Hello All, Please I need your guidance. I am presently processing my Nigerian Drivers Licence. Due to the short time available before I travel to Canada, I may only get the Temporal Nigerian Drivers Licence (3 months validity) and the International Drivers Permit. Please do you think I can use the International Drivers Permit, Temporal Nigerian Drivers Licence (3 months validity) and FRSC letter to process my Canadian Drivers Licence? Kindly note that I intend to settle in Ontario and I have been driving for over 8 years in Nigeria (although just started processing a drivers licence). |

MisterT: Mine got to UNILAG after over a month of receiving WES email. WES sends verification request to UNILAG via post and UNILAG replies via email. I'll advise you to check back again by month end. If UNILAG still claims they haven't received the request, then contact WES via twitter and their online message system to kindly resend it to UNILAG. Best. |

sugah: Hi keep hope alive, *Striking varsity non-teaching staff may call off strike Wednesday* The Federal Government has agreed to source for about N8 billion to settle the Earned Allowance of striking non teaching staff of Nigerian Universities within the next five weeks. The workers have therefore been asked to suspend their ongoing industrial action by Wednesday, March 14 to allow full activities to return to the campuses. This decision formed part of the agreement reached between the striking workers under the Joint Action Committee and the federal government after two days of conciliatory meeting which also agreed that no worker will be victimized on account of taking part in the strike action. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Comrade Samson Ugokwe, President of the National Association Academic Technologists (NAAT), Com. Sani Suleiman and General Secretary of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Com. Peters Adeyemi. The workers had gone on a total and indefinite strike action on December 4, 2017 as a result of failure of the Federal Government (FG) to implement some of the contents of the Agreement of 20th September, 2017 between the Federal Government and JAC. The agreement, copy of which was made available to The Nation indicate that the government and the unions agreed that: “Government is to source for eight ( billion naira within five (5) weeks to pay JAC of SSANU, NAAT and NASU members and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), who did not get paid in the last disbursement exercise. “The Federal Ministry of Education reported that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has started payment of Salary Short falls and the process is still ongoing. The FME is to synergize with the concerned institutions to ensure compliance with Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) requirements to facilitate payments of JAC members in the Universities that are yet to comply. “The National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) is to rework the 15th December 2017 Call Circular taking into consideration the observations of JAC of NAAT, NASU and SSANU with a view to ensuring that it complies with the National Industrial Court (NIC) judgment. “The Federal Ministry of Education has made submissions to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) for onward transmission to the National Council on Establishment (NCE) meeting, slated for 18th March, 2018, in Owerri and is expected to report the outcome in 5 weeks. “The Federal Ministry of Education had put forward an application for the visitation panel to the Presidency and is to follow-up and report outcome in 5 weeks. The main thrust of visitation is to re-energize the Institution, unearth corruption and maladministration in these Institutions. “It was also agreed that the Federal Ministry of Education would set in motion appropriate machinery for the release of White Paper in respect of previous visitation panel reports already with Government. “The Honourable Minister of Labour and JAC leadership agreed that the ongoing strike would be suspended by Wednesday 14th March 2018, after due consultation with their National Executive Councils (NECs). No Worker would be victimized on account of this industrial action.” SOURCE http://thenationonlineng.net/striking-varsity-non-teaching-staff-may-call-off-strike-wednesday/ 1 Like |

As regards finding out the visa office processing your application, send an email to cpc-ctd-ottawa@cic.gc.ca Email subject must include your application Number. Email body must have the following: Application Number; Applicant type; Given name(s); family name; Unique Client Identifier (UCI); Date of Birth; Category of Immigration. I sent this email 9am (Ottawa time) and got the reply I needed minutes later. Cheers! 7 Likes 4 Shares |

Femicrux: Hi, I'll advise that the date on SOA should be very close to when you intend submitting your application to prevent suspicions and ADR. The risk of spending your POF while your application is in progress, is that you may get ADR for updated POF with a few days deadline. If the VO discovers that your POF is not up to the required, you application will be cancelled. Try to keep a straight forward application to avoid issues. |

Hi guys, I'm very thankful to God because I've received the golden mail and I don't know how to celebrate! My Timeline: CRS 454 ITA Dec 6th 2017 AOR Jan 12th 2018 MEP Jan 26th IP1 Jan 26th NA2 Feb 1st IP2 Feb 20th PPR Feb 21st Family of 3 No ADR Visa Office: Ottawa Some highlights of my application includes; 1. My POF = T-Bills(3months) + Generic Bank Ref Letter + 6months SOA + Gift of deed (100% amount from direct family). My total POF is in the T-Bills, explained this in my LOE. 2. Proof of employment = Reference letter (included NYSC experience) + Pay stubs. 3. There was a mistake in my spouse's name on our daughter's birthday cerficate, so I attached an affidavit (confirmation of name) together with the document to clarify this. Also explained this in my LOE. 4. Educational documents= Degree certificates + WES. I didn't include IELTS certificate although I registered the certificate number somewhere else in my application. 5. My spouse hasn't officially changed her name so I submitted our application with her maiden name. Our marriage certificate was enough proof I guess. 6. Passport photos = We took our final printed photos (50x70mm) from "Study 24" ahead of time. I scanned and resized it to the required specification (35x45mm) (using MS software) and used it for Post ITA submission. That's all I can remember off the top of my head and I hope it helps. Thanks to everyone that has ever communicated on this thread (names too numerous to list), it was very helpful! For those still hoping for better IELTS scores, please try again and give it all you have this time. For those still expecting the silver mail, please be very hopeful. Try to improve your CRS, while in the pool if you need to. For those still anticipating towards receiving the golden mail, it will certainly come! I'm wishing everyone here the very best and remember it will end in praise! 72 Likes 7 Shares |

