ivandragon:

you have made your points & I don't think they are really in dispute.

the issue is the deception & lies by the present administration about the issue. as far back as 2002, I told people that the FG needs to deregulate the downstream oil sector to encourage building of refineries as government cannot manage them.

of course, between then & now, nothing much has changed, but the issue is that PMB gave the impression that subsidy was a fraud & no subsidy was being paid on refined petroleum products & that is what people are angry about because as at 2012 when the economy was still on an upward swing, Nigeria would have been able to absorb the shock of the increase.

so, it's the deception of the matter that irks people not the economic sense/realities you have rightly put forward.

No leave him to continue spewing hot bukum simply because it was a PDP person who called the government out. All this closet APC members who'd vote for Buhari offline then come online and claim to be sanctimonious.

That's the major issue we have in Nigeria. No one wants to face the tough questions, everyone just wants to play propaganda with critical issues for personal gain.

OBJ sold the refineries. Yar'Adua revised the sale. GEJ wanted to sell them, but after the blow back from power privatization and subsidy removal, he decided to halt that plan. It was this same demonic government that claimed to be able to fix the refineries. Between 2007 and today (2018), 11 years, those refineries have consistently underperformed while at least $100m have been pumped into them annually to fix them.

This government has not plugged any hole of sleaze of their own making. Ghost workers eradication started under PDP, TSA and BVN implementation started under PDP, fertilizer scam eradication started under PDP.

Yet the ones successive PDP governments were unable to close from the refineries to ajaokuta steel to subsidy, they came in doubled down and also did their own looting; while pretending they're fighting corruption. They even thought up new ones like the 419 Nigeria Air, and the social security programs where they spend N500 billion annually with no regulatory oversight.

Yar'Adua admitted the election that brought him was not free and fair. GEJ admitted he didn't perform well in security. It is only this government that claims to be perfect, nothing is ever their fault. Someone must be blamed. Then they'd tell us Buhari has integrity. Is it Yar'Adua who spent 8 years as governor and had less than N1b in total assets that lacked integrity? Or GEJ who doesn't own a home abroad, whose kids went to school in Nigeria despite being deputy governor, then governor of oil-rich Bayelsa, then VP, then President that doesn't have integrity?

I find it insulting for anyone to compare PDP to APC. APC is miles worse because they steal, are ineffectual, then pretend they are without any faults (saints) and the people accusing them are to blame for their negative performance.

You think I am defending the government, when I aint.

I merely state the case for the removal of subsidy.

You don't want the subsidy removed...you want PDP in power. Good. I ain't into your PDP or APC things.

I repeat myself....subsidy must go, fuel cannot be at N40 per liter....and you really don';t want subsidy to go. That's all right.

At least, I am honest. I beleive subsidy must go...and Ive told you so.

Back to your PDP vs APC fight...and for your info....I despise corruption. So why call me corrupt when I say we have to remoive thje source?

P.S .....I am annoyed because you rightly critique the subsidy scam, but then go on about higher prices...that is what annoyed me. You cannot have an end to the subsidy scam sans ....and be demanding for low oil prices.

It seems you have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?

When we said we'd remove subsidy in 2012, did we tell Nigerians fuel price will reduce to 40 or increase to N100+? If you know the answer to that question, then read your reply again and question how much brain matter you have left.

PDP don't dwell on silly propaganda. It is the APC government that said they'd remove subsidy, save the over N1t subsidy prior expenses, and still half the price from N85 to N40. People including yourself supported them, when they made that promise devoid of reason. That was not done by a PDP government, so pay attention next time before quoting me to avoid embarrassing yourself.

I don't know why you Nigerians keep on allwing yourselves to be decieved.

Yes, the government claimed subsidy was removed....except that they were STILL setting the prices.

If subsidy had been removed, the price setting would not have been in the hands of government....it would have been in the hands of the independent marketers.....meaning fuel would have been costing N200 per liter and above by now.

