PoliticsNIGERIA'S Loss Is SOUTH AFRICA'S Gain? by Makweembo(op): 8:02am On Jun 26, 2015
A report in Nigerian business newspaper ‘Hallmark’ has suggested that South Africa capitalised on the religious tourism value of Nigerian ‘Prophet’ T.B. Joshua during his recent birthday celebration in Johannesburg, at the expense of Nigeria.

In an article titled, ‘How South Africa earned huge foreign exchange from Joshua’s Birthday bash’, the report divulged that thousands of foreigners who would have visited Nigeria for the annual celebration on June 12th were redirected to South Africa who cashed in on the opportunity to welcome visitors from more than 10 African countries and project a positive image in the wake of the recent xenophobic violence.

According to Hallmark, when the event was held in Nigeria last year, more than 5,000 foreign pilgrims made their way into the country. Based on the statistics from the Nigerian Immigration Service, it was revealed that out of every 10 foreign travellers coming into country, six of them are bound for The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), which attracts 50,000 worshippers weekly.

Months after the backlash by Nigeria and other African countries against South Africa following the xenophobic violence on foreigners in the country, a tourism analyst who spoke with Hallmark said that the birthday was deliberately used by the country as a measure to mitigate the negative impact the attacks may have had on its tourism market.

According to Mr. Tomi Akingbogun, President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), it is regrettable that despite the impact of The SCOAN towards the growth of religious tourism in Nigeria, Pastor Joshua has been virtually neglected by the tourism board and ministry.

“Nigeria may have lost huge foreign exchange due to the relocation of the event but the government must learn to appreciate some of its greatest assets,” Akingbogun stated, adding that the building collapse at The SCOAN last year should not lead to Joshua’s ‘victimization’.

The event, which which was tagged ‘A Celebration Of Love’, was organised by relatives of the 84 South Africans who lost their lives in the infamous collapse of a guesthouse at Joshua’s church premises last year and survivors of the incident

Thembelihle Mamafa, speaking on behalf of the family members, stated at the event, “We know what happened to the building. They tried to bring him down but TB Joshua – you with God are the majority. The more the attack, the greater your strength”.

Surprisingly, Joshua has not been seen in public since his crusade in Mexico last month, giving rise to speculations he may be planning a permanent relocation abroad.

MY COMMENT:
If the Nigerian government really valued the tourism potential of TBJ, they would AT LEAST tidy up the roads leading from the airport to Ikotun. If that is the reflection visitors going to Synagogue take home about Nigeria, it is most certainly a BAD ONE!

PoliticsBuhari's Accent: A National Embarrassment by Makweembo(op): 8:36pm On Jun 14, 2015
I watched on SABC today when President Buhari addressed the congress at the African union.

His accent is ... terrible! I could barely understand what he said.

Even when the camera showed clips of the other delegates, they looked confused as Buhari was talking. And he had to stop every few minutes to drink water before reading further.

I admire Buhari's record but surely, he should be a figure helping government behind the scenes - and not a leader at the forefront. Most people would even need a translation of what he said to understand - the Hausa accent is so thick!

What do others think?
Christianity EtcTb Joshua’s Birthday Unites Africans by Makweembo(op): 9:22pm On Jun 13, 2015
On Friday 12th June 2015, thousands of Africans from more than 10 nations converged in South Africa to celebrate the birthday of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua.

The event, which was held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, South Africa, was dubbed ‘A Celebration Of Love’, a reference to Joshua’s popular slogan ‘let love lead’.

It comes just months after heated tensions between South Africa and several African countries over a spate of xenophobic violence against foreigners in the country.

Gospel artists VaShawn Mitchell, Loyiso Bala and opera singer Kimmy Skota entertained guests who were also treated to a buffet-style meal.

Relatives of the 84 South Africans who lost their lives in the infamous collapse of a guesthouse at Joshua’s church last year were among the organisers of the event, coupled with survivors of the tragic incident.

“We know what happened to the building,” insisted Thembelihle Mamafa speaking on behalf of family members of the ‘martyrs of faith’ before cutting a huge cake in honour of the ‘prophet’.

“They tried to bring him down but TB Joshua - you with God are the majority. The more the attack, the greater your strength,” she stated, to the applause of the crowd.

Among those who paid tribute to Joshua was Chief Victor Mditshwa, a Director at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

“What a timing of a celebration of a great man,” the South African government official stated.

“Yesterday, we were talking about xenophobia but today, we are talking about happiness. That can only happen when there are men of God in this world like TB Joshua.”

He also made reference to an alleged prophecy given by Joshua about the end of the violence.“Tomorrow, they will never talk about xenophobia in South Africa - it is gone because the man of God prophesied and spoke.”

