IslamRe: Prophet Muhammad: The Greatest Teacher Of Optimism by Lukgaf(op): 2:27pm On Oct 11, 2018
In fact, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) changed many names for the purpose of demonstrating the positivity of this beautiful religion of ours. He changed “Ghurab” (crow) into “Muslim”, “Harb” (war) into “Silma” (peace), “Ghaafil” (heedless) into “‘Aaqil” (intellectual), “Nakira” (unknown) into “Ma’roof” (well-known), “Al-Muddaji’” (he who reclines) into “Al-Munba’ith” (full of energy).

He would also change the names of tribes. He changed “Banu Mughwiya” (the tribe of erring) into “Banu Rishda” (the tribe of reason).

The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would even change the names of places. He once came across a land and asked about its name, they said: “‘Afrah” (the colour of dirt) he said, “It is ‘Khadira’” (green). He even once walked through a valley and was told it was called “Shi’b Ad-Dalaala” (the valley of misguidance). He changed its name into “Shi’bul Huda” (the valley of guidance).

Admittedly, attaining such an optimistic outlook to the trials of life is not easy, particularly when the factors involved seem to be massively disadvantageous to the reputation and welfare of Islām. So the question which poses itself is: What then was the source of the Prophet’s inspiration? How did he keep going when others would buckle? How would he smile when others wept? The answer is simple. He recognised the Creator whom he worshipped more than anyone else ever did.

Thus he (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would say that Allāh said:

“I will be as my slave thinks of me so let him think of me what he wills.”[9]

To suspect good of Him is a branch of good knowledge of Him. The opposite is true as well.

IslamProphet Muhammad: The Greatest Teacher Of Optimism by Lukgaf(op): 2:25pm On Oct 11, 2018
In the direst of times, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would persistently raise morale, boost confidence and steer attention to the bright side of any situation or condition that the believers would find themselves in. Sahl b. al Hanthalia reports:

“We travelled with the Messenger of Allāh (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allāh (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam). A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allāh, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where I saw that Hawazin had gathered all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn!!”

This, of course, is nothing less than harrowing news. But how would the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) respond?

The Messenger of Allāh (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) smiled and said: “That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allāh wills.”[1]

And he (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would exclaim:

“If the enemy attacks you at night, let your war cry be ‘Ha-Mim. They will not be helped!”[2]

In fact, as the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would walk the streets of Mecca, inviting to Islām, the pagans would hurl at him the most vile of insults, one of which included “Oh Mudhammam” (meaning the despised one) as opposed to Muḥammadan (the praised one). Did this burst his enthusiasm and weaken his morale? Not for one moment, for the shades of pessimism never covered his eyes. Upon hearing their spiteful words, he would say to his companions:

“Does it not astonish you how Allāh protects me from the Quraish’s abusing and cursing?! They abuse a man called Mudhammam and curse Mudhammam while I am Muḥammad.”[3]

It does not stop there. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbas reports that the prophet went to visit a Bedouin who was ill and bed-bound. Rather than lament at his condition, or create for him a sense of despair, he uttered such beautiful words of hope:

“Do not worry, this will cleanse you from your sins if Allāh wills.”

But the response of the Bedouin was incredibly negative. He said:

“Cleans me from my sins?! No, it is a fever that is boiling an old man and will lead him to his grave!”

The Prophet then said:

“Then in that case, yes, it will.”[4]

By the evening of the next day, he was found dead.[5]

As far as the Bedouin was concerned, his fever was causing him nothing but pain and anguish, but the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) wisely covered the dark side of his suffering and showed him instead the bright side of it, for this will purify sins and raise ranks in Paradise! The Bedouin insisted however on negativity and thus he reaped what he desired.

In another narration the Prophet is reported to have said:

“Do not curse fever for it expiates ones sins just as the furnace removes the impurities of iron.”[6]

Amazingly, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) would even go as far as changing names for the purpose of upholding optimism! Upon immigrating to Madīnah he would change its name for it was previously known as ‘Yathrib’, a term related to ‘at Tathreeb’ which means to reprimand or to blame. He changed it to Taaba or Tayba meaning ‘that which is good’.

Also, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) once inquired about the name of a particular girl, they said she is: ‘Aasia (preceded with an ʿayn, which means sinner!), so he said: “you are (now) Jameela.”[7] which means the beautiful one.

Similarly, Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab reported that his grandfather went to the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam). On receiving him, the Prophet asked, “What is your name?” He replied, “Hazn (rough)”. The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said, “You are Saḥl (ease).” He said, “I will not change a name which my father gave me.” Ibn al-Musayyab (his son) thus concludes, “So roughness (Huzunah) remained with us until today!”[8]

Now, she has her degree, the Masters and PhD, but no one comes for her again. No one wants the crooked-faced, proud woman again. If only they know she's changed!

Oh! She had definitely trespassed. She would be 39 next year and not a man,not a single man has approached her for the past six years. But its not their fault. Its her own fault. She's the authour of her own misfortune. She had always wanted certificate, and now she has the certificates. She uses the best of cars. But she has no crown, no man she can call her own. The beauty self is not there anymore, probably, they might have considered that. she had had opportunities, even different ones at that, but this is her today,a 38 years old single lady, not a widow, not a divorcee.

