Though not much is known about the children of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, even the grown ups among them may have deliberately shunned the limelight It is ironic that not much is known about the children of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who has remained a hero both in life and in death. This is very rare in a country where the children of the rich and famous usually refuse to walk in the shadows of their parents in business, politics, as well as the social circuit. Perhaps, the only thing about Ojukwu’s family that is in the public domain is his controversial marriage to Bianca, a union that was vehemently opposed by late Christian Onoh, her father and former governor of the old Anambra State, on the grounds that the late Ojukwu was Bianca’s godfather and much older. But in spite of all the efforts of Onoh to stop the late Ojukwu from taking his daughter’s hand in marriage, the duo went ahead and got married. She is the late Ikemba’s third wife and the union produced three children, namely Afamefuna and Chidubem, who are twins, and Nwachukwu, the last boy. Bianca and the late Ojukwu got married in 2001. Ojukwu’s first marriage was to Njideka Ojukwu, née Onyekwelu, from Onitsha, Anambra State. Njideka and the former warlord had three issues from the marriage, which was consummated in 1964. They are Emeka, Nmeya and Okigbo. But all of them have been keeping a low profile. The only time Emeka, Ojukwu’s first son, came to the limelight was earlier this year when he could no longer stomach the intrigues and politics being played with his father’s ill-health by some individuals who issued statements he considered untrue. Then, some members of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, had claimed at different fora that the late Ikemba “was recuperating and would soon return to the country.” Countering such claims, the young Ojukwu explained that his father’s condition was “as bad as not being able to talk, write or in any position to communicate his thoughts to anybody.” Convinced that such statements from political associates were pregnant with political undertone, he frowned at the “conduct of a few persons who have continued to drag the name of my father into politics, especially at this most trying moment when he is not in any position to respond to what is being said or done in his name.” That was perhaps the last time he made a public statement on his father’s health condition until his death a fortnight ago. Emeka is currently living in Abuja. He had worked with the Anambra State government before moving on to the Federal Capital Territory. But his other siblings, Nmeya and Okigbo, are resident in the United States and United Kingdom, UK respectively. Emeka’s mother, Njideka, died a few years ago. While in exile, the late Ikemba who did not take his first wife along married his second wife, Stella, nee Onyeado. That affair was also fruitful as it resulted in the birth of Ojukwu’s second daughter, Ebele, who reportedly relocated from her base in the UK to Enugu to take care of the late warrior before he was flown to the UK for treatment. She was said to have been the one that stayed by his side all through his trying period. For those who knew him, the late Ojukwu loved and cared for his women. He respected and valued them just as he respected and valued himself. Though record has it that he had three wives, there was never a time he lived with more than one wife. In fact, close associates said his marriage to more than one wife was actually necessitated by circumstances. But while living with each of them, he showered his love as though there was no other woman in his life. For instance, Njideka was said to have had a lot of influence on him even in the days when he led the Biafran war. Similarly, the late Ojukwu also showered so much love on Bianca to the point that she once said that it was Ojukwu, not she, that was more romantic. With the role he played in Nigeria, especially during the war, one would have expected that the children of late Ojukwu would be prominent in political circles. But that is not so. Apparently, this may be due to the fact that most of them are not resident in the country and also because Bianca’s children are still young. It may also be that the children are apolitical. Since his confinement in the United Kingdom, where Ojukwu was admitted on December 23, 2010, after suffering a stroke, Bianca’s voice has been the one that was heard all through, thanking the Igbo and well-wishers for their prayers which sustained him while in hospital. Besides, Bianca had been briefly appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Diaspora Affairs. But whether in politics or not, Bianca has made a name as Ojukwu’s wife and obviously revels in her own achievements. Before she got married, she had won the 1988 edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant while in her second year as a law student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu campus, Enugu State. After that, she also won Miss Africa and Miss Intercontinental pageants respectively. Having practised