Popular South African ‘Bishop’ Stephen Zondo from the ‘Rivers Of Living Waters Ministries’ also spoke of the unity the event had fostered within Africa.

“Tonight, your birthday, has just united all of us,” he stated.

“We had some tragedies and problems a few weeks ago but your birthday has done another miracle that the government and churches failed to do. Your birthday has brought us together!”

Representatives from the nations of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo stood up to give birthday greetings to Joshua.

US Gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell, amidst his performance, thanked God for the Nigerian cleric’s life.

“I was able to go to Mexico City to the crusade,” he told the crowd, referring to Joshua’s crusade last month at the Aztec Stadium which had an estimated 150,000 in attendance.

“My life was changed through the ministry of Prophet Joshua. I saw healing, deliverance - people set free right before my very eyes.”

Several government officials, traditional leaders and media celebrities were present at the occasion. A biographical video clip of Joshua’s early life and ministry was shown.

The celebration was broadcast live on Christian television network Emmanuel TV, followed by a similar event in Mexico where Colombian Gospel artist David Angel performed.

HUGE BIRTHDAY BASH ANNOUNCED FOR TB JOSHUA IN SOUTH AFRICA

A huge birthday celebration is set to be held in South Africa on Friday 12th June as Nigerian ‘Prophet’ TB Joshua turns 52.

An announcement posted on Joshua’s official Facebook page revealed that award-winning US Gospel Artist Vashawn Mitchell would be among those performing at the event.

The Nigerian cleric’s popularity in Southern Africa has shown no signs of waning, despite the tragic building collapse that claimed the lives of 84 South Africans in his church last year.

Indeed, family members of those who lost their lives and survivors of the incident are among those organising the celebration for Joshua, alongside ‘The SCOAN Family in Southern Africa’.

Joshua has uncannily not appeared in public since his crusade in Mexico last month.

It was announced on his Christian network Emmanuel TV yesterday that the cleric had arrived back in Nigeria over a week ago but was “waiting for God's command on what to do next”.

Speculations are rife that Joshua may soon be leaving Nigerian shores on a more permanent basis, fuelled further by the message yesterday which stipulated no birthday celebration would be held within Nigeria.

Nigeria’s tourism board will likely be unimpressed by the announcement as last year over 5,000 foreign pilgrims made the journey to Nigeria to celebrate with Joshua. Official figures revealed two years ago that 6 in every 10 visitors to Nigeria are bound for The SCOAN.

“I am not surprised TB Joshua does not want any celebration in Nigeria,” an aggrieved fan wrote on Joshua’s Facebook Page yesterday. “After all, they attacked his church and then tried to frame him in the court – what a disgrace.”

These pics are supposed to be on the front page of every Nigerian newspaper - which other Nigerian national could gather such a crowd in a foreign country and spread a positive message about Nigeria's image in the international community? However, TB Joshua has already left Mexico and most people in Naija don't even know something happened. What a shame!

Christianity EtcPICS - TB Joshua Gathers 200,000 In Mexico by Makweembo(op): 3:23pm On May 14, 2015
A Central American venue usually reserved for elite football matches and high-class concerts reverberated with a different sound last weekend - the sound of the 'supernatural'…

The prestigious Aztec Stadium in Mexico City played host to a ‘Miracle Crusade’ with renowned African Pastor T.B. Joshua on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May 2015.

The venue, which can hold well over 100,000 people, was filled with the sound of praise and worship led by American Gospel artists Cece Winans, VaShawn Mitchell and Alvin Slaughter, pre-empting the arrival of the Nigerian cleric, famed for his allegedly ‘miraculous’ exploits.

Joshua, who was on his first visit to Mexico, emphasised on love in a simple message he reiterated on both days of the crusade.

“Love has a language that transcends all languages, all barriers and all distance,” he told the crowd, his every word interpreted into Spanish.

“No wonder we are here today sharing the good news of the Gospel, irrespective of differences in language, tribe and race.”

Joshua then began ministering to the afflicted within the huge crowd, praying for dozens of wheelchair-bound invalids who immediately began walking, much to the delight of the spectators.

The cry of ‘Cristo vive’ meaning ‘Christ lives’ became the ‘anthem’ of the event, greeting each ‘miracle’ that unfolded as people threw away crutches, hearing aids and oxygen tanks at the prayer of the ‘prophet’.

Even a sporadic downpour of rain during the Friday event seemed unable to dampen the crowds spirits or hinder the cleric's movement.

T.B. Joshua, who has nearly 200,000 YouTube subscribers and is followed by 1.5 million people on Facebook, led the masses in prayer against spirits of ‘witchcraft’ during the crusade’s second day, the result bringing ‘holy pandemonium’ throughout the stadium.

Hundreds ‘possessed’ by evil spirits ended up sprawling on the floor while many more were shaking uncontrollably and vomiting out unusual substances.

