Explorers: A security guard at a residence on Gabriel Okoyi Street, Ikate-Lekki, Springbay Estate, Lagos State, Bitrus Peter, has died from injuries he reportedly sustained in the hands of two naval ratings.
The 29-year-old man was reportedly beaten up by the naval ratings and two security guards on the order of one Seun, a tenant at a house manned by Peter.
City Round learnt that Seun accused the deceased of stealing a piece of his jewellery and invited the naval officers attached to a landlord on the estate to probe him.
It was gathered that Peter led the naval ratings to a man he sold the necklace to for N40,000, but the man also claimed to have resold it N100, 000. The money was said to have been recovered from the man.
Afterwards, the naval ratings and two of the estate guards stripped Peter half-naked and descended on him heavily in Seun’s presence.
He reportedly went unconscious when one of the officers booted him in the head.
Peter’s younger brother, James, who is also a guard in one of the houses on the estate, told our correspondent that he got wind of the incident from a friend and he rushed to the scene.
He said the assailants and Seun ran away by the time he arrived there, adding that he and a relative rushed Peter to the Lagos Island General Hospital where he later died.
The native of Tafa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State is survived by a wife and a five-year-old girl.

Mmuoojukwu: A popular African adage has it that a stubborn fly follows a corpse to the grave. I pity the three Nigerian ethnic groups especially my Yoruba brothers who had once enough food in their mouths and forgot the bitterness of hunger. They forgot that if one wants to rob a monkey of his baby, it will only cost a handful of peanuts. They allowed the northern fulani oligarchy to divide them. It won't be strange if some Yorubas start calling their Obas, Soyinka, Obasanjo wailers or haters for calling for self-help or condemning fulanization of the south West which buhari is bent on achieving. It is possible because this is Nigeria where every prophet can be called wailer. Nigeria has three biological sons. One is dead or in chronic coma. Can TY Danjuma or Gowon save the Hausas now? Which Hausa tribe can they save from the fulani? We thought it was a Hausa problem until fulani displaced all the tribes in the north and moved to the middle belt and now in the south. When I wrote last year that fulani will not spare Yorubas and Igbos, a lot of people on this platform called me a wailer and other names. Today the reality is staring at us. As for the Yorubas I love them but it's hard to save them from the strong grip of the fulanis. If you can give us the way out, posterity will remember you. The Igbos are feared somehow because their position on biafra is a bonus but they don't know the wonders Nnamdi Kanu has done for them. They are the stubborn flies. Only if they will realise their lives are in serious danger, they will drop selfishness and queue behind him and save their land and their children from imminent deaths. Igbo is the only tribe with little or no presence of Islam. Ideally, they can speak in one voice if they can do away with politicians and some Igbos who live in the north. The youth wing of Ohanaeze made the most impressive comment when they said they would compel State Houses of Assembly in the southeast to move for self-government. It's the best direction but we must realise that freedom is not fought by weak-willed persons. Freedom is never given by the oppressor, it is taken from him by force of the majority who speak in one mind. There should be house-to-campaign using the ravaged Hausa tribes, benue etc as examples. This is the last chance Igbos have to save their children from the impending doom. We must realise our enemies have enough money, power and influence to divide us. Our biggest strength is unity. If we allow them, we shall die like chicken. Reject money, reject political post that will make you sell your land and your people. to me I can't reject money I will take it and tell them to go to hell is my money too |

The group said the call was against a democratically elected government, saying “activism is not madness and must be done within acceptable standards.”
Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, the president of the group, Adamu Kabir Matazu, said: “We commend the Department of State Services (DSS) for their prompt arrest and detention of Omoyele Sowore and we call on the DSS to investigate his connection with Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB and their known collaborators in Nigeria should immediately be arrested for questioning because we suspect they were hired to destabilize our country by some foreign interests or some faceless politicians who lost out in the last general election.
“We also want to warn those misguided youths that are in league with Sowore to desist from this madness and shouldn’t allow themselves to be used or hoodwinked by people who no longer have stake in Nigeria. They need to understand that activism is not madness and we are ready to counter-march them fire for fire and we can go to any length to defend our emerging democracy against any individual, groups or foreign interests who want to serve as agent of instability in our nation.”

