Excitement as Lagos governor Ambode opens ultra-modern park with free wi-fi (photos) - Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos set another pace on Wednesday, December 13, with the opening of an ultra-modern park - Named after three former governors, the park has a free wi-fi, children's unit and other facilities for users - Governor Ambode says the park was named after three governors as part of the efforts of his administration to honour those considered as heroes of the state Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos officially unveiled an ultra-modern recreational park in Alausa, Ikeja, in the evening of Wednesday, December 12, The park was opened in honour of three former governors of the state, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson (Rtd), Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The park is located in front of the state House of Assembly and few metres away from Lagos House. Ambode, who spoke at a ceremony to unveil the park known as Johnson, Jakande, Tinubu Park (JJT Park), said it was part of the efforts by his administration to immortalise heroes of the state. “One of the hallmarks of any progressive society is to always recognise and reward the efforts of heroes who contribute to the growth of that society. “In the case of Lagos state, we have so many heroes who toiled and laid a solid foundation for the Lagos we enjoy today. “Today, we are here to celebrate and honour three past governors of our dear state who were outstanding in their contributions to the development of Lagos state. “These eminent Lagosians are some of the very few brave men that stood to be counted on the side of justice and even by their performances while in office have written their name in gold for future generations. “The roles played by Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, the first governor and military administrator of the state; Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos state; and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governor and architect of modern Lagos; can never be forgotten. They are the true legends of our state, and architects of the Lagos we are proud of today,” Ambode said. The governor noted how Brigadier Johnson laid the foundation as the pioneer governor of the newly created Lagos state in 1967 and constructed the 60.7 kilometre Lagos-Badagry Expressway linking Nigeria with countries in the West African sub region, the Itoikin Bridge linking Epe and Ikorodu; the Eko Bridge and a network of roads and bridges that opened up the new Lagos. He said Alhaji Jakande, the first elected civilian governor of the state, who held office for four years, introduced masses-oriented programmes particularly in the education, housing and health sectors. According to Ambode, apart from the successful implementation of the free education programme, Alhaji Jakande’s administration also established new neighbourhood primary and secondary schools, and also constructed over 30,000 housing units in different parts of the state for the benefit of low income earners. “His tenure also witnessed the completion of the general hospitals in Gbagada and Ikorodu as well as the establishment of about 20 health centres within the state. "Alhaji Lateef Jakande conceived and initiated the metro line transit system that would have provided a solution to the challenge being experienced in the transportation sector today,” he said. Concerning Tinubu, Ambode said the former governor’s enure witnessed the development of a blue print for the future development of the state and which successive administrations have continued to build upon and actualize today. “One of the remarkable achievements of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was the reform of the state tax administration system which resulted in the state attaining the status of the most viable and self-sustaining state in Nigeria.

Sounds like the priest is mentally unbalanced...and to think he heads the school. |
Basically dead on arrival, they just make laws without considering our peculiarities, once a tenant appends his signatute to a document with conditions spelt out, he has to follow through, who will be collecting rent every three months, i don't think any reasonable tenant wants to be bothered about paying rent every three months sef..besides Landlord can just double the amount paid since thr law wants to turn it to ajo.. Like the one before it, this also is not gonna change much. |

