Not surprising at all. Nigeria Government has condonned similar atrocities perpetrated by France in Cote d'Ivoire 4 months ago. You were not outraged when France and UN armies bombarded Gbagbo's presidential palace in April 2011?
Come on, Nigerians, Stop your hypocrisy !!!!!!

You were not "concerned" when they stroke your neighbor La Cote d'Ivoire and shelled the national presidential palace.  You praised them!  Your president Jonathan unofficially sent nigerians soldiers to fight beside the French army. Today, the  strategy used in Cote d'Ivoire by France has been replicated in Lybia. Who's next? Do you think you will be spared?
Now what are you concerned about?

This article really hits the crux of the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire. Africans are so misinformed and manipulated by western media that when French Air Force shelled President Gbagbo residence (the Ivorian national presidential palace) after 10 days of intensive bombardings, lot of Nigerians, even here on Nairaland cheered their soul off.

Among other things, the woes of President Gbagbo battle was about the creation of  an independant currency for Ivory Coast. The present currency is called CFA which stands for French Community of Africa . This currency is directly controlled by french Ministry of Finance through French Treasury. President Gbagbo had the gall to announce a monetary reform that would end up in the creation of a new and free currency for Cote d'Ivoire, hence the demonizing campaign launched by France against him and naively echoed by most of the african media.

No, not at all, that is not funny !!! That is a french 'savoir-Faire" widely used in african francophone countries to defraud elections.  Gej benefited from the french company SAGEM expertise to perpetrate that massive fraud.
Do some research on the company SAGEM, you will find out lot of things!

GEJ can't win in that landslide. These elections were massively rigged. Goodluck benefited of French company SAGEM expertise to biaise the results. That is what they use to do in african Francophone countries. They did not want a stalemate, that why they fraudulently gave Gej winner at the expenses of Nigerian people wish.

I warned you ooooo, Naija men.

He can't do anything, unfortunately. That's too much for him. He already naively (this word really fit GEJ) befriended with French devilish president Sarkozy. GEJ financed Allasan ouattara campaign upon Sarkozy advices. He did not see what was lurking Nigeria. What is saddening with us Africans, is that we never forsee things coming toward us until we get deadly struck.

OK, Go Ahead, and kill each other, Stupid Nigerians!
Didn't I warn you about that? This is merely a CIA and France secret services plan to spread disorder all over the country and take over Nigeria oil and gas. The final purpose in to control the entire Guinea Gulf oil and gas!
It started in Cote d'Ivoire, and you were all prone to blame naively President Gbagbo without knowing what his true battle was. Let us move forward, you'll find out more outraging things.

USA and Europ are on the brink of bankrupcy. Nothing gonna stop them. Nothing !!! Not even the death of million and million west africans. Right now a genocide is underway in Cote d'Ivoire. It's hapens NOW !!! Nigeria, Ghana won't be spared !!!

I am Ivorian. I am here to warn you about what is lurking on Nigeria for the next months. I cry for Africa, specially West Africa.  Nigerians, you are stubborn !!! You were prone to condemn President Gbagbo, but you don't know what shadow forces he is struggling against.

Do you really believe all these bombings are committed by Northeners? Why should Northeners mess up in their own stronghold? The perpetrators of these bombings are not necessarily from northern Nigeria, but it is merely a special mercenarians unit trained in the purpose to  plunge Nigerians into religious and tribal war.   CIA and France secrets services bad job in west Africa is underway in Nigeria with the blessing of Obama Administration. What is in play is the control of the entire Guinea Gulf.  Jonathan Goodluck is very naive as a politician. He befriended with the french devilish president Sarkozy. That is the mistake he should have never committed. Remember the Biafra war: France was the mastermind of that war.

