PoliticsBuhari: Why We Halted Planned Petrol Price Hike by MANDIPUTIN(op): 7:01am On Oct 08, 2021
Sustained opposition by organised Labour forced Federal Government to suspend increases in petrol pump price, President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday.

He also explained why Nigeria’s debt portfolio continued to soar, saying his administration kept the economy on its feet by spending out of recessions.

The President’s explanations were contained in the next year’s Appropriation Bill he presented for consideration at a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja.

He said next year’s Appropriation Act will be the last full year budget to be implemented by his administration.

The National Assembly, Buhari said, would recall that in March last year, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) announced that the price of petrol would henceforth be determined by market forces.

He, however, noted that the rising crude oil prices and exchange rate combined to push the price of petrol above the regulated N145.00 per litre price.

According to the President, labour unions led the opposition against the price deregulation policy, saying that the government had to suspend upward price adjustments to engage labour leaders.

He added that the subsidy on petrol significantly eroded revenues that should have been available to fund this year’ Appropriation Act.

PoliticsJoe Igbokwe On 2023 Presidency: 'Igbo Candidate Can’t Be Trusted by MANDIPUTIN(op): 4:46pm On Oct 07, 2021
All Progressives Congress chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, says an Igbo candidate cannot be trusted in the 2023 presidential election.

According to him, nobody is going to vote for people who would use the same position to divide Nigeria.

Igbokwe, who is an aide to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated this in a PUNCH Live interview on Thursday.

He said the South-East geopolitical zone has indeed suffered “injustices”, adding that in “everything we share in this country, we get the least.”

He, therefore, urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to facilitate the creation of one more state to make states in the South-East six like other geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

States currently in the zone are Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi.

Speaking on the PUNCH Live programme, the politician, however, noted that despite the “injustices”, violent agitations and killings were not the way to press for justice, equity and fairness.

PoliticsSoldiers Flee As Unknown Gunmen Enforce Sit-At-Home In Enugu, Imo by MANDIPUTIN(op): 5:25pm On Oct 04, 2021
Nigerian Soldiers Flee As Unknown Gunmen Enforce Sit-at-home In Enugu, Imo, Burn Tricycle

Hoodlums took advantage of the situation to scatter some wares already displayed by shop owners who had fled.

A tricycle was on Monday morning burnt by unknown gunmen who were allegedly enforcing the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Enugu State.

The gunmen were said to have intercepted the tricycle at Amechi Road, beside Romchi filling station in Enugu.

SaharaReporters gathered that soldiers who were called to calm the situation fled after a gun battle with the gunmen.

“The gunmen asked the rider why he refused to remain indoors. The owner and his passengers were unhurt. The Keke (commercial tricycle) was carrying passengers. They forced the occupants out, collected their phones, and set the Keke ablaze.

“When Nigerian soldiers came for the distress call, the gunmen engaged them and they fled. The army zoomed off from unknown gunmen around St. Paul’s Primary School, Achara Layout, Enugu,” a source told SaharaReporters.

Also, gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB have stormed the streets and markets of Owerri, the Imo state capital to ensure residents stay indoors even though the pro-Biafra group has kicked against such enforcement.

There was pandemonium in the town as gunmen forced traders to close shops.

In a report by Daily Trust, motorists quickly made U-turns while many passengers disembarked from their vehicles.

The confusion, which started at Wethral Road, spread to neighbouring Mbaise Road, Douglas Road, and Naze along the Aba- Owerri Road.

Some traders at the multi-million Alaba International Market and Naze Cluster markets were said to have closed their shops and locked the gates leading to the market.

Hoodlums took advantage of the situation to scatter some wares already displayed by shop owners who had fled.

Schools were closed while parents rushed to pick up their children. It was not immediately known what actually happened, but it was gathered that the gunmen had arrived Owerri from Aba ostensibly to enforce the order in Imo.

