FutureDon:

Don't get worried about it, they didn't return my statement of account also.

The British Embassy have no right to retain your bank statement if it was an original document. They only do it to build up a fraud database of bank statements from different Nigerian banks to catch those Agents who provide bank statements for clients ( those one's without COT deductions).

emmy4eve: thanks so much future don.

our officials aren't doing noting. they only tried to extort you once recognized as a first time traveler.

Errors corrected cry and i have booked a new flight to london for 21st of january.

kudos to you all in d house.

cheers

It's quite possible for the MMA officials to overlook your right of entry to UK as you were actually transiting through Doha . However, the onus was on you to check that you travel at the right date. If Qatar Airways had flown you to UK, the UKBA would have charged them £2,500 for carrying an 'undocumented passenger' and returned you to Nigeria under the Chicago Convention.
Business / Re: Thinking Of Starting A Cooperative For Nigerians In The UK by LondonCool(m): 5:24pm On Jul 27, 2013
ell77: Not sure if this should be here, so please redirect if it is in the wrong place.

It is likely many of you if not all of you have heard of the term "cooperative". But I bet most of you have never really researched into what a cooperative does and yet you have preconceived ideas on what happens in a cooperative. This article is the first article aimed at empowering you with the knowledge to not only understand what a cooperative is, but to participate and benefit from one.

A cooperative is a businesses owned and run by its members for its members. Members often have something in common like heritage, interests, work, geographic location and more.

Member all have equal voting rights and when profits are made this is shared amongst members or reinvested according to the decision of members. Often cooperatives may work together to improve the lives of all members in a given community. Jamaican and Nigerian cooperatives have often been known to put aside each month a given amount to a central fund and each month the group gives this to one of the members (or something to this effect) but in actual fact operating models and income streams and income release can be defined in any way and decided by the group (sometimes this changes as business models are often flexible).

Co-operatives are businesses, not charities, so the aim is to profit financially, socially or otherwise (i.e. obtaining scarce products/services). By working together, members do better in their individual monetary investments. savings and businesses than they would have separately.

Cooperatives can invest locally and internationally promoting growth in areas underlooked by various organisations.

So here is my proposal. I am thinking of starting a cooperative:

- It would have a legal structure.

- It would have a steering group that ensures the interests of all members are followed (lets say the steering group/committee sits for 3 years before re-election, for very first term would sit for 5 years to raise funds and profile).

- It would invest in areas/business members have knowledge of or experience or a need for i.e.

Any idea that comes up through cooperative brainstorming
Entertainment- Books/Movies/TV Shows
Business Start Up Seminars/Training/ Ancillary Services (i.e. Websites, Accounting, Marketing, Legal etc)
Recruitment Firms and Career/Employment Advice
Childcare/Daycare Services and Babycare Products
Food and Drink (Catering, Restaurants, Consumer products, Trade/Distribution)
Education (Schools/Tuition Classes)
Family/Relationships
Fashion, Hair and Beauty
Homes and Gardens (Real estate development and related services i.e. plumbing, electricians etc)
Living Overseas (Relocation to Nigeria company specialising in cargo, accommodation, schools, healthcare, settling in etc)
Politics (in UK and Nigeria)
Social Events (Celebrations, Festivals, Parties, Wedding Planners)
Travel/Holidays (Vehicle Shipment to Nigeria, Investing in Tourism in Nigeria, Travel Agency etc)

- It would create profit financially, it would offer employment opportunities, it would offer experience and exposure and have a community building outlook.

- It would be for Nigerian families in the UK (at first or permanently)

- There would be monthly payments of £50, a member can withdraw money by leaving subject to notice period in the constitution. So if for example there were 20 members, £12k would be generated in the first year from contributions. Members can invest more than a minimum with a view to sharing more of the profit based on their financial investment, members can also share more in profit through trading their time i.e. acting as accountant or building brick walls for a development totaling 10 hours.

If you are interested in setting up this cooperative with me and have suggestions or strong opinions, please contact me at ellaoku@gmail.com

Thanks

Mrs Ella Inedia

lakayanababy: Vicjustice, Londoncool, Justwise

I advised the applicant ( an undergraduate student from a nigerian university) to say 'no savings' as there isn't much in the account anyway and we do not want that to be a focus for the ECO.

