Match preview and build up ----->>>>>> Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Ludogorets on Wednesday ended a four-game losing streak for Brendan Rodgers’ side in all competitions. It was also the first time since beating Swansea City at the end of October that the Reds had scored more than one goal in a game. A surprise defeat at Crystal Palace last weekend leaves Liverpool five points off the UEFA Champions League places and only four points above the relegation zone. Stoke City’s inconsistent season continued with a surprise loss at home to Burnley. Team News Liverpool Daniel Sturridge is due back next month whilst Mario Balotelli could return this weekend after missing the last two matches with a groin injury. However, the Italian is still without a Premier League goal for Liverpool and Rickie Lambert has scored early goals as his replacement in the starting lineup over the past two games. Defenders Mamadou Sakho, José Enrique and Jon Flanagan all continue to be sidelined. The Liverpool defence has kept just two clean sheets in 19 games in all competitions this season. Stoke City Mark Hughes has one of the longest injury lists to deal with heading into the final weekend of November. Asmir Begović, Phil Bardsley and Geoff Cameron have all missed training this week due to a sickness bug, making the three first-teamers a doubt for Saturday’s match at Anfield. They have already been without Robert Huth all season and the German is not due back this weekend either. Both Erik Pieters and Marc Wilson are expected to return after missing last weekend’s defeath, otherwise Hughes would be very short of options at the back. Former Liverpool loanee Victor Moses has been ruled out until the New Year with a thigh injury, Glenn Whelan is also injured and Oussama Assiadi is unable to face his former club. Striker Peter Odemwingie is also injured, but Hughes does have Peter Crouch, Mame Biram Diouf and Bojan all available up front. Predicted Lineups We’ve gone with a recall of Alberto Moreno at left-back and Glen Johnson back at right-back after switching the defence resulted in three goals conceded at Crystal Palace last weekend. Surely Rickie Lambert maintains his place up front whilst this is Brendan Rodgers’ favourite midfield personnel. Whichever back four starts for Stoke this weekend they have not had much training together over the past week or so due to injuries. They have a powerful duo in front of the back four who may want to slow the pacey Raheem Sterling and skilful Philippe Coutinho down. Charlie Adam hasn’t played a lot recently but we think he’ll start against his former club. Key Matchups Rickie Lambert vs Marc Wilson The Stoke City centre-back has only played 25 minutes in the past two games combined due to a hamstring injury. If Marc Wilson is indeed fit to start this one he should be tested and tested early up against Rickie Lambert who has scored in the opening eight minutes of each of Liverpool’s past two games. Raheem Sterling vs Steven N’Zonzi Raheem Sterling has certainly lost his form over the past month or so but his pace could be a great weapon in this match. The Stoke City defence isn’t the quickest in the world so the England international may fancy his chances of doing some dodgy by either running at them or running onto a through ball. We should at least be able to expect Sterling to win some free kicks in opposition territory if nothing else comes off for him. Peter Crouch vs Martin Škrtel Stoke City’s joint-top scorer this season has to fancy his chances of scoring against his former club this weekend. Peter Crouch may have only three goals this season but the home side have kept only two clean sheets and have been poor at defending set pieces also. Can the visitors score? Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Stoke City With the injuries and illnesses in the Stoke City camp this is a great opportunity for Liverpool to get their first win of November. Admittedly they were playing in Bulgaria on Wednesday but the Potters could be without a whole host of defenders and are one of the league’s lowest-scoring teams. |

ASUU Is Fighting Me Because I Stopped Fraud In LASU – Obafunwa Posted by starconnect November 24, 2014 – Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. John Obafunwa has reacted to recent attacks on him by LASU chapter of the Academic Staff Union of University(ASUU) stressing that the lecturers are angry with him because he stopped leakages in the system. The local chapter of ASUU had at a press conference accused the VC of victimizing lecturers that partook in the unrest that forced the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to reduce tuition in the school to N25,000. Speaking at the weekend, the VC said it was his crusade against graft and fraud that has pitched him against members of ASUU whom he said had inflated impress adding that the Senate opted to withdraw the PhD certificates in question since some were awarded in error. “It may sound hilarious but part of the problem is the Nigeria mentality as regards stomach infrastructure. But it is easy to understand why some people will not be happy, we also have people who understand and are willing to see a change. “ Most of the things that happen have to do with the fact that many people are no longer benefiting from the leakages, but I really thank those who have continued to stay by the administration,” he stated. Obafunwa said those fighting against him were those who are against change. “Some people would want to resist it, particular when it appeared you are blocking certain avenues. When I came in, about N13 million was being expended every month on impress and I know some people who don’t have to wait for their salaries, they just have to depend on the impress. “By the time I finished my analysis within the first month, the impress to the office of the VC reduced by 66 percent; office of the VC, including at that time office of the Deputy VC, Internal Audit, Academic Planning one or two other areas, I cut the impress down by 66 percent. “I know fuel allowance was being collected for a vehicle that was actually off the road, I know a particular unit at that time where a particular director was collecting N610,000 monthly and we were able to run the same unit with N90,000,” he said. The VC explained that the Senate and not his office that is investigating PhD certificates issued to 19 graduates in error adding that his administration has not victimised anybody but that the Senate insisted on doing the right thing. According to him, the whole issue came to the fore because a woman lecturer came directly to the senate and complained that she was awarded PhD in a programme she did not enrol for, specifically she said what she enrolled