PoliticsAnambra Government Blames APC, FG For Insecurity In States by MANDIPUTIN(op): 6:57am On Oct 04, 2021
• Says party shifted Uba’s campaign over Buhari, Osinbajo’s absence
• APGA, APC, PDP importing new form of ‘Boko Haram’ to S’East, ADC alleges

Anambra State government has accused the state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) of indicting President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government for insecurity in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, stated this while reacting to APC’s insistence that Governor Willie Obiano should be held responsible for the worsening security situation in the state.

He stressed that the Buhari-led administration should be held accountable for insecurity in Anambra State and the entire country, as against holding particular state governments responsible.

Adinuba, who argued that the 36 state governors were merely titular chief security officers (CSOs) of their states, stressed: “No governor has control over the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), or the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in his state.

“Even the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) is supervised by the state police command, like any other state vigilante service. The APC in Anambra State is aware of the facts but insists on playing to the gallery anytime there is a security issue.

“The people and government of Anambra State are convinced that the state APC is indicting President Buhari deliberately over security lapses, because it is frustrated with the President for not attending its governorship campaign in the state, causing the Andy Uba Campaign Organisation to change plans thrice.”

On the last-minute cancellation of the APC rally for its governorship candidate in Onitsha, yesterday, he added that there were no indications that even Vice President Yemi Osinbajo could attend the campaign.

Continuing, Adinuba pointed out that the president was fully convinced that the primary election did not hold on Friday, June 26, 2021, to nominate the APC candidate for the November 6 governorship poll.
But, the APC in Anambra State berated the Obiano-led All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) administration for its inability to stop the killings in the state in recent times.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike, specifically urged Obiano to resign over his failure to check the constant killings, kidnappings, cultism, destruction of property and attacks on security formations across the state.

Ejidike, who made the call at a stakeholder meeting with the 326 ward executives in Awka, said the governor had demonstrated his inability to protect the life and property of the Anambra people.

MEANWHILE, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the killings in the Southeast, insisting that they have political undertones.

Specifically, the party traced the killings and violent attacks in Anambra State to lack of internal democracy and judgment buying by APGA, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, adding that the political parties had imported a new form of ‘Boko Haram’ to the Southeast region.

National Chairman of ADC, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Awka, maintained that the killings posed a serious threat to the forthcoming November 6, 2021 governorship election.

PoliticsAnambra: Panic As Guber Candidates Halt Campaign. by MANDIPUTIN(op): 7:50am On Oct 03, 2021
Panic can best describe the mood in Anambra State following killings by the unknown gunmen in the last one week.

Against this development, all political activities in the state have been stopped and all posters and branded campaign vehicles have all disappeared from the streets, towns and communities in the area First to stop its campaign rallies is the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Mr Valentine Ozigbo, who after commiserating with the families of those killed, announced the suspension of all campaign rallies and visitations till further notice.

According to a release made available to reporters, Ozigbo said: “In the past few days, we have witnessed an alarming escalation of deadly violence in Anambra. We lost an eminent son and several others in what appears to be a renewed violent campaign by bandits.

“As a son of the soil and a leader, I find the latest reports of violence disturbing and condemnable. I call for a stop to all acts of violence, particularly against the innocent. “Due to this development and in line with my belief that no life is worth anybody’s ambition, I suspended all my campaign rallies and public appearances scheduled for this week. Every life is precious and ought to be protected and preserved. “Every lawful step must be taken to address the growing incidences of insecurity in Anambra and the South East. Dialogue is a globally accepted approach to resolving agitations for selfdetermination. It is time that the Nigerian government opened the door for non-violent solutions to the crisis at hand. “I call for the end of the dehumanisation of my people, and any people for that matter. Everyone deserves to live in dignity and die with dignity.” Also, in an address to Anambra electorate, Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that it has become instructive that the campaign flag off slated to take place in Onitsha yesterday October 2nd 2021 be postponed indefinitely.

