As the campaign for the 2023 general elections officially commenced on Wednesday, the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has hinted that the manifesto of his party, which he said would be launched very soon would be anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the issue of security, unity of the country, revamping the economy amongst others.
Obi, who spoke on ARISE News Prime Time, said his party’s manifesto was “95% ready”, explaining that his group was working with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to fine-tune it along the Charter Demand of labour because, “Labour interest is critical, and we want to bring it into our manifesto and protect same.”
Speaking during a one-on-one interview, the Labour Party candidate claimed he has what it takes to solve Nigeria’s challenges and expressed confidence that he would emerge president come 2023 because what Nigerians are looking for now is someone they can trust. This, he said, was exactly what he is selling to Nigerians today.
Giving a breakdown of his manifesto, Obi said, “our manifesto is anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals” and that the key issues are “security, uniting the country, ensuring that our cohesion comes back to what it used to be, issues of Rule of Law, Law and order, fighting corruption, making the country productive, creating jobs amongst others”.
According to the presidential hopeful, the issue of security was something his administration would deal with “decisively” if elected because every other thing revolves around it. Part of his strategy would be the introduction of multi-level policing from the local governments to the state and then the federal level and the review of the entire security apparatus.
Obi disclosed that he has met with various stakeholders on the security issue, “done detailed study and compared with other nations of the world.”
On the issue of corruption, Obi assured that he would not waste his time running after alleged corrupt Nigerians or government officials but would focus on blocking leakages, just as he described the current fuel subsidy payment as an “organised crime”, which his administration would end if elected. He also disclosed plans for modular refineries to increase local production of fuel.
Apart from restructuring the security system of the country and the economy, the Labour Party presidential candidate further assured that he would initiate constitutional restructuring after issues of insecurity and poverty had been resolved, saying, “we need to restructure the country, this one will happen, I believe in it and it is in the interest of the whole nation.”
Obi noted that being a democratic system of government, his administration would initiate a conversation on the issue, and engage Nigerians in dialogue to get their support.
On how his administration would survive the huge debt burden if elected into office, Obi reiterated that the strategy would be to move Nigeria from being a consumption to a production nation, noting that when the majority of the people are empowered revenue will increase.

Wike might be fighting for the South but it was his greed that cost the South the ticket of PDP. The initial plan of PDP was to micro- zone her ticket to SE. Wike insited that the ticket should be zone to the entire south. Since SS and SW have produce presidents under PDP, the NE and Atiku began to make legitimate claim to the ticket. PDP had no choice at this point than to throw her ticket open hence giving Atiku the chance to win. Without Wike, Atiku would have had no choice than to back Obi who later left in frustration when it becomes clear that Atiku will win.

Denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights, to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamoring for.
That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems " solution to the national question. If the katsina situation conferring advantages on some, in the face of commonly faced existential threats, it means that our unitary policing system, which has failed, is a deliberate method of subjugation which must be challenged.
The Independence agreement was based on a democratic arrangement to have a federal state and devolved internal security mechanics. We must go back to that agreement. Denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the Southwest to life-threatening marauders and organized crime. It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It is an existential threat.
We want to reiterate, that what is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander. Ondo State government under the doctrine of necessity have decided to fulfil its legal, constitutional and moral duty to the citizens of the State, by acquiring arms to protect them. This is more so, given that the bandits have an unchecked access to sophisticated weapons. The State government cannot look on while its citizens are being terrorized and murdered with impunity. These people have long maintained that the former governor of Lagos State never attended university, but alas, their candidate, whom they hold in such high regard, could only present a GCE report.
This does not imply that Peter Obi never attended university; it is unfortunate that Obidient people are intentionally misinformed or enjoy mischief. According to the electoral law, all you need to present is proof that you sat for your school set and nothing else.
Tinubu was the governor of Lagos State, and some say he was a bad administrator who did nothing for the state. However, the entire state of Anambra, where Peter Obi was also the governor for eight years, cannot compete with just one council like Ikeja Local Government Area or Etin Osa in Lagos, and yet you dismiss Tinubu's administration while hailing Obi's. It is like comparing Nigeria with Burundi.
You accuse Tinubu of corruption despite the fact that the EFCC claims Tinubu is the most investigated politician in Nigeria, with no evidence of criminality found on him, and this is a man who was investigated while the opposition was in power.
And when they bring up Peter Obi and Pandora's papers scandal, you start cursing the person saying he loves to "SUFFER" without providing any explanation for what happened. Meanwhile, there hasn't been a single paper filed against Tinubu.
You claim to have seen a bullion van in Tinubu's house even though he has since left power, but when they question you about the over 200 million found on Obi's aide's possession, which he claimed was on Obi's orders, you suddenly turn mute like ODIN (deaf and dumb)
You claimed that Tinubu was not a graduate of Chicago State University, and now that INEC has released a list on which Obi's university was not included, you continue to defend and denigrate those who support Tinubu who is a confirmed Alumni of Chicago State University.
Take note that these people were produced by the system; Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, and others were once government officials, so they have a history to evaluate their performance. You don't want us to campaign on Tinubu's accomplishments as Lagos State Governor, and you mention Obi leaving billions in Anambra, which all successive governments after Obi has denied.
Obi never left a legacy of continuity in Anambra, and you don't want Nigerians to look at another man who left a legacy of continuity in Lagos, the results of which we can all see today.
