BusinessShoprite To Shut Down Its Operations On June 30th 2024. by Makavelli001(op): 12:14pm On Jun 27, 2024
*JUST IN: Shoprite to close Abuja branch June 30*
24th June 2024
By Damilola Aina

_Shoprite Mall has announced its intention to cease operation in one of its Abuja branches from June 30, 2024._

*The branch is situated at Novare Central Mall in Wuse Zone 5.*

This was contained in a circular signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Folakemi Fadahunsi, on behalf of the retail supermarket and obtained by our correspondent on Monday.

A staff at the store who pleaded anonymity also confirmed the report, saying “Yes, it is true, we just heard it here too.”

The popular mall attributed its decision to a thorough evaluation of the store’s financial situation and the current business climate.

It additionally notified vendors that their services would no longer be needed at the store.

The circular read, *“We regret to inform you that as of June 30, 2024, Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited will be closing its Wuse Store located in Novare Wuse Central Mall, Abuja. This decision has been made after a thorough evaluation of the store’s financial situation and the current business climate. We believe this is the best course of action for our organization’s long-term growth.*

“Effective June 30, 2024, our company will no longer operate in Wuse, Abuja, and we will no longer require your services for the Novare Wuse Central Mall Store. Please note that all existing service contracts will also terminate for the store.”

The circular added the company would be reviewing its accounting records in the next 60 days to settle outstanding balances.

“If your services are specifically tied to the Novare Wuse Central Mall Store and if there is an outstanding balance between our companies, we will carefully review our accounting records over the next 60 days (about 2 months). We will then promptly contact you to confirm the amount owed and discuss a suitable payment schedule.

“We would like to express our gratitude for your past business. It has been a pleasure working with you and your team. If you have any questions or concerns, or if there is anything we can do to assist you during this challenging transition, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, it added.

Multiple multinationals have left Nigeria by either scaling down operations, transferring ownership or selling their stakes, the most recent being the sale of beverage company Diageo’s 58.02 per cent shareholding in Guinness Nigeria to Tolaram Group on June 11, 2024.

*The exodus of multinationals from the Nigerian economy has cost the country a N94tn loss of output in five years, according to an economist and former Director of Research and Advocacy at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nigeria, Dr Vincent Nwani.*

According to the analyst, for the first year, over 10 companies shut down operations in 2020, most notably Standard Biscuits Nigeria Ltd, NASCO Fiber Product Ltd, Union Trading Company Nigeria PLC, and Deli Foods Nigeria Ltd.

In 2021, he stated that more than 20 companies exited, including Tower Aluminium Nigeria PLC, Framan Industries Ltd, Stone Industries Ltd, Mufex Nigeria Company Ltd, and Surest Foam Ltd.

He stated that in 2022, over 15 known brands left Nigeria, including Universal Rubber Company Ltd, Mother’s Pride Ventures Ltd, Errand Products Nigeria Ltd, and Gorgeous Metal Makers Ltd.

More than 10 major companies left in 2023, notably Unilever Nigeria PLC, Procter & Gamble Nigeria, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Ltd, ShopRite Nigeria, Sanofi-Aventis Nigeria Ltd, Equinox Nigeria, and Bolt Food & Jumia Food Nigeria.

In the first six months of this year, five listed major companies had left Nigeria, including Microsoft Nigeria, Total Energies Nigeria (affected by its divestment), PZ Cussons Nigeria PLC, Kimberly-Clerk Nigeria, and Diageo PLC.

PoliticsRe: Chinua Achebe VS Wole Soyinka by Makavelli001(op): 4:36am On Jun 11, 2024
Soyinka got the Nobel award because Awolowo was the finance minister. He used state money to buy the award for him. Chikina!
PoliticsChinua Achebe VS Wole Soyinka by Makavelli001(op):
I think the comparision of Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe is mischievous at best.

There is no comparison really.

I like to think that what makes someone a SPECTACULAR writer is their ability to tell stories that finds a home in your heart.