Only Allaah knows she's repented. Anyone that comes her now,na jam she go jam am. Even if she will be the fourth wife, she doesn't mind. But that's only if, cos she heard men look for sweet sixteen nowadays, not a old school like her.
Its enough, yah Allaah!she cried. Enough is enough!Because If only she will lie, this life as a single isn't easy, its a very big torture!
Humn! she sighed again, dropping the pulse sized mirror she's been looking at, now with a tear-soaken face. If only she had listened to advice...

To all Fatimah Ewapo out there, please take heed before its too late. You can still become anything you wanna be in your marriage. It only requires you to be focused. Verily, life as a searching single is not easy,ka ma paro o. May Allaah grant every singles, widows and divorcees out there, their source of joy,Aamin.

Faatimah let out a sigh, but not a sigh of relief as it's in most books it's a sigh of exasperation. She's fed up with everything, with every fucking things!

She looked at the mirror again, for the umpteenth time. Oh! This is not her, this is not Faatimah Adegbenle Ewapo. She can't be this trash. I mean, the beauty she's been boasting of, and proud of can't go like that,it just can't.

She looks again at the face in the mirror. That old crooked face she wished the concealer would have helped her conceal. But she was wrong, the concealer even makes it worse.

Faatimah can still remember vividly how her friends used to endorse her beauty then, like indomie. Especially, Jaleelah, her best friend out of the five friends she kept then. Jaleelah will say in her tiny,Bell's voice, Ewapo, Omo to dara bi egbin, onimu bi imu larubawa (a praise of beauty).

She smiled at the memory, if she's asked her greatest wish now, it'll be to return to that prime days of her. That days when she would blush deep inside her when different brothers approached her. They had wanted her so badly them, as a wife. Many of them visited her father then, and his father accepted them very well. But none of them was her crush. She didn't like any of them, in fact, she hated them. Most especially, Alfa Rufai, who would not let her rest and always sent her gifts through her father. But she would reject them, all of them. She remembered how she had called the brother, onímú òpá ìwàkà. All she had wanted then was her masters degree and PhD. Nothing less! And all advice from her parents, especially, Mama Tooke, her mum, that lady's time is so short, had fallen into her deaf ears. She had called her mum the enemy of progress then. Little did she know that its for her own sake.
IslamRe: Smiling: A Blessed Thing by Lukgaf(op): 1:35pm On Oct 11, 2018
Jalal-al-Dīn Rumī also explains this fact as follows:

“The wise, indeed, make lamentations at first and smile later; the foolish, on the other hand, smile at first and beat their heads at the last. O people! From the beginning of the affair discern the end (thereof), so that you may not be remorseful on the Day of Judgment.”

In this regard Imam Ghazālī narrates the following story.A man asked his brother, who was laughing exaggeratedly:

“What is the matter? Did you get news that you have been saved from Hellfire?” His brother said: “No, I did not.” The man asked again: “Then how can you laugh so much?” (Ghazālī, Iḥyā, III, 288)

None of the servants of Allah except His prophets are guaranteed to enter the Paradise. Wahb b. Ward (may Allah have mercy his soul) gave the following advice to the people, when he saw them laughing on a holiday:

“If your sins are forgiven, this is not the manner of those who feel gratitude. If your sins are not forgiven, then this is not the state of those who are afraid of Divine Punishment.” (Ghazālī, Iḥyā, III, 288)

Muhammad b. Waṣī (may Allah have mercy his soul) says that:

“The laughs of those, who do not know whether they will be in heaven or in Hell are as weird as the cry who is already accepted in Heaven.”(Ghazālī, Iḥyā, III, 289)

This conduct consists of an important aspect, which Islamic ethics helps its followers to gain. Therefore even if a believer has great volcanoes boiling in his heart, his face should spread serenity like a peaceful harbor. He should neither be too relaxed with joy nor be pessimistic with extreme grief.

A believer should develop a moderate state in his heart between khawf (fear or awe of Allah) and raja’ (hope in Allah’s mercy). Khawf means not to be spoiled from good deeds and to be in a state of both continuous supplication and fear Allah’s punishment. Raja’, on the other hand, means to be hopeful of His mercy and not to be pessimistic.

Khalid al-Baghdādī explains this state of the heart to one of his disciples in a letter:

“I swear Allah that I do not believe that I have performed a single action which is acceptable by Allah and won’t be questioned before Him since the day I was born… (I only hope my Lord’s mercy) …Please do not forget to pray for this poor servant’s success and for him to have a good last breath.”

A smiling face, which is an essential characteristic of a believer, also shows the level of this state of moderation. However, even a praised behavior, such as smiling, has dangers and the danger of smiling is to do it with wrong intentions. Smiling out of wrong intentions such as pride, scoffing, looking down to brothers in Islam will have serious consequences in the Hereafter.