law briefly, Bianca decided to box in her robe and wig and delve into fashion business. She established Bianca Blend, a skin and cosmetics manufacturing company, as well as Mirabella, an interior decorating business. But as she once said, she devotes more time to Hope House Trust, her non-governmental organisation, which has set for itself the task of rehabilitating juvenile offenders. The fact that Ojukwu’s children are not scrambling for power may have been one of the legacies left for them by their father. While his name would continue to echo, especially when the issue of the Nigerian civil war is discussed, the late Ikemba did not make a successful politician though he founded APGA. Perhaps, to avoid recording that, his children have chosen to steer clear of politics. Uwagba Ojike, a 75-year-old former headmaster from Enugwu Ukwu, Anambra State, believes that they are actually following their father’s footsteps. His words: “They may not be in politics because they may have considered it ‘dirty’ in their own judgment. So far, I think his children have chosen the right path of integrity and hard work. Those are the things I knew Ojukwu for and I believe they are good legacies for anyone to leave for his children.” |
Yoruba people and their culture of celebrating thieves, murders, scammers, fraudsters, know public enemies.am not surprised anyway how ACN(scam party) has used fake Awo's legacies to scam them.that why you have the likes of arege, ajimobi, tinuole, and the rest.Am sure they will celebrate OBJ and call him a hero when his time reaches too. Foolish people. |
Just as you fear the North, the West also fears the North. The soldiers in the North are occupying the West.IMO i think this is the main reason why they had to betray biafra.because the northern solders were in the west and they feared that if they supported biafra, they will loss.they only played to their own interest. I don't blame them though but i think the Yorubas need to summon courage in the face of oppression/injustice because there are times when diplomacy don't work.and i think that is what made AU a laughing stock in the Libya crisis(thinking diplomacy would have made Gaddafi step down;like it's is also happening in Syria) this is for us to learn from our past mistakes, look for a better future and also to always know who your true friends are. RIP OJUKWU. |

From Nazifi Dawud Khalid, Maiduguri A bomb planted by suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect and allegedly targeted at a Joint Task Force (JTF) patrol vehicle exploded today around 1pm opposite MRS filling station located about a hundred meters away from the Media Trust Office on Baga road, Maiduguri. The impact of the explosion rocked many buildings around its vicinity including the Media Trust building, throwing many residents of the area into panic although no casualties were recorded in the blast. The explosion was immediately followed by warning shots fired by operatives of the JTF who immediately mobilized to the scene to chase the attackers away. This reporter who was at the DPR headquarters for an event at the time of the blast learnt that activities at Baga road were crippled for a while before normalcy eventually returned. “Many of us were forced to lie face down at the hearing the sound of gunshots which followed the blast”, Abdullahi, A security guard at Daily Trust told this reporter. The JTF Field Operations Commander Col. Victor Ebheleme who confirmed the incident said everything is under control. “We are aware of the incident but everything is under control. Official: 5,000 flee central Nigeria violence (AP) LAGOS, Nigeria — At least 5,000 people have fled villages in central Nigeria at the heart of clashes between nomadic cattle herders and farmers, officials said Thursday, as at least five people have died in the fighting. Authorities acknowledged there could be many more deaths in the violence hitting rural Benue and Nasarawa states in Nigeria's fertile central belt, a dividing line in the country between religious and ethnic groups. However, the remote villages remain difficult to reach and government officials appear hesitant to publicize details of the attacks at risk of inflaming a region where such clashes remain common. The fighting began this week as Muslim Fulani cattle herders found some of their livestock dead, said Conrad Wergba, Benue state's information commissioner. The cattle herders retaliated by attacking villages of the Christian Tiv ethnic group in both Benue and Nasarawa states, he said. "It is an occurring problem," Wergba said. "There is this conflict each time their cattle destroy the Tiv farmland during grazing." A combined force of police and military moved into the areas to guard the area, he said. Benue State police spokesman Ejike Alaribe said at least five people had died in the attacks, though he acknowledged that was all authorities could confirm on their own in the remote villages. "That's official figures, but some others died but not in this our state," Alaribe said. "It's a remote area. Most of the things that happen, they don't feel like going to report them to the appropriate authorities. , It could be more." Victoria Monde, the information commissioner of Nasarawa state, referred questions to an employee who refused to give his name, but said the government had given food to refugees in multiple camps. Both the employee and Monde declined to comment further. The Tiv represent one the largest of the minority ethnic groups in Nigeria, a nation of more than 160 million people and more than 250 different ethnicities. Benue state has seen previous clashes in the past between them and other groups over land issues. In 2001, during one of the worst spates of violence, Nigeria's federal government sent soldiers to the region that killed 200 villagers in a massacre after local militants killed military members. