I didn't expect this thread to get as much attention as it did. @poster: If u are a programmer, then get busy with something meaningful and not threads like this. Naija is developing and we need creativity not noise, if u r not a programmer, then go find the best in your own field and leave programmers alone. Biko! |
I've read long ago that a group broke recaptcha and aside from that, i get a lot of bot posts from some of my forms protected by recaptcha. I still use it because it is intended to reduce and not eliminate bot posts. recaptcha serves me better than my own captcha that gives issues on servers without gd library installed. Recaptcha uses two words to protect but in reality, you only need one to get access. you can read up on it. |

@dhtml I like you because of the things you attempt. I remember when you coded a c++ thingy for xampp to simulate mail sending for php mail function. I wish i had much more time, i have a lot of things i'd like to perfect and then open-source before i quit programming soon but i have my hands dipped into so many projects already. Keep it up dhtml, we need gurus like you in Nigeria. You've been an inspiration to so many. |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8 The new interface is primarily designed for 16:9 screen resolution, with 1366×768 and larger screens able to display two Windows 8 applications using "Snap". 1024×768 screens can display one Windows 8 application in full-screen, and 1024×600 screens can only use the traditional Windows desktop "Most" available windows based tablets today(and mine) have 1024×600 maximum display resolutions. They will not display the finger friendly windows 8 interface which would have been its primary appeal to the tablet world. I am not anti-windows. I am just pro-linux. Windows is dominant but you still cant deny the vulnerabilities, issues and costs that come with it. To the man who uses pirated software, windows is cheap. To those who pay for every release of every software per pc (or multiple licenses), na money be dat. I am not saying that windows is bad or not functional, i have only highlighted some of its endless problems as a reason why i use linux as a worthy alternative. When you say soon, microsoft has scheduled the first editions of windows 8 to be released in 2012(see http://blogs.computerworld.com/18341/microsoft_windows_8_release_date_2012_demo_next_week) Windows 7 is very unpleasant when used on tablet pcs. If you disagree, try buying a windows 7 on capacitive screen tablet and see for yourself. Indeed, windows 7 is not designed with tablets in mind. It was designed for older breed of PCs (desktop and laptop). |
Our verification is simple. If you pay with a name other than your registered username or full name, then you must provide a form of nationally accepted I.D or wait 3 days before getting acknowledged. It does not entirely solve the problem, but it reduces it because most people will call under 24 or 48 hrs after payment so if you scam someone, the person had better report to us under 72hrs. There are situations where we have delayed acknowledgement for up to 5 days because the depositor paid in a Nigerian name other than his/her own. Someone once paid in a third party cheque and came to our office in person for part refund that he didnt intend to pay that much. We dragged the issue for almost 10 working days and made copies of his driver's license before issuing the refund. We also issued a crossed cheque. |
You have listed some very expensive routes which may not be affordable if you are going into bulk sms business(clic***el, No*oh). Some of the routes you listed also have potentials to dissapoint (inf***p). The really reliable gateways are not on your list. I can't give you that information for business reasons but you can search more in australia and spain. There are some premium gateways that are truly reliable and affordable there. You can use my bulk sms gateway: www.estoresms.com We have a couple of dedicated technical staff and some customer care staff ready to assist you via our live chat and 24hr telephone support. We are providers to over 200 sms sites and some banks. www.estoresms.com You can get sms as low as 80kobo. |
@all4naija While linux may not solve a lot of things that have become a standard in windows, there's a price to pay for using windows. It all depends on what you use it for. I have a lot of document that needs to be secure even when any of my laptops are stolen. I have to be effectively protected against spywares and viruses at minimum or no costs and minimum or no updates. I have a lot of needs that are simply too costly or impossible to implement in windows. I use Linux. *Point of correction* Windows 8 is not coming anytime soon (except of course 1 year is "soon" to you) and moreover, windows 8 does not support most screen resolutions you have on low cost consumer laptops and tablets available today. Also, windows 8 is not coming free! not even cheap! and it comes with so many bugs! and so much incompatibility with some device drivers! and different versions with several prices! some sites you visit on it may harm your computer! It may hog your system resources like vista! you may have to run some programs in compatibility mode! and so on, |
