Politics › Re: Sowore Rejects Apostle Suleman’s Bail Offer by lonelydora: 6:50am On Nov 05, 2019 |
Enzorazor: Activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore who has been detained by the federal government on account of his bouched Revolution Now protest, has rejected the offer made by President of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, to stand as surety.
Recall that ngg.ng reported earlier that the clergyman has said that he was considering standing as surety for Sowore even though Sowore had hurt him in the past. Read more here.
The legal team of Sowore, speaking through his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, told newsmen that Suleman’s offer would not be considered because he was not eligible to stand surety for the detained activist as the court was clear that the surety must be resident in Abuja.
Effiong said Suleman’s offer cannot be considered nor accepted, adding that Suleman and Sowore had once had a public altercation, as a result, there is conflict of interest.
“So, we are turning it down and we are not even considering it. The way the Federal Government politicised the matter, made it difficult for the bail conditions to be met. But we are in the process of perfecting the bail“
Sowore had in a report published through his platform, accused Suleman of engaging in extra-marital affairs with a woman known as Stephanie Otobo.
The activist, who is the Convener of #RevolutionNow, was arrested by the Department of State Services on August 2, 2019, for allegedly trying to overthrow the President Muhammadu Buhari government.
The activist, who was the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has remained in the custody of the DSS ever since.

Crime › Re: Orhena Bartholomew Sent To Jail For refusal To Return Money Sent To Him In Error by lonelydora: 6:42am On Nov 05, 2019 |
Stanchem029: The Makurdi Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, secured the conviction of a man, Orhena Bartholomew for refusing to return N99,000 transferred to him in error.
Mr Bartholomew was sentenced by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court, Makurdi, Benue State.
The EFCC said trouble started for Mr Bartholomew, a tailor, when the Makurdi Zonal Office of the EFCC received a petition from a complainant, who operates Firstmonie Cash Point alleging that Mr Bartholomew came to him to transfer N1,000 only to his friend in Lagos, but that he, the operator, mistakenly transferred N100,000.
After Mr Bartholomew had left, the complainant said he contacted him to refund him his N99,000 balance, but that he claimed he was already on his way to Lagos and would not return.
The friend in Lagos, however, saw the money and sent the entire N99,000 back to Mr Bartholomew’s account. However, instead of Mr Bartholomew sending it to the agent, he converted it to his personal use and bought a Honda cub motorcycle with it.
The Commission arrested and arraigned him in court.
One of the charges against him reads: “That you, Orhena Sesugh Bartholomewon on or about 15th of October, 2019 in Makurdi, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, without lawful authority engaged in acquisition of a super cub Honda motorcycle knowing that the said motorcycle was proceed of criminal activity and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 18(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 and punishable under Section 18(2) of the same Act.”
He pleaded guilty to the charge. Following his plea, prosecution counsel, G. G. Chai-Yakua urged the court to accept a plea bargain agreement earlier reached with the defendant and convict him accordingly.
Justice Olajuwon convicted him and sentenced him to two years imprisonment with option of N50,000 fine.
The N99,999.00 which the defendant had been made to cough out in the course of the investigation was paid to the complainant as restitution. He also forfeited his Honda cub motorcycle to the federal government.
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/north-central/361012-man-jailed-for-refusing-to-return-n99000-transferred-in-error.html Bartholomew has not learnt that nothing is free in this world. Why purchase a motorcycle with the money? |
Politics › Re: Army Probes Soldiers For Torturing Terrorist To Death by lonelydora: 6:38am On Nov 05, 2019 |
GistMore10: The Nigerian Army has said it is investigating and will sanction soldiers caught on a video torturing a suspected Boko Haram terrorist to death at a location believed to be in the North-East geopolitical zone.
A video showing some army personnel torturing and killing a suspected Boko Haram member has been circulating on the social media for some days now.
In the video, the soldiers after killing the victim buried the corpse in a shallow grave.
But the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, in a release on Monday, said Nigerians would be briefed on the outcome of the investigations.
He said, “The attention of the army has been drawn to a video reportedly showing some army personnel engaged in unprofessional torture and above all extrajudicial killing of a suspected Boko Haram terrorist likely in the North-East theatre of operation.
“The army strongly condemns the action of those involved (whoever they may be) in the misconduct, and that the dastardly act is completely unacceptable and unethical. The army’s training; rules of engagement and standing operating procedures guiding the conduct of all its operations are unambiguous about human rights abuses and extrajudicial actions including the rights of the arrested or captured terrorists and combatants.
“Troops in the various theatres of operations in Nigeria have been consistently warned to desist from rights’ infractions of any form no matter the amount of desperation, anger or provocation. The army does not license, encourage or condone indiscipline, unprofessional conduct especially extrajudicial execution of suspects or combatants.
“Where ever such is noticed or reported, once it is confirmed, appropriate decisive sanction or punishment is usually immediately meted out to the perpetrators and this case would never be an exception.
“Accordingly, on seeing the gory video, the army has commenced a thorough investigation to apprehend the culprits with a view to dealing with them in accordance with the extant military justice system. Members of the public will surely be informed of the results of the actions taken so far.”