They are on holiday until September ending so he wants to visit for 3 weeks.

His sibling who is inviting him to the UK for a Family Visit is fully sponsoring his trip and visit. Relevant documents (Invitation letter, Financial support letter, Sponsorship Declaration, British passport bio-data, birth certificate, mortgage details, Employment details, Tax Clearance, Payslips, Bank Statements, Utility Bills and Pictures with both of them) from the sponsor.

Thanks
The applicant has his Student status letter, Admission Letter, Tuition fees and dues so far, Accommodation fees so far, Examination records so far; Holiday Itinerary, Email Conversations, Flight Booking Confirmation. Birth Certificate too

What are the chances here? Him saying no savings.. smiley smiley

This looks like a very well packaged application. The declaration of no savings shouldn't be an issue insofar as the sibling is going to be responsible for the accommodation and maintenance. As a genuine student the ECO wouldn't expect him to show proof of funds, when the sponsor can show proof.

Please you know exactly what you are talking about. Please for God sake..inbox me your phone number so that i can discuss some personal issues with you relating to my refusal and documents.. or release your chat id to me so that i can come online to have a chat with you

Olumide, sorry I dont do online chats or discuss personal issues outside this forum. The advice given is enough for you to plan your next application. The ECO's in Lagos and Abuja come here to read this thread everyday so take off your email and I hope it is not the same one on your visa application or they will refuse you again

Pls, Find solution to my problem regard to UK. when i first carried a tourist visa, they refused me based on the ground that i didnt include my tax documents and immediately after following month i got a tax clearance card from federal inland revenue original. I carried another Visa Application back following 2 month of my refusal because i was going on a tour on the ground that missionary school where am working will sponsor my travelling due to the fact that am the best teacher of the year which i have substatial amount of money in my bank account. i was refused on the ground that my hotel is far away from my tourist attraction centers that can take me 5 hours within london. and my present financial status ve to be put into consideration. I need your assistance on this. have change my job now as an accountant. am new where am working now. can i still carry the visa application based on my new status at work now or i should use the old document and record as a teacher. pls guys help me. should i carry it again on tourist or invitation when have told Uk embassy that i dont have families and relative in UK to visit.....

It's quite clear that you've been using 'tout' Agents to submit your UK visa applications. I'm concerned about you (lol). What is your motive for traveling to UK? Getting a UK visa is about credibility and about financial standing. Being an Accountant doesn't qualify you for a visa; although what you earn as an Accountant may increase your credibility with the ECO. You already have a visa refusal on your personal record so your next application will need to be well prepared. Most likely you'll still want to go as a Tourist. You need to build up your cash flow in your bank account, show proof of employment, show a letter indicating you have been given annual leave, prove that you have ties in Nigeria to indicate that you'll return, show legit Tax certificates, bank statements with legit COT calculations in the debit column and show that your economic circumstances is commensurate with the financial outlay for the trip to the UK. If you are going to spend around £900 on your ticket and £700 (£50x 14 days) on your hotel, £100 for feeding+ transportation, £150 for shopping (I'm using conservative estimates-thats around N462,500) how much do you earn per month? Even if you earn N500, 000 a month why would you want to spend N462,500 just to travel for 1 or 2 weeks? That's how the ECO thinks when checking your application. Hopefully the £3,000 (visit visa) bond about to be imposed on Nigerian visitors(i'm not refering to you) will sift out the wheat from the chaff. Bottomline: Apply with using your new job title but you'll still need to show the ECO that you are genuine visitor(and stop sending your visa application forms to Agents-i'm sure they are the one's that booked your Hotel that was 5 hours from London for you).

thanks. Is that all i require?

please kindly enlighten me on all thats required.

i ll be transiting through london

Where are you transiting to? You just need to make an application at the High Commission like any other application and provide proof of your journey. You need to also give some information about yourself to enable the ECO to be sure that you don't use the Transit visa as a means of staying in the UK.

kitlady02: @justwise,

what are the requirements for transit visa and how long does it take to get the visa?

Is it something one can do on their own, is an agent necessary?

NB; I WILL BE CHANGING AIRPORT.

