One afternoon in the late 1990s, Pat Isaac climbed to the roof top of a water tank on the premises of the defunct Nigerian Airways to check the tanks. As a staff of the department in charge of water supply, the check was a routine activity, he told PREMIUM TIMES. But that afternoon, what was a routine check took a tragic turn and he missed his steps. Within seconds, he narrated, he came down crashing from the edge of the iron bars above which the tank was placed. He lost consciousness, with his face damaged and head turned backwards. “That was the last thing I could remember,” he said, slowly, his head bent sideways. “I spent many, many months at the hospital and people felt I may not survive it. But I thank God I survived. It was an Indian doctor that treated me.” Few years after the incident, Mr Isaac said, he retired from the services of the Nigerian Airways. But for more than a decade after his retirement, until the first week of October, the old retiree said he lamented and waited in vain without receiving his entitlement from an organisation he served diligently. “It was harrowing,” he said of the experience. “We waited for many, many years. We were abandoned by the government. Many of our people have died; many have become weak and incapacitated. It is really sad we were treated that way. We thank God this government remembers us now.” Mr Isaac’s situation is not an isolated case; it is one of many sad tales retirees of the defunct Nigerian Airways told PREMIUM TIMES on Monday. The retirees, who all filed out for verification ahead of payment of their outstanding entitlement, said they had lived through pains over the years as the government neglected them. Alimi Kuye, a retiree, told PREMIUM TIMES he personally knew of about five of his colleagues who died due to their inability to pay for medical treatment in the periods they received no benefit from the government. “Many people have died, as you can clearly see from what people are saying,” he said. “Many died from avoidable ailments; many have become paralysed because they couldn’t afford hospital bills and money for drugs. It is sad.” Another retiree, who identified himself simply as Adigun, spoke of the government’s neglect of retirees in harsh words, lambasting past governments for their ‘nonchalant attitude’ to the plight of poor pensioners. He also commended the Nigerian government for addressing their plight. “Our past leaders failed us. They abandoned us when we are helpless and have no strength again to work. It is sad. We thank the Buhari government for coming to our rescue.” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/291976-how-obasanjo-jonathan-left-us-to-suffer-ex-nigerian-airways-workers.html Lalasticlala oam4j mynd44 |

Suddenly, brother hates brother. Friend no longer sees eye to eye with childhood friend. Vitriol flows from all directions. All because of politics. All because of the different alphabets our wannabe leaders have combined to fashion out their brand. At the last count, there were 91 such combinations with Accord (A) being the first and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) being the last in alphabetical order. You don’t need to search far on social media to see how politics has divided us. The Big Two – All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) account for most of the scalps so far harvested in this festival of bile. Supporters of the incumbent president brand themselves Buharists while those loyal to the PDP candidate describe themselves as being Atikulated. There is no dull moment when the unstoppable force of Buharists collides with the immovable Atikulated object. Again, let’s analyse empirical political reality from the subjective prisms of our friends, Chyke and Hadu. CHYKE: I have never been more convinced about an issue in my life. Atiku will defeat Buhari in a landslide. He will split the votes in the North, clear the Middle Belt, win the Southeast and South-South and have a good showing in the Southwest. HADU: Your analysis is laughable. Maybe your view has been dollarised as happened during the PDP convention when delegates were purchased like grocery. CHYKE: We are at the same stage we were four years ago when APC took advantage of PDP’s loss of popularity. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Jonathan was a better president than Buhari and Atiku will be an even better president than both. HADU: Haha, that is not what your record says. Under PDP, the central bank was an extension of the party’s purse; ministers became dollar billionaires; judges routinely took bribes to deliver custom-made judgements; overinflated contracts were never executed; the foreign reserve was mercilessly looted; everything PDP touched turned to dust. CHYKE: But we have apologised to Nigerians. The nation will witness a rebirth with our rebranded PDP. HADU: You don’t know the meaning of that word. You destroy the biggest black nation on earth in 16 years of kleptocracy and you think a simple apology is all it takes to return to power? CHYKE: Why not? The same corruption is going on now, only that the actors are different. In any case, now that most Nigerians want restructuring, Buhari is finished. Everyone knows that he wants the decadent system preserved because it serves his purpose. He will be disgraced in the entire south. HADU: How simplistic! What are your calculations? CHYKE: According to INEC records, the Southeast has 7,028,560 registered voters; I expect 60% turnout, which is 4,217,136. Atiku will clear 80% of the votes, that’s 3,373,709. The Southwest has 14,298,356 registered voters. If 60% show up, that’s 8,579,014. Atiku will score 45%, which is 3,860,556. The South-south has 8,937,057 registered voters. If 65% of them vote, that’s 5,809,087. Atiku will score 60%, that’s 3,485,452. There are 7,675,369 registered voters in the North Central out of which I expect about 65% (4,988,990) to vote. Atiku will score 55% which is 2,743,944. The Northeast has 10,038,119 registered voters but because of security challenges, only 50% will vote; that’s 5,019,060. It is Atiku’s home region and he will score 60% which is 3,011,436. The Northwest has 18,900,543 registered voters. If 65% turn out, that would be 12,285,353 voters. Atiku will score 38% which is 4,668,434. Now, total all those figures and you will see that a man who scores 21,143,532 is the next president. HADU: All your calculations are childishly flawed. Look at the South-south. Have you forgotten that Akpabio has tilted the scales in Akwa Ibom State? Then, is Edo not an APC state? Also, you don’t know that two of the three senators representing Rivers State are in APC? Then, your analysis of the Southeast is simplistic. You can’t take the Southwest from Buhari, no matter how much you try to sow bad blood between him and Bola Tinubu. Yorubas are wiser than you are willing to admit. And in the North, Atiku will be smashed roundly. In the Northwest, for example, the number of registered voters in Jigawa is 1,852,698; Kano 5,135,415; Katsina 2,931,668; Kaduna 3,565,762; Kebbi 1,603,468; Sokoto 2,065,508; and Zamfara 1,746,024. Buhari will clear more than 70% of the votes there and in Atiku’s Northeast. Mark my words. Yes, North Central may be shared but Buhari will add new votes from South-South and Southeast. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buharist-or-atikulated.html? Mynd44 lalasticlala oam4j |