When Ibn Abbas (r.a) was interpreting the word “small or large” in the verse “They will say, “Woe to us. How come this book leaves nothing, small or large, without counting it?”…” (18; 49),

he says that: “small means smiling when mocking with a believer, while large sin, on the other hand, is laughing meanwhile.” (Ghazālī, Iḥyā, III, 294)

IslamRe: Smiling: A Blessed Thing by Lukgaf(op): 1:34pm On Oct 11, 2018
Excessive laughter sometimes impels a person to heedlessness and makes him forget that he is being tested in this world. Forgetting that the real happiness is in the Hereafter results in slavery to the mundane pleasures of the self. Long and continuous laughs poison the soul, darkens the heart, and causes it to lose its sensitivity.Omar t makes the following warning about the dangers of excessive laughing:

“Those who laugh excessively lose their dignity. Those who make too much jokes are teased. Everybody gets to be known with the things they do most. Those who talk too much make too much mistakes. Those who make too much mistakes lose their shame. Those who lose their shame avoid the questionable things less. The hearts of those who avoid the questionable things die.” (Ghazālī, Iḥyā, III, 288)

Heedlessness, which is the most significant spiritual disease, deceives human by showing him that his happy life in this world is eternal. Heedlessness distracts his attention and makes him forget the main problems of a human being in this world like death, resurrection, judgment day, and afterlife.

This characteristic of a human being is stated in the following verse:

“And will you laugh and not weep? While you are indulging in varieties.” (53; 61)

In this respect, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) says that:

“If you but knew what I know then you would have laughed little and wept much.” (Bukharī, Tafsīr, 5/12)
IslamSmiling: A Blessed Thing by Lukgaf(op): 1:33pm On Oct 11, 2018
Life in this world continues with its ups and downs. Human soul is like a guest house. Not just sorrows and afflictions but also happiness and goodness of this world are like its guests. None of them are permanent. This is why a believer should not disrupt the order and tranquility of this world by feeling too much happiness or sadness in the face of varied incidents of this mundane world.

The perfect life of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is full of manifestations of sadness and suffering. Further, he states this in the following saying

“No one has suffered in the way of God as much as I have.” (Tirmidhī, Qiyāma, 34/2472)

However, none of his suffering hindered his balance and resolution. He (pbuh) confronted all of them with maturity and contentment. Even though his soul was full of sorrow, his face never went without a smile. Nobody ever saw him frown or with sullen face; because, he was always smiling in peace and tranquility for being in the presence of Allah the Almighty and manifesting the smiling face of Islam under any circumstances.

The goodness of the inner beauties of the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) and the friends of Allah, who were annihilated themselves in the Prophet (Fanaa fi al-Rasūl), has manifested in their faces. Umm al-Dardā (r.a) narrates that:

“When Abū al-Dardā was talking, he always smiled. One day I told him:

“I am worried about that people might think your smile weird and admonish you” and he replied:

“The Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) certainly smiled, when he was talking about something.” (Aḥmad, V, 198, 199)

Constant smile of the Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is the best manifestation of his restful unity with Allah the Almighty.

Every human being feels pleasure from being happy; however, like in everything else, there has to be a balance and an appropriate limit in feeling happiness. Just like it is wrong to destroy one’s self because of the suffering faced in this world, it is also wrong to show too much joy and pleasure before the felicitous incidents of the world.

Both of these states damage the human dignity and personality. A believer should always have a sensitive and delicate heart. And he should always have smile on his face. Smile is the dignity of a believer in comparison to the levity of laughing. On the other hand it is also the charm of a believer contrary to the repulsiveness of a sullen face.

Jalal al-Dīn Rumī makes a subtle warning about that even an ordinary act like smiling may give clues about the character of a person and says that:

“From how he smiles, I understand the quality of his manners; and from what he smiles at, I understand his level of his intelligence.”
IslamRe: Superstition And The Month Of Safar by Lukgaf(op): 1:24pm On Oct 11, 2018
What to do:

1. To shun all types of erroneous beliefs regarding the blessed month of Safar.

2. To understand that the most unfortunate person is he who disobeys Allah Ta’ala’s commandments e.g. does not perform the five daily salaah etc. It is narrated in a hadith that Rasoolullah (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “Pray, 0 Allah! Cause not anyone of us to be a wretched destitute.” He then asked: “Do you know who is a wretched destitute?” Upon the request of the Sahabah (Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhum) he replied, “A wretched destitute is he who neglects his salaat.”

3. We should understand that all conditions which befalls us, good or bad, favourable, or unfavourable are from Allah Ta’ala, (as a result of our actions). Allah Ta’ala says: ” Whatever misfortune befalls you, it is due to the things your hands have wrought, and He forgives many a sin.” (Surah 42 – Verse 30).

This can also be confirmed by the following Hadith:

Sayyadina Jabir (Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu) has said that, “I have heard Sayyadina Rasoolullah (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) saying, the descending of illness and evil superstition befalling in the month of Safar is untrue.”

To believe that the Month of Safar is inauspicious, and particularly to believe that its first thirteen days are ‘bad luck’ or that it is harmful to marry or propose to marry or undertake a journey, etc., during these days are beliefs which are against the teachings of Islam.
In pre-Islamic days people considered the Month of Safar to be evil and ominous. Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam strongly rejected such beliefs and ideas. The truth is that no time, day, month or date is in itself evil, but the deeds of people are either good or bad. The time spent in the performance of good deeds will be auspicious and the time spent in sin and the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala will be evil and ominous.

