Did you even bother to read the write-ups in the blogs? The highest percentage of respondents in the poll you cited actually agreed that “European and American journals are fair when evaluating manuscripts to be published.”

Publishing in most reputable journals is no easy task because the acceptance rate of articles is less than 10%, so people are bound to complain. However, despite the stringent review process of these journals, brilliant Nigerian researchers are publishing articles regularly.

And what is the connection of "Other forms of discrimination" to the ongoing discussion of Dr. Opeyemi failure to get his work published in a reputable journal before going on a media swashbuckling?

Your response is becoming jejune and hilarious. So, Dr. Opeyemi who was allowed to present his paper at an international conference in Switzerland by the “white racist group,” is suddenly disallowed from disseminating his work in a peer reviewed international journal by the same group?

My brother, my comments are based on my personal experience publishing and reviewing manuscripts in my field of research. Please, there are many home and diaspora-based Nigerian researchers publishing their studies in various science citation indexed journals across the world. Actually, I know quite a number of Nigeria based scholars’ who are world-renowned in their field! Let’s stop finding excuses for our people doing things wrongly. For now, methinks that Dr. Opeyemi is doing himself a great disservice by trying to use the media to blow his trumpet.

Finally, you hear "researchers from MIT or researchers from Harvard have proved” because these researchers from the aforementioned universities have humungous research fund and state-of-the-art facilities required for innovative studies! It has nothing to do with discrimination.

The attention a manuscript from LASU- Lagsos state university gets is not the same attention a manuscript from MIT- Massachusetts institute of science and technology gets. The earlier you accept this reality, the earlier you'll be nearer the truth.

In fact, the attention a research paper from USA, UK, Germany and a few other countries get is not the same attention a research paper from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Sudan get.

That's why you often hear "researchers from MIT" or "researchers from Harvard" have proved that...........

That's the way it is and Dr. Opeyemi would have believed as a simpleton as you do, until reality hit him. Now he know better that a manuscript from a third world country is regarded as trash.

In as much as we want corrupt people to be jailed ASAP, one question everybody seems to be glossing over is this; can the president order the arrest of any Nigerian citizen without recourse to the courts?

You are mixing things up, the review process comes before final acceptance of a manuscript. I will make my explanation more simpler. For most reputable International Journals, you submit your manuscript on-line via manuscript central/Editorial system whether you are white, black, old or young. Nobody gives a hoot about where you are coming from! Once your submission is within the journal scope, and also meets the manuscript preparation guidelines, the fate of your article is now in the hands of anonymous experts who will now determine the originality/ innovation in your work.

In fact, most international journals are interested in handling the review and possible publication of articles making ground-breaking discovery. Why? Such articles increase journal visibility and Impact Factor in the scientific community.

Please, let us desist from encouraging people to do things wrongly. People who are acquainted with Dr. Opeyemi should advise him to stay away from the media or else he would end up embarrassing himself and Nigeria big time!

That's if a manuscript is accepted in the first place. You assume like the other guy that once you send in a manuscript it must get a review. For your information, I follow academia and also do research work, so I know a bit about these things. Many manuscripts (from both whites and blacks) are languishing at various publishing quarters in Europe and America.

And as far as I know, nobody has been misinformed here.

Please stop misinforming people! Review of submitted manuscripts in most international journals is a double-blind peer review process. The identity of both the reviewers and author remain undisclosed throughout the review process.

The brouhaha about this issue is uncalled for. Any original piece of work by any researcher would have to be validated by his peers. Thereafter such ground breaking discovery would be disseminated widely via reputable journals in the research area. When General Muhammadu Buhari came to power, there was wide corruption in the Second Republic. A decree was passed that nobody take out or bring in foreign currency into the country. Offenders are liable to 10years in Jail. This decree was to curb money laundering by politicians and corrupt businessmen.

Fela had performed abroad, he was paid in foreign currency in cash and had it on him on his return to Lagos. He was subsequently arrested for breaking the law and was prosecuted, found guilty and jailed.

PLEA:
There was a plea by human right groups to Head of State Buhari to "pardon" Fela, he refused because he believe that the law be served to the letter.

THE OFFENSE, GMB AND FELA:
First, there was an existing law/decree.

Morally, he's justified! Legally, he is not.

MY OPINION:
GMB should have pardoned Fela. The law should have made for exception. Buhari should have tampered justice with mercy

In the past 15 years or so, the Enugu - Onitsha and Enugu - PH Expressway have been in perpetual reconstruction. The Federal Ministry of Work/FERMA corrupt engineers are actually responsible for the bad state of these two road. Why can't the Ministry/FERMA devise a new reconstruction approach since it is apparent that the seasonal swelling of the clayey sub-soil in some locations along these two road render whatever new asphalt layer placed useless during the rainy season? Of course the kick back the Minister/Ministry engineers receive from perennial maintenance contracts will prevent them from seeking a permanent solution to this mess. In my opinion, Federal Ministry of Works Zonal Coordinators, State Resident Engineers and their staff are the biggest obstacle towards having good road infrastructures in Nigeria, not the politicians. Some of the shoddy maintenance works we see yearly on these roads are actually being handled by incompetent companies fronting for Ogas -at-the-top in the Ministry.
