Delegates for Saturday’s presidential convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt have complained about hunger occasioned by inability of the convention’s welfare committee failed to distribute snacks and water across the delegates. The delegates who expressed anger over the manner they are being treated despite their early arrival at Adokiye Amiesiekema stadium, noted that even bottled water brought did not go around and the security arrangement in the stadium did not oes not allow for easy movement. ADVERTISEMENT The convention has been delayed as leaders of the party and aspirants are said to be holding a crucial meeting to iron out some conflicting issues before the convention. Some delegates in Cross River, Delta, Ebony and Edo states, told Daily Trust that they are bitter because welfare committee would have been very active to prevent anybody from collapsing because of starvation. The Federal Government has disbursed N210 million to 10, 490 poorest and most vulnerable persons in Kaduna State under its Conditional Cash Transfer Programme. Alhaji Mahmoud Zailani, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Rural and Community Development made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday. Zailani explained that the beneficiaries from nine local government areas of the state received N5,000 monthly in February, March, April and May. He listed the local government areas to include Ikara, Kubau, Lere, Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, Kauru and Sanga. According to him, the Kaduna State Cash Transfer Unit in the ministry started the payment of N5,000 cash to the beneficiaries in February. The National Executive Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissociated itself from the the governorship primary election conducted in Kano on Monday. Shehu Yusuf Kura, the Special Adviser Media to National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), made the remark in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday. ADVERTISEMENT According to Kura, the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is not aware of the election as it has issued a statement postponing the governorship primary election in Kano, Imo and Lagos states. “The National Executive Council of the Party was not aware that the Kwankwaso group was conducting the election in Kano because of the earlier statement issued postponing the election in the three states mentioned. ADVERTISEMENT “I even spoke with our National Chairman, Secretary and other executive members of the council and they confirmed to me that they were not aware of the election,”he said. He said the National Headquarters of the party would not accept or consider the result of the governorship primary election held in Kano on Monday as it was illegally conducted. Kura said the party would announce a new date for the conduct of its governorship primary election in the three states. NAN reports that the State chapter of the PDP had on Tuesday rejected the governorship primary election conducted on Monday night at the Lugard Avenue, personal residence of Kwankwaso in Kano. They even conducted a senatorial bye election where Dancing Senator Ademola Adeleke of PDP won. They conducted bye-election in Oyo State as well, PDP won. Sixteen persons bearing membership cards of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been arrested by the Police in Osun on Thursday. Customised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) tags were found in their possession, as well as face caps and jackets bearing the inscription: ‘INEC Osun 2018 Election Observer’. The group, whom the Police said it caught during its "stop-and-search duty", was accused of using the customised materials to gain “easy access to restricted areas meant for personnel with due accreditation”. A statement by SP Folasade Odoro, Police Public Relations Officer, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, read: “The Nigeria Police Force in its continued efforts to discharging its responsibilities of ensuring the peaceful conclusion of Osun 2018 Gubernatorial Election, that was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in which Thursday 27th September, 2018 was fixed for the re-run in the Seven (7) Polling units. “Police team on stop-and-search duties at Orolu, intercepted vehicles with sixteen persons on board in possession of customised INEC tags, face cap and jackets with the inscription of ‘INEC Osun 2018 Election Observer’ and PDP membership cards, The suspects are using the items to have easy access to restricted areas meant for personnel with due accreditation. “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to debunk report that some accredited INEC observers were arrested or denied access to polling units.
