Your upfront interest is what you have earned by not keeping the face value of the investment in your account. But upon maturity you will get the face value credited to your account.

FBN will deduct the total amount you bid for, and credit you with the interest after 48 hours. I got a 14.4% for 91days during the last bid, 500k was deducted from my account and the interest of about 17k was paid on Friday 5th August 2015.

This calculation is a problem to many.
Look at this, somebody did a job in A firm and realized 1.2million. he added 5% vat which is 60000 so his total figure was 1260000. The money was paid in full and government took their 5% which is 63000 and not the 60000 he calculated earlier. YOU CAN NOW SEE THAT HIS 5% IS WRONGLY CALCULATED.

Now if I have 502000 and wish to involve all the money in TB at 17% (may be for 364days) what figure should I get? Very simple
1. subtract that rate from 100 = 83
2. divide that your money by this figure and multiply by 100. = (502000/83)*100 =604819

3. Now if I have 502000 to invest, I can confidently fill in 604819. now 17% of 604819 is 102819.
4. then 604819-102819 = 502000. which is the amount they need to withdraw from my account.
5. funny enough if u do this, you will have to pay for service charge over the counter. hahaha sometimes mathematics even though it's true, it is far from reality.
6. One good question to ask Is WHAT IS THE GAIN?

If I used 502000, I will have 85340 which is my 17% dormant on my account.

but when I used 604819, I will have 0 on my account but after maturity I will get 102819 extra instead of 85340.

Have you ever tried this before? Where do you buy your Treasury Bills.

Some banks debit the whole funds initially then pay interest within 3 days while some do otherwise.

You are right, most banks will debit your account for the amount you bid for and credit your account with the upfront interest.

I currently have about five friends, colleagues and family friends who are tithers and are members of the above named denomination who are currently struggling to pay their house rents, children schools and neck deep in debt, to the extent of borrowing to continue paying their tithes, offerings and pledges.

First, How many folks can afford to cough out =N=300k in 1999 ? A good short term player make well over =N=50m for same 17yrs period.

I dont think I am willing to stick out my neck for any coy for 17 years, too much risks and uncertainty. Nestle is just one tough -lucky damn stock on the NSE that had consistently performed in terms dividend and cap appreciation.

Honestly, how many blue chip stocks on the NSE can match Nestle performance? Ask those folks that bought FBN around =N=33/Share and still holding, ask those folks that bought UBA at =N=37, ask those folks that bought Oando =N=125/share and still holding .... Ask shareholders of Oceanic, Intercontinental, Cadbury, etc etc etc.

I always smile when some advocate of long term holding always quote Buffet in support of their analysis, Nigeria is a different ball game where coys executive are too greedy & involved in sharp practices. I have learnt to lock my profit as soon as they appear and cut losses as soon as they emerge.

I know a couple of people who could cough out 300k and above on cars, vacation, clothes, partying, clubbing etc in 1999 who are now in penury. I also know average guys who earned about 120k per annum in 1999, who are now controlling multi million net worth and assets through hard work, discipline, focus, long-term planning and investment, forward thinking investments decision, daring to be different and God's grace.

Being a long term investor does not mean you invest and go to sleep. I bought Unipetrol now Oando in 1994 when I was a student in the University but sold in 2013 when I lost confidence in the ability, sincerity and integrity of the managers.

CG is too weak in Nigeria, those directors dont give shit about investors as such I dont advise long term. How many investors have the financial muscle to buy coys like Nestle, I rather leave long term investment for the likes of Dangote and Buffet that have the financial muscle.

Why will I wait for peanuts yearly dividend from coys when I can play short term and get the 300% of the same dividend and move excess fund to other investment class.

N20000 would have bought 1000 units of Nestle shares in 1999, this 1000 units would have grown to about 2000 units in 2016 valued at about N1.6 million. If the investor had reinvested his dividends like I do the value must have grown astronomically.


N300k will buy a Tokunbo V booth Benz or 15000 units of Nestle shares in 1999. Fast forward to 2016, the V-booth is now a scrap valued at N100k, while the Nestle shares is now 30000 units valued at around N24 million.

It's very simple, some companies can last for decades, while some can't last five years.

I remember my uncle buying NESTLE for N100 some years ago. The Dividend alone has given him 100% on his investment, while his share unit price has appreciated.

Please a friend need your advice, does summary dismissal includes non payment of a teacher salary after he has worked for 26 days. This happen to a friend who want explanation if he can sue them or not. He said he was dismissed during the last day of the school day(26th of this month) and vacated 27th, is he not entitle to his salary? He was told his salary would not be paid by owner of the school.

. A worker can be dismissed for gross misconduct like examination malpractice, stealing his employer's money or property, sabotage, private practices that are clashing with when the employee should be at work.
In the case of a school a teacher who impregnates a female student will be dismissed and prosecuted, unnecessary fraternity with students can also lead to dismissal.

But I think the employer ought to pay a dismissed worker for the work done and then prosecute him if need be.

. You can never have that type of holding through JIJO. I use stockbroking houses that have been around for a long time and also meet ordinarily looking clients in those houses who portfolios running into hundreds of millions of Naira.

What this ordinary people with extraordinary wealth have in common is what is lacking in most Nigerians and most investors. What they have in common are dry, old school strategies and investment philosophy.
