Can you imagine these clowns? If the Governor can build and celebrate this type of low-budget edifice in his Nsukka Zone, then the rest of the state is in a serious mess. Is the present Enugu State Administration unaware of the giant infrastructural development projects in the neighboring states?
PoliticsRe: Edo North Youths Reject Ize-Iyamu, As Gani Audu, His Running Mate Escapes by Luchitec(m): 6:20pm On Jul 14, 2020
You are quite correct. However, If Ambode had read the handwriting on the wall early enough, he should have taken some preemptive actions/build his political structure. Can you imagine what would have happened to Obaseki if he hadn't refused to swear in the State House of Assembly members loyal to Oshiomole? He would have been impeached even before the APC gubernatorial screening.

lovelyefem:
Edo is not Lagos and it will not be.
Comparing Ambode and Obaseki is not fair at all .
To set the record straight, Ambode fought alone. The deputy, commissioners , house , LG chairmen ............... All deserted him and left him all alone .

Ambode contested the primary and lost out, he failed woefully in the primary, going to PDP was not an option because he understood quite well that Lagos is APC stronghold.
Obaseki on the other hand was not even given the chance to contest the primary, so he has the sympathy of the populace.
Pls note that am not a politician, I'm just stating my view hence am open to being schooled.

PoliticsRe: Amechi Bridge: Ugwuanyi wiped away my tears – Nwobodo by Luchitec(m): 7:10pm On Jul 09, 2020
I have looked at the pictures again, and you are correct. The recently commissioned bridge is different from the one Chimaroke built. Nonetheless, the state government has no business doing this type of shoddy project.

costandi:
Well, you're wrong. This bridge never existed before. I live few poles away from it. You might be mistaking it for the more robust Obagu-Amechi bridge used to connect to Agbani from Amechi built by Chimaroke and rehabilitated by Sullivan when it had structural issues. This one connects Ugwuagba Amechi to Amechi Uno. It was built from start to finish by the Engineering department of the military.
PoliticsRe: Amechi Bridge: Ugwuanyi wiped away my tears – Nwobodo by Luchitec(m):
costandi:
Inasmuch as I believe that Ugwuanyi is doing very poorly, I don't think it is fair to lie that this bridge existed before. Ugwuanyi built this one car bridge from the scratch.
EducationRe: Professor Sanjay: The Most Published Researcher In Nigeria Is Not A Nigerian by Luchitec(m): 10:10pm On Jul 07, 2020
Thanks for the interesting points you raised. It seems that the number of publications is more important to the Covenant University researchers. I once sent an email to one of their professors seeking clarifications about a data in one of his publications, but unfortunately, he never got back to me. The university should be encouraging quality research, especially studies addressing local problems.

darfay:
Lol
I'm here to Burst y'all inflated balls today. Covenant university seems to be good and all that but the volume of research seems to hamper on the quality of the research. How can one person produce 200+ scholarly work in 5yrs? Are they only into research or they teach/lecture as well?

Average citations per research work

Dr Sunday ojo had 225 publications with 619 citations in 5yrs that's an average of 619/225=2.7 Only per research work in an average of 5yrs

Dr Moses Emetere 384/211= 1.8 citations per paperonly in an average of 5yrs

Dr Hilary okagbue 846/142=5.9 citations per research work and this is by far your best research, take it or leave it.

Professor Roland Loto(I hear he isn't up to 40, big ups to him) 446/133=3.3 citations per paper in an average of five years

The above means hardly anybody takes covenant uni research seriously, I bet the citations include their own previously done work(s). I think this has to do with volume rather than quality of the work. If we go further to divide the computations above by 5 or 3 to get the average number of citations per year the result would be more miserable but it won't be fair since the work wasn't really stretched evenly over the time under review. And if for some reason this is the average citations for other Nigerian lecturers than we are really doomed(our educational sector I mean) and don't think that because I didn't analyze the Indian dude doesn't make him any less worse. Covenant university should focus more on quality of research. If you tell me that covenant has the most citations for any Nigerian university then I'll know something is wrong with your head because each lecturer producing an average of 100 work with an average of 1.5 citations while a UI lecturer might produce an average of 15 with an average of 6 citations (for example) should tell why you might have more citations. How much does covenant spend per research because I don't see why and how a mechanical engineering lecturer is having over 100 publications in 5 yrs with less than at the very least #50million at his disposal for the total research work except he is telling us what we already know.

