Politics › Re: The Issue With Peter Obi - David Hundeyin by Luchitec(m): 10:31pm On May 03 |
Thanks a lot! It is so easy for Mr. David to postulate without any clear pathway for a practical solution. njokuuche77: So Mr David what is the solution? We are very quick in this country to point fingers, assign blame, and intellectually tear people down. But what exactly are we proposing as a practical way forward?
Yes, the structural issues you raised about neo-colonial dependency and import-driven economics are valid. Nobody serious will deny that Nigeria’s economic model needs a fundamental reset. But beyond identifying the problem, what is the actionable path?
Are we saying any leader who wants to industrialise Nigeria must first: * Liquidate all foreign assets? * Disconnect completely from global systems? * Abandon diplomacy and take a hardline ideological stance? Because if that is the threshold, then we need to be honest, how many people are realistically positioned to meet it and still govern effectively? Transformation from consumption to production is not a switch you flip overnight. It requires: * Careful economic sequencing * Strategic partnerships (even with the same global powers) * Institutional reforms * Internal capacity building
Even countries that successfully industrialised didn’t do it in isolation, they navigated the same global system intelligently. It’s fair to critique Peter Obi, but it’s also important to recognise that governance is not activism. There’s a difference between ideological purity and practical statecraft.
So Mr David, I ask again, beyond pointing out contradictions, what is the clear, step-by-step solution for Nigeria that balances realism with ambition? |

Maybe, it was aliens that voted for him then . Moreover, prior to returning to Nigeria in 1998, Ned as the Managing Partner, Ned Nwoko & Co Solicitors, London, was an accomplished lawyer. Conversely, whereas Regina might be a household name in your circle, I never heard of her until the social media was awash with news of her marriage to a man almost 40 years her senior. In the project BOQ, each of the sections you highlighted has specific unit prices for road components. So, based on the work already completed/payment made, the onus is on the minister to provide information about the aggregated cost per kilometer of any section of the road to the public. TheBizGenius: I have a first degree in mechanical engineering and I am disappointed in what Makinde said.
If you have a road project that transverses
A. over marshy areas and you have to sand fill,
B. over water and you have to build a bridge and
C. over hard soil and you simply lay your asphalt on it,
how do you get the average cost of such a project?
But I also understand that Umahi dey hide figures to dey chop as naija politician anyway but professionally, he is right.
Make I no even mention the Arise broadcaster own. Mtchew. |
Politics › Re: Umahi Clashes With Arise Tv’s Rufai Oseni Live On Air: Who Are You? Keep Quiet! by Luchitec(m): 12:02am On Oct 08, 2025 |
Road construction contracts are made up of many items (clearing, subsoil excavation/filling, drainage channels such as culverts/bridges and surfacing. Hence, the average unit cost per kilometer of roadway can vary widely. Nonetheless, the total cost is typically obtained by aggregating all items in the contract, that is => govt unit rate for each item x estimated quantity. Note also that depending on site conditions, the actual quantity of items constructed could be less or more. Hence, physical measurement of works executed is jointly undertaken by the govt rep and a contractor prior to the preparation of every payment certificate. I believe that the Ministry of Works has the estimated average cost for each segment of the highway. So, if not for his usual condescending attitude, nothing stops Engr Dave Umahi from enlightening the public a little about the financial aspect of the road project. He could have simply said that the average cost is location dependent; that while the cost per kilometer in a swampy area could range from this amount to that amount, the unit cost could be as low as this amount for non-swampy areas. AndroBlaze: Do we have any civil engineers here?
I don't like trusting politicians though I must admit I see some sense in why cost per km could be misleading in a project that needs to pass through different states and terrains.
Is cost per km a bit of a silly question?
Please experienced civil engineers, help us out. |

I was in Nigeria in April and May
Had to pay 250 euro for each person for visa plus 300 euros processing fee

I have one question for the Propaganda minister
What is the website or web portal to apply for the e Visa he is talking about?