The Month of Safar is not ominous. Evil deeds and incorrect beliefs are ominous and should be given up and repented for. It is incorrect to postpone or delay marriage or its proposal or a journey, etc. because of such beliefs.

Rejecting the false beliefs of the days of ignorance Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam said, ‘Belief in ill-omen is Shirk (polytheistic) (he said this thrice) and the owl’s ominousness is nothing.’ The Mushriks of Arabia used to believe that a house near which an owl screeches will be ruined, hence, Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam refuted this belief as false. Thereafter, he said, ‘There is nothing ominous about the Month of Safar’. (Bukhari vol.1 pg.857)

The polytheists believed the Month of Safar up to the 13th day to be inauspicious, hence, Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam rejected this superstition. It is therefore wrong for Muslims, who are the followers of Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam, to adopt the ways of the non-Muslims and to entertain the very beliefs which he had come to change.

May Allah Ta’ala grant all Muslims the ability to accept and practice upon all the beautiful teachings of Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam, Aameen.

Incorrect Beliefs:

Today too, there are some Muslims who hold incorrect beliefs regarding the month of Safar.
1. A nikah performed in this month would not be successful.
2. This month is full of misfortune and calamities.
3. To commence any important venture, business etc. during this month will bring bad luck.
4. The first to the thirteenth of Safar is ill-fortune and evil.
5. The person who distributes food or money on the 13th of Safar will be saved from its ill-fortune.
6. To celebrate the last Wednesday of Safar and regard it as a holiday.

The Month of Safar during the Days of Ignorance

The Muhaddithin have recorded many of the superstitions harboured by the Arabs during the Days of Ignorance. A few are mentioned below:

1. The pre-Islamic Arabs believed Safar to be a snake which lives in the stomach of a human being and when hungry, bites the person. This is the discomfort one experiences when gripped by the pangs of hunger.

2. Some said Safar are worms which originate in the liver and ribs due to which the colour of the person becomes yellow, a condition we know today as jaundice.

3. According to some, the month of Safar flanked by Muharram and Rabi al Awwal is full of calamities and misfortune.

With the advent of Islam and the teachings of Sayyadina Rasoolullah (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam), all evil and incorrect beliefs common in pre-Islamic times were discarded.
IslamRe: Superstition And The Month Of Safar by Lukgaf(op): 1:22pm On Oct 11, 2018
There is a host of corrupt beliefs regarding this month. True and sincere Muslims should refrain from them and engage in beneficial deeds. In reality, no time or individual is evil originally. All the customs and beliefs of Sa-far are baseless.

Many people have erroneous beliefs regarding this month i.e. it is a month of misfortune and calamities. The teachings of Allah Ta’ala and His Most Beloved Rasool (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) gives us clear guidelines on such incorrect beliefs.

Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says in the Qur’an al-Kareem:
ما أصاب من مصيبة إلا بإذن الله
“No misfortune befalls except by Allah’s command...” [Surah Tagabun, Verse 11]

These erroneous beliefs have also been condemned in the context of the following Ahadith:
لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولاصفر
There is no superstitious owl, bird, no star-promising rain, no bad omen in the month of Safar.[Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5707]

لا عدوى ولا صفر ولا غول
There is no bad omen in the month of Safar and no Ghouls (evil spirits). [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2222]

The above Ahadith clearly refutes all incorrect beliefs and superstitions regarding the month of Safar. These incorrect beliefs flow from the pre-Islamic period of Jahiliyyah .

All praises to Allah (Sub haa nahoo wa Ta’aalaa) and choicest blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammud (Sallal law hu ‘alay hi wa sallam).

We have entered the second month of the lunar calendar. Sa-far with a “Sawd” either means ” To turn yellow’ or ‘To be empty/vacant’ . It was in Autumn when the leaves turn yellow or the homes of the Arabs were empty of their menfolk, that this month was named Safar.

This month is also known as, Sa-farul Mu-zaf-far or Sa-fa-rul Khayr, which means, pr o s p e r o u s , successful, good fortune etc. This is to eradicate the corrupt beliefs of some people who say, the month of Sa-far is bad-luck, evil, ill-omened, unfortunate etc., so marriages, major transactions etc. must not be conducted in this mo n t h .

Rasoolullawh ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) eradicated all superstitious beliefs. Time, day, week, month, year is an estimation and effected by the will of Allawh .

If anyone does good at anytime, he will be rewarded accordingly and the effects of evil and sins will be decided by Allah .
There are many periods of the lunar calendar and many places in the world where the rewards of good deeds are multiplied and has an adverse result with sins. Our intellect and understanding is limited, therefore we seek divine guidance from the Glorious Quraan and Ahaadees of Rasoolullah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) . Senior scholars have explained many things to us, in accordance to the Sha-ree-’ah, which we must accept and adhere to, if we desire success in both worlds.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother in Islam, We welcome you to the Muslim Ummah. We also thank you for the great confidence you place in us, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake.

Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

“Since you have been addicted to an extremely pernicious habit that destroys your spiritual soul and thus leads to self-destruction, you must urgently summon your will power and take all the necessary steps in order to wean yourself of it immediately.