Avoid using Agents for simple things you can do yourself. To get a transit visa you need to show proof of your trip itinerary enroute UK (landside) to your destination to the ECO .

dannie007: Hi House, i am danny by name, I need advice from the house,my friend emeka will be doing his masters graduation ceremoney in the UK this December and he called me yesterday that he will want me to be present with his family, I am a 500 level student here in Nigeria and I have once been denayed a Visa last year in Respect to me not given enough prove about my Sponsor relationship. So I'm worried about it because he called me letting me know that he his willing to do anything for me to be there and his fiancy Sarah. So my question now is what and what will be required from me and Emeka! I have pictures pictures of me and emeka back in Secondary skool and also while he was travelling to UK @ the airport. Please I awaits ur suggestion and advice thanks.

Since you've already been refused a visa before, once your application is processed it would be flagged up. You have 2 hurdles to scale, the ECO in Lagos and the IO in UK, both can refuse you entry.

The ECO would want to know why it is necessary for you to attend the Graduation ceremony.
In view of your economic circumstances he would also make a judgement of why you or your friend Mekus would want to spend X amount just to visit UK.
Assuming you get the visa, the IO on arrival will need to be 'satisfied ' that you are visiting UK as a 'genuine visitor'. Your profile doesn't fit one. The ECO would need to be convinced that you'll be returning to Nigeria ( especially as you are not married , I presume).

Finally, the ECO should query that you were previously refused a visa because you couldn't prove your UK sponsor was related to you and this time you now want to visit the UK to visit a friend (a Student , I presume). So you've now abandoned visiting your 'Uncle'? The mindset of the ECO will tell him that you'll still want to visit your 'Uncle' and that your friends Graduation ceremony is a decoy .

I have not even talked about your financial outlay for the trip ( not being commensurate with your economic circumstances). That's the sentence they'll copy and paste on your refusal letter. Bottom line : You need to have a credible reason for visiting UK, you need to have a credible sponsor in the UK, you need to show that you have the financial outlay for the trip. The previous refusal has already dented your credibility so you need to do your homework well.

AceMiss: Hello Justwise and Vicjustice,i have a question to ask. i have visited the UK twice and on both applications i used hotel bookings and reservation even though i ended up staying with family. i recalled that on both applications i stated that i didnt have any family or friends in the uk hence the use of hotel bookings. But on my last visit(i went thru city airport) i was asked if i'll be staying with family and i mistakenly said yes and i noticed that the officer wrote it down. My 2 years visa is expiring this july and i intend to re-apply but do i change my story and state that i have re-connected/discovered family or friends in my application now or stick to my "no family and friends in the UK"?
Please advice me on what to do. Thanks

The details the IO wrote on your arrival only remain on your landing card (which is filed away) and is not linked to your visa application form(s). Maintain your pattern of booking your hotel but also mention that you'll be visiting friends/ family friends. Your visa is always linked to the purpose of your trip, and you can be refused entry on arrival for ' a change of purpose' in your reasons for visiting UK. You could also be refused entry on arrival( despite your visa) for 'failure to disclose material' information.

worry 359: Saying that you have "just discovered" relatives but that you need to stay in a hotel is quite acceptable in UK.
It might be a good idea to have accomodation somewhere near to your relations if you are claiming that your reason for visit is to see them.
Know where they live and how to get there!

That is not a plausible statement to state on your visa application form. The ECO would forensically start to pick up loopholes in your application with that kind of statement. Don't forget that ECO's have monthly refusal quota's / targets to achieve, don't make your visa application an easy prey.
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by LondonCool(m): 7:40pm On Jul 25, 2013
AceMiss: @vicjustice,if I wirte that I discovered relatives in my previous visit, will I still be able to use hotel reservation(cos its easier for me and more convenient). Hope they will not expect me to resort to invitation letters etc because I have relatives abroad.

@AceMiss,

It's either you travel as a Tourist on a visit visa and provide details of your hotel and travel itinerary or you are traveling as a Family visitor to visit relatives. They would need to be close relatives (no Nigerian Un-cle) and you would need a letter of invitation and copy of their passport for this.

Where is the location of the car hire business?
What is your expected monthly rate of returns?
How much of your own personal money will you be investing into your business idea?
Why do I need to wait for 3 years to get a N1.5m profit? That means that each of the 6 cars will be making a return of N7,000 a month or a daily returns of N233 per day for each car. What's it in for you?