I left secondary school MANY YEARS AGO, and I can tell you, that there are literatures I read back then, that I can still remember today... I can remember the dialogues... Incidents...Names... And even the pictures I created in my mind of what I think the writer was trying to portray.

I only read Wole Soyinka because I needed to pass my literature exams.
I remember how we had to debate The Lion and the jewel in our literature class... Soyinka portrayed Africa like a helpless continent that needed western civilization to survive.
I have never opened any of his books since after secondary school.

But I have read Things fall apart by Chinua Achebe more than 10 times.
I have read The Concubine by Elechi Amadi more than 15 times.

I mean, from start to end.

I have replayed different scenarios and different endings in my head.

I have thought about A Things Fall Apart where Ikemefuna did not die...
A concubine where Ihuoma's children didn't hunt lizards on the very day Ekwume came visiting...

These are memories that will remain with me forever because a writer dared intrude my subconscious and made a home there.
.
.
.
I will chose to read Efuru by Flora Nwapa over any of Woke Soyinka "finest works".

There are at least 10 African writers who I'll read first before I pick any Wole Soyinkas books, like;
Ngugi wa Thiongo
Cyprian Ekwensi
Mongo Beti
Buchi Emecheta
Aye Kwei Armah
Etc.

And No, my submission is NOT because of the politics of "ANYWHERE BELLE FACE' Wole Soyinka has subjected himself to, which has made him a nuisance/laughing stock right now, it's just how I have always felt about his works.
I never connected to ANY of his books, I had to struggle to read, to relate, or even understand them and I have read over 200 books from African writers series alone.

Many Nigerians will easily remember Ikemefuna and Okonkwo more than they can remember any character in Wole Soyinka's books, this is because of RELATABILITY, a writer speaking to the reader in a familiar language.

Chinua Achebe is NIGERIA'S GREATEST LITERARY EXPORT to the world and there is a reason he is called THE GODFATHER OF AFRICAN LITERATURE...

I mean, THINGS FALL APART alone has been translated into 57 Languages!!!

It is not news that the reason why Achebe was snubbed for a Nobel Prize for literature was because he was too committed in his support of African culture and the oppressed, instead of using his platform to serve the interests of big powers in the west who were and are still our puppet masters.

Like the late Nelson Mandela once said; paraphrased, Achebe is the writer in whose company the prison walls fell down.

Achebe is THE GOAT.
There is NO COMPARISON.

PoliticsOver 400,000 People Have Received Fg #50,000 Grants ¿¿ by Makavelli001(op): 12:07pm On May 30, 2024
President Bola Tinubu

By
Damilola Aina
The Federal Government has disbursed a total sum of N20.11bn to 402,283 beneficiaries of the N50,000 Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme.

The beneficiaries selected from the 774 local government areas received a direct payment to their bank accounts via their Bank Verification Number.

This information was disclosed in a document exclusively obtained from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment by our correspondent on Wednesday.

The scheme domiciled under the Ministry of Trade and Investment commenced on March 9, 2024, with financial grants of N50,000 without repayment obligations to eligible small business owners operating in various sectors such as trading, food services, ICT, transportation, creatives, and artisans in the 774 local government areas of the country.

undefined0.00 / 0.00

It targeted 70 per cent of women and youths, 10 per cent of people with disabilities, and 5 per cent of senior citizens, with the remaining 15 per cent distributed to other demographics.

It also said only one million out of the 3.6 million applicants for the conditional grant will be selected as recipients.

President Bola Tinubu, on October 17, 2023, launched the renewed hope conditional cash transfer to 15 million households.

The scheme was only to benefit people with nano businesses seeking to expand and be willing to formally register their businesses and hire at least one additional person as their turnover increases.

The ministry, in a Frequently Asked Questions and Answers said “Disbursements aren’t based on any specific criteria, but in the order, applications are verified. The goal is to reach an estimated 1,290 beneficiaries per LGA across the country, totalling one million.

“Disbursement is also subject to verification of NIN, which became mandatory after the initial application phase and required only BVN. The selection is random, without human intervention, from those who have passed their NIN and BVN verification.”