Michlins; you can do better nah...besides the irreplaceable human cost/knowledge lost, trillions of dollars Iran invested in positioning the country as a heavyweight in the Middle East was liquidated within days. Heck, some of my Persian friends are aghast and disappointed by the gross incompetence/unpreparedness displayed by the Iranian Military. Is this surprising? Not really. Since the First World War, the performance of military forces from the Middle East, especially from the Arabic-speaking countries, has been underwhelming. Factors such as sectarian/tribal loyalty and significant social gaps between the officer cadre and enlisted soldiers are major challenges, vitiating group discipline/cohesion, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the army. michlins: even Trump at NATO summit admitted that Israel took heavy punches from Iran. This is after US and allies already shot down plenty of the missiles.
That being said, it's estimated that Israel lost billions of dollars from the economy and most importantly, they lost lots of goodwill too. Lots of MAGA and conservatives who are staunch Israel supporters are seeing Israel as the aggressor and urging Trump to stop meddling with Israel affairs. Bear in mind that the midterms are here and Americans are against any form of foreign war.
In all, Israel lost more than Iran and they know except for you folks here in Nigeria |

God1000, your agony is just beginning . This is because the fraternal relationship between the State of Israel and the United States is immutable. Besides playing significant roles in the American Civil War, many Jews, especially Jewish immigrants from Germany were among the founding fathers of investment banking in the United States (Lehman Brothers, Salomon Brothers, Goldman Sachs, J & W Seligman & Co, Kuhn Loeb. and etc.). The impacts of these highlighted banks on the US economy circa mid-19th century and during the First World War were tremendous and well-documented in many historic books. Therefore, given that within the last 100 years, the Jews have used their intelligence and audacious business acumen to cement their position as insiders/stakeholders in the United States, aspersion/unbridled hatred towards the State of Israel is nothing but an exercise in futility. The United States and her allies will always stand behind Israel. God1000: The big brothers are coming to help them

Foreign Affairs › Re: Canada Will Cut Off Electricity Supply To U.S - Premier Warns (Photos) by Luchitec(m): 6:44pm On Mar 11, 2025 |
Thanks a lot for keeping the record straight. If misinformation is allowed to go unchallenged, the uninformed might accept propaganda as facts. By the way, Ontario is just one of the provinces supplying electricity to some states in the United States. Compared to Ontario, British Columbia is unwilling to toe Doug Ford’s approach because depending on the season/demands, the province exports/import electricity from California, Washington, and Oregon states. In general, British Columbia exports electricity when there is a surplus locally/higher demand from the US – (increased income), and imports in lieu of local generation when it is cheaper to do so. So, when it comes to cross-border electricity, it is all about business calculations. DemonSlayer: I don't support Trump nor his policies, but this comment is very misleading.
1. A single click will not throw the entire U.S. into darkness—this is an extreme exaggeration. While some states, such as New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, import electricity from Ontario, the OP mentions only 3 states. The U.S. has 50 states with a highly diversified power grid. The U.S. grid integrates multiple energy sources (nuclear, coal, natural gas, hydro, and renewables) before distributing power to consumers, meaning Canadian electricity accounts for only a small fraction of total supply. A surcharge on Canadian electricity might increase costs, but it would not cause entire states to go dark, not to talk of the entire country as you suggest.
2. Canada is not the biggest player in the region, the OP said Canada is more dependent on American exports than the other way round. The US economy is about $25 trillion while Canada's is at around $2 trillion, so the US economy is roughly 10 to 12 times larger. Most of Canada's exports, about 70-75%, goes to the US, meaning Canada relies a lot on American buyers, but the US, with its many trading partners, doesn't depend on Canada as much and has several other trading partners to turn to, that means Canada will suffer more in a trade war with the US, just as the OP has rightly stated. What Canada might do is to woo other partners, and be less dependent on the US, which will be more expensive logistically speaking. Trading with your partner across the border is smarter and cheaper than trading with someone across the ocean, you might lose competitive advantage when you include shipping costs and other logistics.
All said, like I've said before, and will reiterate, Trump's foreign policy will ultimately have a significant negative impact on the American economy. |