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-501710_162-57334534/official-5000-flee-central-nigeria-violence/ |

You are obviously an ignorant Nigeria who underestimates the prowess of the Ndigbo.Igbo are in every best military around the world and biggest arms dealer in West Africa and are waiting to defend Baifra when necessary.Nigeria should not provoke Ndigbo to start biafra liberation phase two because we will wipe out Nigeria in 7 days.My direct cousin is in the us navy and my ex roommate in school also join his elder brother in the army.we have alot of them.they should not mess with us this time around cos its gonna be bloody. |
Confession of a witchdoctor Gowon has made himself biggest fool of the year.Ojukwu's Death must really be dealing with him.all this statement he is making is indirectly tell you he regretted the civil war and the aftermath.his guilt is pinching him so he is try to make up with words and seek forgiveness.he wants to die peacefully and be honored so he wants to make up for all his past mistakes. when he was doing it to divide the south eastern states he did not know he was dividing Nigeria there more.am should he would also regret not accepting aburi conference report I forgive me sha and i beg all my Biafran brothers to do so too, cos one thing is to do wrong and another thing is to realize that it is wrong and also seek for pity. ASfterall we are children of God and not usman dan fodio's This vindicates and make Ojukwu more a Hero, i really pity his situation children of biafra are finally smiling.guilty conscence don dey worry the man.but let him know that no leader dead or alive and in the nearest future will beat Ojukwu's heroism so long as Nigeria still exist. |

Britain, Amnesty International Berates Nigeria’s Anti Gay Law Britain and Amnesty International, the world human right organization, have opposed the passing into law of the law against homosexuality in Nigeria with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Lloyd, declaring that Britain would not condone such an action against a set of people who have chosen to live their lives the way the liked. Amnesty International has also asked President Goodluck Jonathan to use his veto power to throw away the bill since, according to them, it is anti-human right and not popularly accepted around the world. The Senate had Tuesday passed a law banning the public practice of homosexuality with the bill it signed into law stipulating a 14-year jail term for anyone who goes ahead to marry same sex and another 10 syear for any accomplice or anyone who goes ahead to assist in the process leading to such marriage. The Senate President, David Mark, had claimed that the practice was against his faith as a Christian and warned the West to desist from interfering in the law making process of the country, which to him, should be allowed to run its independence without interference. His statement was in reference to the threat by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, that the country may cease its aids to Nigeria if the bill was passed. However, Lloyd, in reaction to the stand of the Senate said his country would not tolerate the action of the Senate. Speaking after a courtesy call on the Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, the British High Commissioner said though every country has a right to practice its cultural and religious beliefs, the laws punishing expression of one’s sexuality should not be a yardstick for reprimanding or changing such individuals. "It is wrong to punish people for mere expression of their relationships or for choosing to become what they have chosen for themselves. Punishment is infringement upon their fundamental human rights and the Western countries would not condone the action," he said. Amnesty International said it had called on the Nigerian government previously to stop going ahead with the bill, which is now expected to go before the House of Representatives for approval, after which the President would give his assent. The body described its punishment as harsh and an opposition to the basic rights and freedom of individuals. The organisation's Director of the Africa Programme, Erwin van der Borght, who spoke on behalf of the body, said: "Nigeria’s House of Representatives should show leadership and uphold the rights of all in Nigeria by rejecting this