Uba, who also extended his condolences to the families of the victims of unknown gunmen, contended that the ruling government of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) has failed to perform its major duties of protecting lives and property and ensuring that law and order were maintained.

Uba further said that the level of insecurity in the state was an indication that the APGA government in Anambra state has been overwhelmed by the challenges before it.

Deputy Head of Publicity in the Prof Charles Soludo campaign organization and Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Gov Willie Obiano; Mr Emeka Ozurumba, said that since after the flag off of the campaigns, the party was to commence local government tours but had to put it on hold due to the state of affairs.

Ozurumba noted that Soludo has been attending condolence visits to the families of those killed, adding that at the appointed time, the campaign arrangements would be made public. Media Aide to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Mr Kameh Ogbonnaya and Mr Achilus Uchegbu of Chief Obiora Okonkwo and Media Assistant to Dr Godwin Maduka, confirmed that it would be insensitive for them to continue the campaign tours when sons and daughters of Anambra State were being killed and those alive now leave in fear of the unknown.

They, however, blamed the Anambra State government for not being responsive to the current security challenges in the state. But Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Ifeatu Obiokoye, a lawyer, dismissed their submissions, insisting that the security of lives and property was a collective thing and not the exclusive reserve of the government alone.

In the last one week or so, Anambra State has been visited with so many killings by some people addressed as the unknown gunmen and lives of innocent citizens have been lost as a result of these incidents.

The Anambra State government have sent it’s condolences to the affected families and His Excellency Gov Willie Obiano has placed the sum N20 million for anyone that can give useful information about these killers and their whereabout and has also strengthened all security bodies and apparatus in a bid to stop these killings.

But true to the nature of the opposition parties in the state, it has become a tool for campaigns and politicking and all the media platforms are awash with statements credited to one candidate or the other.

“To this end, we want to state that issues about security are a collective thing and not the exclusive preserve of government alone.

“We have vigilant groups and neighborhood watch and these are part of the collective responsibility of all and sundry and it would be wrong and shameful for people to be playing politics with the security of people’s lives.

“We have it on good record that some people are trying to capitalize on this situation to manipulate the electoral process and declare themselves winner claiming that there was voter apathy due to insecurity.

“The Anambra State government wishes to reiterate its primary commitment to protecting lives and property of everyone in the state, including the opposition that has chosen to overheat the polity.”

Similarly, most weddings and funerals have gone low key for fear of the presence of the unknown gunmen and politicians and well to do members of the society have begun to avoid public gatherings.

A mortician based in Onitsha told reporters that people come secretly to carry their dead relatives without posters and go to bury them without the usual funfair that goes with it.

Special guests to functions now avoid social gatherings but do online money transfer to relatives of the late ones with a plea of not attending physically.

PoliticsBuhari Plunged Nigeria Into Dangerous Territory: Canadian Minister by MANDIPUTIN(op): 7:31pm On Oct 02, 2021
The minister said he looked forward to a president with “capacity and good intentions” to unite Nigeria.

The Minister of Justice and Solicitor-General of the Canadian Government of Alberta, Kelechi Madu, says he looks forward to the emergence of a competent and visionary leader as Nigeria has drifted into dangerous territory under President Muhammadu Buhari regime.

“While no one doubts that the country has drifted into dangerous territory,” Mr Madu said in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.

“I have always been an eternal optimist about the future of the ordinary people of Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Madu described Nigeria as a sleeping giant with huge human and natural resources, saying he looks forward to the emergence of a competent and visionary leader.

“I look forward to a new and reimagined leadership with the vision, capacity and good intentions to think through the entire country from the rainforest of the South East, to the cocoa plantation of the South West, the mountains of Plateau and the desert plains of the North,” he said.

“The people of this sleeping giant are exceedingly blessed with human and natural resources. They are hardworking, bright and resilient.

“I am rooting for their liberation and success so that they can achieve their God-given potential. I wish them a very happy celebration,” Mr Madu said.