JUST WHEN YOU thought that the days of road cars built around racing technology were done—and for the most part they are—Mercedes-AMG unveiled its long awaited Project One, a $2.8 million hypercar stuffed with all the tech that Mercedes has developed to dominate in Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsports tech. With its first hypercar, revealed this week at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, Mercedes proves there’s more than one way to make rich drivers feel like they’re training to be astronauts. Where the equally pricey Bugatti Chiron summons 1,500 horsepower from an 8-liter W16 engine that can empty a 26-gallon gas tank in eight minutes, the Project One relies on a puny 1.6-liter V6 engine and a few electric motors. Yet it tops out at 217 mph and goes from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.6 seconds. That’s possible because the Project One is built with the same tech that Mercedes has used to dominate F1 in recent years. The 1.6-liter V6, which would look small in any car, makes roughly 700 horsepower, largely because it cranks at 11,000 rpm. That’s roughly double whatever you drive (and a bit short of the F1 car’s 15,000 rpm), and just slow enough to give the engine the lifespan it’ll need in public hands. The Merc gets another 500 horsepower from three electric motors—one on each front wheel, the third integrated into the engine. A fourth motor spins the turbocharger to make sure when suede driving shoe meets pedal, there’s no lag in power delivery. The goodies don’t stop there. The Project One’s plugin hybrid system allows for torque vectoring, applying torque to any given wheel with more precision than you get in a conventional all-wheel-drive system—and makes for superior control in the tightest of corners. Good news when you’ve got 1,100 horsepower at your toe tips. For good measure, the hybrid drive system also gives you up to 20 miles of all-electric propulsion, for when you need to sneak out in the middle of the night with it or roll into emissions-hating city centers. Of course, F1 cars rely on more than a clever powertrain, and so does the Project One. Other tech helping goose things along includes a lightweight, high strength, carbon-fiber body similar to the one that races at the Monaco Grand Prix. A multilink suspension with push-rod spring struts smooths out body roll in hard cornering. Carbon wheels and carbon ceramic brakes help keep weight down and the car in control. One thing you won’t get: any of the semiautonomous capabilities Mercedes is pushing elsewhere. If that’s disappointing, this is not the robot driver you’re looking for. The car’s exterior design is heavy on the curves, a break from the angular looks in Mercedes’ recent vehicles. The doors open forward and up, because it ain’t a hypercar if the doors are regular. Plenty of intakes and vents help channel air around the car and cool the hotter bits, like the engine and brakes. The inlet above the roof transitions to a black shark fin, which—as with F1 cars—helps with lateral stability in the turns. Active front and rear spoilers also help keep the car pointing the right way when whipping through turns. Even the Project One’s interior mimics an F1 car, albeit with the addition of a passenger seat. The steering wheel comes with the host of multicolored buttons and dials real racers use. The form-fitting seats appear to be of a single piece, linked in the middle via a little hump. Displays include dual 10-inch hi-res LCDs, naturally. A camera-based rearview mirror system replaces the standard glass in the headliner. Mercedes says it will make just 275 of these gems—every one of them sold already—starting production in 2019. If you missed out, don’t worry. We’re pretty sure it’ll be available in dorm room.

Abu Banaat wrotes: ONE-ROOM APARTMENT, A NIGHTMARE TO WOMEN. When we say a face-me-i-face-you is a nightmare to women, it doesn't mean the malefolk see it as a paradise, no one ordinarily wishes for it, its like a mini-prison for both genders, however, its still more favourable for a bachelor than a couple. The following are d reasons why your wife keeps murmuring that you should get a better accommodation for her: 1) Every woman needs privace, infact they need it just like the air they breathe, she wants to be in her own world, in her kingdom, where she is d queen and her husband is d king and they have "no" citizens except their kids. 2) She needs a spacious home so that she can do her ijogbon with you witout outside interference especially if she is a young wife, but if all she is got is a tiny room, she can't enjoy herself or play hide and seek with you, when everywhere is so tight. 3) A woman needs privacy so that her mindset will be at ease during intimacy, she doesn't want a situation where she is moaning and still be doubting if the neighbours are hearing it or not. 4) If she lives in a large mansion, she doesn't have to wear hijab all day because there is much privacy, but if she lives in a tiny room, she has to wear hijab everytime she steps out for one menial thing or d other, hence she spends almost all day and night on hijab. 5) She has to bath very early before day break if the general bathroom has torn or tartered curtains, this could be emotionally disturbing and worse if its during harmattan. 6) Your wife won't feel comfortable when you both have intercourse in the same room with your kids while they are asleep. Rather than enjoying it, she will only endure it. 7) Your wife's interaction wit the neighbours or strange men may be uncontrollable as they will keep coming to beg her for matches, pepper and the likes. If your wife is a gentle type, many neighbours may step on her toes and make her weep silently, but if she is a rugged type, she will also display her free madness, bothcases are disastrous to her. 9) A woman needs privacy even when washing and spreading her undies, only a shameless woman spreads her undies in public without shame, if your wife has no alternative but to wash them and spread them in public, it will hurt her since every male neighbour sees the colour, shape and size of her undies. All this and more are the reasons why a woman needs privacy. Every one prays for comfort but not everyone gets it, even men need privacy too, but some men are not making efforts to get better accomodation for their wives. Accomodation is very vital in marriage, before you complain that your wife is materialistic, check how many among the basic needs you have provided for her. Work harder and don't be lazy or idle, do not put someone's daughter in hardship. Do not threaten her that you will marry a second wife, when your first wife can't even find a place to defecate except in a santana leather or in an uncompleted building. Polygyny isn't an automatic ticket to paradise. |
An extreme case of Post Partum depression, unfortunately she happens to be in Nigeria where illness of the mind are not really understood and they label her evil when what she really needs is some serious treatment herself....What an unfortunate situation. |

