The presidency has shortlisted an Assistant Inspector General of Police from Nasarawa State as a possible replacement of the retiring Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police Idris, who clocks 60 years on Jan. 15 paid “a bye-bye visit’’ to President Buhari on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja in a closed door meeting. However, the outcome of the closed door meeting was not disclosed as at the time of filing this report.

According to reports, Idris is expected to retire from service on attainment of the mandatory 35 years in service or 60 years of age.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has raised the alarm that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris was after his life.

Saraki who is the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) addressed a press conference this evening in Abuja, where he called on the international authorities to hold Idris responsible if anything bad happened to him or members of his family.

Saraki said the IGP has tried “several tricks to implicate” him in some criminal charges, the first being the arrest of some cultists who were being compelled to claim they worked for him.

“Later, he went on to the Offa robbery case and politicized the investigation in order to rope me. In the process of forcing suspects to implicate me, the principal suspect died in their custody. He has also not succeeded with that plot. Who knows what else he may have planned?” he asked.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council in Kogi State has described as fictitious, unfounded and tendentious, claims that the party has abandoned the spokesman of the council and senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, in his hour of need.
Melaye, surrendered to the police after an eight-day siege to his residence by the Nigeria Police Force, who are bent on getting him to answer to the case of attempted culpable homicide over the shooting of a Police officer, Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF), the incident reportedly took place while the officer on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State, on July 19, 2018.

Days after he gave himself up, an ailing Melaye was whisked away from the police hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving treatment by masked security operatives on Friday.

Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, claimed Melaye was moved to a health facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) following complaints that his condition was not improving. He was yesterday moved to the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) office in Guzape District, Abuja.

“The police investigation team obtained a 14 day remand warrant from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on January 9, 2019, to keep Senator Dino Melaye in police custody for investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him till 23rd January, 2019.

National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu on Friday stated that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar abandoned Lagos State when he was in office.

The former Lagos governor said Atiku, then vice president, failed to act when the Obasanjo government seized the state’s local government allocation.

Tinubu spoke in Abuja when he received the representatives of traditional rulers from South West States led by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

“Atiku was Vice President of this country when the local government allocation for Lagos state was seized. When we led a protest to Atiku then, he said go away. Go and comply.

Abuja – Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) says he would defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Feb. 16 presidential poll.

Following the agreement between Federal Government and lecturers, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend the ongoing strike.

On Monday, January 7, 2019, the Federal Government reached an agreement with ASUU leaders in a meeting held in Abuja.

According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who was also at the meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N20billion, to offset the outstanding arrears of the 2009 to 2012 verified earnings in the universities.

Ngige added that earned allowances will be released to ASUU as soon as the process is completed.

Despite the agreement between both parties, ASUU president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, while speaking with journalist after the meeting said the strike would not be called off.

Ogunyemi said the strike could only be called off after the union’s NEC meeting. He however, did not state when the meeting will hold.

NANS has now urged ASUU to call off the strike having reached an agreement with the government.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by the NANS president, Comrade Bamidele Akpan, the student body accused the lecturers of not pursuing the interest of Nigerian students.

The Coalition of United Political Parties on Wednesday, reacted to the melee that ensued between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at the rally of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos yesterday.

It also announced the donation of N500,000 to the journalists injured during fracas.

A statement issued to journalists in Abuja by the coalition’s first national spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said the donation was meant for the medical treatment of the injured journalists.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the National Peace Committee to act on an alleged violation of the peace accord signed by presidential candidates in December 2018 by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The pact was signed at the instance of former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Bishop Mathew Kukah and other eminent public figures.

A statement on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, accused the PDP presidential campaign organisation of bad faith, character assassination and inflammatory utterances.

Shehu noted that the open and unsubstantiated allegations against the President’s family by the Atiku Abubakar media campaign contravened the spirit of the peace accord.

Addressing party faithful at the campaign, Abiodun, said his administration would be committed to keeping all his electoral promises, if he emerges the next governor of the state.

He stressed that his administration is desirous of implementing all programmes as contained in his policy documents and promised to return power to chairmen of all local governments in the state.

Lagos State Police Command has declared Mustapha Adekunle, aka Seigo, wanted for attempting to put confusion in the APC rally held at Skypower Ground, Ikeja, on Tuesday.

Seigo, an NURTW chieftain, was said to have attended the rally with his supporters.

However, at the conclusion of the event, Seigo and his group, the Police said, violently engaged other supporters of the party.

In the ensuing melee, one MC Oluomo, another NURTW chieftain, was stabbed and was rushed to EKO Hospital where he is currently recuperating, while two other victims of the attack were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Former Director General of the State Security Service, Mr. Ita Ekpeyong has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission four hours after he was taken to the headquarters of the anti-graft agency.

Mr. Ita Ekpeyong who is regarded one of the finest officers that the agency has ever produced, was released when the commission could not pin down any incriminating material to him in the course of its investigation into how some funds were used in the run-up to the 2015 election. The commission is said to have invited the former Director General of the State Security Service with a view to determine whether he was involved in any way in the use of the alleged funds either for election or arms acquisition.

The police Tuesday morning blocked the Senate President Bukola Saraki’s convoy at Lake Chad junction along Saraki’s resident in Abuja.
He was reportedly on his way to report to the police headquarters upon the last night invitation by the police.



The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on Monday asked Saraki to appear at the office of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office in Abuja, over the robbery incident that took place in Offa, Kwara state, in April this year.

Heavy rain yesterday left City College Owerri in a shadow of itself. the college that was recently constructed and commissioned by Rochas administration was swept away by the rain.

The ugly incident caused a serious panic in the neighborhood, when the iron logging and the roof of the building where completely pulled off from the building destroying many power lines, trapped many vehicles and blocked the entire street.

Following the conclusion of ward, local and state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo, Mr Osita Okechukwu, Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a chieftain of the party has advised Gov. Rochas Okorocha to leave the party if he so desire.

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has denied having any connection with the robbery that took place in Offa, a town in Kwara State.

Earlier on Sunday, the police had summoned Saraki after some of the suspects who confessed to the crime, had indicted him.

Five gang leaders had claimed that they were political thugs of the Senate President and the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, hence the invite.

But in a statement released hours later by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President described the allegations as “baseless” and “another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means”.

According to him, when the incident happened, he was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place after which he also put a call through to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to make the necessary security arrangements.

The Senate has set up a nine-member committee to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on an allegation that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, is trying to implicate the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The lawmakers arrived at this decision after a lengthy deliberation.

Mr Saraki on Wednesday told his colleagues that the police chief had transferred some criminal suspects undergoing interrogation in Kwara to Abuja to make statements to implicate him.

Commenting on the issue, Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos-APC) and Philip Aduda (FCT-PDP) suggested that a joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives be constituted because Mr Saraki is the chairman of the National Assembly.

The budget was passed after the appropriation committees of the senate and the house of representatives moved for its consideration.

In November, President Muhammadu Buhari presented to a joint session of the national assembly a proposed sum of N8.6 trillion for 2018.

The president had proposed N3.5 trillion as recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, while N2.4 trillion was earmarked for capital expenditure.