The thing is, the reason why APC is still payign subsidy, and why Atiku will still pay subsidy, and keep on paying it...is because Nigerians don't want high fuel prices. They would rather keep the subsidy corruption monster alive in return for low oil prices.

Some of you people even want Bubu to make it N87 per liter again.

So stop screaming about corruption....because you Nigerians dont want the solution. You want cheap fuel....so keep on paying for cheap fuel.

APC and PDP are just lying to us...and we are buying it because we hate the bitter truth. We need to deregulate...and we should have done so since 1992!

SHATAP!

Did this incoming government not lead people to believe that removing subsidy would make fuel cheap? Buhari is on quote for saying he doesn't believe in subsidy. Momoh is on record for saying the APC government will make fuel N40. Or should I go source for the asinine calculations done on social media in 2015?

Even after they came in and increased the rate from N85 to N145, they told Nigerians subsidy was gone for good. They were even giving figures of how they were saving billions monthly. Now, they've realized subsidy is relevant.

Why deceive people and play f**lish politics if you know subsidy cannot be removed. Just so you could enter power then start sitting on an unconstitutional practice where only 3 people know the whereabouts of $3.8b.

Corrupt hypocrite.

modath, Keyamo et al will soon come and tell us that it is not subsidy, it is recovery. After claiming in 2015 that there is nothing like subsidy and cost of fuel should be N40.

That's how only two people (plus Mr Integrity) are sitting on top of 1.4 trillion naira annual expenditure with zero transparency. Money that isn't even inside the N8 trillion budget. If they are not stealing money, why are they covering it?

The problem with this insurgency are the disgusting elements in the Presidency and the North who play politics with the lives of innocent people.

The same sect of Boko Haram that executed dear Hauwa is the same sect that returned the Muslim Dapchi girls in broad day light and were cheered on by onlookers. Same sect that has decided to keep the only Christian girl as a life prisoner.

The same sect that Buhari, Buratai, and Lai claim to be technically defeated. Maybe Hauwa is also a soft target.

After claiming in 2015 to lead from the front and end the insurgency in 3 months; it's 3 years on and they're claiming there's nothing they can do. There's nothing they can do, but they could pay millions of euros as ransom for the Muslim Dapchi girls. And they want to return in 2019. #NeverAgain.

There must be sincerity of purpose before this insurgency can be eradicated.

That's how they defended Lawal.
Then they defended Maina.
Then they defended Adeosun.
Now they're defending Ganduje.

So they could seize Fayose's accounts while he was a sitting governor but are now waiting for a court decision before moving on Ganduje. But they can't respect the court decision to release Dasuki who has been given bail.

Atiku should start compiling names of people that'd sleep in Kuje from 2019 to 2027.

The hilarious thing is that defenders of Ms Adeosun forget that she was Commissioner of Finance for Ogun state from 2011 to 2015, a time of high oil prices and the consequent high FAAC allocations, and finished her tenure with Ogun state requiring a FG bailout package and owing workers' salaries. This is a state that had the good fortune of being next to the economic capital of Nigeria.

She went on an unsustainable borrowing spree in Ogun state which backfired. There is a lot of talk of her increasing IGR, but an increase in income matched by an excessive increase in expenditure (particularly debt obligations) is incompetence writ large.

They were too focused on smearing NOI that they forgot they brought a hen to fly higher than an eagle.

Now that no one cares about their nonsense, they want to regal us in tales of grandeur on how a supposed polytechnic accountant outperformed a Harvard and MIT alumni who currently sits on the board of Twitter and Standard Chartered. They think everyone on the planet is a tribalistic af*nja or aboki.

Of all the educated Yorubas on this planet, it's only a polytechnic accountant they found to manage Africa's largest economy. Maybe they need to take a crash course from the PDP on how to identify great minds like Adesina, Aganga, et al who are from the same ethnicity.

An enemy of the state who is even happy Dasuki is winning in the courts?