Well, thank God i created my own wrappers with foresight. Even if they remove mysql and impose postgre, most OOP apps may just need a little tweak, I use $myobject->dbquery() instead of mysql_query(). Won't have much effect on me, just gotta make modifications to my db object. But this is gonna bring a whole lot of trouble with lot of solutions already posted on forums and blogs. |
;d |
in backtracking, there's a quick test or partial test to check if the path can lead to an acceptable solution but in brute forcing, all tests are treated as complete not incremental. They are not the same. brute forcing will take so much longer where backtracking will work but i don't believe backtracking will work in cases that require a brute force approach (situations where there's no pre-determinable path to the solution). |
@dhtml: I knew something must have gone wrong but u didn't communicate. U were too skilled to just ignore d project and i had spoken so much of you to the programmer i was mentoring there b4 u came. I just wished i could defend u afterwards but u didn't communicate with me so i looked like a rookie. Anyway, its gone now. Sorry i brought it up. |
@EquityPal & dhtml: Imagine this: Yahoo guy scams someone using your company name and gets a cheque which he deposits into your company account listed on ur site. He calls your company that he paid for facebook advert or adwords or SMS or some intangible online service and gives the cheque drawer's name as depositor. You verify and you give him the service. That's serious trouble for you man. The authorities are gonna come after you, check ur records and find the drawer's name, check your account and find the payment. Thats how it can happen. It happened to me once but thank God the issue was resolved amicably. |
Send me a brief or contact me on www.lekeojikutu.com if you still need investors. |
Its possible. contact www.estoresms.com and tell them you want "Numbers by location". |
Its more like generating 1000 websites than building 1000 websites. All u pessimists, thank God none of u was around the wright brothers or Edison. U can mock or scorn or try ur best to discourage the guy all u want. If he fails or he succeeds, at least he did something he believes in with what he knows. |
@instinctg & worldbest I dont agree that the average web app development contract is cheap or that jobs are scarce. It depends on the programmer. I started from nairaland looking out for every opportunity to get a contract here, that was when jobs were scarce and clients didn't pay much. I looked up to dhtml, yawa and dual (yes, they started php way b4 me) to answer my questions here when i get stuck. But for every single job i get, i created a standard, a reason for clients to come back. I once called dhtml to handle a shopping cart for my client and he gave a non negotiable price of N500kMy heart skipped. Even though the client agreed to pay him, dhtml no get time and he didn't even do the job(Reason y i don't call him 4 jobs again). *Edit: DHTML No collect money from the guy anyway but me loose my share. That single incident with dhtml made me change my coding and pricing. Right now, the minimum price that can make me touch my mouse is 100k(for websites) and i have commercial web applications(EDBMS) that have been sold and is still being sold in seven digits. I am a programmer, and i can tell you there's no easier way to make your first 1 million naira than in programming (if you rank among the best). |
Guy, there's no point re-inventing the wheel if u know the principles that make it work and you have the design (provided its not patented or copyrighted). I can code almost anything i have ever copied but where's the time? Why re-invent CodeIgniter because of 150k or re-invent jquery because of 100k? There's absolutely no problem with copy and paste if it works for you. Some people copy and paste to save time, after-all, Ubuntu, Suse or Fedora did not invent Linux and Seun did not program nairaland from scratch (SMF). I'm a big-time fan of google. I see if anyone has done it b4 me and i pick up from there. |
This guy is a thinker! From my experience, your idea should work but the question is "for how long?". Your bounce rate will be too high and this may impact your ranking. I am always a fan of "quality over quantity" but an analysis of what you are trying to do shows that quantity will take you there faster than quality. You should use namecheap.com for your domain. Namecheap supports GTB Mastercard and registration is instant! Remember to use their coupon. @yamz It is evident that you dont understand the nature of his project. |
Yoruba proverb: The fowl has landed on a rope. The fowl is unstable and so it the rope. Adiye ba lokun, ara oro okun, ara oro adiye. No one is safe now, the government, the people or the sect. |