You must be aware of France and USA agenda, and not fight each other. Nigeria unity is very precious for our subregion.  West Africa deserves to live in peace and take advantages of its enormous oil and gas reserves.  Our mineral ressources are wealth God granted us for our descents.
Foreign AffairsRe: Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo Surrenders by Makbo: 2:10pm On Apr 06, 2011
The problem in Ivory Coast goes futher than a simple elections standoff. That is what Nigerians should understand for good! In 2002, Gbagbo was already acting president when France perpetrated a coup d'Etat asking him to step down. At that moment, IC did not have any electoral problem to debate upon, but French government asked President Gbagbo to step down. Already in 2002, the motto was "step down". Upon Gbagbo's refusal to do so they converted the coup d'Etat into a rebellion in the northern part of Ivory Coast that became the rebellion shrine. The rebel northern stronghold (60% of the territory) remained out of government control from 2002 to 2010. Rebels were provided weapons and funding by France for eight years. In November 2004 Gbagbo launched a military action on the North to liberate the country from rebel ruling, the same France came to rescue the rebel by destroying all the ivorian Air force. Where were you Africans when all that went on? The AU cynically condemned Gbagbo for attempting to liberate his country.
France since then tried to organise hastilly elections in IC so that it could declare Ouattara winner and oust Gbagbo from power, but the ivorian constitution states clearly that no elections can be handled whenever one significative portion of the territoty is out of government control. France then said Gbagbo is hiding behind the Constitution to postpone election. All african nations stand one France's side to sing tha same song. Go back to the news one year ago to have evidence of what western media said and wrote at that time.

Finally Gbagbo accepted to go to election and the UNOCI had to disarm the rebels first. They did not do anything and rebels remained heavily armed. Elections were handled in the North with massive riggings so that Allassan could be declared winner. People willing to vote for Gbagbo have been intimidated raped in the poll station. All these frauds have been denounced by AU observers. The Supreme Court took its responsibility to cancel the results where all the fraud has been committed.

Since that decision France declared war to Gbagbo and Ivory Coast. Here are the facts you should be mindful of before diserting uselessly on Gbagbo stepping down. How can the ivorian people can accept this kind of diktat from a bigoted western country who think he is Master in Africa? How long shall they be killing our leaders without any action from our part. Killing Gbagbo will not resolve the ivorian crisis. The thing is Ivorians are fed of French people.
Foreign AffairsRe: Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo Surrenders by Makbo: 7:50am On Apr 06, 2011
President Gbagbo is giving an insightful lesson to all african politicians: he is not hanging to power but to democratic principles. Gbagbo has been  lawfully declared president by the ivorian Supreme Court, and there is no doubt upon that hence the northern controlled rebel stronghold rigged massively for Ouattara with french army collaboration.  How come France can come up fooling the Supreme Court of an african sovereign country pretending Ouattara won. They dare bombing that country amid african approval, wich is very unfortunate. That is a dangerous precedent for Africa seeking democracy.  But also be mindful that Gbagbo has been elected by Ivorians who laid their hope into him. They come like that asking him to step down. For what sake? Who are they? Why they are not asking Ouattara to abandon his ambition? The reason is quite simple: they are lot of capitalistic interets in play. We are in Guinea Gulf with lot of oil and gas reserves. Tomorow, when they will steal and exhaust our wealth will you Africans be complaining about lagging behind all the nations on earth?  Is it our fate to be at the bottom of humanity?

I thought he was a tough boy. He could have avoided bloodshed, negotiated a long time ago and even seek reelection at some point.

Apart from Drogba grin (if I can give him that), What has Mr Gbagbo achieved in IVC since 2000, that should be the criteria for analyzing him.

During his negotiations, I hope the UN gives Mr. Gbagbo a false sense of freedom, Charge him in a few years like Charles Taylor for crimes against humanity. A good leader should protect his followers period. And I hope Mr. Quatara is learning,

Your post reflects an incredible ignorance of the ivorian crisis, but also an illeteracy in term of westerners agenda in Africa. Please open widely your eyes it's coming straight to Nigeria now. We know about that desastrous agenda of France/USA in Guinea Gulf headed by Obama and Sarkozy with their naive complicit GEJ. Oh yes, we know about it !

Did you know that president Gbagbo's village has been bombed and burnt yesterday by french helicopters ? Did you know about their shadow play? You will never see that anywhere any western media. No, Not at all !!! President Laurent Gbagbo will NEVER step down under anyone pressure. He is a freedom fighter refusing any comprimises with the colonialist french government, he is  not a coward. You don't know that man.

Nigerians, unfortunately you are very misinformed about what's going on in Cote d'Ivoire even being in the same sub-region.  Please stay humble and pray until the end of your elections because we, Ivorians, perfectly know about  what Goodluck, Sarkozy and Obama are conspiring for the upcoming presidential elections. It is a sheer devilish plan to take over the Guinea Gulf !!!  I have been warning you about that for quite long. Beware Nigerians!