The trade minister, Doris Aniete, also stated that the objective is to distribute funds to an estimated 1,290 beneficiaries per local government area across the country.

However, a list containing the number of recipients showed that individuals in all LGAs received the funds but not in equal numbers.

The list didn’t contain personal details and contacts of individuals who benefitted from the programme and is as of May 29, 2024.

A breakdown of the document showed that Katsina LGA in Katsina State got the highest allocation with 1,048 beneficiaries while Omuma LGA got the lowest with 85 recipients.

A summary of the top ten receiving LGAs includes Gusau LGA in Zamfara State (977), Omala in Kogi State with 921 recipients, Shiroro LGA in Niger State (911), Owerri North in Imo State (897), Konshisha LGA in Benue State (890), Calabar South in Cross Rivers State (881), Anka LGA in Zamfara State (876), Balanga LGA in Gombe State (873) and Kaltungo LGA in Gombe State (862).

While the lowest 10 receiving LGAs include Olorunsogo LGA in Oyo State (85), Etsako Central in Edo State (86), Ogu/Bolo in Rivers State (98), Opobo/Nkoro in Rivers State (103), Owen West in Edo State (104), Ovia South-West in Edo State (110), Jere in Borno State with 116 recipients, Degema in Rivers State (146), Ogun Waterside in Ogun State (159), Ogo Oluwa in Oyo state (160).

Recall that the minister had earlier indicated that disbursement was going to be staggered and in phase till completion.

Meanwhile, the trade minister confirmed that the ministry had begun examination and sorting of applications received from asset managers to establish the diaspora fund.

She said hundreds of applications were received and currently undergoing a vetting process.

The minister, speaking through her aide, Terfa Gyado, said, “On diaspora Fund, the deadline for Expressions of Interest has closed and applications are currently being vetted.

“We received applications in hundreds and from all over the world.”

When asked to confirm the specific figure, the minister said it would be announced after the sorting process, she said, “They are still sorting but it was an overwhelming response.”

The $10 billion Diaspora Fund is a government-enabled, private-sector-led initiative of the ministry to attract investment from citizens living abroad.

The fund, which would be established by private sector Fund Managers selected through a competitive bidding process, is a way of encouraging remittances, attracting investments, and facilitating philanthropic endeavours aimed at supporting various sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

The government had extended the date for the submission of an Expression of Interest for the fund to May 13, 2024.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has confirmed that about 150,000 individuals received the sum of N50,000 this week from the Conditional Grant Scheme initiated by the Federal Government.

The Minister made this disclosure in a statement on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.

Uzoka-Anite also urged the public to be cautious of fraudulent and unscrupulous individuals demanding payments for processing the grant, emphasizing that the scheme is entirely free and does not require any fees.

She reiterated that the grant scheme is targeted at 1 million people in total, adding that a list of all beneficiaries will be released upon completion.

“Beware of fraudulent and unscrupulous parties demanding payment for grant processing.
“The Presidential conditional grant is completely free no fees required. The ONLY official source for federal grants and loans is fedgrantandloan.gov.ng.

“If you’re verified and awaiting funds, we appreciate your patience during this process. For full transparency, a list of all beneficiaries will be released upon completion,” she said

RomanceThought He Was A Better Man Than My Husband Until We Did It* by Makavelli001(op): 7:37am On Jan 23, 2024
*I Thought He Was A Better Man Than My Husband Until We Did It*

When I read Shirley‘s story my first thought was, “This woman is playing with fire but she doesn’t know it.”

When I say this, it’s because I know firsthand how it feels to get attention from a man who is not your husband.

I have walked on the same ground she is walking on. And I got burned so badly. I am still licking my wounds as I share this experience.

My marriage is seventeen years old and I have three children with my husband. Honestly, I got myself a good man. He takes care of the family and I do my best to support him. In his quest to do his best for us, he started immersing himself in work.

