Derby defender Ryan Shotton is suspended for the visit of Chelsea after his red card in Saturday's defeat against Middlesbrough. Shotton's absence could see Jake Buxton start at centre back alongside Richard Keogh. Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is available again after suspension but defender Gary Cahill will be rested. Keeper Petr Cech is set to deputise for Thibaut Courtois, who missed Saturday's win over Hull with a muscular injury. Derby manager Steve McClaren is under no illusions about the size of the task facing the Rams in their League Cup quarter-final with Chelsea. Despite it being over 40 years since they met in the League Cup, a 2-0 FA Cup reverse on home soil in January is fresh in the memory for McClaren - who believes the Blues are a "complete team". "Chelsea are better than last season and they weren't too bad then, were they? Jose knew there was something missing, he's got it sorted in the summer," said McClaren. "Football is all about recruitment and he's done that very well. They've progressed. They are the complete team who can adapt to anything against any opponents. It's going to be a great night under lights in front of a full house." While the history books paint a depressing picture for Derby - eight games without a win against Chelsea - the League Cup quarter- finals have been something of a recent stumbling block for the Blues. Three of their last four quarter-finals have ended in defeat, including last season's 2-1 reverse at Sunderland. But defeat is a foreign concept for Jose Mourinho's side this season - their only loss coming against Newcastle on 6 December. The Portuguese has said Chelsea's European- based players will enjoy a two-day break after Tuesday's clash to have "a nice dinner with their families". The Premier League leaders versus the Championship high-fliers - a tasty prospect. Head-to-head Chelsea won the last meeting between these sides 2-0 at Derby in last season's FA Cup third round. The Blues are unbeaten in their last eight matches with Derby (W7, D1), with an aggregate score of 25-4. Derby's last victory was a 3-1 home win in October 1999. It is over 42 years since these sides met in the League Cup, Chelsea winning a third-round replay 3-2 in October 1972. Derby Derby have won four of their last six matches. They have twice reached the semi-finals of the League Cup, in 1968 and 2009. The Rams are the leading goalscorers in this year's League Cup (10 - along with Bournemouth and MK Dons) Chris Martin has scored five goals in his last six League Cup games. Johnny Russell has been involved in four goals (two goals, two assists) in Derby's four League Cup games this season. Chelsea Chelsea have won the League Cup on four occasions, most recently in 2007. They were eliminated at this stage last season, losing 2-1 to eventual finalists Sunderland. The Blues have only lost one of their 26 matches this season (W19, D6, L1). Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 16 League Cup ties against lower-division opposition (W14, D2), a run that stretches back to a 1-0 home defeat to Huddersfield in 1999. Didier Drogba has scored seven goals in his last eight League Cup games. http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/30390347 |

rsene Wenger is keen to draw inspiration from happier trips to Liverpool on Sunday as his Arsenal side return to the place where they suffered a 5-1 defeat last season. Liverpool raced into a 4-0 half-time lead at Anfield in February, before Raheem Sterling added a fifth seven minutes after the interval with his second goal of the contest. Arsenal had won three of their previous four trips to visit Liverpool before last season's thrashing, however, and Wenger wants to banish memories of the most recent visit and kick-start what promises to be a busy Christmas period. "Every defeat hurts and every defeat is a scar in your heart forever, but we also have very good memories at Liverpool," he said. "We won many games at Liverpool as well and, even last year when we lost against them, a week later against the same team we won 2-1 at home in the FA Cup. "We want to have continuity. It is a very important period now. Over the Christmas period, we play four Premier League games. At Christmas we'll come back strongly in the league, I am sure. "When you get over the hill in January, you look towards the end [of the season], and how you come out of the Christmas period is of course very important." Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers also looking to overcome adversity following a disappointing start to the season, having guided his team to just two wins from their last seven home fixtures in all competitions. With that in mind, the Northern Irishman is intent on picking up a morale-boosting victory on Sunday against a Gunners side who enjoyed an impressive victory against Newcastle United last weekend. "Internally, it will continue our spirit and our focus," he said. "They [Arsenal] did OK at home last week as well. They won 4-1, played really well against Newcastle, but we'll be looking to focus on our game. "They've got outstanding players, but the focus will be on ourselves and looking to bring our game in an important game." Liverpool will be without striker Mario Balotelli, who is banned for one match following a post on social media, while Glen Johnson (groin), and Daniel Sturridge (thigh) also miss out. Dejan Lovren is a doubt after coming off with a groin injury during Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final victory at Bournemouth. Arsenal, meanwhile, are having to cope with a lengthy list of casualties, with Jack Wilshere (ankle), Mesut OzIl (knee), Laurent Koscielny (calf), Mikel Arteta (calf), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Tomas Rosicky (thigh) and Serge Gnabry (knee) all missing. Theo Walcott could feature after returning to training earlier this week, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal may also be involved after recovering from injuries http://m.premierleague.com/en-gb/matches/2014-2015/epl.match-preview.html/liverpool-vs-arsenal |
