PoliticsRe: The Good Things In Nigeria Are Done By Muslims: Sheik Gumi by lukkie(m): 7:13am On Aug 14, 2012
I wonder why people stoop so low to give this knucklehead 'sheikh' any response. These are the criminals who incite violence and then run away to Saudi Arabia. Nigeria's problem is not that of religion but of oppressors and the oppressed. But they use religion to incite you because they know you're all very gullible.

CrimeRe: Banker Kills LASTMA Official In Lagos by lukkie(m): 2:02pm On Aug 11, 2012
flexyonline: The underlying cause of this incident is not being highlighted here. The root cause of this incident is the wicked and punitive nature of LCC that has that lekki-épée road concession. That mega chicken junction is a major entrance to an estate of over 1000 houses many of who their business takes them to VI for work as such will need to turn back towards chevron toll gate. What did LCC do? They put the turning about 20m after the junction and then the next one at VGC. Because people don't want to spend 30 mins to go and turn in VGC because of this same LCC traffic, they drive not on the main road (so it's not one way) but in front of the estate and get on the road opposite the turning to make that turn. This is where LASTMA officials hide to catch people. What I don't get is that LASG wants the people to conform to 21st century laws while they provide 19th century infrastructure. You don't have good roads or signs, no traffic cameras, no vehicle database and you want to enforce laws. For instance, if you contravene me for driving without seatbelt, how do you prove it? Word of mouth? Govt needs to get it's act right.

FYI I don't have any slightest sympathy for LASTMA. Sorry, to say but I'm not sad they are killed. I'm sorry really and feel bad for feeling this way but can't help it.
This is the truth. I always wonder how Ikota residents manage to come out in the morning. The "one way" situation at that spot is as a result of LCC's irresponsibilty & inefficiency.

I only pity the LASTMAn's family if he has any. They are simply untrained crooks who lay ambush for drivers in order to collect bribes. It happens on Lekki road everyday. If Fashola refuses to call them to order, drivers will keep killing them.
IslamRe: Kano Hisbah Detains Non-Fasting Muslims by lukkie(m):
PapaBrowne: Islam. Time is ticking. Unless there is some kind of change or perhaps quasi-modernization in the religion, the next natural line is extinction.
The children(especially the females) of the current generation would by virtue of the internet be exposed to other forms of worship and begin to ask questions.
Why is my religion the only one throwing bombs. Why are we the only ones that suppress women. Why are almost all our countries at some kind of war? Why is everything by force. Why don't we have any brilliant countries that create technologies or promote advancement?

As they grow older, Slowly and steadily they would begin to disconnect. They would pass that disconnection to their children and in a moment, the religion would begin to vanish from the surface of planet earth. Except the voice of peace in Islam gets louder than the voice of violence.

Islam as it is cannot survive freedom of existence. Liberal Muslims must as a matter of urgency take over the space and populate the air with a voice of peace in such a way that it drowns the voice of force and violence that has pervaded Islam in the last decade.

@Topic
It beat me how Kano state is able to run a quasi police force and at the same time feels like state police should not be followed through across Nigeria.
This is difficult to admit for an average muslim but you're absolutely right. Violence makes Islam less attractive everyday. But unfortunately, moderate muslims can't do much because the fanatics will turn against them (as some will turn against me here).

Religion is generally losing its lustre though. More people are realising that they can live happy lives without the complications of mass religion(ism). And you can't blame them because wherever you look, the story is not nice. It's either people killing innocents in God's name or people duping innocents in God's name, or worse. Meanwhile, the primary function of religion (making people better human beings) has been forgotten a long time ago.

Car TalkRe: Strange Selling Of Toyota Camry 2007/2008 Cars by lukkie(m): 2:11pm On Aug 06, 2012
Frankie9ice: Guy,...Toyotas r simply average cars. If in yor estimation u call Toyotas gud cars, pls wat wud u call a M/Benz or BMW wen u compare them year-for-year wit any Toyota? Does a Camry 2008 cum any where close to a M/Benz C-Class or E-Class (200,240,280,320, or 350) 2006-2008?
Toyotas r just affordable (u need not break d banks to own a brand new Toyota ),....whereas it different wit a Benz. The only tin Toyota sells is affordability!!!
God bless you. Toyota is just affordable. If we're to compare Toyota with Benz, maybe the 07 Camry with 1995 C-Class. LOL. Many people haven't driven any other cars beside Japanese.

