DrDauda: You were one of those nairaland rats shouting changy, changy, changy. Now you have changy, shut up n bear d consequences of your decision
Lol! i am not the only one being affected. It affecting even people that voted and supported Jonathan. Common sense should tell you that now is not the time to latch on to the apc/pdp divide. Unfortunately, common sense is not so common anymore.
Why does the CBN sell forex to the parallel market but refuse to sell to banks?
Why is subsidy payments made in dollar - Which runs in Billions, estacode paid in dollars and government travels/itinerary made in dollars but a Nigerian student schooling abroad cannot access dollars for their use?
How the cbn is stopping essential needs category from accessing the much needed forex?
I really do not understand the cbn policies and how it will protect Nigerian Naira but the effect is really biting hard on my business. My sibling got dropped from his registered courses cos he wasn't able to meet up with the required payment before the deadline.
I tried to send some funds to him today through western union but they refused to do it cos the cbn ordered them to stop!!
My knowledgeable people, i wish to be educated cos i am about to go coo.
My business has suffered greatly in ways you can't imagine!
I went to the western union in eco bank (g.r.a ikeja) in order to transfer some money to u.s.a. only to be told that it is no longer possible to do so as a result of cbn's order to them this morning.
Banks have not been sold forex by the cbn in two weeks+ and I am at loss on what to do.
YerYer: Since this topic made front page twice, lemme repost what I posted the last time...
You would think "Boko Haram" would be the most searched or trending topic, instead you have people searching about the Charlie Hebdo killings. This just shows that we don't value Nigerian lives. The day after the Paris attacks I saw Nigerians on social media doing #wearewithparis or #parisstrong etc meanwhile many innocent Nigerians are losing their lives, limbs and arms to boko haram everyday and no one cares.
Seems like we love to join the band wagon just to look cool. I noticed the same thing during the Ice Bucket challenge in 2014, Nigerians on social media were doing the whole ice bucket thing to create awareness for ALS which is a neurodegenerative disease very common in Caucasians meanwhile millions are dying of malaria in Nigeria. Not sure if this is a case of misplaced priorities or just attention seeking behavior. Even our celebs were part of the short lived craze.
Value yourself or no one else will give a rat about you.
Loool... My life as a nigerian is valued morenin europe and in american countries than in Nigeria. Atleast, I wouldn't get shot by the u.s. soldiers for blocking the road. Atleast, I wouldn't be denied my fundamental human rights by those supposed to protect me.
Nigerian lives have ni value in nigeria loool. Get used to that fact.
kay29000: People are making all this seem as if the military went to a community and opened fire on a bunch of innocent civilians. Have you guys watched the video? These people had machetes in hand, and were shouting allah akbar, and a top military officer walked into their midst, not carrying for his life, and even shouted out an order to his boys "DON'T SHOOT." He walked in there, and faced one of the shi'ite men, one on more, and pleaded with him to control the mob. He and others begged this people for 10 good minutes...I mean, top military men begging you just to let them pass in peace. Come on!
Are "top" military men gods? There were women and misguided children in their midst. I saw the video. The shiite movement was agressive but not violent. They blocked a major road which is probably a crime but do they deserve to be massacred for it? The coas appealed to them to move away for his almight convoy which fell on deaf ears and that is really wrong but does that warrant a death sentence?
You do not kill a mosquito with a hammer.
The coas had the power to order an arrest of every single individual there. Alternatively, he could have involved the police since they are better at dealing with civil disobedience.
The military carried out a thoughtless action which they would probably never pay for.
Men, women and children lost their lives that day. It could have been anyone. It could be someone you know next time. What is wrong is wrong. Condemn it.
The shiites were wrong for blocking the road but the military committed an atrocity by massacring them.
obailala: ... A lot of Nigerians obviously do not know what is going on, a lot of people have absolutely no idea how close Nigeria is to a total economic collapse and the CBN and FG obviously isnt communicating maybe in order not to cause panick.
Economics 101: The nation is import dependent which means there's a high forex outflow. The main source of forex inflow is oil and oil prices have crashed massively to an 11-year low (even though expenditure has increased massively). Right now the nation spends more forex (via importation) than it earns (oil export) and consequently, the stock of foreign exchange is reducing drastically.
These checks by the CBN are simply to prevent Nigeria from becoming Greece or Venezuela. The CBN is struggling to prevent a situation where the foreign reserves are depleted on ebay businesses as you say, or by people going on leisure holidays abroad and then in a few months, the country wouldnt have any forex left to import food to feed its populace. This is no longer about the CBN trying to save the value of the naira, it is about the CBN desperately trying to save the nationfrom crashing and this is certainly not the time for people to be going randomly on leisure holidays. If only the CBN and the government would just communicate more properly and let the people know how bad things really are, how close the nation is to total collapse, maybe we wouldnt have people complaining of 'no funds for holidays' anymore. People would rather be more concerned about feeding.
Just incase you didnt know before now, I'm sure you should now understand the picture better with my explanations above and you should now understand why the CBN is desperately trying to prevent the outflow of forex; it is to save you and I from the Greek / Venezuelan situation which is imminent in a few months if oil prices don't come up.
Now this is another disturbing development. Things are actually worse than it seems, yet some people still complain they dont have forex for xmas holidays.
Very intelligent contribution. I am very curious to know why the cbn sells forex tobthe parallel/black market but not to the banks. The major leakages are from bdc's and online trading. Online trading leakage has been plugged but the cbn still sells minimum of 10, 000 dollars on a weekly basis to bdc. I dont think they are serious yet.
Bro, thisnis serious. I haven't been able to get travel allowance for a while. I had to buy dollars at 280 today. If this card thing is true, then I am afraid I will have to withdraw all my money, convert it to dollars and move it to my us bank account.