In order to empower yourself to achieve this, you should seek counseling and therapy, preferably from those professionals in the field who are conscientious Muslims. If such Muslim professionals are not available, choose one from those who are ethically and morally conscious. It is important for you to wean yourself of these pernicious habits. The consequences of persisting in them are simply unthinkable; they would undoubtedly corrode your spiritual soul and cause your spiritual death.

Sins by their very nature are addictive, for it is in the very nature of the carnal self to seek pleasure in sins. As Al-Busiri has rightly said, “The carnal self is a like a baby; if you neglect him, he will grow up clinging on to the breast-milk forever, but if you wean him off, he will be weaned off.” I suggest a few tips which you can use to empower yourself:

1. Visualize and meditate on the ugliness of this heinous sin and conjure up images of hell fire as painted in the Qur’an and the Sunnah as many times as possible until such time that whenever you are tempted to visit such websites or read such magazines, the scenes of hell fire will be playing in your mind. Thus, even as you have associated this addiction with pleasure, you will come to associate it with pure pain and suffering.

2. Convince yourself of the urgency of removing this malignant cancer from your life by taking all measures such as listing all the negative things about such habits, and listing the verses and traditions about the gravity of sins. Remember it is far more serious than cancer attacking your body, since your soul survives you even after your physical body has disintegrated in the earth.

3. Imagine how terrible a loss you will be facing were you to die while being addicted to this most heinous sin.

4. Seek strength from Allah by crying to Him for succor. But you can never seek the help of Allah unless you seek to establish connection with Him through regular Prayers, so never be slack in your Prayers.

5. Schedule your time in such a way that you are never left with any time to think of such matters. Imam Ash-Shafi`i said, “If you don’t occupy your mind with good works, your carnal self will make you busy in bad deeds!”

6. Surround yourself with spiritual and Islamic influences and virtually immerse yourself in them.

7. Always hang around with good Muslims who are busy doing good works; join a halaqah (study circle) where spiritual training is imparted together with the study of Islam.

8. Make your mind and tongue busy with dhikr (remembrance of Allah). Say the following words and others frequently:

Subhan Allah; al-hamdu lillah; laa ilaha illa Allah; Allahu akbar;
Wa laa hawla wala quwwata illa billah. Astaghfir Allaha al-azhim min kulli dhanbin wa atubu ilaihi. (Glory be to Allah; praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah; Allah is Greatest. There is no power or strength except by the will of Allah. I ask forgiveness of Allah from all my sins and repent to Him.)

9. Once you have been weaned of these pernicious habits, you should seriously consider marriage; marriage is the protection against temptations.

I pray that the Beneficent Lord of Mercy save us all from the evil inclinations of our souls and make us hate disbelief, transgressions and sins; and may He endear to our hearts faith and good works. Amen.”

Finally, brethren, kindly note that each time you're doing any of the above, you may be;

1. Changing the name's meaning completely. As in kafari and Gaffar. Gaffar is he who who forgives, and kafari is he who disbelieves. Toorh, stop calling my brother Abdulkaffar, he is Abdulgaffar

2. You may be making mockery of the name of the righteous predecessors.

3. You may be destroying the confidence people have in telling others their names. That's how a Muslim child will be telling you her name is Abosede. What a name?! Why? Cos her name is Toyyibah and she fears people calling her Tayi. Stop calling Abdazeez, Laisi too.

4. You may be attributing Abdul to other than Allaah. The case of Abdul kafari.

5. You may be incurring Allah's wrath on yourself.

Conclusion

So, brethren, know, bmay Allah perfect your affairs, that Allaah is beautiful and He loves what is beautiful. He wants us to be perfect in all what we do. Also, what is worth doing is worth doing well. So, next time u wanna call that Islamic name again, ask well from the bearer the correct pronunciation. The name's bearer too should know their names correctly. If you don't get it ,practice it. Above all, search for a pristine knowledge about Islam and Arabic Language, I bet you won't have yourself to blame. May Allaah ease our affairs. Aamin

At this junction, it should be noted that many a people makes this mistake because of the following:

1. Ignorance : Those who don't know, and don't ask.

2. stubbornness: Some knows the correct pronunciation but hey, they don't wanna deviate from how their babas called it, ask them if there baba has nairaland account?

3. Arrogance: Some believes perfecting peoples' names is a sign of respecting them. And they cannot come and respect a yesterday's child that was given birth to in their korokoro eyes.

4. Joke: some pronounces Peoples' names wrongly just to make people laugh. SMH. This is very bad.

5. Unnecessary tushing : some due to the fake knowledge they claim to possess Behind a name which eventually makes it wrong. That's is how they will be calling Rizqoot with t. Whereas, Rizqoo don't take letter 't'.

6. Hatred: some just hates the name bearer and wants him to feel foolish.E.g,Sulayman-Sule.
7. Feel free to add yours
IslamWhy You Should Call People's Names Correctly? by Lukgaf(op): 8:34am On Oct 05, 2018
Some times ago where I was brought up, a woman was asking a brother about his friend, do u hear from Booda Idiru? She asked. When I protested the name isn't Idiru but Khidr, the woman didn't lemme talk. She told me the name is not new to her, and even one of her students who happens to be an Alfa's (Scholar) son was registered by the name-Idiru. Omo Alfa (Scholar's son) indeed!

