yemmit90: This's what many graduates keep saying. Do you think people will tell you if they are making real money from their business? Or do you think hard working business man will like to lend his money to a lazy guy who cannot use his head to think of what to do other than his certificate?

The truth is that, jobs are scarce compare to those that are looking for it. If there are enough jobs, there won't be a reason for favourism etc.

As for where a broke graduate will get money to start something, manyaàa us know how to source money for university education,Msc,PhD,Ican, law school and others costly professional exams but cannot find money to do business?
where is the money ? let me tell you. There was a time I do advertise shoes online and later , I was In a distress and that crippled it.

tosag: And yet some PDP praise-singers are praising the govt. in one other thread saying that only one-third of Nigerians are poor. The fact is that Nigeria needs cleansing in all aspect of life. Could you imagine, a dude in my neighbourhood who couldn't complete his diploma programme just bought a laptop and went into full-time yahoo business. In less than 2 years this guy has build a house and bought a car. In Nigeria today, people who want to make it the right way hardly make it.
1/3 of Nigerians are poor ? I laugh in arabic.. Give me job and we will share my first six month salary 50:50 .. course : Accounting 2.1 ... pm for any offer.

slap1: At least once or twice a week, I regret the time I spent(wasted?) in the university. My mates now have cars and houses and I have only my modest intelligence and a few other things which are not really valuable in this clime.
Now I have an offer to write aptitude test for a potential law student for 20k. I turned it down. The offer is still on the table, together with an assurance of safety from being caught... and I'm gravitating towards accepting. Wetin man go do?
The scariest part of this quagmire is that there is NO HOPE!
However, I will control myself and make use of my talent.

Desric: While waiting for Nigerian youths/graduates to speak up, act or revolt against the Govt, I bet you that that one is not gonna come, we are too comfortable with managing our situation with hope, faith, and believe that God will do something someday "Suffering and smiling" in Fela's voice, as you can see, every night in our churches is for tarry nights, fasting and praying for either our enemies to die or for a miracle job so already, we've conceded that Govt is not responsible for our woes, rather we blame our enemies or sometimes you hear things like "Nigerian graduates are not employable". In fact, there are a lot excuses to justify the rising situation of unemployment in our country just to exonerate those saddle with the responsibility otherwise how can you justify spending 4/5/6yrs as the case maybe in a tertiary institution only to be trained or advice to take up a small skill acquisition program to help yourself instead of waiting for white collar jobs which are no where to be found? The question remains, why then did you go to school to spend your time and resources in the first instance instead of going straight to acquire skills with all the yrs you spent maybe you'd have become an expert in whatever skill by the time you graduated.
We are still Lil-livered Nigerian youths divided along several lines as we've chosen to justify it to be united to address common issues.
You just hit the nail on the head. Why wasting years and burning candles to get 2.1 only to preach skill acquisition for you after school and the promoter of this skill acquisition campaign will connect his or her wards to a job through nepotism. God help us all.

2.1 is now pure water.

Match preview

Liverpool play the first match of their
USA tour in the early hours of Thursday
morning (00.30 UK) when they take on
Italian side AS Roma at Fenway Park.
Brendan Rodgers ’ men visit Boston, home of
club owners Fenway Sports Group, for the
second time in three seasons where they’ll
play Roma in the first of four games on
their USA trip, which also includes matches
against AC Milan, Manchester City and
Olympiakos.
Liverpool faced Roma two years ago as the
Reds embarked on a first pre-season trip to
the United States under FSG, a game in
which the Italians ran out 2-1 winners at
Fenway Park, the same venue in which the
fixture will be played on Thursday
morning.
Charlie Adam scored for Liverpool ten
minutes from time that day for Rodgers’
side, grabbing a consolation goal after
Michael Bradley and Alessandro Florenzi
handed Roma a 2-0 lead.
Team News
Brendan Rodgers has named a large but
highly talented 33-man squad for the pre-
season trip which features all of the
returning World Cup participants except
Mamadou Sakho and Simon Mignolet , who
will join the tour at a slightly later date
instead due to a prolonged World Cup
campaign.
The Reds will depart for the
United States on Sunday
afternoon (July 20). They’ll
later be joined by Sakho and
Mignolet in Chicago. #lfc