This took him away from me most of the time. He was always working and traveling for work. There seemed to be very little room on his schedule for family time. I would ask him to participate in a couple-bonding exercise with me and he would tell me he has to work.

I tried to be an understanding wife so I never questioned him or communicated my unhappiness to him.

My kids are independent so whenever my husband was not at home and I was also not at work, I started to feel lonely.

I tried to deal with it my own way by occupying myself but you cannot replace human connection with a busy schedule. It didn’t work. It only made me lonelier and more unhappy.

I contained this displeasure for so long that I forgot it was even there. Then came a time when a guy at my workplace noticed my demeanor and asked if everything was okay with me.

At first I said, “Oh yeah, I am fine.” But he said, “No, this is not you. If you don’t want to talk to me, I hope you will at least talk to someone else.” Like me, he is also married.

The kind of care and attention he gave me was something I hadn’t gotten from my husband in a long time.

It felt nice to have someone see me and know that I am not okay.

I didn’t have a hard time trusting him. I told him everything that was not right with my marriage.

I talked about how neglected I felt by my husband. I talked about the loneliness that had made itself a home in my heart.

And boy, did he listen? Sama listened to everything I said without judgment. Sometimes he even played the devil’s advocate so I would understand my husband a little.

While he was doing all this, he was giving me the kind of attention I wished my husband would give me.

Whenever my husband traveled for work, Sama would call and ask, “Are you alone again? Do you need me to entertain you for a while?” I would laugh and say, “You know I am bored so bring on the theater.” We would talk, make jokes, and laugh.

Soon enough, things started to get spicy. We started flirting and having sexual conversations.

That was not the goal when Sama became my confidante.

However, I was so impressed with all the care and attention he was giving me that when the lines started blurring, it didn’t startle me.

I don’t know if I can explain it properly but I will try.

We had gotten so close. Everything I complained to him that my husband wasn’t doing for our marriage to work, Sama was doing effortlessly.

*I started comparing him to my husband. Because he was giving me what I needed at the moment, I thought he was a better man for me than my husband.*

_I would ask myself, “Why can’t my husband have time for me like Sama does?”_

“Even Sama who is somebody else’s husband always listens to me when I need to talk, and he gives me a shoulder to lean on when I need to cry.

*So why can’t my own husband do any of this for me?” Comparison is a thief of joy, they say.*

_In Shirley’s story, she says she has not slept with the man she is seeing. I just want to say good for her. She shouldn’t try it. It will not end well. Again, this is something I know firsthand. When the lines began to blur and Sama and I were having sexual conversations, I was so sure that it would end there._

~I did not think for a second that I would get so lost in the moment that I would sleep with him. But I did.~

*Everything changed after that. First, I was filled with a regret so immense that I was constantly crying. I kept crying because after we did it, I realized that I wasn’t even attracted to him. It was the attention I was chasing. He just happened to be the person wielding it.*

_The second thing that changed was Sama. He became busy all of a sudden._

*He was no longer available to talk to me when I needed a friend. Even his shoulders that I used to cry on got busy. This only doubled my regret. Everything kept replaying in my mind. I opened up to this guy about all the things my husband was not doing right and he did all of them so he could gain my trust and get into my pants.*

_He didn’t care about me like I thought. Do you know how badly that hurt? It felt as if someone set fire to my heart._

*To make things more dreary, he started hitting on another woman at our workplace who was my friend. The lady knew we were close so she kept telling me every detail of their journey. Today Sama said this. Tomorrow Sama said that. When she is done she would ask, “Edwina, you are close to him. Is he a good man? Do you think I should give him a chance?”*

I wanted to tell my friend that I was not interested in whatever happened between her and Sama but how could I have had that conversation with her without revealing my own ugly secret with him?

So I kept quiet and told my friend to take her time and get to know him properly before she commits to anything.

The guilt and regret ate me up for months. Who am I kidding?

It is still eating me up. I remember how much I used to cry when the whole thing first happened.

