such an application should implement (hence i can understand ur man already providing a price info since he may as a matter of fact have already developed the software). |
txpete, i'm about 2 send u an email, |
lol. anything beyond the SDK from apple is potentially unsafe (unofficial). all can potentially cause a brick (even the process of jail-breaking). for the kind of work the thread starter wants 2 do, it's best he sticks with official APIs (and not something like the tool-chain or the like). |
Since the iPhone OS is a stripped down version of OSX which is based on BSD - UNIX (Free-BSD and NetBSD), it is not impossible to have hacks for Java and .NET (by way of Mono). But these are hacks as I mentioned, and I will not recommend them especially to someone as the author of this thread (being a newbie), as you will likely brick your iPhone. |
the iphone is yet 2 have a jvm => no java. |
he is clearly not logged in with admin rights otherwise he wouldn't get that error. most likely the person he got the computer from deleted the admin profile in trying to remove all personal details, or the admin profile is hidden. |
well, if it's not a stolen computer, why can't u ask for the admin password? |
