Education / Have You Ever Mimicked Or Nicknamed Your Teachers? by Lukgaf(m): 3:00pm On Jan 01 |
It is not uncommon for students to mimic and give names to their teachers based on their teaching style and repeated phrases during lessons. A friend shared a funny incident that occurred after their teaching practice (TP) at a school. During the "send forth" program, students were asked to mimic some of their TP teachers for fun. One student humorously imitated our colleague, complete with mimicking how he introduced his lessons and touching his moustaches simultaneously. The scenario was said to have brought laughter to everyone. I believe positive mimicking is beneficial. It aids learning and helps students remember important information shared by the teacher. Positive mimicry can solidify important lessons from the teacher. Many of our teachers have shared stories of how they, too, mimicked their teachers in a similar manner. Personally, I mimic teachers I admire (positively) and appreciate students who mimic me (positively). Recently, a student sent me a voice note of how I explained a concept in one of my videos from A to Z, showing their engagement. However, giving teachers nicknames based on their teaching style or repeated phrases may not be appropriate. Atimes to avoid being labeled with a nickname stemming from a funny incident in class, I make it clear, "that does not mean you should be calling me Mr (that thing) o." This helps set boundaries in a playful manner. Who knows if they would insist and include me in their nicknames? How do you feel when your students mimic you? Do you like it? Have you ever been nicknamed by your students? Lalasticlala |

Islam for Muslims / A Charitable Act Upon Every Bone by Lukgaf(m): 8:16am On Dec 29, 2023 |
This week, let's review the 26th hadith of the forty hadith of An-nawawih. For the past review, see here
The hadith expands the concept of charity beyond the traditional understanding of giving money or material possessions. It includes a wide range of actions, emphasizing that even small, everyday deeds can be considered charitable acts. One of the highlighted actions is to "judge justly between two people." This underscores the significance of justice as a form of charity. Fair and just decisions contribute to the well-being of society and are considered virtuous acts. Also, acts of physical assistance, such as helping someone with their mount or belongings, are recognized as charitable deeds. This encourages a sense of community and cooperation, emphasizing that lending a helping hand is a valuable contribution to society. The hadith mentions that "the good word is a charity." This emphasizes the importance of using positive and kind language. Words have the power to uplift and inspire, and using them for good is considered a charitable act. Did you gain anything from the Hadith? 11 Likes 1 Share |
Islam for Muslims / Clarifying Muslim Stance On Non-muslim Festivals by Lukgaf(m): 8:09am On Dec 29, 2023 |
It is another festive period for Christians, and there has been controversy regarding wishing those who celebrate this festival a Merry Christmas, with many people pointing to those who hold the belief of not celebrating them as extremists. Are these people extremists? No! Firstly, Islam teaches Muslims to respect and do good to people irrespective of their beliefs. In fact, Prophet Muhammad enjoins us to be good to human beings and even to animals. A good Muslim should be good to all mankind — respect them, show love to them, commiserate with them when they are bereaved, and grant an invitation when invited to a halal event. But there are limitations. Every belief has this. When there is a conflict in belief, then Muslims stay back. Christians believe in the Trinity, while Muslims believe in monotheism. So, it is part of my belief and principle not to associate myself with anything that goes against my belief. It is just like our politicians. Some are in APC, and others are in PDP. When there are core principles that do not go with APC, will PDP abide? Does that mean PDP hates those APC members? No! When Akeredolu died, all of them, irrespective of the party, commiserated with his family, but they did not celebrate Akeredolu when he won at the tribunal. I hope you see the angle I am coming from. So, people should stop tagging Muslims who do not celebrate non-Muslim festivals as extremists. They are not! They are acting based on their beliefs and principles. They are not extremists. |

Following the investigation conducted by Jim Obazee, a special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to examine the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)'s records during the tenure of Godwin Emefiele as governor, a report has been released. The findings highlight various corrupt practices during President Buhari's administration and when Emefiele was CBN's governor. I think the former President should be probed and questioned by the EFCC for allowing such things to happen under his leadership. What do you think? No emotion, please! 3 Likes |

Islam for Muslims / Guidelines Of Practicing Sport In Islam by Lukgaf(m): 9:18am On Dec 22, 2023 |
Having physical strength, health and soundness helps a person to worship Allah by praying, fasting, performing Hajj, striving in Jihad, and so on. Being physically weak and sick is an impediment in doing many acts of worship. However, there are matters of Islamic etiquette that one should pay attention to when playing sports and doing exercises to strengthen the body: 1. Seeking reward with Allah, and doing these things to help one worship Him and support those who have been wronged. 2. These activities should not involve anything that is contrary to Islamic teachings, such as participants bowing to one another , striking the face, uncovering the `awrah, gambling, and so on. 3. It should not distract one from obeying and worshipping Allah, honouring one’s parents and other important priorities. 4. One should not spend great amounts of wealth on it, to the point of extravagance; rather one’s involvement in such activities should be based on moderation and within the framework of Islamic teachings. Islam for Muslims / Re: The Value Of Charity by Lukgaf(m): 8:36am On Dec 15, 2023 |
This hadith draws our attention to how the Companions sought to compete with one another for the hereafter and in seeking the reward of Allah (swt). The level of concern the Companions of the Prophet (sas) had to constantly seek opportunities to carry out good deeds is evident in this hadith. Although there is nothing wrong with wanting to be wealthy with the intention that we may give in charity and gain reward from Allah (swt), the Prophet directs our attention to how Allah (swt) has provided many ways a believer can give in charity regardless of one’s situation in life. Remembering Allah (swt), benefiting others, and performing acts in a permissible way are all considered charity. Our concern should be seeking the Pleasure of Allah (swt) in as many ways as possible. The main message of this hadith is that many Companions were coming to the Prophet (sas) and saying they do not have the same opportunities as others when it comes to giving in charity. The Prophet (sas) corrects that understanding and expands on the definition of what it means to be a charitable person. There are many ways to worship Allah and gain His Pleasure and we should take advantage of all of these possibilities. If we do, then we will have the same potential to earn the reward of Allah (saw) as anyone else. Read more here 1 Like |