Flood has taken over parts of Otuoke Community, hometown of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Otuoke is located in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa and one of the communities mostly affected by flood disasters. Some residents of the community now use canoes to assess their homes following the overflow of River Orashi-Taylor and Epie creeks, situated in Rivers and Bayelsa States, respectively. NAN recalls that the flood affected the house of Jonathan in 2012. One of the residents affected by the flood, Mr Solomon Oru, called on the Federal Government and National Emergency Management Agency to come to their aid, as most of them now access their homes through canoes. He said most of their properties have been damaged by the flood. Oru also told NAN that the flood has dispatched reptiles around the communities, threatening lives. Another resident, Mr Emmanuel Peter, said they can’t leave their homes, because thiefs are looting their properties. He also called for the intervention of the state government and security agencies to support and protection.https://leadership.ng/2018/10/21/flood-sacks-otuoke-ex-president-jonathans-hometown-in-bayelsa/?fbclid=IwAR1iwDHTWLXO06_CoDUwny1wrmakwp9ZpXfVTTlIxSQXPaqvKuhw_prwYLI |

Let them defect to any party that they wish, we all knew d quality of any single person that contest for office in 2019, only buhari has our vote, but d remained Apc members are optional to be voted by people like me. |
Following the disaffection expressed by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who lost out in the just concluded primaries, the party hierarchy may have begun behind-the-scene manoeuvres to stop more party chieftains from quitting the party. This is just at the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Comrade Shehu Sani, yesterday resigned his membership from the ruling APC following the submission of the name of his opponent, Uba Sani, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the APC senatorial candidate in the 2019 polls. The APC, it was learnt, decided on the reconciliatory moves to forestall any more defection plans by its stalwarts, LEADERSHIP Sunday has learnt. The recent primaries held by the party in different states and zones had thrown up several contentious issues with party faithful threatening to dump the party and join forces with the opposition ahead of the 2019. LEADERSHIP Sunday recalls that the APC had after the primaries inaugurated its national Appeal Committee headed by former governor of Edo State, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor. According to a source who was privy to the decisions reached by the Appeal Committee which submitted its report to the National Working Committee (NWC) penultimate Monday, a lot of the party men who lost out in either the gubernatorial, senatorial or House of Representatives primary elections in their states were already poised to ensure that they take their own pound of the flesh on the party as they felt betrayed the process. For instance, the decision of the party to drop Senator Shehu Sani despite the appeal panel’s verdict upholding the choice of his candidacy for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, the candidacy of Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law of the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, against the alleged winner, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and the case in Zamafara had all left a bitter taste in the mouths of party stalwarts.https://leadership.ng/2018/10/21/apc-moves-to-stop-further-defections/ Lalasticlala oam4j mynd44 |