But what do I know.....

PoliticsRe: PDP Grants Obaseki Waiver To Contest Edo Governorship Elections by Luchitec(m): 5:41am On Jun 20, 2020
No sir, in most developed countries, politics is not just about numbers/interest, party ideology is also very important. It is only in Nigeria and other shitty developing countries that you would see an aspirant switch from a socially progressive party to a conservative one, within a few days. What happens to all the Obaseki ‘s critique of PDP policies and programs in the past? Of course, neither the PDP apparatchik nor the masses gives a hoot about these things. And that’s why after two decades of return to democratic rule, Nigeria is still stumbling with simple things like organizing credible elections.

sofat:
Politics all over the world is a game of number and interest. Every political party wants a worthy candidate who can pull massive votes among the electorates. So wisdom says you take an elephant to replace an ant.
PoliticsRe: PDP Grants Obaseki Waiver To Contest Edo Governorship Elections by Luchitec(m): 7:17pm On Jun 19, 2020
Nigerian politics is such a huge joke. No party ideology whatsoever. So, besides Obaseki, the PDP has no other qualified candidate to present for the election?
PoliticsRe: Appeal Court Upholds Oshiomhole's Suspension - Daily Trust by Luchitec(m): 9:17pm On Jun 16, 2020
You have a point; the game plan is to render the APC useless in the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election. One consequence of the just aforesaid is that Adam Oshiomole traducers would end up holding him responsible for the sad state of affairs. Adam Oshiomole should just pray that the APC does not lose Edo State, otherwise his days as a political juggernaut in the party would be over.

emexc11:
That Obaseki is no longer a member of the APC is not contestable.
But know it now that Oshiomole has finally succeeded in handing over the governorship structure of Edo state to PDP on a platter of gold because all those actions taken by him as the national chairman will be null and void there by invalidating the candidacy of anybody that APC will present.
Who is speaking when God has not spoken?
PoliticsRe: Appeal Court Upholds Oshiomhole's Suspension - Daily Trust by Luchitec(m): 8:22pm On Jun 16, 2020
The APC is so disorganized that it is unsurprising why the country is in such a mess. The ruling party is hell-bent on self-destroying itself.

Doctor Clown, who told you that I am a medic? I don’t have to be one to call you out. Please, reading your write-ups here can give one migraine grin shocked. So, stop this your shitty talk about grammar usage. Doctor, what the hell is “cream de la crop”? Although, I subtly corrected your poor syntax in my last response, you seemed too slow-witted to have noticed.

DoctorATTA:
“ you, my dear man is definitely not a cream of the crop material “
CHAAAIIIIIIII

You Cannot even speak proper English. ( it is you my friend are not a cream of the crop material).

jealousy brings out the worst in people Oooo down to bad grammar .

I am not even calling my self cream de la crop and I have no research to boast off I have nothing to brag about however I can appreciate others why can’t you??

Atleast you can spell mediocre. It is the only thing you know how to say right.

To make it short and simple, I don’t need my medical degree to tell that you are a lousy doctor with no empathy or kindness to your patients.

Eventually you will tell me what is biting you that you cannot celebrate others achievements.
Envy, jealousy and resentment is all you display here from A to Z

CONGRATULATIONS DR IHIM
LET IT PAIN YOUUUUUUUU THERE
HealthRe: Doctor Ikenna Ihim's Work Published By Bio Medical Central by Luchitec(m): 4:02am On Jun 09, 2020
Doctor, you are such a terrible mediocre. For sure, the Johns Hopkins University hires only the crème de la crème. However, going by your writing/train of thought as displayed here; you, my dear man is definitely not a cream of the crop material anywhere intellectual acuity is a sine qua non. That’s ostensibly why you are so ecstatic about a five years old article that is yet to make any discernible impact in the medical field.