“I am lucifer,” an attractive Mexican lady garishly cried out amidst the prayer as her body contorted, clearly under some uncannily dark influence.

“She seduces men with her eyes and destroys them,” Joshua informed the crowd before tapping the lady who fell instantly to the floor and then bewilderedly arose, thanking God for her ‘liberation’.

Mexican media called the event ‘unprecedented’, citing that such huge numbers of attendees were unheard of where the main draw was not a sporting event or musical celebrity.

“It is noteworthy that at all times, it was clarified that the glory was not for men but for the Almighty,” one Spanish journalist wrote in his online review of the event.

Joshua capped off his visit by addressing and praying for over 4,000 pastors and leaders at the World Trade Centre in Mexico City on Monday 11th May 2015.

Several of those who had been ‘healed’ at the crusade shared testimonies after which the Nigerian ‘Prophet’ guided some Mexican pastors in praying for the sick and ‘prophesied’ into their lives.

An estimated 200,000 people attended the two-day crusade, including dignitaries from 14 nations and several Mexican government officials.

Invited guests included nearly 30 family members of South Africans who tragically lost their lives in a building collapse at Joshua's church in Lagos in September 2014.

The event was also broadcast live on the Christian television network Emmanuel TV.

A clip of Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua arriving in the Central American nation of Mexico and the wild reaction of locals to his coming has been uploaded to YouTube.

Joshua, who rarely travels abroad, announced on his official Facebook Page that he will be holding a ‘Miracle Crusade’ in the world’s largest football stadium in Mexico City on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May 2015.

The clip, uploaded by Joshua’s official YouTube channel, shows crowds of Mexicans wildly jubilating as Joshua steps down from a vehicle after a military entourage had saluted his arrival.

The Aztec Stadium, which can hold well over 100,000 people, will play host to the two day event in the cleric’s first visit to Mexico.

The ‘crusade’ will be broadcast live on Joshua’s Christian television station Emmanuel TV and is billed to begin from 10pm (GMT) on Friday.

Joshua held a similar event in Cali, Colombia in July last year, attracting over 50,000 in attendance.

NIGERIAN POLITICIAN DELIVERED FROM SMOKING ADDICTION THROUGH EMMANUEL TV!
Hon. Joseph Bassey was a chronic smoker. This was not just an addiction – it was an obsession! For 21 years, he smoked in a continuous chain – it was his first action in the morning and his last at night. “It was only when I slept that I didn’t smoke,” the Nigerian politician explained. Even politically, the bad habit was an embarrassing hindrance. As a member of the Cross Rivers House of Assembly, he would be restless and rush to present his views so as to quickly leave the chambers and smoke. Being a popular figure in his community, his smoking habit was well known to everyone.

One fateful day, Hon. Joseph visited his sister’s house and discovered them watching a Christian television station. It was Emmanuel TV. Intrigued by the events he was watching, the Nigerian politician decided to install Emmanuel TV in his own house. The more he watched, the more his faith began to grow! One day as Prophet T.B. Joshua was praying for viewers, Hon. Bassey decided to reach out and touch the screen of his television. A strange sensation erupted within his system and he immediately rushed to the restroom. After passing out an unusual substance, Hon. Bassey felt different. It was if something had left him. From that day forward, smoking has become a thing of the past! “People even placed bets in my community as to when I would return to smoking,” the politician laughed, explaining that no one believed it was possible he could quit smoking. He added that his freedom from smoking has led him to introduce Emmanuel TV to multiple chain smokers in his community amazed at his transformation, many of them also receiving their deliverance from the addiction through Prophet T.B. Joshua’s prayers.

In addition, Hon. Bassey’s wife was diagnosed with a fibroid, rendering the couple childless. She had even travelled to India for an operation but still remained unable to conceive. After coming to The SCOAN and receiving the Anointing Water, he ministered it to his wife, praying that God would bless their home with a child. Shortly afterwards, his wife became pregnant and delivered a beautiful baby boy!

Finally, Hon. Joseph testified that was successfully re-elected to Cross Rivers House of Assembly in the recently concluded elections, adding that he was the only candidate in his state that ran an election without an opponent in the primaries. “The favour of God in my life since I came to know Emmanuel TV, Prophet T.B. Joshua and the Anointing Water is just too much,” he testified. Advising congregants, especially politicians, he stated that there can be no genuine success without God. “You need God's grace and guidance to serve in any capacity,” he said.

“The wound of one should be the wound of all. Whatever happens in any African country, we should come together – what can we do? What happens in Nigeria – every African should be concerned. Every African should be concerned with whatever happens in South Africa. We should see it as if it happens in our own country.

