lordm: I hope you know crude oil and it's products are quoted in the international market in dollars. So my guy, petrol will not be lower than 500 Naira. You self how much is 0.92 dollars to Naira. That's way above 1000 Naira and you want petrol at 300 Naira. Lol. Oga, is Nigeria extracting crude oil from the international market? The wheat produced in Ukraine, why are they not selling to Ukrainians at international market price? Do you even know what they call absolute and comparative advantage in economics? Which country on earth will sell a product it produces in its own country locally at an international market price to her citizens? Nawa for uoo. How much is a bag of rice in Malaysia? Why are they not selling to their people using international market price? How much is Mercedes Benz in Germany? Why are they not selling tó Germans using international market price? Dude is asking me how much is 0.96dollars to naira. Bros what is the minimum wage in USA compared to Nigeria? The average minimum wager in USA can buy full tank of fuel for a car with his daily wage. A minimum wager in Nigeria can't buy full tank of fuel from 2weeks earnings. |
Politics › Re: Petrol May Sell For ₦600 Per Litre With Dangote Refinery – Marketers by Mandate1: 10:26am On Aug 13, 2024 |
lordm: USA is one of the largest producers of crude oil. Petrol is not cheap there. It has nothing to do with Tinubu or Buhari Oga, the price of litre of fuel in USA is 0.96dollars a litre. Minimum wage in USA is $7.25 an hour. If you work 6hrs a day, that's $43.5 dollar a day. The minimum wage a day in USA will buy full tank of fuel for a car. The minimum wage for a month in Nigeria has just been reviewed to #70, 000. This will not buy you full tank of fuel for 2days. When making comparisons, ensure it's holistic and not haphazard. You're comparing the price of fuel sold in USA with Nigeria, yet not putting into consideration the cost burden on the minimum wager in this two countries. Nigerians are hypocritical. |

Blitzking: Should be sold for 500 naira when dangote finally begin..govt should only ensure he gets his regular supply of crude as he demands same favour should be given to other local refineries ...and he should accept naira and govt should ban importation of refined pms thereafter quote]for heaven's sake, #500 is expensive. The price you buy Samsung phones and electronics, is it the same price they sell it in South Korea? The price Mercedes Benz is sold in Nigeria, is it the same price it's being sold in Germany? Every country must sell cheaper a commodity they produce locally, and buy higher that they purchase from international market. This is simple economics. If fuel is sold for above 300 per litre in Nigeria after Dangote refinery, then it means we don't have good leaders. Rice, wheat, electronics, can be expensive in Nigeria simply because we don't have comparative and absolute advantage in producing them in Nigeria, but for fuel to be sold high, it's a shame. |

lordm: go and build your refinery, buy crude at $80 per barrel, refine and sell at 400 per liter. Gone are the days of cheap petrol bro. gone are the days of cheap fuel simply because Tinubu is the president. Would you have said this if Buhari is the president? A commodity you produce in your country, you want to sell at international market price. Funny people. Why is wheat not sold in Ukraine the same price it's being sold in the international market? Do you guys even think or factor in comparative and absolute advantage in international trade? Do you know how much a bag of rice is sold in Malaysia? Why are they not selling to their citizens the same price it's being sold at the international market? Tinubu will one day leave office, I hope you people will have the nerve to criticise another president from a different tribe, cos the precedent we are laying will come to hunt us in future. If president Tinubu does well, it's you and I that will enjoy it. If he does badly, we will both suffer the mistakes he made. But know this, once a president from the North comes in, you won't have the nerve to critique his policies that are anti-people. |

Curious345: I currently buy petrol for 565 at all nnpc petrol station this is imported crude for that matter with freight cost. Nigerian crude shouldn't exceed #250, this is if we supply Dangote the needed crude. All other materials coming from that crude will still be sold by Dangote. Nigerians are the most tribalized people on earth and reason only to get tribal advantage. If fuel was sold under Buhari for 180 and the govt is paying subsidy. Now that dangote is up, it shows that whatever cost the govt is paying is cost of bringing the crude to Nigeria(subsidy). Since we won't be importing the petrol as Dangote will sell to us locally, subsidy cost goes. I don't want to say Dangote should sell at subsidy rate, but at least sell a little above it. 250-300 is no too cheap a price. This is fair on both the people and Dangote. All those guys running their month on front page saying it shouldn't be below 500 are just being biased with the truth. Would they have said all these if Buhari was the one who raised fuel price to #600 per litre? |

Politics › Re: 27 States, FCT Yet To Set Up Minimum Wage Panels by Mandate1: 11:44am On Aug 11, 2024 |
nairalanda1: They can't pay it.
Short term, the only way the states can find enough cash for minimum wage is taxes, or the government totally removes subsides on petrol, allowing price of fuel to rise to N1700, 200 of which is taxes (as suggested elsewhere on this site by another nairalander), and power, which means everyone, not just band A pays N210 per kwh or more, OR.....we take another loan for projects, and use the freed up cash for salaries....and hope oil rises up to 140 dollars per barrel
Long term, we become an exporter of manufactred goods and services, with the benefit that we can set prices for manufactured goods and servicies....which is part of why subsidy must go so that our refineries function at full profit and we can be a major exporter of refined products like engine oil. what are you saying? |