for was M Phil PhD in International Business but she was awarded PhD in Business Administration (Marketing) and that woman refused to collect the certificate. “I did not even know anything about it. When it came to the fore, we now asked a question, what happened? She came to Senate and not to me and Senate directed the Dean of Postgraduate School and Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences to go and bring all the materials of the PhD that were awarded in the last three to four years to be looked at. Then they came with 19 and not actually 14. “Senate spent about three hours debating this particular issue and senators were able to categorise everything into about three groups. Group one were about eight lecturers who had no problem, although, senate decided that they will like to see their certificates of conversions and what they were admitted for in the first instance. “These people were straightforward, they were giving PhD in the areas they enrolled for, thy just wanted the documentation. You have two other groups; one group, senate considered to have some mild problems and another one, a very serious problem. Senate now decided to look at the document presented and discovered that it gave approval in 2004 for the postgraduate programme-M Phil PhD Business Administration; M Phil PhD Management and M Phil PhD in International Business. These were the three. “You now have people being giving PhD in Business Administration (Management) double honour; PhD Business Administration (International Business) and senate decided to bring the letters offering them admission into these programmes. Obafunwa said lecturers in the third category were those bagging PhD in Business Administration (Marketing), saying that there is no programme approved for marketing, neither was there any PhD programme approved for Marketing. “What you don’t have, you cannot give. Off course, senate decided that we have to withdraw all these certificates, those that are cleared will get their certificates; areas of double honour will be streamlined and those that do not exist at all will be withdrawn completely and let people do what they need to do to earn that thing. “So, it was not a case of victimisation of any particular group. Initially, everything was borne out of one person who refused to collect her degree. I will be grateful to that person, otherwise, nobody would have known anything. “Could all these have happened without some level of compromise from within? The answer is yes. We are also looking at that, I don’t want the impression to be giving that we are focusing on people who might have benefited from one way or the other from it; no, we are also looking at the system, why should this happened? Who and who allows this to happen?” , he said. http://starconnectmedia.com/2014/11/24/ASUU-is-fighting-me-because-i-stopped-fraud-in-lasu-obafunwa/ |

Liverpool know that anything but a win against Ludogorets on Wednesday evening could see them eliminated from this season’s Champions League. If the Reds fail to pick up maximum points in Sofia and Basel win at home against Real Madrid, who are already confirmed as group winners, then qualification will be out of reach for Brendan Rodgers’ side. That would cap off a dire November for Liverpool in which they have lost all four games to date. That includes their last European outing in Madrid when a much-changed side put in a respectable performance but still lost 1-0 to the defending champions. That was the third Champions League match in a row in which Liverpool failed to score and they can ill afford to fire another blank in Bulgaria. Brendan Rodgers is adamant he will have his team ready for the challenge, despite recent disappointments. "If we dwell too much on the weekend there is no way we could go out and play," he said, referring to the 3-1 Premier League loss at Crystal Palace. "It is about getting confidence into players, talking with players, ensuring the environment at the training ground is still a happy place to be. My job as the leader of the team and the club is vital. We will always experience disappointment but no matter how you feel you are one of the pillars of the football club. "The players are looking to you for that response and ability to motivate and that is very important in my role." Although Ludogorets are the minnows in Group B, they have impressed at home so far, beating Basel 1-0 and taking an early lead against Real Madrid before losing 2-1. They also came close to snatching a point at Anfield in September, only for an injury- time Steven Gerrard penalty to rescue a 2-1 win for the Reds. Anything other than victory for Ludogorets on Wednesday evening would see them eliminated from the group, while Liverpool must match or better Basel’s result against Madrid to keep their hopes of qualification alive. If Liverpool lose it would be their fifth defeat in a row in all competitions, their worst run since 1953. Team news With Daniel Sturridge out until the new year and Mario Balotelli not travelling due to a groin injury, Rickie Lambert looks likely to again lead the Liverpool line after netting his first goal for the club against Crystal Palace on Sunday. The former Southampton striker has played only nine minutes in the Champions League as a substitute against Basel but could now be key to Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying. Jordan Henderson is expected to be fit after missing the Palace defeat due to illness while Mamadou Sakho, Suso and Jose Enrique have travelled to Bulgaria after returning to training following injuries. Jon Flanagan is not available as he recovers from a knee problem. Ludogorets will be without Ivan Cvorovic due to a shoulder injury but will be hoping Dani Abalo, who has scored four goals in the last five league matches, can continue his fine goalscoring form. The Bulgarian side come into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw at league leaders PFC CSKA Sofia on Saturday. Opta facts In the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League, Liverpool found themselves in an identical position in the second group stage with three points after four matches. They still managed to qualify as group runners-up with seven points. Liverpool have lost six of their 12 Premier League games this season. They lost six times in the whole of 2013/14. The Reds' record in Bulgaria is W3 D0 L1. That solitary defeat came when, as defending champions, they lost 2-0 at PFC CSKA Sofia (1-2 aggregate) in the 1981/82 European Champion Clubs' Cup quarter-finals. Ludogorets have won nine out of 13 on their own turf this season, including victories in each of their last four home games. http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/325387/preview |