Igboblog: Finally, Army Reacts To Killing Of Keke Rider In Aba
By Wisdom Nwedene
The Nigerian Army has denied killing of a Keke Rider in Aba on Wednesday, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had reported that a Keke rider, identified as Mr. Chimaobi Nwaogu, was allegedly killed by soldiers stationed in the Ogborhill axis of Aba for failing to give #100.00 naira bribe.
In a statement by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division, Aliyu Yusuf, the army debunked the report, saying that the killing was perpetrated by unknown gunmen in military camouflage.
The army noted that it is pertinent to state that the rumours trending in the social media that the man was killed by a soldier for refusing to give a bribe of #100.00 naira is false untrue and misleading.
The statement reads,
"The attention of 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a violent incident involving an individual identified as MR CHIMOBI NNAORGU who allegedly lost his life from a gun shot injury inflicted on him by unknown gunmen suspected to be a cultist in camouflage T.SHIRT at UMUOKERE NGWA COMMUNITY IN OBINGWA LGA OF ABIA STATE on Wednesday 7 AUGUST 2019."
"This incident resulted in a breakdown of law and order as youths in the community took law into their hands by burning down houses. Troops of 144 Battalion with the assistance of other security agencies have calm down the situation."
"I wish to state categorically that 82 Division troops deployed for any operation do not brutalised law abiding innocent citizens in line with Nigerian Army code of conduct for internal security operations. It is pertinent to state that the rumours trending in the social media that the man was killed by a soldier for refusing to give a bribe of #100.00 naira is false untrue and misleading.
"While investigation is on going to unravel the perpetrator of this criminal act, our heartfelt prayers are with the family and loved ones of Mr CHIMOBI.May God grant them the fortitude to to bear this irreparable loss."
"You are please requested to disseminate this information to the general public through your medium."
Igbere TV reported that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State through his Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi, Ikpeazu called on the citizens and residents of the affected areas to remain calm, peaceful and not take the law into their hands.
He said the government is already engaging relevant agencies to establish the identities of those involved in the reported incident with a view to ensuring adequate punishment for whoever is found culpable.

Grupo: Hahaha haha.
One by one, e don dey reach all of them.
Mbaka collected money from Buhari and declared that Buhari, an unrepentant ethnic and religious bigot was God sent. He never envisaged that his actions could come back one day to hunt him.
Today, he is protesting against the killing of one of his colleagues. He is now afraid because if it could happen to his colleague, it would soon get to his turn. We shall soon know who is Goodluck and bad luck between Buhari and Jonathan.
Adeboye, another unrepentant merchant of the gospel threatened to lead a massive campaign against the former administration because two of his members were kidnapped.
He overtly and covertly campaigned for the present blood sucker in Aso Rock. Just yesterday, he was asking people to pray for his pastors that were kidnapped.
What I really don't understand about Adeboye's own is how he is bold to ask people to pray! Was he not just drinking tea with Jesus some months back? Let him just prepare another tea and invite Jesus over, then table the issue of the abduction of his pastors to him.
Also, when the pastors have been released, let them be queried to be sure they have been paying their tithes and seeds. It could also be that the affected pastors have been embezzling tithes from their local churches. I don't see why they could be kidnapped since Daddy G.O. usually make it clear that no one who pays tithe can face life challenges.
Hopefully, the incident would make our dear daddy G.O to start speaking up on issues affecting the country. Prior to this time, he has remained evasive and dodged from speaking against ills in the country. He does not want to offend his godson and Buhari.
Gradually, the rich are beginning to cry. We go dey all right las las. you forgot to add sowore he help to bring down Jonathan know he is in jail. One thing I noticed is all of this peoples who help to bring Bihari to power are in trouble |

maxman01: IF SOMEBODY ASK YOU WHY WE NEED A REVOLUTION NOW, THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD SAY: The aim of the revolution is to challenge the uncommon hardship; challenge why we have 16m children on the street; challenge why we have become the poverty capital of the world; challenge why we have 20 persons with corruption cases as federal legislators and would-be Ministers. We need to restructure the country. We need to put an end to trillions spent on electricity while we live in darkness and pay estimated bill for electricity and meters. Why do we have huge oil reserves but refineries are dead and we are re-importing what we exported as crude oil? It is time to ask why those in govt travel abroad for medical care when they have left our hospitals dilapidated; why they send their children to school abroad when our children learn under mango trees. We are revolting against the continuing killings that have left 20,000 Nigerians dead while those in office move around under state paid security and do nothing. We are revolting because over a thousand Nigerian soldiers killed by boko haram have been secretly buried without identifiable graves, dignity or honour. $16m was purportedly spent on mosquito nets but our children die daily from malaria. $320m Abacha loot was purportedly distributed to the poor. Where is the verifiable list? N500billion was purportedly distributed to the poor as so-called trader-moni. Where is the verifiable list? Our senators earn far more than the American President yet we are borrowing to finance our entire 2019 budget. Unemployment rate will jump to 33.5% in 2020. The UN general assembly has projected that Nigeria shall remain the poverty capital of the world beyond 2050. That is 31years from now. By then, our population shall double to 400million. It means that all the problems we have today will equally double or triple IF WE REFUSE TO REVOLT NOW and say NO to everything and everybody that has held us down as a people. With divine grace, God gave us about 40 natural resources spread across 420 locations across the length and breadth of the country. No country on mother earth is as blessed! The persons destroying Nigeria in and out of government are less than 10,000. For how long will the 201million of us be silent? Forever? It will be sheer stupidity and very unfair of us to be silent and bequeath today's sorry Nigeria to our children. For how long shall we continue to endure bad leadership from certificate forgers, election riggers, ritualists and yahoo politicians, hoping upon hope for a better tomorrow when things get worse by the day? edunwablog: The Federal Government has said it is working towards amending the Marriage Act.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, said in Lagos on Thursday that the amendment became necessary in order for the ministry to “adequately meet the needs of citizens in the 21st century.”
Ehuriah said this while delivering the keynote address at a stakeholders’ conference with the theme, “Achieving harmonious compliance in the conduct of statutory marriage in Nigeria,” held at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Ministry of Interior and local government areas had been locked in legal battle over who has the statutory power to conduct and issue marriage certificates.
Ehuriah said on Thursday that by the provisions of Sections 24, 30(3) and 30 of the Marriage Act, only the Principal Registrar of Marriages was authorised to print and distribute marriage certificate to places of worship throughout Nigeria.
“The implication is that any certificate not printed by and delivered by the Principal Registrar of Marriages is illegal and cannot serve the desired purposes,” she said.
She, however, said the Ministry of Interior was making arrangements to give couples whose marriage certificates were not issued in line with the Marriage Act opportunity to bring them to conformity.
Ehuriah added that the Ministry of Interior was making moves to “appropriately advise the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the legally-acceptable (marriage) certificate for the guidance of foreign embassies in Nigeria and Nigerian missions abroad.”
While disclosing that only 314 out of the 4,725 places of worship licensed by the Ministry of Interior to conduct marriages had renewed their licences, Ehuriah called on places of worship who had not renewed their licences to do so to avoid invalidating marriages conducted by them.
“The implication of this is that marriages conducted in unlicensed places of worship are not in line with the Marriage Act and cannot serve legal purposes when the need arises; and as such, unlicensed places of worship are operating contrary to Section 6(1) of the Marriage Act,” Ehuriah stressed.
The Permanent Secretary also said the Ministry of Interior had secured the necessary approval to establish Ikoyi Marriage Registry Annex “while arrangements are in advanced stages to establish Marriage Registries at Ikeja and Ibadan.”
“These, we hope, will, to a good extent, address some of the challenges being faced at the registry,” Ehuriah said.