July 17, 2014
All of the current new signings are included
and will feature for Liverpool on the tour
which will see Adam Lallana commence his
Liverpool duties along with fellow
newcomer Lazar Markovic, who was
present at the Reds last outing at Preston
but didn’t feature in the match.
The opening tour fixture is set to come too
early for transfer targets Loic Remy and
Dejan Lovren, even though reports continue
to indicate that deals for both players are
close to being finalised, with French striker
Remy flying out to join up with the
Liverpool party to undergo a medical.
With the fixture being the first of the trip
and senior players back in the fold, the
match is once again likely to see Rodgers
utilise the depth of the squad available and
use a whole host of players throughout the
90 minutes, as he eases the international
players and new signings into the set-up.
However, while the senior players settle
back in to proceedings, the exciting Jordon
Ibe and Kristoffer Peterson will be looking
to carry on their impressive early pre-
season form as they hope to force their way
into the managers’ immediate thoughts for
the season ahead.
All of the squad appear injury free and at
Rodgers’ disposal for the friendly but new
midfield enforcer Emre Can, who has
missed training in Boston, is set to miss the
game after being withdrawn just 20 minutes
into his first Liverpool outing at Deepdale
last Saturday.
Plus, I was of course talking
absolute cobblers when I said
earlier Emre Can wasn’t on the
tour. He just didn’t train this
morning. — James Pearce
(@JamesPearceEcho) July 21,
2014
It’s unlikely that any of the World Cup
players will be involved in the match,
definitely not from the start, given that they
only started training on Monday.
The Opposition
Manager Rudi Garcia, who joined the club
in June 2013, guided Roma to their best
league season in four years in his debut
season in charge, setting a new record
points total for the club and finishing
runners-up in Serie A, therefore qualifying
automatically for the oncoming Champions
League group stage.
The Giallorossi squad features house-hold
names throughout such as Francesco Totti
and Danielle De Rossi and also boasts a
number of familiar names to Premier
League followers including ex-Arsenal man,
Gervinho, former Man City right back,
Maicon, ex-Fulham full back, Urby
Emanuelson as well as two previously
linked and reported Liverpool targets Kevin
Strootman and recently signed ex-Chelsea
left back, Ashley Cole.
Garcia’s team also consists of some top
European talent alongside the senior squad
figures, including Adam Ljajic, Miralem
Pjanic and exciting new signing Juan
Manuel Iturbe, who joined last week from
Verona for a reported £17.4million and the
Argentine could make his first appearance
in a Roma shirt in the match.
The game, which will be shown live on BT
Sport, also represents the first of four pre-
season tour fixtures for Roma, who also
take on Manchester United, Inter Milan and
Real Madrid.

Politics › Breaking News : ASUU Lasu Call Off Strike by luvola(op): 7:54pm On Jul 21, 2014
LASU Campus
Gboyega Akinsanmi in Lagos and Damilola
Oyedele
The Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU) of the Lagos State University (LASU)
has finally called off a six-week-old strike,
which it embarked on since May 20.
This came as the Colleges of Education
Academic Staff Union (COEASU) also
suspended its nine-month-old strike in
principle, following the intervention by the
Chairmen of Governing Councils of Federal
Colleges of Education and assurances that
the outstanding issues would be resolved.
LASU’s lecturers’ decision to call off the
strike was contained in a letter to the
institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of
its Governing Council, Mr. Olabode Agusto,
yesterday.
Copies of the letter were sent to the
institution’s governor and visitor, Mr.
Babatunde Fashola (SAN), the Commissioner
for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye and
her establishment counterpart, Mrs. Florence
Oguntuase, among others.
The letter, which was signed by the
institution’s ASUU Chairman, Dr. Kunle Idris,
said the chapter’s congress reviewed the
strike it embarked upon on May 20 and
decided to suspend it.
After the congress deliberated on a letter the
institution’s governing council sent to it last
Friday, the lecturers said the congress agreed
to suspend the strike in the interest of all.
The letter read in part: “The congress of ASUU
LASU met on July 14, and reviewed the strike
action it embarked upon on May 20. After
exhaustive deliberation on the council’s letter
ref: LASU/PRO-CHAN/ASUU/31, dated July
11, the congress took some decisions.
“The congress suspended the strike action
but resolved that discussions on the
outstanding issues identified by members
should be continued by the executive
members.
The congress said the letters and spirit of the
resolutions reached by the university, its
appointments and promotions committee and
the governing council shall hold.
“This letter, therefore, serves to notify the
governing council and the university
administration that the academic staff of
LASU has, effective from July 14, resumed the
teaching aspect of their duties.”
Before the suspension of the strike, ASUU had
met with the management of the school on
July 2 and certain resolutions were reached.
The parties at the meeting agreed that in the
area of promotion, it is an ongoing exercise,
and any academic staff meriting promotion
shall be so promoted, following established
procedures;
The meeting noted that some of the
outstanding promotion cases had earlier been
taken and that all other outstanding cases of
promotion should be forwarded to the
University Appointments and Promotions
(Academic) Committee according to
established procedures.
Meanwhile, the suspension of COEASU’s
strike would however be upheld following
tomorrow’s meeting with the Minister of
Education, Alhaji (Ibrahim Shekaru) with
officials of the union.
The Chairman of the Committee of Council
Chairmen of the Federal COEs, Senator
Emmanuel Anosike, reading from the
resolutions reached at the end of a five hour
meeting in Abuja Tuesday noted that the
union agreed that the government had met a
reasonable number of its demands.
“The union has agreed to suspend its strike in
principle subject to the following: that there
would be no victimisation of its members and
salaries with held would be paid,” he said.
The resolutions also noted that the circular
for the migration of lower cadre staff in the
COEs would be released immediately, while a
technical committee would be set up to look
into the resolution of other matters.
THISDAY, following talks with Anosike and
the President of COEASU, Asagha Okoro, had
exclusively reported last week that the strike
would be suspended yesterday.
The meeting was convened at the instance of
the Chairmen of Governing Councils of COEs,
and the Committee of Provosts, to brainstorm
on the way forward to ensure the strike is
called off this week.
It had in attendance the officials of the
National Commission for Colleges of
Education (NCCE), COEASU and NASU
executive members.
The National Chairman of COEASU, Mr. Okoro
Asagha, while addressing the meeting, said
the union was concerned that its members
resume work with motivation.
“We should not go on strike before we get
things done. Issues such as needs
assessment, and migration of staff for which
a presidential circular already exists, should
be taken care of before any union goes on
strike,” he said.
“Once we tie all these loose ends...we will
just dot the ‘I’s and cross the ‘t’s. This is the
determinant week, I am sure we would all go
home smiling,” he said.