Doctor, my responses to you are opportunities for further exposition of your pigheadedness. By the way, my accomplishment is neither the subject of discourse here nor your business. Only a clown with an unbelievable low self-esteem will go around a public forum trying to impress strangers with his so-called professional title or be posting with alternate monikers that were registered between yesterday and today. Nonetheless, be rest assured that in whatever I do, mediocracy is an absolute anathema. Finally, I do not envy or resent Dr. Ihim. I am simply calling a spade a spade. Nothing more, nothing less.

DoctorATTA:
I thought you were not going to respond anymore??

Tells me how desperate you are to prove relevance.

It pains you that someone other than yourself is doing well.

Typical villager mentality.

The man has done something in a reputable university JOHNS HOPKINS.

A university that only works with the cream de la crop.

A university that u no fit set foot inside.

Do you even know the full details about why he isn’t the first author? Is it everyone that can be first author in the same research?

Why take away from our countryman’s contribution?

You are here yapping and eating groundnut and gossiping about others instead of doing your own or supporting them.

How ever Little or not YOU think it is, you should still be proud that we are doing things globally.

I suspect personal resentment FULLSTOP.

Go and do your own contribution in medicine and stop talking nonesense to down play others just because they no Dey here with you.

JEALOUSSY TO THE FULLEST
HealthRe: Doctor Ikenna Ihim's Work Published By Bio Medical Central by Luchitec(m): 8:07pm On Jun 08, 2020
Chai, the fact that a “doctor” can come up with this level of drivel beggars’ belief. Nonetheless, I decided to respond to you one more time because you sure don’t know shit about what you are yapping about.

I repeat, what the hell is “big academic institutions to portal articles”? Doctor, university libraries in developed countries subscribe to journals for the university community every year. Once, you are a registered student or a faculty member, your access to these journals is automatic. Although, academic network sites like the ResearchGate et al you previously mentioned share articles freely, but that does not confer any validation whatsoever to the articles shared via these platforms. Doctor, you can upload and share whatever crap you want on the ResearchGate, etc.

According to you, “Also the institutions like Johns Hopkins handle all monetary matters That they sponsor, so dr ihim and his research co authors must not have paid for the publication in reality.” Doctor, that’s not how it works. Payment of the APC is the decision/responsibility of the Research Center/Group in the institution where the study was undertaken. In fact, it is usually the responsibility of the Principal Investigator who secured the fund for the study to decide whether an APC should be paid or not. Your argument that “American based institutions like Johns Hopkins is paying, then it would be in dollars” is non sequitur. Common sense should tell you that the authors paid the USD equivalent of the £1570.0 APC. That is, USD 2170.0 according to the journal.

Why are you upset, you asked? I am upset that people like you, who go round shouting I am a “doctor” at every given instance are lowering the academic achievement bar, thereby promoting mediocrity in the Nigerian academic institutions. Dr. Ihim you are here chest-beating for is not even the main author in the article. Doctor, stay away from propaganda and unnecessary hype.

Your comment that I should “Go and repent and stop speaking Ill on notable accomplishments just because you cannot do the same” is very laughable. Doctor, in my research area, my peers know me. Let’s leave it at that.

DoctorATTA:
If you do not comprehend what it means for big academic institutions to portal articles in order to make them accessible to their medical students and other HCP and faculty, then you clearly hold no credibility or authoritative value when discoursing matters of academic research.

Bringing the good lord into a debate doesn’t mean you are correct and if you do proper investigation you would know that BMC accepts both pounds and dollars and if an American based institution like Johns Hopkins is paying, then it would be in dollars so get your facts straight.

Also the institutions like Johns Hopkins handle all monetary matters That they sponsor, so dr ihim and his research co authors must not have paid for the publication in reality.
You are clueless and assumptive in your statements and that reveals personal resentment.
What are you upset about?

I ask again.. are you sure you are not just being envious and blabbing words that are yet incorrect??

Please spare us the excuses, you are no longer able to respond because u are clearly dumbfounded with facts thrown your way that you didn’t see coming.

Go and repent and stop speaking Ill on notable accomplishments just because you cannot do the same.
HealthRe: Doctor Ikenna Ihim's Work Published By Bio Medical Central by Luchitec(m): 7:18am On Jun 08, 2020
This will be my last response to you because you seem to thrive in blissful ignorance. The fact that you are unaware that Wikipedia is not a valid reference speaks volumes. Doctor, anybody can create a Wikipedia Page! What the hell is "the article was ported by those reputable research sites"? By the way, I gave you the BMC Nursing article publishing charge (APC) in British Pounds because this journal is published in the United Kingdom grin shocked

Finally, you sound silly suggesting that I am envious of Dr. Ihim. Doctor, I do not have any reason to be envious of anybody. This is because the good Lord has been very kind to me, and I am deeply contented.