You have always been a shameless supporter of corruption.

It seems Ojota protest really pained you as it ensured that Jonathan never recovered his popularity after that foolish decision of shifting the burden of an over bloated subsidy scheme from the size he inherited, to the voting population who would not be in a position to ask any questions their own federal government should have asked.

You must tremble whenever you pass through the iconic Ojota.

That is the power of the people. The people who have the power to sack those they employ.[/s]

I'm not claiming anybody. Go and read her profile. But I know that's difficult for you because it doesn't play into your narrative.

Why you even think I'm pained is bewildering. This is fun for me. Coming back two years later to say "I told you so" is so immensely satisfying. NOI is not bothered. GEJ is not bothered. The International community is not bothered. I am not bothered.

All the hawks that directed the Ojota script from Tinubu to Bakare to Rufai have all added at least 50b to their net worth since then. Same as the PDP henchmen who lost in 2015. Yet here you are thinking your walk of shame in 2012 which eventually culminated in the same subsidy being equivocally removed in 2016 only to be reintroduced barely 3 months later somehow hurts me.

It's the fallacy of a nobody thinking he is more important than he really is. You trekked in 2012. Now you're still buying fuel for 145 and still paying subsidy of more than 100b per month. So what did you trek for? That's why I'm imploring you to start jogging because you'd soon start trekking again when the power brokers need foot soldiers. In fact do it so that it'd hurt me.

Agbaya!

We keep winning and Adeosun has been disgraced. Now revel in the knowledge that whatever you think about NOI wouldn't dent her standing and doesn't mean squat to me!

Irrelevant pawn!

While PDP is best suited to run the country.....

Bros, I believe by now you should have understood that neither APC/PDP deserve to run Nigerian economy.

These people are just playing on our ignorance and lack of unity.

To me, of what gain will it to them if kemi is goes behind the bars? Stella Oduah and co comes to mind.

Meanwhile see the daura chief in power whom I doubt has a first school leaving certificate let alone o level

You know the Daura chief in power did not have first school leaving certificate, yet you were campaigning for him in 2015.

Stop showing your tribalism and covering it with caring about how Nigeria is run. It's disgusting.

I'm first and foremost a proponent of restructuring. Everyone on the forum knows that. But since you guys have decided for whatever selfish reason that restructuring simply can't happen, then we have to choose the lesser of the only two evils who have a realistic shot of taking power, and in my opinion (which is objective), PDP is the lesser evil.

Even far back in 2013 before GEJ lost, NOI had a TEDx talk where she talked about campaign finance in Africa and how it is one of the cardinal root causes of corruption. It's been 5 years, and not one youth in a nation of 200m people has come up to say here's how we should tackle the scourge of campaign finance that mandates officials to dip their hands into the cookie jar.

This is the link to the TEDx presentation here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UMI9-6gmzE

As an aside, this is Amina Mohammed's TEDx presentation of her time in the PDP serving under OBJ, Yar'Adua and GEJ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RILDbPnjNfU

We have these people. Moghalu who is perhaps the most credible candidate now was part of the PDP as a senior staff in the CBN.

This is to show you that we don't lack the people, the ideas, or that the platforms can support credible, competent people. But that the structure is deficient. And of all the groups, only PDP realizes this to a degree and has taken actionable steps to deal with it through reforms, developing strong processes and institutions, and admit to their failings.

Yar'Adua admitted to taking power through an unfair election. Jonathan admitted he didn't perform well in security matters. Till date APC is yet still blaming everyone but themselves for everything. No party has come up with a credible ideology. Most of the independent candidates are still acting like tw*ts. Sowore with his 100k minimum wage. Durutoye with his contribute to buy form of N3.5m which is dishonest for a man of his caliber.