*Especially when I started considering the fact that I married a good man.*

_My husband would never disrespect me the way Sama did. I thought he wasn’t paying attention to me but he was._

*Every time he saw that I was down he asked, “Are you okay dear? What’s the problem?” I would shake my head and say I was fine. One day he took me out for a drive. While he was driving he said, “I know you are not okay. I have caught you crying more times than you know. Tell me what’s going on?” That day, I fell apart as I opened up to him.*

No, don’t get ahead of me. I did not tell him anything about Sama.

I am not sure he will recover if he finds out.

What I told him was all the things I didn’t tell him in the past. “I am in this marriage with you but I am lonely,” I began.

I talked about all the times he was too busy for our marriage and all the way it hurt.

*He said he didn’t know that was how I felt. “I will be a better husband going forward,” he promised.*

Ever since we had that conversation, I can see my husband changing.

He is more present. He is not always too busy with work to have a conversation with me.

We are bonding again. We are both doing everything possible to ensure that neither of us feels neglected by the other.

This gives me a cocktail of emotions. On one hand, I am happy that my marriage is coming back to life and my husband listened to me.

However, I am even regretting my affair with Sama more than anything.

My Heart Was Broken All Over Again

*I keep thinking, “So if I had just opened up to my husband long ago, this whole thing with Sama would never have happened.”*

I hate that I allowed myself to be vulnerable with a man who is not my husband and it cost me my sanity.

The good news is, that I learned a lot of lessons from the advice people gave Shirley.

I have taken those lessons and I am applying them to myself.

Sure, I messed up and it ended in premium tears, but I am fighting for my marriage now.

We cannot change the past. We can only learn from our mistakes and create a better future.

That is what is keeping me going right now. I just want to tell Shirley or anyone in her shoes not to repeat my mistakes.

Regret and guilt is a heavier crown to carry than lack of attention, take it from me.

–Edwina

Ladies, please men and for that matter good number of husbands do listen. So, let us enhance our communication skills and engage your husbands and vice versa to resolve issues.

Let’s also exercise patience. All play and no work like the bible says poverty will catch up with idle hands. Let us be more interested in the quality of the limited time we share together than the quantity of time that brings no tangible financial benefits and freedom to the home.

BETA EDU: THE LOOTING SIDE CHICK!
When Bola Tinubu sent a 47 list of Ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and I saw Beta Edu’s name and others, I knew it was just a list of sidechicks and cronies who were appointed not for merit but to loot and make returns.
Beta Edu, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has not disappointed me. The former Ben Ayade’s sidechick who once said Sanwoolu has a small P has now looted N585million in one month alone, using her cronies account in UBA Bank. This is just a tip of the iceberg as the Minister has so far looted almost N4billion in seven months.

Tinubu’s Humanitarian Affairs Minister Writes Accountant General, Directs Payment Of Public Funds Into Private Account

The private account belongs to Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola, identified as a project manager by the minister.

Dr Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation asked the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein to send public funds to a private account, according to a letter obtained by SaharaReporters.

The private account belongs to Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola, identified as a project manager by the minister.

A letter from the minister with reference number: FMHAPA/HQ/OHM/S.208 to the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Madein dated December 20, 2023, asked that over N585 million should be sent to a private account.

The letter signed by the minister, Dr Edu, is titled ‘Mandate for Payment of Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos and Ogun States Respectively’.

It reads, “I hereby approve the payment of the cumulative sum of five hundred and eighty-five million, one hundred and eighty-nine thousand, five hundred naira (N585,189,500.00). These are payments for programmes and activities of the Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups.”

The details show that N219,429,750.00 was for 2023 Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom State; N73,828,750.00 was for 2023 Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Cross River State; N219,462,250.00 was for 2023 Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Lagos State while N72,468,750.00 was for 2023 Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Ogun State.

The letter said the payment of N585,189,500.00 –the total sum – should be made to a UBA account: 2003682151 belonging to Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola.

“This payment should be made from the National Social Investment Officer account with account number: 0020208461037 to the Project Accountant’s details listed above,” it added.

Sources told SaharaReporters that a system that allows the Accountant General of the Federation to send public funds into private accounts based on requests by ministers encourages corruption.