DoctorATTA:
Well let my Nigerian doctor self enlighten you abit.
Google this Gent’s work and you would see that it was conducted in THE Johns Hopkins University which is the best hospital in the world. That automatically sets it apart from average.
Furthermore Only a few references were made on Wikipedia’s nasogastric intubation site and his own was one of them for a reason.

I never said that it was simultaneously published. Go and read my English I said it was ported by those reputable research sites. They include NCBI, Johns Hopkins elsevier, research gate, the list goes on.

Lastly, nasogastric intubation is not a popular topic and is certainly not as popular as the topics of the publications of the other brilliant Nigerian professors that you just listed, so keying in on citation numbers is not a fair means to measure the scholastic nature of this publication.
How many topics are written regarding nasogastric intubation? Not much!!!

Why can’t you just be excited that your fellow country man is doing well as opposed to doing yahoohuh
Or is it simply a matter of envy??
Judging from your tone I cannot help but suspect the latter!!!
OOO by the way they use dollars in United States not pounds.
HealthRe: Doctor Ikenna Ihim's Work Published By Bio Medical Central by Luchitec(m): 6:49pm On Jun 07, 2020
A very good input from you, thanks. There is nothing groundbreaking about the study reported in this journal article. This is probably while it had only one citation since 2015. The payment of Open Access Fee for journals is a bit controversial; though both sides of the argument have valid points. And to the Igbo Amaka crew, you guys should go get a life! You lots should stop bringing tribalism to every issue.

2fine2fast:
Congratulations Dr Ihim.

However, Nairaland is supposed to be an educative platform like the likes of Reddit, Quora, etc. And I will continue to view it as such.
Thus, permit me to educate interested fellows and upcoming scientist in my own little way.
1. A search of the article on "google scholar", a search engine dedicated for academic publications showed that
the study was done in 2015. So can someone kindly tell me the media hype surrounding the publication 5 years
after?
2. The principal investigator of the research was Murad Bani Hani, being listed as the first author. Our compatriot is
the second author. In scientific research, and i would like to believe in all other types of researches, the main credit of
the work is given to the first author who most atimes carried out the main part of the study.
3. Furthermore, the journal in which the study was published " BMC Nursing" is a low-tier journal in the circle of serious
scientific publications. It has no real "Impact Factor" which is usually the Clarivate Analytics ranking of the impact of
journals. I for once would not consider publishing my work in such journals. In addition BMC journals are not well-indexed,
researches are considered to be valuable when they are placed in top-indexed, peer-reviewed journals published by Nature,
Elsevier, Springer, ACS , RSC, sometimes MDPI, and a few others I cannot recollect now.
4. In addition, the journal attracts a publication fee. This is a well-known trait of predatory journals which is considered an
ethical issue in academics. Why would i carry out a cutting edge research and still pay money to inform the scientific community
about it. Here in my faculty, all research published in paid journals raise concerns as it is believed they did not undergo rigorous
peer review which is the hallmark of scientific communication.

Like i said earlier, this post is only meant to educate and not to vilify. It is also meant for the perusal of upcoming scientist in Nigeria.
All through my study in NG, we never had this basic orientation. We came to better environment and realised that we knew close to
nothing of the real scientific world and had to handle around for a while before we got our footings. An article like this making the headline
and being celebrated on an important platform such as this underscores our knowledge as a country, which is a source of concern for
serious Nigerian researchers scattered around the world. Sometimes ago, it was some people celebrating the sequencing of the COVID-19
genome, by Ghana and Nigeria respectively, these are not scientific feats, they are mere routine laboratory tasks.

In all, lets top celebrating mediocrity as a people as it undermine the respect other nationals have for us. I use this opportunity to pay my respect
to indefatigable Nigerian Researchers doing their nation proud in various laboratories and research institutions scattered all over the world.
Thanks.