reprehensible bill. If passed, this measure would target people on the basis of their identity, not merely their behaviour and put a wide range of people at risk of criminal sanctions for exercising basic rights and opposing discrimination based purely on a person’s actual or presumed sexual orientation or gender identity." Amnesty International also raised concerns that individuals could face imprisonment based mere assumption of sexual orientation or gender identity, or as a result of allegations about their relationship status or consensual sexual conduct. It also said the action would frustrate Nigeria’s efforts to prevent HIV transmission since the law would further force homosexuals to continue to operate in secret. "By aiming to single out and deprive the rights of one group of people, this bill threatens all Nigerians by violating the country’s Constitution and international human rights obligations. This bill would have a chilling effect on a range of civil society organisations and events while inciting hatred and violence against anyone suspected of practising same-sex relationships, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people," Erwin van der Borght http://huhuonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3892:british-govt-amnesty-international-berates-nigeria-law-against-homosexuality&catid=103:more-news |
@ OP Ojukwu this,Ojukwu that.See Ojukwu is dead and Gone. His legacies will forever live with his people.what have your leaders done for you.Am sure if OBJ,IBB,GOWON,DANJUMA and the rest walk on the streets, they will be stoned to death by their people.because they have chosen gold over a good name Atleast Awo tried,he gave his people a legacy(free education, equity and justice + betrayal and tribalism which is common among his people.) What legacies did OBJ gave(Inbreeding, corruption, murder, adultery, occultism, lunatisim, genocide the list is endless). Gowon(stupidity, carelessness, indecision, mumuboy for Hausa/fulani,Illiteracy,corruption,state creation, murder, genocide, violence in jos which are now hunting him and his people. his list is endless also IBB ( same as obj) Danjuma(same as gowon) Ojukwu(selflessness, leadership, strength, hope for his people, justice, brotherliness, solidarity, self confidence which is often seen as pride, fearlessness,Africanism which fela also calmours for, invention, self reliant, contentment, hard work, equity and justice, fight against corruption, racism, tribalism and oppression)you can read more on him if you haven't This is a strong motivational word from him and i qoute “In the three years of war, necessity gave birth to invention. During those three years, we built bombs, we built rockets, we designed and built our own delivery systems. We guided our rockets, we guided them far, and we guided them accurately. For three years, blockaded without hope of imports, we maintained engines, machines, and technical equipment. The state extracted and refined petrol, individuals refined petrol in their back gardens, we built and maintained airports, we maintained them under heavy bombardment. We spoke to the world through a telecommunications system engineered by local ingenuity. The world heard us and spoke back to us. We built armored cars and tanks. We modified aircraft from trainer to fighters, from passenger aircraft to bombers. In three years of freedom, we had broken the technological barrier. In three years, we became the most civilized; the most technologically advanced black people on earth.” - Ojukwu's quotes, in Kansas City PostWar is war.people must die.the war was inevitable.by the way his people lost the most and they are not complaining rather they are praising him.so why are you killing your self over him? IBB,GOWON,OBJ and the rest have not kill their people in a war but still the don't have the love of their people.they will be sorrowful even in death because of the atrocities they have committed against the children of God. if you are not happy with Ojukwu.shut up and face your own life, find how you will be a better person to yourself, family, community and nation in general especailly in this harsh economic times rather than condemn the dead when you know you will die one day. come day, come night.Ojukwu legacies will always be with his people and for those that feel insulted by the praises Ojukwu is getting, they should go and bury their heads in shame.we shall see the praises they will get in their own time.i don't wish them death cos i pray to live long also. BTW,if you don't,know the more trend people open on Ojukwu the more important him becomes.if he is not,you will not open a trend on him.you opened a trend on him(ojukwu) to draw attention to your self which show how popular and heroic he is. since the announcement of his death if you have not observed, the media has been using his name to sell their news which, will tell you he is the most celebrated military personnel.dead or alive(Celeb 4 u) stop whining on issue that are beyond you and you can't change so get a life. |
