@Sheniqua

Mpele and Malaika are two different people with very different opinions on this matter. I posted the pictures of our police at work, not Mpele. And I stand by my original post on this matter, that I do not condone, support or back in any way the killing of Africans by other Africans. In fact, right now I am so ashamed to be South African. Our radio talk shows are abuzz with SA callers who are feeling depressed and ashamed to be SAn right now because of these mindless attacks. And yes, it is true that many Black South Africans are brainwashed into thinking that they are better than other Africans, I don't know how that works - it's laughable really - but yah, it's there and it's bloody annoying and embarrassing. As an South African woman married to a Zambian i.e. a so-called "foreigner" in SA, I am the last person to start spewing xenophobic rubbish on any forum. Again, not all of us are like Mpele. I realise nothing can be said by me that can make y'all think any better of South Africans in general, but there's nothing I can do about that so I won't spend any sleepless nights but I will pray for peace to reign and for SAns to see the light.

Mpele:
Londoner is right, if our government does'nt act South Africa will have a civil war. Signs are already there. For instance the Sotho speaking group is found in SA and Lesotho, the Tswana group in SA and Botswana, the Shaangans in both SA and Mozambique and the Ndebele and the Zulus are also found in Zimbabwe. This means that we are attacking our brothers. Even now Ndebele South Africans are being attacked.

South African Indians who are approx; 4 Million have had a good relationship with black South Africans, but now guese what? they are now also being attacked by these raging lunatics. I'm saying that it should happen but I ask myself on why white people are not attacked. I'm telling you if white people where attacked, Britain and the USA would've been the first to condemn. Our government would've unleashed the army into the townships.

Now they're just saying oh! these are lowly litttle Africans, (Lets just send in a bunch of policemen with rubber bullets). This country used to be in the good hands of the white government and also Nelson Mandela. To tell the truth, our lives used to be so nice during the apartheid era. I was born in that era, and I'm telling you, we used to move freely, no crime to speak of. During the white government the influx of foreigners was controlled. Nigerians who were here, were the ones who came to work. For instance I can't just come to Nigeria without a purpose. I must come there to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
Mpele, awume kancane bo. You can't seriously be thinking that! shocked How soon we forget! Police are now using rubber bullets to disperce the marauding crowds. Don't you remember a time when live ammunition was used to disperse crowds, when police had carte blanche to shoot indiscriminately at anything black that moved? The country may have seemed to be in good hands because the government only cared about 10% of the population while the other 90% was considered less than human. Was it in good hands because you were not allowed to swim where you liked? Not allowed to study want you wanted to at Varsity? Eat where you wanted? and even move around your country freely without a dompas? Anyway, let me not start but please don't let me hear you say that again!

I agree though that sooner or later SAns will turn on themselves, there will be an inter-tribal war.

For whatever it's worth, I as a S.African along with everyone that I've talked to about this, am appalled, embarrassed, hurt, depressed and damn angry about what's happening here.  cry  I haven't heard many incidences of Nigerians being at the receiving end of this but I'm sure there are some that have been attacked. Mainly we hear of attacks on Zims, Malawians & Mozambiques as they are the ones living in informal settlements alongside other poverty stricken SAns. There are a lot of things to blame but first and foremost the government is to blame. We have been living with other African immigrants for years now with no problems, but recently had an influx of millions of Zimbabweans fleeing the situation in Zim. What the gov should've done was to create proper refugee camps and gave them asylum, but they did nothing! Every day thousands of Zims and Mozambicans cross the border illegally risking crocodile infested rivers in the North and Big 5 territory in the East and these people are ending up in informal settlements where already the situation is dire with poverty and lack of services. These refugees then have to compete with locals for whatever scraps are to be found - they do jobs for half the wages that locals would do them and so obviously people hire immigrants instead of locals. Our gardener is Malawian, my friends' nannies are Zimbabwean etc and yes, they work hard and do not expect Pension funds or unemployment fund unlike locals (can't blame the locals for this anyway, it is their right). People should ask themselves why this situation is happening now. Why not 10, 5 or even 2 years ago? The only major change that has occurred is the sudden and unbridled influx of millions of refugees that have been incorporated into an already struggling society. Whatever the cause, there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of evil backlash from S. Africans.

And just by the way, it is not only foreigners that are now being attacked but also minority language groups like the Venda, Shangaan and also SA women who are married to foreigners (like me). cry  It might not be worth much but I apologise sincerely for whatever is happening to Nigerians and other foreigners in my country. And the stupid thing is that we have white foreigners too but these blockhead criminals only attack other black people - self-loathing at its best. angry
