Anvaller: This question is not very specific hence the reason why ppl's comment is pointing at different directions.I think the guy must have been hardworking or business savvy enough to have contributed 70% of the cost of the car, before I can give him the outstanding 30%. I can buy good stocks and real estate for my children, but if the child needs a car he should be able to afford 70% and the child must have extra cash for further investments and maintenance of the car. |
Anvaller: In reality parents don't buy car for their young children but they allow them to drive their car/cars... and when they are old enough to maintain a car, they give a car out to them or outright buy a new one for them.. So ur comment here is not really different from what happens in reality. He can only drive my car when I want to send him on errands, but not to take my car to the school. |
AjanleKoko: My children are way too young for me to worry about such thingsDividends from stocks and rents from property bought for your children about 22 years ago can conveniently buy a car for them after NYSC, or can be used as the seed capital to start a business venture. |
Don't get me wrong, I want to give my children a good head-start in life, just the same way my parents did to me. By giving them good education, making them independent, inculcating the right values and attitudes in my children and also investing in stocks and real-estates on behalf of my children. So that when, I leave this planet my children will forever be grateful to me for having a wonderful father. But not by buying a car for a child who is still a dependant and can not take care of himself. |
manie: Why should I buy a car for my child, fuel the car, service the car and maintain the car? With these our Children will be able to to conveniently have their own cars, build houses and be successful on their own rights. Nobody wants their grown children to receive economic out-care handouts from their parents and this is common among the children of the middle class and some children from upper class families. |
Why should I buy a car for my child, fuel the car, service the car and maintain the car? I think we need to encourage our child to be investment savvy, frugal, entrepreneurial, financially literate and to imbibe the right values like dignity of labour, hard work, contentment , gratitude, delayed gratification etc. But not by buying a car for a child who is still a dependant and can not take care of himself. |
lastpage: Let my son /daughter work hard and save their money towards buying a car, if he/she needs one! Even if l be Dangote or Owner of Microsoft! wink The best l can do is to guarantee him/her 35% contribution towards the cost of the car if he or she can show me and convince me that the other 65% is from his hard earned sweat, that they are matured enough to own and drive a car and will not use it to bring "sorrow" to the family! wink wink undecided There is always pride in what you worked for (not what someone gave you)......Dignity in labor, always. Last page My father shares the same philosophy, and this made us strong and successful. I will buy a car for my child when he starts working and can maintain a car. The child must have contributed 70% of the cost of the car. |

mercylicious: Plot in Ikorodu for 250k? R u sure?It depends on the part of Ikorodu, but can get land of 250k in Shagamu, Ijebu Ode and some parts of Epe. |
aduhube: I have been paying rent year after year in Lagos mainland. I was satisfied and happy with it until I visited my friend in his own house. My friend is a secondary school teacher. He told me the norm- pay one year rent and pack to your own house the following year.I think people with the means should be encouraged to invest in real estate and not necessarily because they want to live in their own house. You can live in your own house at Ikorodu, and you will be worse off than a tenant at Surulere in terms of cost of commuting from Ikorodu to work on the Island. I have an income generating property at Ajah and Ibafo, with the third one nearing completion at Agbara, but I am still a renter in Lagos Mainland because of the distance from my residence to place of work and business. It is not smart for anybody to pay a rent of 500k without having a plan to invest a minimum of 250k in real estate. |
@ 9free we never hear from you at SMN, hope all is well |

appleveil: Here's a real way to make money online for FREE. All you need is a website with a reasonable amount of traffic. Get a widget from www.topupgenie.com and place it on your website. You get 2% of any airtime sales that comes from the widget on your site. You don't have to do anything. Wake up and find money in your bank account. Topup Genie does all the work - from handling payment to sending the airtime to the person. What is the relationship between your post and stock market performance from 2000/2003 till date. You should have created another thread for the advertisement of your business. |
freeman67: @Manie...how's d performance of Fidson been..and what is its prospect in the comings years pls..?I am sorry, I don't have FIDSON stock. |

