Have you seen the Capitol in Washigton? Should it be removed because it looks like a mosque too?

The numerals we use ; 1,2,3, are called Arabic numerals, should we change the name too?

I guess its time to be open-minded about things. Dont sweat the small stuff!

PoliticsRe: Arabic Inscriptions On Naira by loma(m): 3:17pm On Apr 18, 2006
What you need to understand is that even before the british came into Nigeria, Arabic was the lingua franca in the North, hence it was only natural for it to be included on the Naira along with English.
If English which is the language of Christainity( brought to us by the white man) is on it, I don't see any problem with Arabic.

Man dies retrieving pair of shoes
A man has died after jumping into docks in East Yorkshire to retrieve his girlfriend's shoes.
The 21-year-old leapt into the water at Goole in the early hours of Sunday after the couple had been drinking on a night out.

The woman alerted police and a sea and air search was launched.

The man's body was later recovered by police divers. The Humber coastguard said his death highlighted the dangers of swimming after drinking alcohol.

Coastguard watch officer Mike Puplett said: "This is a very sad outcome, and once again it appears that alcohol has played a part in this young man's demise.

"The message is very clear: alcohol and swimming or going into the water is a lethal combination."
Christianity EtcRe: Should A Christian Celebrate Easter? by loma(m): 6:12am On Apr 16, 2006
Do we always have to do something as christains because thats the way it has always been done, even if its not right?
Do we have to do something so as not to fall out of favor with the world?
I believe, the Messiah, Jesus Christ didnt adopt this attitude when he was among the Jews, and just stick to what was been done because it was the norm. He said ,  Seek ye the truth,
I believe we should be able to question our beliefs!  I am dismayed at the lack of intellectual robustness that we sometimes display.
Read through the article and convince me why i should still celebrate Easter again!

CrimeUs Tops Scammers List, Nigeria Is A Distant Second by loma(op): 10:44pm On Apr 12, 2006
US tops scammers list, Nigeria is a distant second

The buzzword among foreigners, even those who have never been to Nigeria, is that the country is the world's biggest haven for scammers. But is it? Are there more scammers in Nigeria than there are in other countries? In the quirky court of global opinion, the answer that many non-Nigerians (and a few Nigerians) would give to both questions is a resounding yes. However, some Nigerians have long complained that this ill-repute has never been supported by facts. An annual report on the cost and character of Internet crimes in the United States of America released last week says US citizens lost about $182 million to Internet fraudsters last year. The US Internet Crime Complaint Centre annual report for 2005 also says over 70 per cent of the perpetrators of the crimes that resulted in this loss are located in the United States. "The total dollar loss from all referred cases of fraud was $183.12 million with a median dollar loss of $424.00 per complaint. This is up from $68 million in total reported losses in 2004. During 2005, Internet auction fraud was by far the most reported offence, comprising 62.7 per cent of referred fraud complaints. This represents an 11.9 per cent decrease from the 2004 levels of auction fraud reported to IC3," the report says.

The report, which can be found on www.ic3.gov or www.ifccfbi.gov, is the fifth of its kind and was compiled from complaints received by the centre between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005. It is estimated that the loss could even be higher than the one reported as experts at the centre have said that only one out of seven Internet crime incident ever gets reported to the authorities. In 2005, the IC3 received 231,493 complaints, an 11.6 per cent increase over 2004 when 207,449 complaints were received.

While experts say Nigerians are often behind Internet e-mail scams, they also agree that most types of Internet crimes (internet auction scam, non-delivery, credit and debit card fraud, check fraud and child pornography) are carried out by non-Nigerians.

The facts and figures in this report also lend credence to this. In all the five reports released by the IC3 so far, the US has consistently taken top position as the nation with the highest number of scammers. "Among perpetrators, nearly 75.4 per cent were male and half resided in one of the following states: California, New York, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The majority of reported perpetrators were from the United States. However, a significant number of perpetrators were also located in Nigeria, United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and China," the report says. "Recent high activity scams seen by IC3 include Super Bowl Tickets scams, phishing attempts associated with spoofed sites, re-shipping, eBay account takeovers, natural disaster fraud, and international lottery scams," the report says.

Internet auction fraud, a crime whose perpetrators are mostly male and based in the US, tops the list of these Internet crimes. "Internet auction fraud was by far the most reported offense, comprising 62.7 per cent of referred complaints. Non-delivered merchandise and/or payment accounted for 15.7 per cent of complaints. Credit/debit card fraud made up 6.8 per cent of complaints. Cheque fraud, investment fraud, computer fraud, and confidence fraud round out the top seven categories of complaints referred to law enforcement during the year," the report says.

The report says the anonymity, which the Internet affords perpetrators, is a huge factor in their high success rate. It identified electronic mail (e-mail) and web pages as the two primary mechanisms by which the fraudulent contact took place. Of all complaints received, 73.2 per cent of complainants reported that they had e-mail contact with the perpetrator and 16.5 per cent had contact through a web page.

IC3 was set up five years ago and is jointly run by the US Federal Bureau of Investigations and the National White Collar Crime Centre.

CareerRe: Are Nigerian 'Graduates' Really Graduates? by loma(m): 4:43pm On Oct 06, 2005
Hi guys,
Why dont you try and be sincere for once. I graduated from OAU, ile-Ife witha First class in Computer Engineering, so you know what that means.I am now in the US on a scholarship. But on getting here, I have discovered that I wasted my years in the University learning the wrong things. All what I learnt isnt up to what 2nd-yar under graduates here know. Our lecturers back home are so underbaked that they could hardly impart anything to us,and the whole system needs to be revamped.
However I am doing extremely well, whats the secret? Endurance, and not wanting to lose face. Ife has made me tough, so now I make use of all the facilities I never had in Ife,good books, computers, the internet, and so i do very well, and my foriegn classmates get the impression our schools are very good back home. I can assure you this is the situation with a lot of other people, whatever they know, they learnt themselves, not in the universities back home. By the way, I also worked for some years in Nigeria in top companies, yet I got here to discover I really wasnt a computer engineer!

This is my first real internet access since the
disaster struck...

I can't thank you enough for your concern and care.
It's been all so overwhelming. My wife and I are alive
and, after passing through five horrendous "evacuation
centers", have been allocated to the Red Cross
shelter in Birmingham, Alabama.
The nightmare of the past seven days is simply
unimaginable. We very narrowly escaped drowning in our
own house. Pursued by an 8-foot high toxic flood
water (15 feet in the street outside our door), we
were forced up a stuffy, airless attic, where we were
holed up for 26 hours, with no food, no water, no
prospect of any rescue. We were only saved by the
fortuitous intervention of a neighbour who heard our
shout for help when he came round with his rescue boat
to pick up something from his own house. With life
vests provided by him, we managed to swim out of our
house, leaving everything we had behind. Right now,
all our clothes, books, academic and professional
credentials, trave documents, computers,, manuscripts,
etc etc are submerged in the dirty waters of the New
Orleans flood. Hell has no other name...

We deeply appreciate your concern. Kindly pass on our
gratitude to all on your listserve.

Yours in the Eye of the Storm

Niyi Osundare