"The wound of one should be the wound of all. Every continent is like a human being. South Africa is a hand; Ghana is another hand. Nigeria may be a leg; Congo could be an eye. In the body, if anything happens to a part of it, the whole body will feel it.

TB Joshua - the greatest asset Nigeria has yet the most scorned and hated. What an irony!
Christianity EtcI Told Jonathan He Would Lose – TB Joshua by Makweembo(op): 9:43pm On Apr 05, 2015
Controversial cleric of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, T.B. Joshua, on Sunday said he told the outgoing Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, that he would lose last week’s presidential election.

Mr. Joshua said he sent his message to the President several week before the election.

“I want to use this moment to congratulate Nigerians in our midst here,” Mr. Joshua began in a message to his multi-national congregation, televised live via his Christian network Emmanuel TV.

Alluding to his prediction a week to the election that the dark cloud he saw covering Nigeria was lifting, he said that a bloody ‘war’ would have ensued if not for the prompt concession of power by President Jonathan.

“Look, Nigeria wanted change – everyone was yearning for change. An attempt to stop change leads to war, to a bloodbath… If Nigeria knows what we have overcome, we would dance,” Mr. Joshua said.

Mr. Joshua praised Mr. Jonathan’s tenure insisting that he had served his nation well despite the immense security challenges.

“I really want to salute President Jonathan. The President has served; he has done his best. It was just the season of crisis – and unfortunately he found himself at the lead in the season of crisis ,” he said.

The cleric said ‘God’ spoke to him with a message for Mr. Jonathan several weeks before the general elections.

He said God told him -“This message should be delivered to your president, that whatever the outcome of this election, his regime has come to an end. He should accept to save the lives of millions,” he told the congregation.

Mr. Joshua claimed he called Mr. Jonathan by phone, adding that he had previously shared with him many revelations about Nigeria which eventually came to pass.

Insisting the seriousness of the revelation was such that it had to be relayed personally so as not affect votes, Mr. Joshua said Mr. Jonathan promptly sent a close aide to meet the cleric.

After the presidential aide had worshipped at his church during a Sunday service, Mr. Joshua said he met him and relayed the revelation that Mr. Jonathan’s regime had come to an end. “Soft landing – that is the language I sent to the president,” he told attendees.

Mr. Joshua described President Jonathan as a man who ‘has a heart for God’, revealing that he even spoke with the Nigerian president shortly before his historic concession call to President-elect Mr. Buhari.

“I said to him, ‘Your Excellency – all you need to say is thank You, Jesus, even when it seems there is nothing to be thankful for. He said, ‘Thank you, man of God’. Before I knew it, I saw the news on CNN that he had congratulated his opponent ,” Mr. Joshua said.

He prayed that people from the ‘South-South’ region in Nigeria where President Jonathan hails from would understand that ‘their son has become a hero’, adding that his actions prove the region is after a united Nigeria.

Mr. Joshua reminded his congregants that he had given a similar message in 2010 to Laurent Gbagbo, the former President of Ivory Coast.
“In a vision, I saw crisis – thousands of people being killed in Ivory Coast – just because of the outcome of the election,” he said to congregants.

After sending the message across to the then Ivorian leader, a delegation of government figures and presidential aides was dispatched to Nigeria.

“I told them that whatever the outcome of the election – whether the popular or unpopular voice of people – our President should concede. His regime has come to an end,” Joshua reminisced.

According to the cleric, Mr. Gbagbo had personally called him regarding the prediction, looking for an avenue to avert it and inviting him to Ivory Coast. Joshua insisted that nothing more could be done.

When Mr. Gbagbo refused to concede power to Alassane Ouattara in the controversial 2010 elections, a bloody onslaught ensued leading to the deaths of thousands and his eventual incarceration and public disgrace.

Mr. Joshua also told his faithful how he had personally warned MKO Abiola that God was not backing his presidency in the ill-fated Nigerian elections of 1993 despite overwhelming public support in his favour.

He further recalled how, as a young man, he met the former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, and told him that his beloved daughter was close to the grave. Both revelations came to pass, he said.

The cleric added that his prophetic ministry is the reason he does not take sides in politics. “That is why I don’t belong to any party. All the parties are my own. I love everyone. If I belong to this party and the message of God is now against that party, how will I present it – when no one knows the mind of God? It is better I am free to deliver God’s message.”

He said that material gain was not his mission and that no exchange of money can be involved when it comes to spiritual matters such as prophecy.

“I am a material to be used that will not cost you any money. I am afraid to collect money from you because if I collect it, it will affect the gift and grace of God in my life.”

Mr. Joshua prayed for the new government to be led by the All Progressives Congress. “Join me to pray for the new government, headed by President-Elect Buhari. Ask God to give our President a hearing heart – a heart that will listen to what the public is saying and want to know God’s opinion,” he said.
