Politics / 2023: South-east Must Produce Next President, Edwin Clark Insists by Loveurneighbour: 4:33pm On Dec 18, 2021 |
Elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark, has insisted that the South-East geopolitical zone must produce the next president of Nigeria. He said this when a presidential aspirant, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, visited him on Friday. Clark encouraged Anyim to work hard with other leaders across the country to build consensus for equity and unity in Nigeria, according to a statement after the visitation. Chief Clark reaffirmed his passionate “belief that the presidency of Nigeria in 2023 must go to the Southern part of Nigeria and indeed to South-East zone”. “I encourage you and others to continue the task of persuading and reassuring other Nigerians to share that vision”, Clark added. Anyim told the elder statesman and First Republic Minister of Information that he was running for the Presidency of Nigeria because he understood the challenges facing Nigeria and had what it takes to fix them. The former Senate President who is contesting the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party took the opportunity to consult with Clark on the state of the nation and his plan for the future. I thank God that Chief Edwin Clark will soon be 95 years old and yet he is blessed with phenomenal memory, lucid and curious mind, a benevolent heart, and boundless goodwill for all men. I thank God for your health and will forever cherish your counsel. “I will dedicate myself with full enthusiasm and conviction to advance the vision of equity in Nigeria, the unity of our nation, the peace and prosperity of all citizens,” he said. Crime / Nnamdi Kanu, Igboho May Spend Christmas In Jail by Loveurneighbour: 9:54pm On Dec 17, 2021 |
EXCLUSIVE: Nnamdi Kanu, Igboho’s Lawyers Lament Their Clients May Spend Christmas In Jail. One of the activist's counsel said the chances of getting Igboho out of prison in 2021 is very slim. As the year gradually runs to an end, from all indications, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho will spend the festive season in jail, barring any last-minute development. Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel for Kanu on Friday told SaharaReporters it was his wish that his client does not spend Christmas in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), but added that there is no court case again this year. The lawyer said he was waiting for Abia State High Court to fix a date to continue hearing of Kanu’s case. A lawsuit demanding Kanu's fundamental human rights had been instituted at the court. Justice Benson Anya of the Abia court had said in the last court proceedings on December 10 that the parties will receive notice on the date the court will render its judgment. Kanu is facing charges of treasonable felony levelled against him by the Nigerian government, but Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had adjourned his case till next year, January 18. Ejimakor said, "It is my hope as his lawyer that he will not spend Christmas in detention, but we don't have any court case this year again. "The Abuja case is next year January 18, while the Umuahia has been concluded but we have to wait for when they will call us for judgment." Similarly, Igboho, who was arrested by the Republic of Benin authorities at the Cotonou Airport on July 19, 2021, has since been in a detention facility in the neighbouring country. Speaking with SaharaReporters on Thursday, Pelumi Olajengbesi, one of the activist's counsel said the chances of getting Igboho out of prison in 2021 is very slim. He, however, does not rule out the possibility of Igboho's release as he added that efforts were being made to secure his release. “Frankly, the hope of getting him released this year is still very slim. There are diplomatic consultations going on in respect of that because as you know, Igboho in the eyes of the law is a very free person, he has committed no crime. “We know he's being held against his will. He's a prisoner of conscience and so we believe that he will be out soon but I can't guarantee he will be out before the end of this year. There are lots of diplomatic discussions going on in that regard.” Concerning the health of the agitator which had sometime ago been reportedly failing, Olanengbesi stated, “I can tell you right now that Chief Sunday Igboho is hale and hearty, very motivated, a very strong person. If you know him very closely, you will know he is a very courageous person. We continue to pray that God gives him more strength to remain focused.”

Investigative:You have a very long way to go. Go and visit history; The Nigerian Civil War (6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970; also known as the Nigerian-Biafran War or the Biafran War) Within a year, the Federal Government troops surrounded Biafra, captured coastal oil facilities and the city of Port Harcourt. A blockade was imposed as a deliberate policy during the ensuing stalemate which led to mass starvation.[44] During the two and half years of the war, there were about 100,000 overall military casualties, while between 500,000 and 2 million Biafran civilians died of starvation.[45] In mid-1968, images of malnourished and starving Biafran children saturated the mass media of Western countries. The plight of the starving Biafrans became a cause célèbre in foreign countries, enabling a significant rise in the funding and prominence of international non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The United Kingdom and the Soviet Union were the main supporters of the Nigerian government, while France, Israel and some other countries supported Biafra. 21 Likes 7 Shares |

Phones / 63.97 Million Telephone Lines Disconnected Amid SIM–NIN Linkage by Loveurneighbour: 3:05pm On Dec 12, 2021 |
A total of 63.97 million lines were disconnected in one year amid the National Identity Number-Subscriber Identity Module data verification, data obtained from the Nigerian Communications Commission show. The NCC data revealed that the total number of connected lines in the country fell by 21.79 per cent to 229,582,206 in October this year from 293,554,598 in October 2020. Within the period under review, the number of connected lines was highest in August 2021 (328,114,538) and lowest in September 2021 (229,467,077). The number of active lines fell from 207,578,237 in October 2020 to 191,618,839 in October 2021, a 7.69 per cent decrease (15,959,398). According to the commission, 37,963,367 connected lines were inactive as of October 2021, down from 85,976,361 in the same month last year. Telecommunication companies in the country have been losing subscribers since the Federal Government began the linking of NIN with SIM cards. “Mobile subscribers declined by 7.6 million to 68.9 million, impacted by the regulatory restrictions on new SIM sales and activations,” MTN Nigeria Communications Plc had said in its half-year financial statements.

Crime / Pastor Arrested For Raping Pregnant Woman In Ondo by Loveurneighbour: 8:47am On Dec 11, 2021 |
Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a pastor of a white garment church for allegedly raping a pregnant woman. According to the victim, identified as Bukola, the pastor allegedly committed the crime while she came for deliverance at his church. Narrating her ordeal at the police headquarters on Igbatoro road, Akure, on Friday, Bukola alleged that the pastor used ‘anointing oil’ to rub her private parts before he inserted his manhood. She said, “We usually have a programme every Wednesday. On that fateful day, I went to the church but unfortunately, the service had ended. “He collected the list they gave me from the hospital and said the items on the list were too many. He later said I should go and do the photocopy which I did. He then said I should take it to the altar. While I was sitting down, he started pressing my stomach. He asked me how many months my pregnancy was and I said five months. “He said he was going to do some spiritual work on me before my delivery. He stood up and entered a room. He later called me to enter and I did. He asked me to sleep which I did. He also said I should remove my clothes which I did. “He asked me to open my legs and dipped his middle finger with oil in my private parts. He said my baby was in a vertical position instead of being horizontal. He said he would put oil in my private parts and would help me insert it with his private parts so that the oil would get into the baby. “He then rubbed oil on his private parts and had sex with me. He said he was not supposed to do it but he helped me because my husband was not around. It was later after he had sex with me that I came into my right senses.” Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest of the pastor, noting that investigation had commenced into the matter. She said, “I have not got full details of the matter but the pastor is with us and investigation has commenced.” Copyright PUNCH.
