A 221g interview is a follow-up interview for applicants who qualify for interview waiver (drop box) but are required to provide additional information to complete the visa process.
So, the visa application is temporarily put on hold and the applicant is asked to schedule a follow-up interview which is called a 221g interview.

Im not sure why I was asked to come for interview but I suspect period of stay due to child birth.

Good morning all, Just to encourage anyone that applied for Dropbox and was refused on 221G, I got my visa approved!!

VO: I see you plan going on a 2 weeks vacation, What’s there for you?
Me: My kids want to see Chicago cos that’s where they were born so I plan taking them to the zoo, Aquarium and there’s a Lego land there (I had used google to search for activities in the city).
VO: (nodding and typing) Oh So you had them there? How old are they?
Me: Yes, then I told him
VO: what do u do?
Me: I told him my position and quickly chipped in my duties. (So it was like a conversation)
VO: How did you pay for your delivery?
Me: I was self pay, that’s like out of pocket
VO: what does your husband do?
Me: He is this and that
VO: (Looking interested) what does that term mean?
Me: I told him and we both laughed when he said oh oh I see.
VO: Do you intend to have any medicals on this trip
Me: No sir
VO: your visa has been approved, pick up in a week
Me: Thank you sir, enjoy the rest of your day.

I walked out without any document checked.
I noticed that some people where refused when the VO sensed dishonesty or lack of composure (keeping quiet after a question or giving an abstract response as though you didn’t understand the question, like you have something to hide).

Bottom line is God’s favour, honesty and preparation.

It is, as long as you don’t exceed the date you got when stamped in.

My visa appointment date is 2025(I have picked the date given, awaiting another reschedule if possible to a nearer date in 2023).
My inquiry are as follows:
1. If I didn't get a nearer date,do I need to edit my Ds-160 form to a new date?
2. Will my visa fee paid in 2023 still valid till 2025?
3. How many days do I have to editing my ds-160 form from the application submission date?

Pls I need urgent response and assistance

1.You will fill and update another DS160 when it’s closer to your appointment, as it shouldn’t be longer than 6months.
2. Your visa fee is still valid till the date of your appointment.
3. You cannot edit an already submitted form but you can update the new ds160 to your application when it’s closer to your appointment time.

Mine was within 48hrs but that was in March.

Yes T hat’s the process, you will be sent a link via email that will enable you see the calendar and pick a date.

I am currently in the US. I finished my Masters and got a Ph.D. I am now qualified for the interview waiver to renew my expiring visa. My question is, can I give my documents to a family member or friend to drop them off since I don't have to appear for an interview? Coming to Nigeria to drop off my documents is not ideal because I have to attend classes, and it takes two months to get feedback. Can I authorize someone to drop it off and pick it up on my behalf? Any helpful advice will be appreciated 🙌🏾

I don’t think someone can drop off your passport on your behalf except it’s a family renewal then one person from the group can drop off. But this isn’t the case. You can only authorize someone to pick up on your behalf.

My mom got an interview waiver for her US visa application, but on the appointment confirmation given to her, there were 2 details there. the first one says consular appointment details at Walter Carrington, while the second one says document delivery info at DHL Muri Okunola. We are now confused. If she has an interview waiver, does she still have to go to Walter Carrington or should she just drop her docs at DHL. Also, she was given a date of July 18. Does this mean that she needs to drop her docs at DHL before the 18th?

Your mum should go the the selected DHL office on the day of her appointment to drop off her documents. She is not to go to the embassy since she qualifies for IW.

This follow up appointment is becoming frustrating 🥲🥲🥲

@Christalt you have to go on dhl portal to schedule a pick up appointment. That way, you can know where your passport really is.

Already sent them a mail last night and I await their reply.

Same thing too, I tracked dhl and it’s showing error so I’ve sent them a mail and I got a mail showing case file opened.

I think it’s time to go and arrange our zero balance receipts.

My IW was refused last month but am yet to get a mail for passport pick up.
I have been tracking my passport but still shows is at the embassy.
This afternoon I decided to check my appointment page then saw a prompt showing scheduled follow up appointment but there was no date.
Please note that I haven’t received my passport back.
Will I attend the interview without my passport?

This is my exact situation. Submitted since March and no mail for pick up yet only to see on my profile to choose follow up date without any dates showing.

My cousin's status showed refused. A week later, he received a mail that his passport was ready for pick up. A box ticked on the letter only said he should print his DS-160 copy and come with it alongside his passport, the scheduled follow up appointment letter and the 221g letter on his interview date... different applicants with different scenarios I guess.

Hello Dami, sorry for the late response.
I used Travelstart for flight reservations and hotel.com for hotel reservations. They will send the booking itinerary to the email you provide. The previous page has some gurus throw light on this.

- Apply for a return or multiple ATV.
- Don’t book Hotel
- include copy of the visa and ticket reservation

- Health Insurance: You still require health insurance with a minimum value of €30,000 even though you won't be leaving the international terminal of the French airport where you will land.
This is needed in case of sickness or accident while you're at the airport.

I’ve gone through some pages and screen munched the list of documents from SpriteB and others but I’m still a bit confused as this is my first time.

Please a few questions, how do I get the travel insurance, do I need to book hotel since it’s just for transit, do I apply for multiple or double entry?

Went for my visa interview on the 16th of February,
I gave birth in the US in 2019.
Went with my zero balance and all my receipts but they didn't ask for it.
Thry just asked if I was going to get any medical assistance from the government for me or my son and I answered no that we both are very healthy.
Then she said she was asking because there are new rules ro birth tourism. I told her I was done with child birth and am presently not pregnant
Visa was approved .

I tried to login now, I noticed a CONTINUE button, when I clicked on it, it took me to the MRV receipt stage, after i clicked next, it took me to the submit screen. Does this mean what I did yesterday did not work? Should I still go ahead and click the submit button again?

You don’t have to submit again, just keep checking your box for a mail from them. Mine came after 2days. Hope this helps.

Like someone rightly said, their country, their decision. Afterall, if Nigeria was so stable why go through the stress of leaving your family, your comfortable house to fly with big belle for almost 17hrs to 24hrs depending on the airline, only to go and be a squatter in your hosts house and be trying to be in your best behavior for 2months or more? America is not even like the uk where you can move easily without help from someone, this one you go out only when they go out to save uber cost.

So please those who are advising we look for more expensive hospitals, in this present economy? So I will see hospital package of 5k then I will open eye to go and pay 15k because I want to please the VO? For goodness sake did I commit a crime by signing a hospital agreement?

Even the 5k sef is not convenient but most of us do this for the future of our kids not because we have one tree growing dollars (I pray for that kind of anointing this 2019). Not the one your child will want to study overseas tomorrow then they'll keep denying him/her for NO strong reason. If I give birth in Nigeria, I'll have hot pepper soup with fresh fish, I'll have people waiting on me 24/7 but for abroad who send you? If my country was better will I have to stress myself?

It's just unfortunate that a lot of people are getting denied this period on bases of previous childbirth. I wish everyone who needs to apply now success. Abeg, if you know any cheap hospital (3k sef) holla at me By God's grace, before I'll need to renew, VO's temper go don cool down.

I think the best thing to do is not add passport number and use initials because at POE some people get asked if they notified the embassy so what then do you do?

I've heard lately of people who paid ALL their bills and were trying to renew for visit purpose but got denied. This new banning policy is a norm for VO's not because of low bills or refusal to pay bills.