Nigeria marked her 61st Independence Anniversary Friday, eliciting much criticism over insecurity, underdevelopment and economic hardship.

Contrary to criticisms, Mr Buhari, in his speech, said he had done better than his predecessors since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
PoliticsUzodinma: FG To Give Imo $120 Million For Livestock Programme by MANDIPUTIN(op): 8:13am On Oct 02, 2021
The Federal Government will soon release $120 million to Imo State to support the state government’s livestock programme.

Governor Hope Uzodinma disclosed this on Friday during a broadcast to mark the nation’s 61st Independence Anniversary in Owerri.

He noted that the state has also been earmarked to receive $850 million to be distributed among seven states.

“Another benefit from the visit (President Muhammadu Buhari) is that the Federal Government has graciously included Imo State as a beneficiary of its special Agric Processing Zone Project for Livestock farming,” he said.

“Out of the seven states in the country that will benefit from a Federal Government $850 million for the programme, Imo State is number two! Consequently, a whopping $120 million will soon be released to our state for the livestock programme.”

The governor explained that the Federal Government has also listed Imo as one of the states to benefit from a $1.4 billion facility secured from the World Bank for urban and rural water development.

Speaking on security, Uzodinma said relative peace has been recorded in the South-Eastern state under his administration.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for their “invaluable support to the state government in tackling the worst form of banditry and criminality ever witnessed in the state.”

According to the Imo governor, everyone in the state is a witness to the “savagery and cannibalistic brutality that defined the regime of violence and criminality that enveloped the state for some months in the recent past.”

Uzodinma warned that his administration will not tolerate anybody that attempts to foment trouble in the state, vowing to crush criminal elements.

He called on people of the state to support the security agencies and government by providing useful information to flush out criminals from their hideouts.

“Anybody who attempts to disrupt the peace of the state again may not live to tell the story. That is why it is important for parents and guardians to rein in their children and wards as the security agencies have our directive to deal decisively with those who may be tempted to foment trouble again.

“I have just inaugurated a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the security breaches in the state and come out with recommendations on what government should do to ensure that there is no recurrence of such.

“I believe that both the perpetrators and their sponsors would be unmasked for Imo people to know their enemies. But all of us have a collective duty to protect our state against renegades,” he added.

FamilyA Divorced Single Mother Wrote by MANDIPUTIN(op): 3:49pm On Oct 01, 2021
I am writing to you in order to make someone understand that it's good to appreciate our partners despite their flaws.
I am 32 years of age.
My ex husband and I dated for 6 years.
We where best of friends.
I waited until he completed college and started work.
My family and his family then met.
We got married and had a son. (7 years old now).
My husband was short tempered at times but our problems started when I wanted to make him feel he couldn't control me.
Every time we argued, I would pack my bags, go to my family and explain.
My sisters would phone my husband and shout at him.

If he was controlling me I would always dare him that if he wished, he could divorce me.
I never wanted divorce.
I just had pride and I never wanted to look like a loose woman in his eyes.
One day I pushed him so hard that for the first time he beat me and locked me outside.
I went to my family, my family took him to the police, every time I looked like I was being abused!
But to be honest, I used to abuse my husband emotionally.
He was arrested and detained.
I was asked by his family to withdraw the case.
I felt that what I was doing was wrong.
My husband was never a violent man, he did what he did because I pushed him to the wall of which he openly knelt down and apologized.

I withdrew the charge, and we reconciled.
After three months, I packed my bags after a small issue and he remained alone.
After two days, I received a call that he was in the hospital.
My family told me that I shouldn't go there because it would look like I was begging him and my sisters believed he was feigning the illness.
All this time, people felt sorry for me like I was the one being abused.
He spent a week in the hospital, after he came out, I just received a divorce summon.
I wanted to say no to divorce, but because I felt this pride, I wanted him to change his mind and beg me.
I called him and said he would get the divorce because I lived like I was in hell.
When we went to court, I wanted to make him pay, so I told the court that I needed his properties to be shared.
To my surprise he openly told the court that whatever he and I acquired together should be given to me, all he wanted was divorce.
We were divorced in 2009 July.
Now, my husband is married, whilst l am here wasted!

