In population studies there's what they call "push"and "pull" factors. You only run away when something is pushing you or pulling you. Your erosion-laden enclave is what's pushing you, and the benefits you'll get in the north is what's attracting you. Satisfied needs don't motivate. If you're okay with what obtains in Alaigbo, you'll not be running helter skelter all over Nigeria trying to claim lands that don't not belong to you. I am a 100% Buhari supporter. But the day he surrounds himself with mediocres, allows any of his lieutenants hoodwink him(without punishing him), or refuses to take responsibility for his govt is the day I'd agree he's lost it. I rate sincere leadership above any other thing. We'll never get to anywhere with bad leadership. We'll be here, hoping Buhari doesn't forget where he's coming from. And we'll be good followers, praising when due and pointing out when in error.

As for other things, it's all about protecting one's values. If you throw a stone at my father's house, I'll throw it back at yours before the judge comes in. With some Igbos, they like picking at other people, as if God has domiciled permanently in eastern Nigeria. No one understands why! But you have to return it. If not, it will continue. GEJ is limited by capacity to proffer a solution to a practice that has been there for over 400 years. How many thousands of Almajiri schools can he build? Why should the Almajiri be treated differently? Who is even an Almajiri? At least I have a degree in Western education, would I reject the Amajiri tag in it's real meaning? Is Dangote or Kwankwaso an Almajiri? What's the Almajiri's view of himself and you? Is Almajiri only a beggar? Aren't there beggars elsewhere? Are they Almajiri too?

Don't expect an easy answer. The almajiri is not necessarily somebody who doesn't go to Western school. You'll be surprised that those who were once Almajiris constitute a significant number of the richest and the most educated people from the north.

which legislators are you talking about, federal or state? if federal, of what use then are your state legislators?? in parts of this country, it is an offense for a child to be seen outside school with or without uniforms during school hours. the parents pay fines for that to edu-marshals, I witnessed that in delta state. keep waiting for federal government ko?

If you're limited in your knowledge of what the law can do, at whatever level, then you'll never understand where I am going.

I agree that the conventional schools there should be upgraded and helped but the issue of passing any legislation that will force almajiri to go school is out of it, it can never happen, northerners will fight tooth and nail to make sure it never happen. Seriously I have been there, and the vibe and their spoken words made it clear that they don't intend to do away with that culture as they call it, in fact they will warn off anyone that will want to interfer with that their almajiri system.

I am sorry to say this, it would be difficult to transform a lot of people in that region no matter how much is invested. Their major problem is MENTALITY. For sustainable transformation to come to that region, they should start by working on their minds!

One of you, not us. GEJ should take his almajiri schools elsewhere. We don't need it. The conventional schools should be helped and legislations enacted that will make it an offence for a child not to be in school.