Yet in all of this, we have fellas like you, omohayek who is a professional fault finder, Throwback who can't get over his unbridled h*te for GEJ yet finds it difficult to understand why politicians don't prosecute their corrupt cronies who funded their election, obailala who won't let his focus on advancing a Western position allow him make objective conjectures et cetera. And this is just on Nairaland. Offline and on many other platforms, there are millions of others less informed than you guys with more disturbing viewpoints.

I think we should all just decide to have Nigeria run a one term Presidency that's zoned to the six geopolitical zones in turns. Switzerland which is a confederation does something fairly similar. So it becomes apparent that voting Lee Kwan Yew will not solve our issues, but tackling the root cause which is the structure. And that until then, we shouldn't be painting this idealistic setup that anyone would be able to perform miracles simply by running under a party with a different name.

Who are the WE that are winning?

Who needs to suck it up? Is it not a wailer that would always be told to suck it up and stop crying over a defeat that many have moved on from?

I have no business with the person of Okonjo Iweala, I will attack her based on her performance with facts and figures. Not personalised emotions like you are wont to do.

You on the other hand seem to be upset that the Jonathan and Okonjo Iweala regime was sacked. You have remain frustrated and aggressive in your vituperations since that time.

Why are you so offended with Adeosun? Did she stop your salary or stop your government contract, or switched off the blessed ATM Dasuki at the point it was your turn to make a withdrawal?

She would be smuggled out back to the UK or returned back to Ogun to play godmother in state politics like Lawal is currently doing in Adamawa.

Or is Adeosun to blame that the FG of Jonathan was owing over $5b in counterpart funding for JV oil projects?

Or is it Adeosun that made the Jonathan regime run down the ECA including the illegal withdrawals by Okonjo Iweala that she later admitted?

Is it Buhari that made a regime that inherited foreign reserves of $47b and crude oil price selling at over $100/barrel, to run down the reserves to $29b/$30b despite the immense petrol dollar earned within same period?

Is it propaganda that Jonathan and Okonjo Iweala, ran down government savings rather than build on what they inherited? Or are verifiable statistics propaganda?

Is it Adeosun that was giving import waivers to cronies and signing off unbudgeted funds to the blessed ATM Dasuki?

We are talking of the state of our economy, yet you are rejoicing in a resignation and gloating that someone else cannot be sacked?

Is twitter feeding the Nigerians that started losing jobs in the oil sector from late 2014?

Did standard chartered pay the FG counterpart funding for oil projects that Okonjo Iweala did not pay throughout her regime despite the oil revenue made?

Did your somebody status stop the nobody electorate from sacking Jonathan?

If class was permanent, why didn't Okonjo Iweala try to keep the debt profile, the foreign reserves and government savings and price of commodities permanent at the value she met them in 2011?

Despite the immense income, everything nose dived while the only things that went up were government debt and prices of commodities.[/s]

I agree buhari is tribalistic no doubt he is an ethnic bigot but folks should realise for sensitive positions such as chief of staff, SSG and DSS DG you need your own loyalists that you are comfortable with. Those are sensitive key positions

To be fair, that is correct. But he boxed himself into a corner by also appointing more Northern people to other sensitive positions where he could easily have appointed Southerners. That's why the outcry is loud.

Yar'Adua also had Northerners as CoS and DSS DG, but the security structure certainly was not 15 North/2 South. He was irrational with his first selection so he shouldn't complain that people are irrational because he replaced the DSS DG with a Northerner.

I remember when we were saying in 2015 that his appointments were nepostic and you guys were saying it's all about competence. We were seeing the long game, you guys were looking at immediate connotation. People have been saying he should overhaul the security top dogs. Now if he does so and replaces many of them with Southerners to make it fair game, how will his Northern constituents react? Will it be enough to buy him significant political capital in the South? The answers to both questions are "not good" and "no" respectively.

This is what it means to lose goodwill. IMHO, I think Buhari would have performed better if he had won without the help of the hawks he is currently in bed with, but he knew he couldn't win without them so he had to kowtow to them. A good percentage of his incompetence is because of the strange arrangement. For example, he may want to remove Kyari, but who else will fight for his interests like Kyari. And if he removes Kyari, he would have to replace him with someone like Kyari.

