Kagarko: The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has said that, unless it is based on mutual understanding and for the purpose of an agreed upon public interest and common good (maslaha), the demolition of a place of worship, either synagogue, church or mosque, is provocative, condemnable and unacceptable under whatever guise.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the council, Prof. Salisu Shehu, in a statement on Thursday night, however said that the council had refrained from making a public statement on the controversial demolition of the Trans-Amadi Mosque in Rivers State because it has not conclude its investigations. He said the findings are still ongoing and contacts and talks are being made on the matter at the highest levels.
“Right at the time the news broke on the purported demolition of the Trans-Amadi Mosque in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the position it took has been the one enjoined by the Qur’an in Verse 6, Chapter 49, that, “Believers, when an ungodly person brings to you a piece of news, carefully ascertain its truth, lest you should hurt a people unwittingly and thereafter repent at what you did.”
“However, the deluge of reactions and counter-reactions and the emotions, sentiments and heat generated have made it necessary to make a public pronouncement on it.
So far, as its investigations proceed and as issues around the matter continue to unfold, the council is only further being convinced and satisfied that the position it has taken is surely the rightful and most appropriate one.” Shehu said. According to him, demolitions of any place of worships as it were, it has the potency of generating hate, hostility and even violence in the society.
He said that it is, therefore, not surprising that the Trans-Amadi Mosque issue has generated a great deal of tension and unprecedented hostile exchanges in the mainstream and social media. He said, “In this regard, the council hereby calls upon Muslims to continue to exercise restraint and to avoid taking laws into their hand while it handles the matter and prosecutes it to its logical conclusion. He said that while the council’s statement was not meant to divulge the findings of the investigations of the council, to the public, it is clear that the best way to resolve this matter is through high level dialogue and consultations which the leadership has been doing for the past several days.
“It is on this note that the council calls upon all parties, stakeholders and interest groups involved in this matter to avoid making public pronouncements that will keep on heating the polity thereby generating avoidable tension and fears in the country.
"The council wishes to further assure the Muslim Ummah that it will go to any length and will never relent in pursuing the matter and ensuring that it is resolved peacefully and just-fully,” Shehu said

President Muhammadu Buhari’s special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, has slammed the conduct of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Tokyo, Japan.
The president arrived in Japan on Monday, August 26, 2019 ahead of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) amid threats from IPOB, a southeast-based separatist group, that he would be publicly disgraced.
The group, led by Nnamdi Kanu, currently a fugitive, was responsible for the harassment and assault of Senator Ike Ekweremadu at an event in Germany weeks ago.
Kanu has promised future attacks on Nigerian leaders abroad, mainly for the treatment of Igbos in the southeast region and the designation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation in 2017.
In an article posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, August 28, Adesina said the presidency was never worried about the threats from “a fringe and shadowy group, long outlawed in Nigeria, to cause commotion, and embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari and his team”.
He further went on to describe how the group staged a protest that he described as shameful.
“In paroxysm of pain and frustration, they had shot a video at the home of the Nigerian Ambassador to Tokyo, threatening to ‘allest’ and ‘tly’ their own father, with Japanese police ‘coplating’.
“Shameful and ridiculous for every right thinking Nigerian,” he said.
Adesina said the group has been paid “scant attention” by the presidency, and that the group was not mentioned when Buhari received briefings on activities for Wednesday.
“It was time for serious business, I say again, and nobody had time for any distraction,” he said.

