Returning Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama says he will focus attention on ensuring the security of Nigerians living abroad and attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the country.

Onyeama made this known in Abuja on Wednesday when he assumed office following his reappointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He said that his focus would be in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda which aims to make to make the Nigerian economy to be reckoned with at the ECOWAS, African Union, and global level.

Onyeama said that in implementing foreign policies, the ministry would be more aggressive and robust in engaging countries to ensure that the human rights and security of Nigerians anywhere in the world were respected, Igbere TV reports.

He said that to that effect, a call number would be made available to Nigerians living abroad to enable them to call and ask for assistance wherever they were.

Speaking on the attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, Onyeama said that both countries would work on growing a special relationship between them at the presidential level.

He explained that in the framework, the issue of the security of Nigerians in South Africa would be addressed at the highest level.

Onyeama said that there was also a trust deficit between Nigerians living in South Africa and the South African Police.

“It was important to get both parties to work together toward addressing the issue,” he, said.

PoliticsRe: UPDATE: Why We Raided ex-Gov Ambode’s Residence – EFCC by madmohamed(m): 11:42am On Aug 20, 2019
CGMedia:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained the reason behind the raid of Mr. Akinwumi Ambode’s residence, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that the anti-graft agency, on Tuesday, stormed the home of the immediate past governor of Lagos state, in a commando style.

Some officials of the EFCC, Lagos Office, were seen raiding the private residence of Ambode located in Epe area of the state, in his absence.

Speaking with our correspondent, EFCC Spokesman, Mr Tony Orilade, said the move is part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of the former governor while in office.

According to Orilade, Mr Ambode is currently under probe over allegations of economic and financial crimes levelled against him.

“We don’t raid, we search. Investigation is on-going in respect of the petition we have, that is why we went there”, he said.

Apart from Ambode, the EFCC Spokesman revealed that the residence of the former governor’s Chief of Staff was also searched.

“The raid is part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of the former governor while in office,” Orilade said.

“The residence of the former governor’s chief of staff in the same Epe neighbourhood was also searched.

“Both the former governor and his chief of staff are currently under corruption probe”, the EFCC Spokesman added.

The raid is coming a few months after Ambode left office. The former governor had fallen out with his godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the party’s primaries which saw Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu succeeding him.

Billions of naira were allegedly misappropriated in the four years of Mr Ambode’s reign, and detectives have been busy trying to untangle all webs around the alleged corruption.

Igbere TV recalls that about two weeks ago, multiple bank accounts holding billions and linked to Mr Ambode were frozen by the EFCC as part of the probe.

Also, the Lagos State House of Assembly had in January during the end of his tenure threatened to impeach Ambode for allegedly spending funds which were not appropriated.

The former governor is currently outside the country as at the time the EFCC stormed his residence on Tuesday.

State001:
President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, on Monday, paid a visit to Senator Ike Ekweremadu at his Abuja residence, Igbere TV reports.

The visit comes after Senator Ekweremadu returned to the country from Germany, and barely 48 hours after an assault on him.

Igbere TV had reported that Ekweremadu was physically assaulted in Germany, on Saturday, by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The former Deputy Senate President was invited as a guest speaker at the 2nd Annual Igbo Cultural Festival in Nuremberg, when the assault took place.

Other dignitaries who visited the lawmaker include Senator Chris Ngige, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, Hon. Kingsley Ebenyi, Senator Gil Nnaji, among others.

Meanwhile, Igbere TV had reported that Senator Ike Ekweremadu said he has forgiven his attackers and would not be seeking their punishment.

Speaking to journalists at the Abuja Airport, on Monday, the Senator said the attack was not a representation of the character of Nigerians both at home and abroad.

He, therefore, advised Nigerians and Igbo leaders to feel free to travel to any part of the world they wish, reiterating that he has since put the issue behind him.

Finally, Atiku Reacts To Attack On Sen. Ekweremadu

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has condemned the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by the members of Indigenous People Of Biafra, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday, Atiku described the action of IPOB as an uncivilised and undemocratic.

He said he waited to speak privately with Ike before making a public statement and have expressed my full and total repudiation of the unfortunate incident with him.

The statement reads,

"The physical assault on the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany, is an uncivilised and undemocratic action that I condemn in totality."

"I waited to speak privately with Ike before making a public statement and I have expressed my full and total repudiation of the unfortunate incident with him."

"No one deserves such mob action, least of all a man who is a specimen of what a democrat should be. A champion of the rights of the people of the Southeast and Nigeria, and a patriot par excellence."

