9free: Bros, but atmost all coys on the NSE have issues wity CG nah.......Only that in Oando's case, it's more glaring.Maybe, but as at now Oando own no get rival. I guess things should start looking up at Oando. |
mercylicious: Agh, oga Manie!Wetin, a stockbroker on Milverton Road Ikoyi lagos requires a minimum of $100,000 or its equivalent before you can open a stock trading account, while most big stockbroking houses in Lagos, Abuja and PH will require a minimum of N5 million. |

The future ought to be bright for Transcorp and the selling price is not bad. |
Kashif: Thanks for your comment, and advise noted. I am good at technicals, with a little fundamental blend. I am not interested in long term investment(the dividends I still get is not up to 20k).The fund at your disposal is small, and will not give a substantial speculative returns. That is why i will advice you to buy TB, or build up your portfolio to at least N5 million. |
Kashif: Gentlemen, I left stock investment since the 2008 bubble, but was an avid speculator before then. Now, am coming back.Since you need your money in January 2014, it will be better if you invest the money in treasury bills. |
ihedioramma: IF I AM U I WILL BY AS MANY MY MONEY CAN BY OANDO, THERE WAS A TIME OANDO PRICE WAS MORE DAN #300 THE SAME WITH FLOUR MILLS WAS AT BELOW #15I will advice him to invest in UBA Capital, the guys managing Oando have issues with CG. I hope they have changed their ways. |
Kashif: Gentlemen, I left stock investment since the 2008 bubble, but was an avid speculator before then. Now, am coming back. Some of us were fully invested in some fundamentally good stock during this period. |
Kashif: Gentlemen, I left stock investment since the 2008 bubble, but was an avid speculator before then. Now, am coming back.your success in this venture will not be determined by how much you have, but how prepared you are to learn, your level of financial education, patience and the God factor. |
Kashif: Gentlemen, I left stock investment since the 2008 bubble, but was an avid speculator before then. Now, am coming back. Please do not be a speculator, educate your self and be an informed investor. Speculators may make money on the short term, but on the long run they will lose big time. |
Elai147: There are registrars that purposely refuse to register some of us for E-dividend payment. Till date, I still receive dividend warrants by post from some companies while others pay directly to my bank account. There is nothing I have not done to ensure I am registered for E-dividend with some registrars but it just won't work and eventually I got tired of repeating the E-dividend registration process. Sometimes, these registrars know what they are doing. Evidence to support my claim is in the recent complain by SEC mandating investors to register for E-dividend because they are worried about the increasing figures of unclaimed dividends. Can you mention the names of some of these registrars. |
It is very possible to build a house within or less than 10 years. I always advice people to make sure they invest whatever they as house rent, in real estate investment. If you must pay 600k per annum for rent, you must be able to invest another 600k in real estate. If this is not possible, I will advice the person to get a cheaper accommodation of may be 300k, so that he can have another 300k to invest in real estate on an annual basis. |
zayzee: Well, I was asking the question for an article I was working on, and I eventually did it and even liked the outcome because I am going to follow the plan. Since you seem interested, I will post it here for you.You asked the question, and you provided the answers. Obviously you are here to market your company and her products. |
manie: I will advice you to sign up for e-dividend, or better still if you are based in Lagos you can ask for your dividend warrants to be extracted. Before the advent of e-dividend most of my dividend warrants were extracted. |
veeco vee: i mailed uba registrar about the long awaited dividend warrant. But their reply was that it must clock 6months b4 they ll reissue another warrant. Did they purposely withold warrant with up to 5 figure amount? anyone in same shoe?I will advice you to sign up for e-dividend, or better still if you are based in Lagos you can ask for your dividend warrants to be extracted. |
mercylicious: Abeg Ella, what do u think? Why close observatn?@Mercylicious, why the long absence from SMN. |
manie: FBN is very good as per TB investment.FBN will accept as little as 100k. |
Just got an alert from FBN for the interest paid on my TB. The TB issued to me paid an upfront interest of 10.45%, the TB will be due on 9th January 2014. May God spare our lives . |
lancee: GTB .. called account officer to ask him whats goin on , he said I should be give them time , it would be done todayFBN is very good as per TB investment. How much will you need to buy TB at GTB? |
lancee: Yeah , I called him as well yesterday , told me likely it went thru , but my account yet to be debitedWho is your banker, my account was debited last week Friday for my bid. |