For the person talking about 2000miles in 3days, long distance does not kill a car, it's stop & go traffic that strains the engine, transmission, brakes etc.
Car TalkRe: Strange Selling Of Toyota Camry 2007/2008 Cars by lukkie(m):
prince_onx: What do you mean by "Toyota went too far"? Which car is not "fragile" if I may quote you? I dont know of any plastic bumpers that will look supper pretty after few bashing! Even cars with brush guard (iron protectors) and metal bumpers get bashed too in Lagos. Nigerians are said to be among the most educated people in the world but sometimes am filed with doubt on how true that is when I hear us talk!
We easily condeme good brands and cars and jump from one car to the other like dumb people! Today it's Honda end of discussion, everybody including those that land rover can't get Into their streets will buy one! Tomorrow it's Honda Watin you talk, everybody including someone that sell cement that should be driving a heavy duty pickup will join too and buy one! After or even less than two years the car has gone to hell and back with service only when the owner plan to visit villa! everybody want to sell them and all this group will jump on another car (maybe Nissan pathfinder this time) and bum everybody including families of ten will buy it!
Folks our biggest problem are not this cars! And there are no such thing as "good for Nigerian roads"! We don't have roads! Even catapilar will die on our so called roads. What we need is good roads and genuine spare parts even if it's china! There are different qualities of China products that last and we also use them here in America. Second is maintenance! don't wait till November ending or early December to service your car because you wan go villa for Xmas! Change your oil when it's due for change! Most parts in your car has due periods of changing even if it's still good or work. Change suspension arms when it's recommended to change especially if you drive on naija road, change timing chain or belt when recommended to change! Same with oil, plugs, shocks, pad, etc! How many of you has ever serviced or flushed your transmission fluid?
Don't just sit and drive your belt way pass when due and when everybody's belt start breaking down all of you will call that car one bad name and run to the next brand and do the same thing! Abuse it!
You can make your point without insulting people.

And anybody who buys a N3m car and gives it to under-tree mechanic has himself to blame if anything happens to it.

Different people sell their cars for different reasons. But a lot of people got carried away by the Camry's good looks and later realised that it can't take the pounding they subject it to. Go to Ajah and see the car in different stages of dilapidation.

I'll take the pencil/fish light Camry 10 times before taking the muscle.
Car TalkRe: Strange Selling Of Toyota Camry 2007/2008 Cars by lukkie(m): 11:51pm On Aug 05, 2012
That car is very fragile. Toyota went too far with that one. And the bumpers are too weak for its size esp in this crazy Lagos. When you "bash" it once or twice, it looks like one big tuber of yam.

You guys are great, am taking delivery of the washer tomorrow. My wife has already heaped the dirty clothes. I paid 33k for it. Hope I have the same experience(worked well) you all had.
Nice one. Remember to buy washing powder too. Persil Colour is very good.
FamilyRe: I Want To Buy This Washing Machine For My Wife by lukkie(m): 10:50pm On Aug 02, 2012
I've used this type of machine for around 4 years and i can guarantee that it works very well. The clothes are even cleaner than i expect. It's very good for Nigerian environment cos of power and water supply challenges, unlike regular machines that require a constant water supply and have long wash & spin cycles. Just ensure to follow the instructions in the manual - very important for best results. It's also very strong - honestly i thought it won't last, being an LG. Samsung also has a similar model but with transparent top, which is equally good. My sister has a regular machine but had to buy this type recently cos of the long wash cycle problem.
Car TalkRe: Land Rover Freelander by lukkie(m):
@OP
Forget it, don't buy a Freelander. They're cute but not worth it. My neighbor bought one less than a year ago and it's given him a lot of issues. He towed it to Lagos from Benin Expressway last December. Don't say you're not warned bros. My advice,
If you want peace of mind, buy a Japanese car (just don't over-speed with it).
If you're rich, buy German.
If you want to pretend that you're rich, buy one of those "brand new" paper foil Korean cars.

@Ikenna

I like your insights. They make a lot of sense. Traveling on Nigerian roads is truly hell. Like you said, if you've been in an accident, it'll always determine the type of cars you buy. When i see people by those "paper foil" cars, i only SMH.
Car TalkRe: State Your 'auto Near Death Experience' And Why/how It Happened by lukkie(m): 5:09pm On Jul 26, 2012
I could only conclude that the guy was drunk because it was totally uncalled for. I was in the inside lane close to the barrier while he was coming from Adekunle and on the outside lane.