Islam for Muslims / Some Facts On Inisa Mosque Closure And Imamship Tussle by Lukgaf(m): 8:17am On Dec 08, 2023 |
It is no longer a news that a central mosque was rumored to be shut down due to an imamship tussle in Inisa, a town in Osun State. While some sources state it was closed three years ago, not five, it's crucial to address the misinformation circulating on the internet regarding the mosque. Professor Abdrozzaq Abdmajeed Alaro (HafidhohuLahu ta'ala) has provided clarifications and insights on the issue: 1. The mosque closure occurred three years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. Contrary to internet rumors, there was no involvement of juju (black magic) in front of the mosque. 3. The deaths of two imams, though coinciding with the imamship tussle, are likely unrelated. Given their age (70-80 years) and the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where many lives were lost, it appears coincidental. In conclusion, it is essential for Muslims to have a correct understanding of Islam. Allah is the ultimate decider of life and death, and no external factors can alter this reality. Mosques, being the houses of Allah, should not be closed down. May Allah reward those who stood up against this closure. Prof. Àlàro emphasized that death is inevitable when the appointed time approaches. Prof. Alaro also noted seeing a video where the king mediated and urged support for the imam with the highest majority. He clarified that this is not a recommended method of selecting an imam. Imam selection should be based on the memorization of the Qur'an, and if contestants are equal in this, the decision should turn to the Hadith (following the Sunnah). May Allah be with all Muslims in Inisa, granting them steadfastness, especially those leading the prayers now. 1 Like 1 Share |

Islam for Muslims / Re: Allah Forbids Oppression by Lukgaf(m): 7:52am On Dec 01, 2023 |
Commentary Summary from 40 Hadith Nawawih This hadith is a 'Hadith Qudsee', a Hadith where the Prophet (sas) narrated Allah’s (swt) words. This hadith stresses on the prohibition of all forms of injustice and oppression in Islam. It also encourages Muslims to seek guidance from Allah by means of supplication (du'a) and to rely solely on Allah, while highlighting Allah’s Glory and His inexhaustible treasures and bounties. Unlawful Oppression When Allah (swt) said, “I have made oppression unlawful for Me”, one might think of all the suffering, evil, and oppression that exists in the world. One might think, if Allah (swt) is Merciful, then why do these evil things occur? These things happen because Allah (swt) gave us free will and a choice to act according to what we think is right. We can deduce that it is human beings who choose to oppress one another, exercising their own free will. The forbidden injustices can occur in many forms. The most extreme form of injustice is al-shirk, or associating partners with Allah. The second form is injustice towards one own self, by committing sins. The third form is injustice towards others, human beings, and other creations alike. Muslims should strive to avoid injustice, as it displeases Allah (swt) and warrants His severe punishment. Allah is the Source of Guidance Allah (swt) is the source of all guidance. None of us can give guidance. We may attempt to show people the right path, but the true guidance comes from Allah (swt) alone. Guidance is a great mercy and blessingfrom Allah (swt). This guidance, in the form of the Qur'an, was revealed to us by Allah (swt) through His Messenger, Muhammad (sas). Allah (swt) showed us the right path to follow and warned us against Shaitan, who is our greatest enemy. Reciting Surah al-Fatihah every raka’ah reminds us of our extreme need for our Lord and His Guidance and Support. Allah is the Provider When it comes to material goods, Allah (swt) is the One who provides us with what we need: food, clothing, etc. The hadith shows the generosity of Allah (swt). The more we ask Him, the more He gives us. He wants us to come closer to Him by expressing our needs with humility. Allah (swt) said: "Do not seek sustenance from anyone other than Me, for verily all those others from whom you might seek sustenance have themselves been provided for by Myself. So seek sustenance from me and I will provide for you". Allah is always willing to forgive us Although we are constantly committing sins, Allah is constant in His Mercy and forgiveness. The door of repentance is always open for all. Allah (swt) acknowledges our weaknesses. People are always subject to wrongdoings. They may neglect or delay performing obligations or indulge in sins, but Allah (swt) is Oft-Forgiving and His door is open to all wrongdoers. If we do something wrong at night, we should come back to Him in the morning and vice versa. Allah’s Treasures and Bounties are Endless Allah’s treasures are inexhaustible, so do not let anyone think that what is with Allah will diminish by His giving. The Prophet (sas) has explained in another Hadith: "Allah's Hand is Full; it is not diminished by His giving all of the day and the night. Have you not seen that your Lord has been giving ever since He created the Heavens and the Earth, and all that has not diminished what is in His Hand by the least” (Bukhari). Accountability At the end of the hadith, it is mentioned and stressed that everyone will be accountable for their deeds. Whoever finds a good record, he should be thankful to Allah and praise Him for that. Anyone who finds other than that, should not blame anyone except himself. This is a clear statement that shows the personal responsibility we have for our actions. Conclusion In many verses of the Qur'an and in the Hadiths of the Prophet (sas), the importance of expressing our need with humility to Allah (swt) is very clear. We should also constantly repent to him. Allah (swt) is The All Hearing, He will listen to us and accept our supplication and repentance. We seek of Him; His mercy, blessings and pleasure. The pleasure of Allah (swt) is our ultimate goal, without which we will indeed be among the unfortunate of creations. We ask Allah (swt) to count us among the winners, the ones who have earned His pleasure (Amin). 6 Likes 1 Share |