My family members are gossiping about me.
I depend on what my ex husband gives to my son for survival.
I know I wasted my marriage.
I am here telling all wives that they should be careful how they get advise.
Don't be cheated, don't entertain family interference in your marriage my dear reader.
Even my young sisters are much more respected than me.
Those who encouraged me to get divorced are always teasing and bad mouthing me.
Please ladies, be vigilant in your marriage.
Thought it wise to share my story to save your marriage.

There is no benefit in pride for nothing.
SOMETIMES IT'S NOT THE MAN'S FAULT AT ALL, IT'S YOUR PRIDE,AND THE PEOPLE YOU ALLOWED TO ADVISE YOU,SO BE WISE AND VIGILANT IN YOUR MARRIAGE.
Culed.

PoliticsDr Chike Akunyili: Heart-Touching Tribute From His Children by MANDIPUTIN(op): 11:56am On Sep 30, 2021
Death in any situation is painful, but when it is as brutal and senseless as murder, our hearts break twice.
As a nation mourns a man known to many as the husband of late Professor Dora Akunyili, we as a family remember the man we call Daddy.
He was a son — as a young man, he fought as a soldier in the Biafra war. A war that earned him a bullet that stayed lodged in his skull ever since. From this experience of violence and death, he went on to become a doctor saving thousands of lives — a powerful testament to his journey through life.
He was a loving husband. It is no surprise that, on the day of his untimely death, he was on his way from a memorial lecture in honor of his late wife, who he cherished and honored even in death. At this event and always, he invited everyone to be like his wife Dora.
He was a father and grandfather. With joy, he would share that he was a grandfather to 9 grandchildren. He welcomed his youngest grandchild just a little over a month ago and had yet to meet her. Ask any of the grandchildren about Grandpa, and they will tell you stories of love and support, be it his long text to his oldest granddaughter at the victory of Kamala Harris inviting her to note the inspiration for herself or speaking to his namesake and grandson Chike, reminding him of his own limitless potential.
He was an older brother to all his siblings, many of whom call him Daddy in reverence and recognition of his love.
He was a healer. A passionate surgeon, Dr. Chike was the Medical Director at St. Leo’s Hospital in Enugu. For decades he served countless people, many of whom he cared for and healed at no cost. His one request was always that they paid it forward.
He started his healing journey in the north where he built and ran a mobile clinic in Jaban Kogo. For many months, he lived and worked among the people, studying and becoming fluent in Hausa to better serve his patients. His commitment to providing healthcare to that community earned him the National Youth Service Merit Award.
He was a philanthropist. For 45 years he treated priests in Bigard Memorial Seminary and beyond for free, trusting this to be his calling.
He was a Papal Knight of Saint John, a title bestowed by the Vatican in recognition of his dedication and service to the Church.
He was a man of the people, loved by many for his wisdom and for his courage to always speak the truth. His counsel was sought far and wide.
He is remembered for his ability to hold an audience captive with his words and stories. To hear him speak in Igbo was to be blessed by the wisdom of endless proverbs.
He was an ordinary man who, everyday, showed his extraordinary commitment to his community and his people by his ability to help people in need without question.
In his final days, his heart was heavy about the state of things in Nigeria. He lamented about the struggles of people unable to pay for treatment anymore and about the unfortunate state of unrest where human life had lost its value.
His hope echoed that of his beloved wife and our mother, that Nigeria might lean on the forces of unity and shun disunity. That we might do the right thing, trusting that our potential lies in the goodness of the people and the greatness of the nation.
What happens if we move closer to these ideals?
His murder and death leave a gap which sorrow cannot fill.
May it not be in vain.
