Foreign AffairsRe: Bill Clinton's Speech At The 2012 DNC & The Nigerian Experience by MacDaddy01: 2:12pm On Sep 06, 2012
Evil Brain: If you read OP's post to the end, you'll see that he's trying to claim that GEJ's agenda is not that different from Obama/Clinton's abd that he is trying to empower the masses. Unfortunately, this cannot be farther from the truth. The fact is that whenever there has been a clash between the interests if the masses and those of the corrupt ruling class, GEJ has sided against the people every single time.

He allowed subsidy cheats to rob the country blind for over 2 years and when the government eventually got broke, he decided to make the masses pay the bill instead of going after the thieves. Even after the January mass protests forced his hand, he's still dragging his feet over prosecuting the these people (all of whom are well known to him).

He's an Ijaw man, yet he has done nothing to rein in the excesses of the oil companies in the Niger Delta. In fact, after the last major oil spill, his oil minister was practically leading Shell's defence and the government completely accepted the company's damage estimate without question to the shock of international environmental groups. When those same environmental groups caught Shell lying about the amount of oil they spilled, GEJ's government did nothing.

Even though the government is barely solvent, he's done next to nothing to reduce the insane allowances government officials get, to trim the number of useless staff or cut the bloated recurrent expenditure budget. Instead, he raised income taxes earlier this year, and instituted a series of clever schemes to milk more money out ordinary people such as the CBN's "cash-free" fines (a thinly disguised tax on individuals and businesses), the pointless new number plates and so on.

From where I'm standing, every accusation the US Democrats have made against the republicans also applies to GEJ, only 10 times worse. The republicans tax the poor and give to the rich, while GEJ gives the rich a licence to pillage all they want.

You tell me which is worse.
I love you men.

The big oil companies have sucked Nigeria dry and our govt has been paid to shut up. How a black man can look at the suffereing of his fellow brothers and not care is beyond me. The few individuals and organisations that run the oil industry in Nigeria run free from regulation. Our oil is bunkered and sold to foriegn entities from the shores of the Niger-Delta, many of which are off the books. Such transactions are even done with Navy escort.

Bill clinton's speech is against people like our Government officials. Greedy idiots that want to satisfy the few rich and themselves. Clinton himself is not pure but his statements still ring true.

See what happens when you cut and paste? You give douch£s like Vedaxcool the opportunity to play the islamic victim and also give him a chance to argue and claim that islam is great.

When you make an original argument, you put religionists on the back-foot.

Your statement is only valid assuming that the family marries within themselves. Yes.

Bludeville: I'll be frank with you , Nigerians are not 'open-minded' enough for that kind of thing. All they would do is point fingers and scream that you're the devil. I respect a man's choice and support when a person refuses to pray or believe in the existence of a higher power and for that, most people view me as a devil's spawn and possessed even though I'm a christian. I wonder what would happen to an atheist if he/she walked into my circles. They would sprinkle holy water, raise crucifixes and shout incantations at you tongue tongue tongue
I 100% agree with your assessment of the situation. However, if we keep living in fear, when will a change come?
Christianity EtcRe: Would A Formal Christian Vs Atheist Debate Make Sense In Nigeria/lagos? by MacDaddy01(op): 8:45am On Sep 06, 2012
Delafruita: it sounds good.however, what platform do you intend to employ to achieve this?one lone debate might be ineffective in making atheism acceptable.a good debate might bring personal satisfaction especially when its won, however, the focus should be on the thousands and millions who cant "come out of the closet" of religion to embrace atheism or agnosticism.i prefer to lump both up with the term "humanism" but despite that,a lot of people despite their doubts about religion are afraid of the stigma that would be attached to them if they turn their backs on organized religion.a friend once left islam and embraced ifa worship which resulted in his father disowning him.when the father died, the dude wasnt allowed to attend his burial despite been the first child.

if you want to make a mark, then focus should be on making all religion and even irreligion acceptable.atheists should be free to express themselves and humanism should be freely practised.sometimes,it helps to create a movement or organization of humanists(though i think some exist) so as to create a forum where humanists can face up to their belief without stigmatisation
Thanks for the ideas.

CrazyMan: Wao Mr Anony would be coming...this sure would be a hell of a debate.

If I may ask what do you intend to prove?

Do you really think you can convince Mr Anony that God doesn't exist...or what topic are planing to discuss on if I may ask?
For people to learn from the debate. There are peeps who are undecided on faith

CrazyMan: Hmmmmm...this your atheism is really getting out of hand.

Just because you have google and wikipedia on the tips of your finger for reference purposes whenever you're involved in a debate on Nairaland doesn't mean you would be able to convince a servant of God that his master doesn't exist.

But I would look forward to that day...I feel its a welcome development which I believe would draw you to the feet of christ once and for all.
Lol... I am meeting Anony in person. He will testify to my debating skills,