"Nigerians, and especially those who were misguided into physically assaulting Senator Ekweremadu, will do well to remember the patriotic roles he played in saving Nigeria from a constitutional crisis in 2010, when there was a lacuna in the Presidency. He and then Senate President David Mark midwifed the Doctrine of Necessity that stabilised the nation. But for that patriotic action, our democracy might have been terminated."

"If those who were involved in that crass action had given due thought to the role Ike has played in nation-building, they would have celebrated a man who has made sacrifices for their good."

"To Senator Ekweremadu, I say that my family and I, and indeed most Nigerians, hold you in the highest esteem. An esteem that cannot be shaken by this incident."

"Finally, I call on those behind the assault to turn a new leaf and repudiate violence in all its forms, to seek peace and pursue it and to learn to give honour to whom it is due."

PoliticsRe: Anambra 2021: We Won’t Zone Governorship Ticket –PDP by madmohamed(m): 8:04am On Aug 19, 2019
chidima2019:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it would not zone the governorship ticket for the 2021 election in Anambra state.

The party declared that its priority is to identify a credible and sellable candidate that would secure victory for it.

This followed a recent request to Governor Willie Obiano by some traditional rulers from the southern senatorial district to ensure that their zone produced the next governor.

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, had earlier in the year, disclosed that the party has zoned its governorship ticket to Anambra south.

National Vice Chairman, South East, Chief Austin Umahi, who made the party’s position known, said zoning the governorship might be the internal affair of APGA, which had nothing to do with his party.

He said there was no way another party’s zoning arrangement would apply to the PDP.

Addressing newsmen in Enugu, after PDP’s monthly zonal meeting, at the weekend, he wondered what zoning was being talked about.

He stated that the PDP has not been in power in the state for a very long time, so, it would go the whole hog of identifying the best candidate to win the election.

He noted that APGA could afford to zone because it has been in power in the state for long, asking not be dragged into what was happening in another party as he did not belong there.

“Anambra election is very cardinal to us; we wouldn’t allow what happened before to happen again to us because; we are determined and dogged to recapture Anambra as a party because the state belongs to the PDP and you know that if not for sabotage, if not for the P.H.D; (Pull Him Down) syndrome in Anambra State, which we have taken precaution.

“We must have to nip it in the bud this time around; it will not repeat itself.

“On the issue of zoning; you talked about APGA, but this is PDP. We are going for the best candidate, irrespective of where he comes from; if he likes, let him come from anywhere and let his brother act as the deputy, the most important thing is that PDP wants to reclaim Anambra state because the state is very cardinal to the Southeast.

‘There’s no way South East Governors Forum would meet as PDP and Anambra state would be lacking. So, the onus lies on us that we get Anambra back on the stream for the PDP,” Umahi said.

He sounded it clearly that the national leadership of the PDP has mandated the zone to recapture Anambra as they did recently in Imo state.

Useful confessions have been made. As we speak 1,700 forest guards are being recruited. New access roads are being constructed into desolate and hidden areas of our forests.

Nnia Nwodo, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says some Igbo are taking advantage of the attack of herdsmen in the region to kidnap and murder innocent igbo.

He also lamented how local traditional rulers and vigilantes are abetting the killers in the region.

In a statement on Saturday, Nwodo claimed that southern Nigeria has witnessed very unusual security breaches.

“Assassinations, kidnapping and invasion of one or two holy places have been reported in the social and regular media,” he added.

He, however, praised the actions of security personnel in the region while calling on traditional rulers to complement the efforts to keep southern Nigeria secured by handing over killers and kidnappers in their communities to relevant authorities.

He said, “Worthy of note is the arrest of those responsible for the murder of two Catholic priests and the kidnap of a Traditional ruler. Useful confessions have been made. As we speak 1,700 forest guards are being recruited. New access roads are being constructed into desolate and hidden areas of our forests.

“Ohaneze also notes that a few miscreants among us have exploited the Fulani rampage to engage in kidnapping and murder of innocent citizens.

“We urge our traditional rulers, town unions and local vigilantes to fish them out and hand them over to law enforcement agencies.”

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has commiserated with the family of a farmer murdered by suspected herdsmen in Ikot Obio in Mkpat Enim Local Government Area of the state and victims of the attack.

It was gathered that the farmer identified as Friday Etor, went to his farm and met a herd of cattle feeding on his crops. He confronted the herdsmen and asked them to leave his land but they resisted.