BoboXIV: Hi, You do not need to be impatient to submitting an expired IELTS result (your application may be rejected). Also, if you truly want to migrate with your family, you don't need to declare yourself as "non-accompanying" spouse. June is a long time and you have a good CRS score. I'll advice you decline your ITA and get all your documents ready (including your valid IELTS result) before submitting your next application. 3 Likes |

lordbeans: Hi, If your profession is regulated, that means you need to get a professional licence before you practice in Canada then I'll advice you to be patient and assess both of your degrees. Also, if you desire to advance your studies in Canada, then this is another reason why you should assess both of your degrees. This is because WES can permanently store your verified transcripts and certificates in their data base and post it to any institution of your choice when you are ready to use them (saves future stress and cost). However, if you the think securing your PR quickly is more important and you wouldn't need a professional licence or further studies, then you can withdraw your lower degree from being assessed. As doing this will not affect your PR application. All the best. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Hello all, I'm sharing this to encourage others. I started my journey by considering both Canadian and Australian Immigration but made up my mind to drop Australia movement for that of Canada due to the cost involved, also Canada PR process looked more straight forward to me. ECA I decided to use WES for my assessment because I'm an Engineering professional and WES is needed in processing future professional engineering qualifications in Canada, as well as sending transcripts to Canadian Universities in the future. Also, I took the pain to assess both my BEng and MSc degrees (both from Nigerian schools) because of the above reasons. I started processing my WES application in August 15, 2017 and my WES E-copy report got ready in Nov 30, 2017 (timeline 2.5 months). My WES hardcopy report got to my apartment- delivered by NIPOST on January 4, 2018 (used standard delivery, $7). Although, I have never used the hardcopy. IELTS Took my exam on October 14, 2017 and passed on first attempt LRWS 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7.5 (Max point for Express Entry) -My study tips I studied for two months (1 month intensive). I printed the test answer booklets for reading, listening and writing test (got them free online). Reason is because I wanted to simulate typical exam conditions and I also practiced using a stopwatch. -Listening I practiced using the Cambridge material from 2016 to the end. A week to my exam, I did two listening test everyday in order to stay sharp. To be honest, I hardly scored 8 during practice and multi choice questions were my weakness so I spent more time at these. During my exam, I followed the audio recording by moving my pencil beneath the sentences on my question sheet in order to constantly stay focused. I ensured I read all instructions carefully. -Reading I practiced using all the past questions on General training reading that I could lay my hands on. I ensured I timed myself to finish in 45mins and checked my work with 15mins. I rarely scored 8 during practice. During my exam, I finished under 50mins, checked my work with 10mins(very helpful because I discovered some mistakes, which I corrected). -Writing www.ieltsliz.com was a great companion. I adopted all her different essay and letter formats(very helpful). I wrote at least 1 essay per day (most times). I read using a digital dictionary (for looking up words). I practiced with a stopwatch and tried to finished both parts under 50mins so that I could use the 10mins left for checks. During my practice, I knew how many lines I needed to write, to achieve the required minimum number of words (since I used the IELTS answer sheet). During my test, I finished under 45mins and used 15mins for checks. -Speaking I practiced using a voice recorder, which made it possible for me to assess myself. Sometimes I practiced in front of my wife (she acted as the examiner). During my test, I had a relaxed conversation with the test official. I tried to expand my speech, such that the examiner always had to stop me. I noticed that I was more interested in learning/improving my English language skills than just passing the IELTS test. So it turned into a stronger desire for me. I also realised that passing IELTS can only be done by understanding the test (tricks, structure and rules). To understand IELTS one has to learn from tutors such as Liz and then practice what they have learnt. I spent more time and resources practicing for IELTS because I needed to overcome my weakness. I gave it my time (despite my 9-5 job) and studied as if my life depended on it. I prepared and wrote my test such that my wife (a nursing mother) won't have to write and also save the money. My CRS is 454 (lost 27 points since I'm married and my spouse didn't write IELTS or did ECA, but it didn't matter) Created my profile Dec 5, 2017 got ITA Dec 6, 2017. I'm presently on AOR stage- Jan 12, 2018. I'll give detailed update on how I packaged my application for submission on a different post. Special thanks to God for His grace, and everyone who took out time to contribute on this platform. Godspeed also to all those preparing for IELTS, waiting for ITA or expecting PPR. It will end in praise! 62 Likes 1 Share |