Thanks once againYour broker may not be able to help you, i will advice you to go to First Registrars. |
@ Josh121 If you bought after the 1 for 4 bonus declared in 2005, you should have 19904 units of FBN shares |
[/quote Any money you pay to your broker is yours, the money will be used to buy any stock you ask them to buy. |
mercylicious: Please wats d name of d stock brokers?UBA Sockbrokers 250k, Union Capital market 500k, BGL Securities 1 million, FBN Securities 5 Million. |
doctorbabs: CIRCULAR TO INVESTORS/SHAREHOLDERS OF PuBLIC COMPANIES ON ELECTRONIC DIVIDEND PAYMENT.SEC has suspended the deadline on dividend warrant issuance. |
Elai147: Universal Insurance was previously listed but suddenly varnished from the market list. MBENFT is also delisted. Does anyone know why?Insurance sector is a no go area for me. I may change my mind next year. |
jackbauersballs: WTF is Curriculum Studies?!Education. There are a lot of units or sub-departments in the Curriculum studies department.I think Wande read English/Education at UNILAG. |
Fellonigerians: The policies of the government also needs to even support the sector, by ensuring that people get insurance for house, car, etc...People only insure whenever they are compelled eg all cars must be insured, but 90% of the motorist go for 3rd party insurance. Once the Insurance sector works on their integrity, Nigerians may start to insure and invest in the sector. IGI, Universal Insurance, IAA etc did private placement some years back, the stocks are not listed and investors have not gotten a dime on their investment. I can not invest in an insurance stock, and will not take an insurance policy other than the one for my cars. |
lynx200: Why not try SMEDAN?(Small and medium enterprises development agency of Nigeria) They are a government agency that could be of assistance www.smedan.gov.ng. What about your current customer base? they could invest also. Its a nice idea. You said that u have different payment gateways for xmx me therefore I will like to know what it will cost you to build a mobile app that can play short movies(4mins/ 4mb) and if it can be made independent of the networks (their charges on VAS services are crazy and they don't provide that much value in return). Send me a PM so that we can talk. Its good to know we still have innovative Nigerians in our midstSMEDAN will definitely require some pedigree, structures and organisation before they invest in any business venture. |
sixteen08: The price is on the high side (in tandem with your submission on the price) i personally don't think now is the right time to buy with the current price above 930I may be wrong, but I think it is overpriced. 1000 units of Nestle at the current price would have bought over 41,000 units of Zenith in March 2013 and you would have received a dividend of 59k, whereas 1000 units of Nestle will give you a dividend of about 17k. I have no regret selling all my 2500 units of Nestle, and reinvesting the proceeds in First bank Shares. |
small scale, not everyone has the wad like you and by the way stock certificates have never been used as loan collateral in banks. I know of a bank turning down their own shares as collateral prior to the stock bust. Chickens occupy less space and feeds need not be bought also there are vaccines. A friend of mine had 200 brioler chics bought at 100 naira a piece, housed in a make shift stall in his backyard that he fed meals he sourced himself at approximately 10 -15,000 a month. He sold about 120 for approximately 1,500 a piece. The rest he ate and cheerfully gave out. Mind you this was no business venture but a leisure activity. By the way you sound like a stock broker.
Your shares must be dematerialised before it can be used as a collateral. I am not a stockbroker just an entrepreneur and an investor. |
sixteen08: @manie I'd like to know your take on nestle stocks.Unfortunately I have sold all my Nestle shares, to buy more of FBN shares at between N18.50 and N20.00k. Nestle should be a good stock for anybody that can get it for less than N800. I sold mine when it got to N800 and above. |
Does anyone knows any STOCK-BROKER? I went to Zenith bank they could not help.. I really need to dispose this stock.. Pls help me
Are you based in Lagos Nigeria, if yes I will recommend brokers to you. |
Their new scam now is to avoid paying out dividends and due to an obscure law unclaimed dividends after a specific period are reinvested into a SEC fund. The SEC regulators, company mangers are all scammers. They will offer useless share offers to have you never claim physical cash. Avoid them like the plague. Put your money into small scale farming like poultry, fisheries. You will be amazed at the returns you get for your effort and small cash investments. With 500,000 you can start a small scale poultry within your neighbhood and in 3 mths make a minimum profit return of 80%. No stock will giiven you such return.
Can you give us a breakdown of how you intend to make 80% return on your poultry farm. Yours truly is a stock market investor, real estate investor and an entrepreneur with diverse interest in various fields including agriculture and animal husbandry. Did you include feeding cost of your birds, salaries of workers, land rent, local government levy, energy cost, medicine and vaccination for your birds, marketing expenses etc. When you calculate all these you will find 0out that you can not make a return of 80%, and do not forget that diseases like bird flu, pneumonia etc can kill all your birds in 72 hours. A poultry farmer with investment in stocks, can use his stocks as a collateral for the expansion of his farm. With just 30,000 units of FBN shares you can easily assess a loan of over 400k for the expansion of your poultry business. |
manie: I have four brokers, one takes a minimum of 250k, another requires a minimum of 500k, one needs minimum of 1 million and the last requires a minimum of 5 million Naira before you can open a stockbroking account. After the initial purchase they can accept as little as 10k to invest for their clients. |