“If a minister can ask the Accountant General of the Federation to move public funds into a private account and the AGF will do it, then it is no wonder the last AGF stole plenty of money,” a source said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris and Geoffrey Akindele alongside Mohammed Usman and Gezawa Commodity Market & Exchange Limited on charges of fraudulent diversion of public funds to the tune of N109.5 million.

Idris and Akindele were accused of committing criminal breach of trust while being entrusted with certain property, to wit N84,390,000,000 between February and November 2021 by “dishonestly receiving the said amount from the Federal Government through Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, trading under the name and style of Olusegun Akindele & Co”.

As a public servant, Idris was also accused of collecting an equivalent of N15.1 million from Akindele between February and December 2021 to accelerate the payment of 13 per cent derivation to nine oil-rich states in the country through the Office of the AGF.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that it exclusively obtained documents showing how the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) moved N226,188,500 million to Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states on November 11, 2023.

In the election characterised by irregularities including vote-buying thuggery and pre-recorded results, APC candidates were declared victorious in Imo and Kogi states while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State secured re-election.

However, documents SaharaReporters obtained on Thursday show that the funds were moved to the states on November 4 and 6 respectively in the name of providing palliatives for indigent and underprivileged people.

But government sources told SaharaReporters that the funds were mobilised to the states days before the elections to buy votes under the cover providing funds for vulnerable people in the states.

“It was all a ruse to buy votes for APC and their candidates in the elections using the programme for vulnerable people as cover; that was why the events were done a few days before the governorship elections in the three states,” one of the sources said.

A breakdown of the disbursement of the funds shows that N72,374,500 was moved to Kogi State on November 6, 2023, through the Director of Finance Account, National Social Investment Agency, just five days before the governorship election.

Also on November 6, the ministry approved and moved N72,423,250 million to Bayelsa State under the ministry's 2023 grant for vulnerable groups programmes.

On November 3, 2023, a total of N81,390,750 million was moved to Imo State under the same guise of providing grants to vulnerable groups, just seven days before the governorship election.

According to the documents, the Minster of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Edu personally approved the moving of the funds to the three states.

On October 31, 2023, the Nigerian House of Representatives summoned Edu to brief the chamber on the status of the federal government’s conditional cash transfer programme to 15 million households.

In a motion of urgent public importance, the House expressed concern over the handling of the programme, citing a lack of transparency and alleged fraudulent practices.

The lawmakers asked the minister to provide details on the collation of data and the distribution of funds.

President Bola Tinubu launched the conditional cash transfer programme in October as part of his efforts to address poverty and vulnerability in the country. The programme aims to provide monthly cash transfers of N25,000 to each of the 15 million beneficiary households for three months.

The invitation of the minister by the House comes amid reports of irregularities in the program’s implementation, including allegations that some beneficiaries had been excluded while others had been paid multiple times.

The lawmakers asked the minister to provide details on the collation of data and the distribution of funds.

However, efforts to reach the minister failed as she did not answer calls from SaharaReporters. She also did not reply to text messages sent to her mobile line.

Can you imagine that the NSIPA boss is currently indicted by the EFCC for moving 17b that was meant for the 9months payment of npower beneficiarieshuh
The president announced that he has ordered the payment of 9 months stipend but only one month was paid, and the rest was looted.

Instead of 9months, only one months was paid and the rest looted.
Tinubu should put extra watch on the female ministers especially Betty Edu.
That woman is like a snake.

Ijaw ke!!!
Ijaw should be the 6th or 7th. Ijawa are not much. Landmass does not determine the population otherwise kanuri and gbagyi would have been the 3rd & 4th .
Ijaws are good in claiming other people as part of their tribe.
The population in their core state which is bayelsa is nothing to write home about.
Effik-Ibibio is far more populated than the ijaws. There is no part of akwa ibom that speak ijaw, they are just trying to claim ibiono to be ijaw because they have oil.

I'm 33 years old, and I can count how many ijaws that I have meet in my life.