omogidi234: Oga, I was in University of Ilorin those days when the branch ASUU was hot ( 97, 99 and 2000). The 'no work no pay' rule was first tested in Unilorin. Ask any one who was in Unilorin between 97- 2007, after close to ten years, the lecturer won their case in the Supreme Court. The funniest thing was that the least paid earned about N20m or so, depending on your HATISS. Even those who died during the struggle, their families received their pay. My point exactly is that after suspending their salary for years and some had gone to private universities, the court still ruled that they should earn salary till the date of the judgment or so.The management of UNILORIN did not seek legal advice before sacking the UNILORIN 49, similar case happened with Bernard Longe a former CEO of FBN. I guess he was paid close to 1 billion as lost income. The lecturers should be given an opportunity to defend their actions, invited to panel etc. They can now sack them for refusal to appear at the panel, which can be referred to as insubordination. Nothing stops an employer from sacking, dismissing, retrenching or retiring his employee, but they need to follow the legal procedure. No work, no pay is not illegal. workers can be sacked for dereliction of duties. insubordination etc. |
ajeyomi ademola: The ASUU-FGN matter is a clear conflictual matter. Are you sure? |
ajeyomi ademola: The ASUU-FGN matter is a clear conflictual matter.I don't think so. |
The management and administration of University education needs to be decentralised. A lecturer in Lagos does not have to earn the same salary with a lecturer in Maiduguri, but their costs of living and expenses in both cities are not the same. People may criticise me for this, but this is the economic reality. |
Time to partner with investors in the educational sector and most especially in University education. Anybody who invest in this sector will smile to the bank on a regular basis in the next 10 years. I see a gradual end of public universities in the next 20 years. I guess proprietors and investors in private universities are indirectly using the lecturers in public universities to kill the system. |
These are excerpts of the agreement between ASUU and federal government for a better understanding of the impasse. Establishment of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Re-Negotiation Committee On Thursday, 14th December, 2006, the then Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Obiageli Ezekwesili, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), inaugurated the FGN/ASUU Re-negotiation Committee comprising the FGN Re-negotiation Team led by the then Pro-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Deacon Gamaliel O. THE RESOLUTIONS AND AGREEMENTS.. Salary Structure for Academic Staff in Nigerian Universities It was agreed that there shall be a separate Salary Structure for University Academic staff to be known as Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure II (CONUASS II), which is shown in Table 1. CONUASS II is made up of the following three components: (a) The Consolidated Salary Structure for Academic Staff (CONUASS) approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) effective 1st January 2007 (FGN Circular SWC/S/04/S.309/1, dated 18th January, 2007). (b) Consolidated Peculiar University Academic Allowances (CONPUAA), exclusively for university teaching staff and derived from allowances not adequately reflected or not consolidated in CONUASS. (c) Rent as approved by the FGN effective 1st January 2007 (FGN Circular SWC/S/04/S.309/1, dated 18th January, 2007). Earned Academic Allowances It was agreed that entitled academic staff shall be paid the following earned allowances at the rates indicated for undertaking the listed assignments. Postgraduate Supervision Allowance (i) Lecturer I N15,000 per student, per annum (ii) Senior Lecturer N20,000 per student, per annum (iii) Reader & Professor N25,000 per student, per annum This allowance shall be paid to the entitled academic staff for a maximum of 5 students per annum. b. Teaching Practice/Industrial Supervision/Field Trip Allowances (i) Assistant Lecturer – Lecturer I N60,000 per annum (ii) Senior Lecturer N80,000 per annum (iii) Reader & Professor N100,000 per annum Where the work involves travelling out of town, the usual mileage and night allowances shall be paid in line with the existing Government regulations. Also, where a staff is involved in more than one of the above activities in a given year, he or she shallbe remunerated separately for each activity. c. Honoraria for External/Internal Examiner (Postgraduate Thesis) External (i) Master’s degree N80,000 per thesis (ii) Doctorate degree N105,000 per thesis Internal (i) Master’s degree N45,000 per thesis (ii) Doctorate degree N65,000 per thesis COTD
I think post graduate students pay for their masters and doctorate programmes, the allowance for supervising post graduate students ought to be billed in the school fees, this should not be the headache of the FG but the respective Universities. |