In the ensuing disagreement, the herdsmen shot him dead. Several people were equally attacked by the herdsmen. An 11-year-old boy Nsikak Udoh, was also hospitalised, following bullet wounds he sustained in the attack, Igbere TV reports.

Addressing the people of Ikot Obio Nso, Ikpa Ikono clan where the dastardly act took place, Governor Emmanuel who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, said preying on the lives of the people of the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen will not be accepted.

PoliticsRe: Gowon Must Beg Igbo For Civil War Genocide – Fani-kayode by madmohamed(m):
Masterclass32:
Critic, Femi Fani-Kayode has said the various prayer sessions being conducted by former Military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon remain a waste if he does not apologise to the Igbo over the genocide against the group during the Civil War.

Fani-Kayode, in a statement on
Monday said 300 Igbo army
officers, including an Igbo Head of State, were murdered on July 29th, 1966 by northern army officers, while 30,000 innocent and defenceless Igbo civilians (many historians say the figure is actually over 100,000) were slaughtered between September and December
1966 by savage and barbaric
northern mobs in three separate pogroms in the north before the outbreak of the Nigerian civil war.

“Finally 3 million innocent and
defencless Igbo civilians, including one million children, were targeted and butchered by the Nigerian Army and the northern “Gwodo-Gwodo” auxiliaries and militias during the Nigerian civil war between 1967 and 1970,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said if the Nigerian
people really wanted their fortunes to change for the better and that if they really wanted to be restored to the great and prosperous nation
and people that they once were, they needed to ask the Lord for forgiveness for what they did and what they were still doing to the Igbo nation.

“General Yakubu Gowon can
conduct all the prayer sessions that he wants for Nigeria but until he acknowledges the fact that the genocide that the Igbo people were subjected to under his watch between 1966 and 1970 was unacceptable and until he appeals to the Igbo nation to forgive Nigeria for what we did to them, things will get from bad to worse.

“Though it is unknown to most, our nation has been afflicted with a deep spiritual wound which was inflicted as a consequence of our barbaric actions over the years and
particularly before and during the civil war. This is a spiritual matter and sadly and regrettably we see its consequences unfolding in the
physical realm before our very
eyes every day.

“The shedding of innocent blood always results in divine retribution and it goes from generation to generation. Unless remorse is displayed, forgiveness sought and national repentance is established the cycle of divine retribution and judgement will continue unabated and affect the lives of millions.

“The civil war “Gwodo-Gwodo” militias, made up of savage, bloodthirsty, heartless, godless, dark and evil men from Chad, Niger Republic, Mali and parts of north-western Nigeria are the spiritual forefathers and the same dark
forces that have resurrected as
terrorist and killer herdsmen that are slaughtering our people ALL over the country today,” he added.

According to Fani-Kayode, “the whole thing has come back to torment and haunt us and only God can deliver us from their hand. The fastest way to make your nation the land of the accursed and rejected is by continuously
shedding innocent blood and
showing no remorse for it.

“We must recognise and accept this, we must endavour to stop the violence and killings, we must beg God and our victims for forgiveness and we must do the right thing. Anything short of that will not put us on the road to
redemption and restoration. May God open our eyes to see and accept these harsh realities and may He guide, help and lead us in all our endeavours.”

mrakeli62:
Osita Chidoka arrives the Palace of His Royal Highness Emir Mohammed Sanusi, the Emir of Kano to join him for Durbar.

According to Ikechukwu Okafor his media assistant, the last time Chidoka visited the Emir's palace was as Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission when he paid a courtesy visit to the Late Emir Ado Bayero.

Chidoka wished Eid Mubarak to all his Muslim friends.

The former Minister of Aviation who arrived Kano yesterday to condole with the family of his Late Deputy Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission Uba Hassan, was warmly received by his younger brother, two sons and other members of the family. "We prayed for the repose of his soul and condoled with the family". Chidoka said.

"I learnt an interesting Islamic culture during the visit, the family said they were planning to visit with me to find out if I have any transaction with late Uba that they need to settle. I answered in the negative. His brother said it is a requirement of Islam to ensure that all debts and obligations to people are settled. It gave me a new meaning to the saying 'Rest in Peace'." Chidoka wrote on his official social media handle.

Tinubu is actually powerful no doubt. Tinubu sure knows power is not given but taken hence the Southwest should unite and bring the trophy home . Buhari better don’t make any silly mistake that will make the south gang up against the north. IF that happens. Then the north will suffer. Gone are those days when the military hold sway
you and who will gang against the north. So Na only South West kn how to produce the president. If south west do not support South east then forget it. Anyway we are still for Biafra