My attention has been drawn to a planted story by the Nigerian Presidency, claiming that my tweet that General Buhari was not invited to the G 7 Summit because of his misrule is “misleading”. I am glad they did not say I lied. They only said it is misleading. Since that is the case, let me clarify.
The article claimed that African nations are invited to the G-7 on a rotational basis. This is not true. African nations are invited to the G-7 based on their economy and their governance and the RELEVANCE of both of these to the G-7.
For instance, the largest economies in Africa will usually be invited, except where such economies have governance challenges arising from misrule or other anti democracies practices, such as compromised elections.
Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy (due to past governments, not the Buhari junta) and should naturally be invited to represent Africa at the G-7. The claim by the Presidency’s hired guns that Nigeria was not invited due to the rotational invitation policy does not hold water.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame was invited to the 2018 G-7 summit which held in Quebec, Canada in June of 2018. He is also invited to and is attending the ongoing G-7 summit holding in Biarritz, France.
If the invitations were done rotationally, as the Presidency’s hired guns would like Nigerians to believe, Kagame would not have been invited to the G-7 back to back. Kagame was invited back to back because he is relevant to the G-7.
The truth is that Nigeria was not invited to the G-7 summit because of governance and democracy challenges. For example, just a week before the summit began, Nigeria was censured for misrule by a G-7 member state.
It will be recalled that on August 18, 2019, just a week before the G-7 summit in France began, the US Department of State released the 2019 Fiscal Transparency Report which classified the General Buhari led Nigerian government as “not fiscally transparent.”
The timing of the release of the 2019 Fiscal Transparency Report was not coincidental. It had followed Travel and Visa Bans by the US government against Nigerian politicians that had undermined the 2019 Nigerian elections of which prominent members of the Buhari junta were targeted.
Beyond that, Nigeria, under General Buhari’s misrule, has deteriorated to the point whereby it has been overtaken by Ghana as West Africa’s number one destination for Foreign Direct Investments. We must be aware that the G-7 is above all an ECONOMIC SUMMIT. Hence Ghana was invited and Nigeria was not.
It is obvious that General Buhari was embarrassed by his G-7 snub. Why else would the Presidency hire hack writers to attack me for saying the truth? Why else would Buhari go to Japan to visit the Japanese Prime Minister at a time when the Japanese leader was in France?
Only a JOBLESS leader leaves his country to visit another leader, when that leader is not in his country. A serious leader, knowing that his host did not consider him important enough to be around when he visited, would have sent a minister to represent him.
But General Buhari went to Japan at the same time as the Japanese Prime Minister was in Biarritz, France, attending the G-7 summit. That alone tells you how desperate President Buhari is to cover his embarrassing snub.

Adesina had released photos shot in Yokohama, Japan, declaring that IPOB has had nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari since he arrived in the East Asian Country on Monday.
He was countering earlier insinuations by the pro-Biafra group that the President is nowhere in Japan 24hrs since his departure from Abuja, the nation’s capital.

State001: The Presidency has reacted to the plan by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to attack President Muhammadu Buhari in Tokyo, Japan, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had reported that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, gave an order for his members to attack the Nigerian leader who is participating in the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
Kanu in a letter obtained by Igbere TV, had written to his Imperial Majesty of the most esteemed and revered throne of Chrysanthemum, Emperor Naruhito of Japan, informing him of the plan.
He said the IPOB will not only disgrace but also arrest President Muhammadu Buhari who allegedly died long ago in January 2017 and buried in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, IPOB planned campaign of public arrest of the “impostor” in Tokyo is directed at Jubril Al-Sudani “the fake President of Nigeria”, not Buhari who he said died long ago in January 2017 and buried in Saudi Arabia.
“The Japanese authorities we know are best placed to unravel and confirm the true identity of Jubril”, Kanu stated.
Members of the IPOB were seen flying into Japan from different part of the world, ahead of the President’s arrival, in exclusive photos obtained by Igbere TV on Monday.
Reacting, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDComm), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the plan to attack Buhari in Japan by IPOB was not only careless, but disrespectful.
Dabiri-Erewa, who spoke on Monday in an exclusive interview with Lagos FM, threatened to be be ruthless on IPOB members if they dare carry out their threat.
“The call to attack President Buhari in Japan by Nnamdi Kanu is not just careless but also disrespectful to the core. Who does he think he is? If his group tries anything in Japan, I personally will take it upon myself to see that they are dealt with this time around.
“We are yet to forgive them on the assault on Senator Ike Ekweremmadu (in Germany) and they are planning to disrupt the President’s visit in Japan”, she stated.