Mazda...oh...my dad's first car, like someone said, perceptions of Nigerians just don't favour Mazdas right now and the sins of some of their problematic older models, Mazda has greatly improved though...check Kelley blue book page and other auto sites and see how recent mazda models stack aginst the likes of honda, toyota and nissan...they have really uped their game, even beating these better known brands in some parameters. The new Mazda 6 is so agile ehn...better looking that many in it's class. Besides we like to go for the popular brands here, see how other noddles companies are struggling to compete against Indomie noddles, even Dangote had to bow ! |
It is safe to say many Nairalanders are more emotional than rational, proudly showing off ignorance and even insisting they are right, maybe some of you do not know the scope of work to be done and how much the almost a trillion naira is in dollars or even pounds, also considering most of the building materials would be sourced from abroad, the expats won't touch your naira and all the logistics involved....surely, a project like this would be cheaper in more developed countries but for ours...it's just gonna be higher. Sometimes i feel when i'm on nairaland, i am in the midst of kindergarten kids, what a far cry from what nairaland was in the late 2000's.. |
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has terminated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of firms to build the 4th Mainland Bridge at the cost of N844 billion. The MoU for the 36 km bridge, which two past administrations had promised to do, was signed on 25 May, 2016. The project was to be financed by Africa Finance Corporation, Access Bank, and other private investors who have already signified intention to be part of the construction, while Visible Assets Limited would be the coordinating firm. But Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr. Adebowale Akinsanya during a ministerial briefing in Alausa, Ikeja area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria cited the slow pace at which the concessionaire was working as the reason behind the termination of the contract. According to him, “due to slow pace of work, the contract was terminated. We are now looking at many investors, though interest is very high.” He said that investors had started scouting for the project from different parts of the world, though the state government had not decided on the proposals it had received. “The state government has started the proposals. We have such investors from South Korea, Europe and the United States, among few others. What we are doing now is vetting the proposals. We do not want to waste any further time. So works are in top progress on the 4th Mainland Bridge. “The investors would be named very soon, the state government will enter into concession agreement with appropriate investors that deliver the project,” he said. On the Airport road project, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infratructure, Engr. Temidayo Erinle said the state government was yet to obtain the federal government’s approval. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/ambode-cancels-n844b-lagos-4th-mainland-bridge/ |

seguno2:It is you that needs to think and stop being a dullard, massive looting in Lagos ?? hope you have empirical evidence for this, take it to the courts please. Plus you also can't be so dumb not to recognise that a state with 21 million people in a lopsided arrangement will struggle to provide ammenities for the population it has, yet this state still has the largest public water works in the country, some states don't even know what public water looks like. Mind you, i will be the last person to defend any politician but if you can settle down and think, you would realise Lagos carries the burden of a dysfuntional FG, the pressure on the state is ever growing, yet it does what it can with the resources available to it, how you are blind to that is what i don't get... Probably just good ol' bile you have in you. It is allowed. |