I don't pity him, he knew what he was getting into. But he or any of his supporters (including yourself) should not paint the air of innocence about his decisions. Buhari and his handlers hardly act coincidentally. Everything is planned and executed meticulously.

For example, before Daura authorized the DSS invasion of the Nat'l Assembly, Osinbajo had already obtained approval from Buhari (who conveniently traveled out) earlier that day to sack Daura. Now the same Bichi that Daura personally retained to serve with him even though Bichi had retired is the same Bichi that was brought out of retirement to replace Daura. Same thing with Lawal and Boss Mustapha.

Open your eyes. All of these people are billionaires and have been in the corridors of power for decades. They're not kids.

Okonko Iweala was minister of Finance from 2003 to 2006, when she was removed from Finance to External affairs.

There was no global meltdown during Iweala's tenure, so learn history before you speak rubbish. Rather, she used a period of immense oil revenue that should have improved government savings to pile up debt and run down all government savings. Then later warn us that recession is coming.

Most of the $12b we paid back to Paris club was already saved up during the tenure of Mallam Adamu Ciroma, who was Finance Minister in Obasanjo's 1st term.

Okonjo Iweala has always been a spender and she did not save even 1kobo during her 4 year stint with the Johnathan administration from 2011 to 2015. Rather she increased the debt profile at a time Nigeria earned its highest revenue from oil.

In fact, because crude oil prices had only fallen below $60/barrel just 7months after it had been selling for over $100/barrel since her tenure with the Johnathan regime began in 2011, yet she was already on a borrowing spree to the tune of N470 ($3b then) to pay February, March and April 2015 salaries as revealed by herself.

What did Okonjo Iweala do with all the oil revenue during her tenure when our oil income was 51% of all the oil revenue Nigeria had earned since 1956?

How did our Foreign Reserves drop from $47b in 2010 to $29b/30b in 2015, despite earning more from oil which accounts for over 90% of our foreign reserves, when compared to what was earned by the previous governments of OBJ and Yar'Adua who were able to save more with oil selling at half the price that it sold under Jonathan.

How come the Jonathan government when Iweala was minister of Finance, did not pay the FG share of counterpart funding for JV oil projects totalling over $5b? This resulted in many planned oil development projects being abandoned by the oil firms and leading to lots of job losses in the oil industry and support industries from late 2014 onwards when the oil price crises began gathering storm.

So with Okonjo Iweala during the Jonathan regime, we did not save, we did not pay FG share of counterpart funding, we did not invest in diversifying our economy, we bought 2nd hand trains and overpriced and malfunctioning military equipment, we gave import waivers to government cronies, we over bloated our oil subsidy scheme, we ran down the foreign reserves and all other government savings, she made withdrawals from ECA without approval from FAAC and is on record to have lied about it so many times before finally admitting when Gov Adams Oshiomhole will not let her tell lies peacefully, we borrowed so much, then equipped the blessed ATM Dasuki to be vending out unbudgeted security funds without requiring security PIN.

Embarrassingly, she as Finance Minister had no idea that the NNPC was short changing the FG, and only woke up to her responsibilities when the CBN governor made allegations that about $20b that should accrue to the federal purse from oil sales is missing. Only then did Okonjo Iweala come up with her own calculations that indeed money that should accrue did not, but it was a lesser amount of $10b.

Imagine a Finance Minister who had no clue of missing government revenue. What then was the benefit of her superior education?

All of these were done without any tangible infrastructure to show for all the money spent. Except casual warnings of an impending recession by the very person who should have worked a solution.

That was Okonjo Iweala's legacy as Finance Minister from 2011 - 2015[/s].

Kindly forward this to Twitter, Standard Chartered, Gavi, Lazard, and ANC.