Another case is that of a tailor back home, mummy Stephen. She would ask about my big brother- who by Allaah's blessing was named Abdul Goffaar-here and then. Kafari nko o (Where is Kafari, mummy Abdul Kafari), she would ask our mum that way. These and many other cases are so common in almost all households especially in Yoruba States. The problem is if correct some of them politely, they will call you extremist.

So, what exactly am I saying? we should know as Muslims that Arabic, the language of Qur'an and Hadith, the language from which our names originated is so complex and sensitive that if a letter is wrongly pronounced in a word , it can change entirely the meaning of the word. E.g, is the popular name, the name of our Prophet Ibroheem's wife, Åajaroh (هاجرة)can be changed by merely changing the first letter ها to Ha, حا and guess what, the Ha one,حاجر means stone. funny, isn't it?

IslamIs It Better To Recite Qur’aan From Memory Or To Read From The Mus-haf? by Lukgaf(op): 8:28am On Sep 28, 2018
Praise be to Allaah.

In prayer, it is better to recite from memory. See (islamqa)

Outside of prayer, it is better for a person to do that which will increase his khushoo’ (humility, focus). If his khushoo’ will be increased by reciting from memory, then that is better; if his khushoo’ will be increased by reading from the Mus-haf, then that is better. If it is the same in either case, then reading from the Mus-haf is better, because it combines reading and looking, and his eyes will be protected from looking at things that may distract him from reciting and pondering the meaning.

Al-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar (p. 90-91):

Reading Qur’aan from the Mus-haf is better than reciting from memory; this is the view of our companions and it is well known from the salaf (may Allaah be pleased with them). This does not apply in all cases however; if the reader can focus and ponder the meanings more when reciting from memory than when reading from the Mus-haf, then reciting from memory is better. If it is the same in both cases, then reading from the Mus-haf is better. This is what the salaf meant.

There are weak (da’eef) ahaadeeth narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which cannot be used as proof that it is better to look at the Mus-haf. We mention them only to draw attention to the fact that they are weak. These include:

“Looking at the Mus-haf is an act of worship; for a child to look at his parents is an act of worship; looking at ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib is an act of worship.” This is a fabricated (mawdoo’) hadeeth, as al-Albaani said in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, 1/531.

“Give your eyes their share of worship: looking at the Mus-haf, thinking about it and pondering its wonders.” This is also fabricated (mawdoo’). Al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, 4/88.

“Five things are acts of worship: eating little, sitting in the mosque, looking at the Ka’bah, looking at the Mus-haf and looking at the face of a scholar.” This is a very weak (da’eef jiddan) hadeeth. Da’eef al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, no. 2855.

And Allaah knows best.

IslamCharacteristics Of The Righteous Women by Lukgaf(op): 8:17am On Sep 28, 2018
Praise be to Allah

As this world is a stage that leads to the hereafter, in which man is tested to see what he will do, so that he will be requited for it on the Day of Resurrection, what the wise Muslim must do is seek in this world everything that will help him to attain happiness and bliss in the hereafter. The most important help and support is righteous company. That begins with the Muslim society in which he lives, then with choosing pious friends, as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) enjoined: “Do not keep company with anyone but a believer.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (4832); classed as hasan (good) by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami‘.

Then finally he should choose a righteous wife who he hopes will be the best companion to help him attain eternal happiness in paradise with Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.

The righteous wife is one who is good in many aspects.

She is the one who it is thought will guard her chastity and her honour in the husband’s presence and absence, and be diligent with regard to both minor and major issues.

Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husbands) absence what Allah would have them guard”

[an-Nisaa’ 4:34].

She is the one who is of good character and has good manners. She is not known for foul speech, meanness or bad manners; rather she is good-natured, pure of soul and clean of heart, speaks in a gentle manner and treats people kindly. More important than all of that, she accepts advice and listens to it attentively and wholeheartedly; she is not one of those who are used to arguing stubbornly and arrogantly.

Al-Asma‘i said: An elder from the tribe of Banu’l-‘Anbar said: It was said that women are of three types: one who is easy-going, gentle, chaste and dignified, Muslim, a help to her family, and not a burden on them; one who is merely a vessel for childbearing; and one who is like a heavy yoke that Allah places on the neck of whomever He wills, and takes it away from whomever He wills.

One of the scholars said: The best of women is the one who, if she is given she is grateful, and if she is deprived she is patient; you feel happy when you look at her, and she obeys you if you instruct her to do something.

She is the one who upholds her connection to her Lord and always strives to increase her level of faith and piety. She does not omit any obligatory duty, and she is keen to do some naafil (supererogatory) deeds. She gives precedence to pleasing Allah, may He be glorified, over everything else.

Concerning that, the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Choose the one who is religiously-committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (4802) and Muslim (1466).

The righteous wife is the one whom you see is serious about caring for and raising your children, teaching them Islam, good manners and the Qur’an, and instilling in them love for Allah, love for His Messenger, and love of good for people. Her main concern is not what they may attain in this world of prominence, wealth and degrees; rather she is concerned that they should attain a high level of piety, religious commitment, good character and knowledge.