If alot of nigerians do this, the banking sector would take a massive hit. That would be our way of protesting.
MARKone: Are you kidding me? Defer his engagement because of what that some religious fanatics were doing procession, on a federal Road for that matter. I was very sympathetic on this shiites issue, till I saw this clip, it is utterly preposterous. There is something with Muslims and stubbornness, why not make way, let the COAS and his entourage pass, then continue with your bloody procession, it is only a f00l that argues with an Armed man, talkless, our Military Men i.e going by their antecedents. They shiite guys were wielding sticks and cutlasses, some with Masks, shouting "Allahu Akbar" in front of the COAS even after pleas from the Brigadier General for them to clear the road
It's like you've not mingled with these soldiers to see how they protect their senior officers.
So, they deserve to be gunned down? Women, chidren and men gunned down for resisting the almighty coas and his truculent brigandes? They were agressive but not violent. Bro, ive seen alot of things in the killing of those people is gross injustice
jackobi: The video says it all....Nigerian army chiefs were diplomatic to the core....bunch of lunatics they clearly got what they deserved. God bless Nigerian Army..
During the subsidy protest, I remember some roads were blocked, during a pdp rally, roads are blocked even an owambe can sometimes get roads blocked. If we are to kill everyone conducting themselves in a disorderly manner then no one would exist. Those shiites did nothing that warranted the hails of bullet.
For cryingnout loud, , children were in their midst. May God forgive the men behind the trigger cos they will reap the full consequences here on earth.
What buratai should have done is to keepnhis appointment for another day. Turn around and let the police deal with it.
gosh! I give up on this country. Thank God i have dual citizenship. In due time, i will relocate and i swear i will never look back. My children deserve better.
symbianDON: thank you! to even imagine that Buratai personally got down to plead with them but rather than give peace a chance, they began to hurl stones at him! attacking the chief of army staff is equivalent to attacking the nigeria army which is tantamount to attacking the country. well, they have bitten well more than a mouthful of wahala for themselves!
listen!
Former president of the united states- George Bush- was stoned while he was on a tour in the middle east. you do not use lethal weapon to quell a non-lethal attack. If Nigeria was in Europe, the kind of sanction we would receive for this singular act would cripple the economy for years to come. For crying out loud, these are also human beings.
Don't forget there would be collateral damages. Innocent by-standers hit by stray bullets and all that. It could be anybody oooh!
today its them, tomorrow it might be us. We should all criticize what is wrong. Nigerian army/armed forces operates with impunity and without recourse to the laws of engagement. I have lost an acquaintance in the hands of Nigerian policemen. He was tortured to death after being accused of possessing a gun. The gun was never seen!!
This is beautiful. This is what they should have done a long time ago. This would actually help in stabilizing the freefall of the naira. Now they are serious,
If this is true, then it is really appalling. I keep hammering that our armed forces needs massive overhauling and reforms. Respect for human rights is a sign of a country being on the path to greatness. If you travel to the developed countries and see how their armed forces coordinate themselves, nto dey join police go dey hungry you.
Sijo01: Unfortunately, this is what Nigeria celebrities are known for. Flamboyant life styles; competiting with one another on who wears the latest and most expensive designers and cars.
I've never read or heard about 2face reaching out to his fans financially like Don jazzy and even small Davido.
Tuface has done alot oooh...ahh... I can take a bullet on my arm for tubaba. I am not a fan of his music but only God knows what this guy did for me....
ozy4christ: when ever u go in a new environment, first u study it and obey their rules, don't be surprise that the trousers are low waist or tight or may be it's a Muslim court I.e sharia of a thing, so
Even muslims in UAE wear trousers. By the way, she didn't go to a sharia court. She went tthe high court and the last time I checked, Nigeria is a secular state.
Yawns Ms exquisite face of the universe?? Nna I never hear that one before. Anyway, the one I consider a big deal is ms nigeria and ms world.
So many beauty pageant competitions
Ms world Ms nigeria Ms commonwealth Ms ecowas Ms tourism Ms tura soap
I can't name them all. Congrats to the winner of this ms ummmmm..... I cant even remember the long name again
Edit OKAY, I just saw her picture. Nothing special about her looks. I am not tryna hate and I really congratulate her but she looks like em expensive bishes we fuccck eryday!
dammytosh: I dnt want to apportion blame too but that is just the truth.
GEJ had opportunity to write his name in gold but he failed.
Budget was done with projection dt crude would be sold and $75 but it went as high as 110 but we have nothing to show for it. Not even a substantial amount in foriegn reserve.
All tthe nigerian leaders except yaradua had the opportunity to writie their names in gold. Have you forgotten the oil glut of the 70s. The problem of nigeria didn't start with gej. I amm not a supporter of gej but it makes me upset when we try to hang gej instead of focusing on how to tackle our current problems.
Have you forgotten that buhari planned to probe previous leaders till ibb cautioned him Ibb subtly threatened to expose his jolier than thou attitude for what it really is.
Since then, buhari has limited his probe to gej's admini.
Like I would always say, lets forget gej and focus and solving our problems cos right now, gej is the least of our headaches!!
dammytosh: That is what you get for allowing GEJ and his team rule for 6years.
They have taken us backward for more than 60years.
Despite selling crude oil the highest price any govt witnessed. They wasted it and stole as much as they can.
Now crude is all time low and Nigeria depends on it as a matter of fact
Gej didnt do this county any good for 6 years but dont forget gej is actually made things better when conpared to past leaders. The likes of ibb, abacha and co are the ones that really really ruined this country.
Instead of apportioning blames and counter blames, I feel we should be more concerned on making things work under thos current dispensation.