Igboblog: Atiku Reacts Over 'Killing & Secret Burial of 1000 Nigerian Soldiers'
By Wisdom Nwedene
The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the alleged killing and secret burial of 1000 Nigerian soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists, Igbere TV reports.
In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Atiku said he read the report by the Wall Street Journal that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the General Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror, with a sense of heartbreak and shock.
Atiku further said that men and women of our armed forces are our first, second and last defence against our domestic and foreign enemies and should be treated with love, respect, dignity and appreciation for the invaluable service they render to Nigeria.
The statement reads in full,
"On The Secret Burial of 1000 Soldiers Killed By Boko Haram/ISWAP: Nigerians Are Entitled to Know The Truth."
"I read the report by the Wall Street Journal that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the General Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror, with a sense of heartbreak and shock."
"Heartbreak for the families and friends of those soldiers who, if the report is true, have lost their loved ones, without being allowed to bury them or even to have any sense of closure as regards their fate."
"Shock, that such a thing could happen under a democracy, such as Nigeria is supposed to be. I shudder to think that the cover-up of such an event of epic proportions can be true."
"The men and women of our armed forces are our first, second and last defence against our domestic and foreign enemies and should be treated with love, respect, dignity and appreciation for the invaluable service they render to Nigeria."
"I cannot fathom that in the space of a year, 1000 of these great patriots were killed and buried secretly without their families being told. I hesitate to believe that deceit on such a grand scale is even possible."
"To ensure that we get to the bottom of this matter, I urge that a Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by a non-partisan and reputable jurist, be inaugurated to investigate the findings of the Wall Street Journal. While this is occurring, I also strongly urge that a panel of inquiry comprising distinguished former military officers be set up to investigate and report to Nigerians the true state of the war on terror and what must be done to ensure Nigeria brings a speedy end to the ongoing insurgency."
"Nigeria must ensure prudent use of finances, so we can redistribute national resources in such a way that ensures that our military and security forces are well armed and well remunerated."
"Even the death of one soldier affects me. But the alleged cover-up of the deaths of one thousand soldiers is a national emergency that should shock all statesmen and leaders of thoughts into action to save Nigeria."

Abokii8: It is no longer a news that most of the southern states have rejected the establishment of ruga in their respective domains. This laudable initiative was introduced by the Federal government to curb the incessant herders and farmers clash that claimed many lives in the past. Among all the identified critics, Igbos seems to be the most vocal, but Inyamuri remember that you people are doing your legal and illegal businesses all over the north unchallenged so why wont you reciprocate the gesture? Yorubas thank you for the half-support and more noticeably, Tinubu's exoneration of the peaceful and law abiding Fulanis from the gruesome murder of a daughter of high ranking Yoruba leader some weeks ago which we all know the igbo culprit still coordinating crimes from his cell. The caliphate has noted the developments and you would all be paid back in equal measure. Thank you. your are very stupid for writing this nonsense here. You northerners think like animals behaved like animals and mostly sleep whit animal |
