According to reports, a woman identified as 25-year-old Yakura Idi, has been arrested for murdering her 8-month-old son, Mohammed Idi.

Yakura was said to have murdered Mohammed with a knife, and buried him in a shallow grave in her compound in Gwange Ward, Damaturu, Yobe state.

According to Yobe state police commissioner Zannah Ibrahim, the baby’s remains have been dug out, and will be autopsied, while the bloodied knife has been put away, to be tendered as exhibit.
Yakura’s reason for killing her son, is yet unknown.

Respected nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka has said it would take time for President Muhammadu Buhari to clear the rot he inherited from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, whose administration, he believed, left a “heavy baggage” and “burden” that may take a while to tackle.

He said: “This (Buhari) administration has inherited a heavy baggage. While I am critical in some aspects of the priority, I think that to clear up the mess left by previous administrations is going to take quite a while, especially in the economy sector. So, I don’t use words like optimism or pessimism; I’m just pragmatic. I look at what is on the ground and, of course, wherever I can intervene, I do both privately and publicly.”

The prof however urged President to sustain efforts at improving the economy.

The July 20 entry deadline for UEFA election contenders will also speed the debate, with the Champions League format offering a campaign test for the next president. Options include more guaranteed entries for the strongest leagues, protected places for the biggest clubs, and playing matches on Saturdays rather than midweek to appeal to Asian and American audiences. Change is possible only every three years. It must be agreed before UEFA's retained agency, TEAM Marketing, can start selling Champions League and Europa League rights to broadcasters and sponsors for the next commercial cycle. In the last round of talks, for the 2015-18 cycle, the Europa League was boosted by rewarding the title-winner with entry to the Champions League. There are concerns that a too-predictable group stage turns off viewers, and that income -- UEFA sales and top clubs' share of it -- is not keeping pace with expectations.