There were about 3 of them in the car and i suspected they were coming from a party. One other thing I learnt is that accidents happen so fast that you hardly remember what happened. The only thing I remember was the car spinning.
Car TalkRe: State Your 'auto Near Death Experience' And Why/how It Happened by lukkie(m): 11:06am On Jul 26, 2012
Talking about near-death experience, back in 2003, I was driving a Benz 190 to the island on third mainland bridge. Exactly at the Adekunle exit, out of nowhere this Toyota Tercel hatchback swerved into me. I was only lucky that I wasn't speeding. My front passenger side hit his rear driver side and the 2 cars spun. I was now facing the mainland. The engine was still running but it was very scary.

I was also lucky that being a Sunday morning there was not much traffic. That accident made me respect Benz cars especially the 190. The crash destroyed the back of the Toyota but there wasn't more than a small dent on the bumper of the Benz.
Car TalkRe: The Rise Of “Big For Nothing” (2002 – 2006 Toyota Camry) by lukkie(m): 10:51pm On Jul 25, 2012
Most people don't like it cos of its obesity. And the centre console is ugly - a waste of space. I think it's rather big for tight Lagos traffic. But it'll be good for cross-country travel. Same with its Avalon brother.
Car TalkRe: State Your 'auto Near Death Experience' And Why/how It Happened by lukkie(m): 10:44pm On Jul 25, 2012
Use the emergency brake (handbrake). That's what it's meant for. Though your car manual should tell you its limits.
Some people also say you should turn off the ignition while leaving the car in gear (manual tranny). I don't know about automatic though. Google will help if you really need expert advice.

Ronaldo200: You had better sell that Lumia quick. Nokia has announced already that the current Lumia will NOT be upgraded to the new Windows 8 operating system next year. It will therefore, effectively, be a defunct product stuck in the past.

That's why I love Apple and can't go back. Whenever they upgrade their OS they always do it retro-actively for the last three devices. I have been able to hand my 3GS down to my juniors and it is still up-to-date for them
Ok, i'll sell it to people on Mars. As if your Nairaland wisdom doesn't apply to whoever buys it. Thanks, but no thanks.

A new Lumia with Windows Phone 8 is coming out around October. The current Lumia 900 with WM 7.5 is for those who can't wait. And that will even be upgradable to 7.8 thereafter.

IMO, prostitution can never be justified. It's simply GREED & MORAL DECADENCE in the society. As bad as the economy is, there are so many other ways of hustling and surviving. But these girls want to "hit" it without legal hard work.
And for people justifying it, imagine your baby daughter as a grown up, sleeping with 10 men in a day, for money. It may be hard to imagine cos some of you are still kids, but you'll understand someday.
PoliticsBreaking News! Oshiomhole Wins By Landslide! by lukkie(op): 8:33am On Jul 15, 2012
SaharaReporters has ascertained from a top official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole is the winner of the Edo State governorship election.

With votes counted from 18 local governments in Edo State, Mr. Oshiomhole, the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), had garnered 477, 478 votes. His main rival, Major General Charles Airhiavbere (ret.) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 144,255 votes.

“It’s clear that the incumbent governor is going to win by a landslide,” said the INEC source, adding, “INEC is in the process of preparing a formal statement to declare him the winner.”

Some analysts regarded the July 14 election as a final proof of the political irrelevance of Tony Anenih, former chair of the PDP’s board of trustees who paraded himself as a kingmaker in the state. Mr. Oshiomhole trounced his PDP rival, handpicked by Mr. Anenih, in both the candidate’s ward as well as that of Mr. Anenih.

President Goodluck Jonathan had campaigned in Benin City for the losing PDP candidate. The president had also ordered the deployment of thousands of soldiers to major towns in Edo State in a bid to intimidate voters and shore up the PDP candidate. However, the people of the state trooped out in large number to ensure that Mr. Oshiomhole’s victory could not be stolen.

Reached moments ago, an aide to Governor Oshiomhole said the governor was grateful for the vigilance of the people to ensure that the voters triumphed over the PDP’s gimmicks. He added that the governor saw his victory as an indication that the people of Edo “have decisively rejected those who lie and kill for the sake of power.”

Olaitan Oyerinde, the governor’s private secretary and one of his closest aides, was murdered by assassins suspected to have been hired by PDP henchmen in the state.

Governor Oshiomhole was declared winner by INEC's returning officer Prof. Osayuki Oshodi at exactly 7:40 Am Nigerian time