In addition to all of that, the Muslim should choose a wife who gives him comfort when he sees her, and he feels joy in his heart when she is present, so she fills his house and his life with ease, joy and happiness.

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what type of wife is best? He said: “The one who makes (her husband) happy when he looks at her, and she obeys him if he instructs her to do something, and she does not do anything with regard to herself or his wealth in a manner of which he does not approve.”

Narrated by Ahmad (2/251); classed as hasan (good) by al-Albaani in as-Silsilah as-Saheehah (1838).

It was said to ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Which type of woman is best? She said: The one who does not know about saying bad things, and she is not crafty like men; her focus is on adorning herself for her husband and taking care of her family.

See: Muhaadaraat al-Udaba’ by ar-Raaghib al-Asfahaani (1/410); ‘Uyoon al-Akhbaar by Ibn Qutaybah (1/375).

* He knows that his destination is the Fire, and he hopes to take everyone else with him to Hell, out of envy, hatred, kufr (disbelief) and stubbornness.

Sahih al-Jami’, no 5676, Sahih al-Jami’, no.5677. Iblis has placed his throne above the water and then he sends his detachments. The closest of them to him are those who cause the greatest trial. One of them comes back to him and says: ‘I did such and such.’ Shaytaan replies: ‘You have not done anything.’ Then another comes to him and says: ‘I did not leave him alone until I caused division between him and his wife.’ So Shaytaan brings him closer to himself and says: ‘You did well.’ ” Muslim. Indeed, Shaytaan flows in the son of ‘Adam like blood.” Bukhari, Muslim and others. Take a nap / siesta as Shaytaan does not take a rest. at-Tabarani in al-Awsat and Abu Na’im in at-Tibb. Shaykhal-Albani declared it hasan in Sahih al-Jami’, no. 4307

* He does not need anyone to whisper to him, because he is the source of all evil.

* He has no power over those who believe Q16:98-100

* He was present at the battle of Badr, he appeared in the form of Suraaqah ibn Maalik. But when he saw angels he turned and fled. Q8:48, at-Tabaraani in his Tafseer (13/7), al-Mu‘jam al-Kabeer (5/47), Majma‘ az-Zawaa’id (6/82), Maalik in al-Muwatta’ (944)

* He is never seen on any day smaller, more humiliated, more defeated and angrier than on the day of ‘Arafah, because of what he sees of the descent of mercy and forgiveness for sins, except what he saw on the day of Badr.

* In Ramadan, the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every Shaytaan mareed is chained up. al-Bukhari 3277, Muslim 1079.An-Nasaa’i (2108), classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh an-Nasaa’i , Sharh az-Zarqaani ‘ala Muwatta’ al-Imam Maalik (3/137), Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (25/246).

* He, other Jinns and humans, have free will and freedom of choice, to obey Allah or to disobey Him Q18:29, Q76:3

* The devils (shayaateen plural of Shaytaan) are the kuffaar (disbelievers) of the jinn. Shayaateen are from among the jinn. They are the rebellious ones and the evilest among them, just as the evil doers and kaafir among mankind are the rebellious ones Q6:112, Q18:50

* Every person has a Shaytaan and an angel with him as constant companions (Qareen). Muslim 2814.

* The Shaytaan inspires man to evil and calls man to evil. There are times when he has control over man’s heart and can find out, by Allaah’s decree, what a person intends to do of good or evil.

* There are also times when the angel has control over a person’s heart. He makes him incline towards good and calls him to good.
The believer suppresses his Shaytaan by obeying Allaah and adhering steadfastly to His religion, so he humiliates his Shaytaan until he becomes weak and unable to stop the believer doing good or make him fall into evil, except what Allaah wills.

* The sinner, by his disobedience and evil actions, gives his Shaytaan the strength to make him do evil and encourages him to do evil, and discourage him from doing good.

* The believer has to fear Allaah and strive against his Shaytaan by obeying Allaah and His Messenger and seeking refuge with Allaah from the Shaytaan. And he should strive to defeat Shaytaan by obeying Allaah and His Messenger and heeding the commands of Allaah.

* Muslims help their brothers among the Jinn to obey Allaah and His Messenger just as they help their human brothers by teaching and reminding other humans, for the jinn may attend the lessons of humans in the mosques and elsewhere and benefit from them. Q 46:29-30, Q72:1

* A Jinn may make himself visible in human form to some people when pointing them towards something good or something evil.

* The fate of the Shaytaan on the Day of Resurrection will be the worst and most horrible of fates Q38:82-85, Q58:19

* Shaytaan will disown his followers on the Day of Resurrection and everyone who followed him will regret it, when regret will be of no avail. Q14:22 Usool al-Deen al-Islami by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibraaheem al-Tuwaijri

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: My close friend [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] advised me to do three things which I will not give up until I die: fasting three days of each month, praying Duha and going to sleep after Witr.

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1124); Muslim (721).

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: “It is sufficient for you to fast three days every month, because for every good deed you will have (the reward of) ten like it, so that will be like fasting for a lifetime.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1874); Muslim (1159).

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: “If you fast any part of the month, then fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (761); al-Nasaa’i (2424).