BY CHIDI NKWOPARA OWERRI—Imo State Government has said it would soon unveil its Gas Masterplan, Phase 1, estimated to cost about $2billion, covering 8 years investment span. Governor Rochas Okorocha stated this during Imo International Gas Round table with the theme, Gas to Wealth, held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri. Represented by his Deputy, Sir. Jude Agbaso, the governor recalled that in his previous meeting with oil and gas operators, he had pledged to offer free site and certificate of occupancy to potential investors, facilitate their licences and permits and provide incentives and security to them. He said the roundtable offered a platform for deliberating on and formulating appropriate gas policies that would ensure enhanced investments, generate employment opportunities, stimulate Imo State economy and attract foreign investors. The state Commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Steve Ahaneku, disclosed that Imo state had a gas reserve in excess of 7.8 trillion scuffs which is strategically deposited at Oguta, Ohaji/Egbema and part of Owerri Municipal. He said the present administration was committed to not only reducing gas flaring but ensured that private/public initiatives geared towards the reduction and elimination of flaring would add economic benefits to all communities in the state. Chief Ahaneku further stated that when the gas resource was further utilized, it would generate products such as electric power, fertilizer, gas-to-liquid, vehicle fuels among others. Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Anthony Eze, noted that the roundtable would provide the opportunity to review gas reserve in the state as a catalyst to its utilization and as a feedstock to profitable products. He enjoined the state government to make enabling laws through the House of Assembly so that investments in gas would be protected and assisted to grow. Mr. Eze also called on the state government to approve a proposal for a firm protocol arrangement where memoranda would be pushed faster rather than the hitherto bureaucratic bottlenecks that frustrate businesses. |

Even with it, Nigeria is in bad shape. How do you think Nigeria will look like without it. I don't think it will be a good thingThat is a lazy man's thinking.without oil it will be easy for us to split and am very confident Biafra will be the most industrialized.I trust my people. We dey kampe. I just pity the south south people. This is the time to develop themselves but they are playing politic with their future, forgetting the the oil as we were told is non replaceable.if the oil finishes? I know the south south people aside maybe the ibibio and efik are very lazy and useless especially the ijaws, urobo and itsekiri. They have all the wealth but still their people are still the most backwards people in the south.illiteracy is high, joblessness is their hubby, ogogoro is their best friend, waiting for oil company monthy/yearly allowance is their Savior.obviously the igbos in the south-south will go back to their root when then time comes back no doubt about that cos they will not want to be with the next somalia.the SS are afraid of the igbo domination at the same time they so hate themselves.whether oil or on oil the igbo themselves are an economy.for the south west am sure they will be fine as well and they will lure the igbos to come and do non-oil business with them but i don't know where to place the south south asides oil.look at their environment(air, land & water).its one of the worst in the world.that means they cant even do agriculture.the fishes which the can sell are all been killed.fertile farmland are been destroyed.fresh air is been polluted with gas flaring which causes all sorts of illness.who will want to live in the kinda environment? Jona is their president but he prefers to dance around with dangote and the like in government house instead of remembering his root(i don't blame his imbecility any time i remember he is an ijaw man).BTW am not even sure of an ijaw man ruling this country again till after 100yrs cos the next time it comes to SS it will either be Efik or ibibio.(i love this people.they are our true and trusted brothers). |
Has Gaddafi that died like a chicken now become a hero or has it made his people love him?? you people calling Ojukwu coward are just fools. That Ojukwu lived till today has made him a hero's hero if you don't know.if he was killed during the war we probably could have forgotten him. Secondly that he fled has not made him a coward.i even once read on NL where some posters where say why didnt Gaddafi and his son fled.instead of staying in Libya to be captured. Now that he has been captured and killed like a fowl and his son captured like a criminal which one would you suggested to them if you knew the outcome of the war?? |
Brilliant idea.i also think a very big park should be built with the statue in the center, and the park should be name Hero's square or Hero's park |
Seun and d mods are damn tribalist, guess they just want traffic to the site,i thought i was the only one think so.i Nl moderators are loosing it.they are becoming like our elected officers. They are not doing their job. |