In fact there is no ethnic war in Cote d'Ivoire. There is just France against Ivorians fighting for the dignity. The strategy used by french bigoted potilicians is to oppose Ivoirians on the ground of ethnicity. They failed flat to do that, because the ivorisn society is well blended which prevent them from such a simplistic split. Northeners/Southeners does not mean anything in Cote d'Ivoire!!! An Ivorian rarely get married within his ethnic group, so that the ivorian society appears much more like a melting-pot. The French devilish strategist try to detour that reality by recruiting mercenarians for Quattara rebel's army within the west african immigrants who turn out to be mostly mandingo from Mali, Burkina Guinea. Then this is that mandingo based rebelion army that is fighting against the regular army, and they are backed by France. Funding and weapons are graciously provided by France. On the ground France army is always fighting along with rebels.

Côte d’Ivoire: French helicopters and UNOCI are bombing all strategic sites

French helicopters and UNOCI are bombing all strategic sites.
Two helicopters of the French army are bombding at this moment the two military camps of the Akouédo in the Neighborhood of Cocody, said many witnesses.
“I saw two helicopters opening fire three times I ran to hide under the bed,”said to Directscoop a witness living in Riviera Palmeraie neighborhood not far from both camps. “There is smoke everywhere” said a source inside the camp saying that one of two military bases are inhabited by many families.
“My house shake, it looks more like bombs” said a frightened witness reached by telephone. According to other witnesses of the center of Cocody, “a chariot of Fds has been hit by a shell fired from a helicopter, while it’s been raining for several hours on the capital.

The first attack in Abidjan by the pro-Ouattara reels backed by their allies, ended in failure. Nicolas Sarkozy, who supports Alassane Ouattara said that “it is urgent to put an end to the crisis (Ivory Coast)” while for his foreign minister Alain Juppe “Gbagbo is living his last days of head of state. ” The presence of French soldiers (and UNOCI) alongside the rebels in the clashes, has been repeatedly denounced by the Ivorian government.
The last resolution (1975) UN voted on the initiative of France, called upon “all parties to work towards the comprehensive political solution of the African Union (AU)” and welcomed the decision (…) to appoint a High Representative for the implementation of the comprehensive political solution “by peaceful means. The resolution also urged “all parties to cooperate fully” with the High Representative.
Alassane Ouattara, with the support of his allies has rejected the High Representative appointed and engaged military hostilities immediately on all fronts in the west, center and east of the country before entering the “battle of Abidjan “together with UNOCI and Licorne against President Laurent Gbagbo.
The Constitutional Council, the highest court responsible for giving the final results according to the Ivorian laws, proclaimed and invested Laurent Gbagbo, President of the republic. This decision complies with all UN resolutions on Côte d’Ivoire, which reaffirmed the strong commitment of the organization to respect the sovereignty and independence of that country

Nicolas Sarkozy declared war to Cote d’Ivoire

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has approved on Monday the bombing of several targets, including military camps and the Ivorian television, said UNOCI in a statement from the Elysee pretexting to stop the actions of Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo against civilians.
By early afternoon, the two military camps Akouedo, near residences have repeatedly hit as well as the Ivorian television and the residence of the Head of State and the Presidency, the symbols of the republic.
These attacks of the French army are to facilitate the takeover of the opponent Alassane Ouattara yet unsuccessful candidate in the second round of presidential elections in November 2010.
Agban gendarmerie camp had suffered in the night from Saturday to Sunday shelling from French soldiers in ambush since la casse d’Adjamé, according to a military source.
French soldiers entered directly into action on Saturday in order to forcibly oust President Laurent Gbagbo, after the failure of the pro-Ouattara rebels to take control on Friday of the Presidential Palace, the residence of the President and National Television. The rebellion, according to an adviser to President Gbagbo, was even forced to abandon the Golf Hotel, its headquarters.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday while thousands of patriots were converging toward the residence of the Head of State in Cocody and the other two bridges leading to the presidential palace in the Plateau, the French soldiers took control of the airport Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan and reinforced their presence in Côte d’Ivoire by supplying men and arms according to airport sources.

ghanaian name.
Ivorian Southeners are Akan people rooted in Ghana. They share the same culture, the same name and whatever. Names like Appia, Attah, Kouao, Ossey, Aka, Kwame, Koffi are very common in both the countries. Only the spelling differs.  That shows how complex is the ivorian crisis. Those like GEJ who are advocating military force use in IC don't know what they would ignite.  Nigeria troops in IC would be an outright mistake GEJ should be accountable for.