This hadeeth was classed as hasan by al-Tirmidhi, and al-Albaani agreed with him in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 947.

As at the time of report, I learnt, their Priest has been arrested and detained in the police custody.

IslamRe: War Against Shaytaan 1 by Lukgaf(op):
Shaytaan is being referred to as Iblees, sometimes, in the Quran. The term Iblees إِبْلِيس‎ may have been derived from the Arabic verbal root ب-ل-س (with the broad meaning of “remain in grief”) or بَلَسَ (balasa, “he despaired”). Furthermore, the name is related to talbis meaning confusion. The name “Iblees” means “One who has lost hope”, in the case of iblees he lost hope of Allaah’s Mercy hence why he became known as Iblees.

Some claimed that his name was `Azaazeel. Azaazeel is Hebrew in origin, like the names of the angels, Jibreel, Meekaa’eel etc. The “Eel” part is Hebrew for “Allaah”, “Jibr” means “slave” and “Eel” is “Allaah”, therefore “Jibreel” means “Slave of Allaah“. Imaam At-Tabari Rahimahullaah reports in Jaami`ul Bayaan Fee ta’weelil Qur’aan that `Ikrimah Rahimahullaah said: “’Jibr’ means ‘slave’, ‘Eel’ means ‘Allaah’.” Likewise with `Azaazeel, the “Eel” part means “Allaah”, while “`Azaaz” means “Strengthened”, so “`Azaazeel” means “Strengthened by Allaah“. Imaam Ibn Abiz Zamanayn Rahimahullaah says in Tafseerul Qur’aanil `Azeez: “It has been said that his name was `Azaazeel, but when Allaah cursed him and became angry with him he (Iblees) lost hope in His mercy, that is: He (Iblees) lost hope, so He named him “Iblees”.” What the mufassirin (Quranic exegetists) have quoted from a group of the salaf (righteous predecessors), such as Ibn ‘Abbas and others, that he was one of the noblest of the angels, one of the keepers of Paradise, and that he controlled the affairs of the first heaven, and that his name was ‘Azazeel is all taken from the Israliyyat (reports narrated from Jewish sources) and is not reliable.

Iblis or Iblees is the devil, the Shaytaan. Iblees, as mentioned, is a Jinn. Jinn are beings who exist on earth just as we do, yet we cannot perceive them. They are part of the unseen. The devils (or demons) among the Jinns are called Shayateen (plural for Shaytaan). This is why you can call Iblees Shaytaan, but you cannot refer to any particular Shaytaan as Iblees. While the Shayateen themselves are all disbelievers, not all disbelievers are Shayateen.

The dispute as to whether Iblis was originally an angel whom Allah changed into a devil, or whether he was not originally an angel but was included in the word malaikah (angels) because he had joined them and worshipped Allah with them, is a well-known dispute among the scholars. A number of scholars were of the opinion that Iblis was not originally one of the angels, rather he was one of the jinn, but he used to worship Allah with them, so he was called by their name because he followed them, just as an ally of a tribe may be given their name. Q66:6, Q21:27, Q18:50.

Moreover, in his well-known book, Fiqh As-Sunnah, the late Sheikh Sayyed Sabiq states:

Abu Hurayrah reported: “I asked the Prophet: ‘Which Prayer is the best after the obligatory Prayers?’ He said: ‘Prayer during the mid of the night.’ I asked: ‘Which fasting is the best after that of Ramadan?’ He said, ‘The month of Allah that you call Muharram’”(Ahmad, Muslim, and Abu Dawud).

Mu`awiyyah ibn Abi Sufyan reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah say:“Concerning the day of `Ashura’, it is not obligatory upon you to fast on it as I do. Whoever wishes may fast and whoever does not wish to is not obliged to do so” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

It is noteworthy that Muslim scholars have stated that fasting of `Ashura’ is of three levels as follows:

1. fasting for three days, i.e., on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of Muharram,

2. fasting the 9th and 10th of Muharram, and

3. fasting only the 10th of Muharram.

Explaining the virtue of fasting on the 9th and the 10th of Muharram, Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former President of the Islamic Society of North America, states:

It is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him used to fast on the day of `Ashura’. When he came to Madinah, he found out that the Jews of Madinah were also fasting on this day remembering Prophet Musa (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) admired this tradition and said to the Jews, “I am closer to Musa than you are.” He fasted and he also told his Companions to fast on this day.

Later, before the end of his life, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told Muslims to add the 9th day also. Thus, it is recommended to fast on both the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
IslamFasting On The 9th (tasu'a) And 10th Day(asuuroh) Of Muharram by Lukgaf(op): 8:08am On Sep 14, 2018
Today is 3rd of Muharram, 1440AH, next week Thursday and Friday are the blessed day of Tasu'a and Asuuroh respectively where fasting is of great benefit.

First of all, it is very important to make it clear that fasting on the day of `Ashura’ – the 10th of Muharram- is of great merits in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Fasting the day of `Ashura’ (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year” (Muslim) in (https://archive.islamonline.net/?p=5270).

Also, fasting the 9th of Muharram is highly recommended by the Sunnah. Imam At-Tirmidhi reported that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: We should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (At-Tirmidhi)
