A few weeks ago we dealt with those who hold the highest responsibility if slavery. The African chiefs who sold their people, the raiders who captured and transported the slaves , the largest slave traffickers in history .
The reparation issue is a good question ,did you argue that the documented cases should be the only ones to pay. Which smacks of pinnibg the trade on a particular race.
Now to that add William Wilberforce, the British guy who moved boulders and rocks to have slavery trade banned and abolished
The America wealth was built on the back of slavery so they bear a larger brunt of the cost. By all means go after all the others but those who benefited hugely economically are not unjustly being asked to pay.

If you work for a company and your pay was withheld should your heirs receive your benefits after your death? Of course!

If slaves are to be compensated what about those who fought for those slaves to be free? Whose blood is thicker?
Slaves. Do you realise how many slaves died? Do you think the soldiers who died during the civil war are even up to half of the slaves that died during transportation alone?

Slavery should be compensated. Should the descendants of the white Republicans who lost their lives fighting the democrat slave owners be compensated?
Do we perpetually compensate the descendants of soliders?

The Justice Department has compensated people who were wrongfully prosecuted in the past. J6 protesters were wrongfully prosecuted , excluding Ray Epps who should have been jailed .
But slavery shouldn't be compensated for?

How much has been spent on improving blacks since the passage of the civil rights act. Answer
$26-30 Trillion.IRS has collected between $85-90 Trillion in revenues within the same period. Data from Google Gemini

What do they have to show for it apart from demands for reparations.
Should J6 protesters be paid reparations?

I didn't say a strong defense of culture was a hallmark of greatness. And, l didnt list iit in the main part of my response - there are rubbish cultures and practices that are strongly defended.

My point was that, having attained to greatness - even if only relative - the ability to maintain and defend those things that enabled and delivered said greatness is important.

I noted that with particular reference to the West, which is currently under attack from within and without, due to a failure to do just that.

What does "push culture in a positive direction" mean? How does that happen in any given settling, given that in both relative and absolute terms what would be positive varies widely. I noted the defence of rubbish cultures and practices earlier.

TV
For instance the way food or clothes culture changes to be more inclusive, that is an example of a positive direction. There many other ways culture can change in a positive direction. I feel that you as a conservative Christian might not agree with some of them but they make society better.

One would have to factor the era of the state. For example, in it's time it would have been the Roman empire., which had proper notions of citizenship. But it also had aliens, slaves (and probably illegals grin)

In absolute terms, you can't get away from a country\nation (an empire is possible, but largely disqualified by the very nature of empires), which has full-suite individual freedoms and human rights. Not just miiitary prowess, an advanced economy, functioning institutions and fosters technological advancement and innovation, as well as being a haven for entrepreneurs and welcoming to immigrants.

Another element would be a strong and robust defense of it's culture. Almost all natures are losing or being pressured to loosen that . But as things stand?

USAMERICA take a bow cool.

TV
Strong defense of culture is not a hallmark of greatness IMO. The ability to push culture in positive directions is what makes any people group great.

Even me that supports Republican knows they make some silly mistakes. But LordReed trust them so much that they can't possibly vote for something stupid. I agree the Republicans who pushed the bill and wanted to vote it are stewpeed.

You discuss things from ignorance. That's your problem.

Define the metrics that work for you.
The country/nation/empire that has provided the best mix of benefits for all it's citizens in accordance with the resources available to it.

He shut it down because it was a weak bill

The bill only gives Shutdown authority if the illegal border crossings exceed 5000 per day
Allows Catch and release
the bill also provides too much funding to sanctuary cities
And replaced it with what bill?

Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: 2026 Midterm Elections Live! by LordReed(m): 4:52pm On Apr 06

That's my reason. US dominated a more defined world with fully formed nations. The dominance is further underlined by a diverse immigrant population which is overwhelmingly the highest in the world dwarfing the combined total of the next 4 nations at the top.
Immigration is a terrible metric for measuring the greatness of a country when the US is primarily a nation of immigrants.

Ukraine is not a member its trying to Join NATO
So it wasn't required to pay anything so payments to NATO has no bearing on the US being a part of its Defense against Russia. And based on YOUR previous reason that merely shouting death to another nation deserves the US' intervention then there is no problem with the US coming to Ukraine's aid. This is all based on YOUR own reasons.