I've debated this pile of hogwash two years ago and can't be ass*d to do so again when no one except fellow BMC propagandists take it seriously anymore. NOI keeps winning. GEJ appointees keep winning. And a thousand wannabes with forged certificates and a million zombies still harping on regurgitated expired propaganda won't change nada.

Premiumtimes hit piece caused Adeosun's sack. Now can you write any credible international medium that'd lead to NOI's sack from her engagements with Twitter, Standard Chartered, Lazard and others?

Didn't think so. Rants of a confused nobody.

Adeosun is a riff-raff compared to NOI. Class is permanent. Remember that!

shocked

Bichi enlisted in the defunct National Security Organisation (NSO) in 1982.
.

Haba, logically, the agency is still been handled by daura.

What an Irony.
What a mistake of a country

Same way Lawal was replaced by his kinsman Mustapha. Even if Kyari is removed tomorrow, na Kyari go still handpick him successor.

Even the people being dismissed know it's a game and are happy to make the sacrifice as long as it means Buhari will continue to stay in power. It's a necessary sacrifice as they're guaranteed to keep their loot and retain relevance in the polity. Lawal is still a kingmaker in Adamawa's APC. He still attends APC inner caucus meetings as a chieftain.

The Presidency has done this time without number.

Lawal and Oke were dismissed on a whim to contain the backlash of Maina's scandal.

DSS Daura was dismissed to contain the backlash of invading the Nat'l Assembly.

Now Adeosun was dismissed to contain the backlash of appointing Bichi.

The administration has a long list of disposable pawns that can be done away with for political gain. The Buhari administration may be inept and incompetent in policy initiatives and strategic planning, but it is well versed in the art of playing Nigerian politics.

Virtually all of the people behind Buhari's Northern drive were all in the corridors of power during the so-called PDP's and military corruption rule. This same Ahmed first had her federal appointment during GEJ's government. Bashir worked for OBJ. Kingibe, Monguno, you name them. It's only Southerners who carry this APC/PDP dichotomy like it's a religion. And it's the same Southerners that'd do the hatchet job, then get tossed aside for same old Northern elites.

It is certainly no coincidence that this allegation came up after her clampdown on that insubordinate fellow.

Exactly. Maybe the cabal leaked it to the Senate so the Senate could go after her like they did Lawal and Magu; except that the Senate thought (and rightfully tho criminally so) that she was of more use blackmailed than ejected. Eventually it leaked, and there are many possibilities on who and why it was leaked-pro-Buhari senators, the Cabal, sympathizers of the insubordinate appointee, et cetera.

She should have just done the right thing with all the numerous opportunities she had or at the very least learn not to throw stones in a glass house. If someone like Amaechi is found to have forged a certificate, nothing will happen to him (unless he falls out with APC).

Even the kyn Diezani lied about when she graduated and several things in her resume, yet she was too powerful to eject while Oduah was brushed off with ease. All these diasporan-educated Nigerians who get to come back should learn to play the game because more often than not, they may be just as corrupt but usually more competent than their counterparts who've been drilled in incompetency over here.

Now, they're placing misfit Ahmed to oversee the Ministry and there's rumor of the grossly incompetent Soludo being considered. Of course I don't think Adeosun is on NOI's level; but I don't hate Nigeria that much to want to see tried and tarnished characters like Ahmed and Soludo take Adeosun's place.

She was stupid.

This is the same NYSC exemption that Diezani Madueke obtained on the eve of her becoming a minister under Yar'Adua as Vice President Jonathan's candidate.

That's my biggest grouse with her. Even if she had a fake, she could have gotten an original while she was still a commissioner. Heck even during the six months when Buhari took his time to make the appointment. Of all the things to end your political career in Nigeria, it's fake NYSC exemption.

The worse part is that she had this issue and she was fighting the powerful cabal over an unruly Presidential appointee. It'd be no surprise if Daura the head of the DSS who was among the few who'd know it was fake leaked it to the Senate and to the Press. She really dropped the ball on this one.
